As Kotaku, Joystiq and others are pointing out, we’ve released a minor firmware update (version 1.92) for the PS3. This update focuses on some PS3 compatibility and playability issues for select titles. A search site for looking up compatible titles is also in the works, as soon as it’s live, I’ll publish a link to it here.

I updated and I didn’t experience any problems, but I think these small updates that don’t really add anything important for the huge majority of people should be avoided, because it’s a pain to download the update (it’s so slow and big, the features added on this one are not worth 120MB) and it’s also a pain to do the update (I have a huge fear of a blackout happening at the exact time of the update). Save those little features and release them when there’s also something important!

Lair is an awesome innovative game, sure some thigns could have been better i guess, but still its a very good game to enjoy
btw the Sixaxis works perfectly, its tough at the begininng but after 15-20 mins it became easy to handle

Ok ok guys cut Loucifer some slack. He went too far with the backward compatibility thing but he’s not that wrong. There’s no doubt the PS3’s the best console. But Sony promised a lot and so far under-delivered. Did they warn us that it would take 6 years for us to get what we were told? No. If they did, many of us would have saved $600 and bought the complete product at a much lower price. Some demands will never be met, we all know that. But so far, the PS3 has not met the expectations, even if it blows everything else out of the water.

Yes, Sony has promised alot. However, NOWHERE DID THEY STATE THAT EVERYTHING THEY PROMISED WAS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST YEAR.
All I know is, in 4 years, I will still be playing my great PS3 that keeps getting better year after year instead of going out and buying Microsoft’s next console because they didn’t have the capability of making a console that lasts more than 5 years.

When they were showing it off at E305 and 06 they didn’t warn that it wouldn’t have them either. Would you follow that same logic if there was zero game during the first year? I don’t think so. Hell, even the games that were promised at lauch weren’t there so what are you defending?
As I said before, I know the PS3, like it is, is the best. Otherwise I wouldn’t have bought it and I would certainly not be “whining” here. I now I had a lot of bang for my bucks. But it’s not what I paid for yet. If you are 100% satisfied with the console like it is, you are either rich or uninformed. I’m neither of these two.
In-game XMB and custom music is already in developer’s SDK it just takes up too much RAM at this point in time. It will be used if Sony can get it to be more efficient.
No good games are coming from SCEA except Ratchet and the treasure hunt from Insomniac this year. I heard Heavenly Sword is 6 hrs longs. Come on, 6hrs. That is like a rental. Sony time for you to step up. I have paid my $600-$700 on a game system and Microsoft kicking our butts. Whats there to compete with Halo 3 NOTHING. I thought Lair and Heavenly Sword would do justice but they are all weak. I guess we SonyFans have to wait until next year for Metal Gear which might not be an exclusive :[

There’s still Uncharted. But I don’t think it’ll go higher than 8. To compete Halo 3, it might not be from SCEA but there are UTIII and Haze.

I’m getting the 8002aa08 error and being logged out when trying to use CHat with a friend with a Jabra Headset, I’m using the Eyetoy.
Sometimes my friends aren’t in the friends list, logging out, and back in and switching users and back does not resolve the issue.
Can I please request lossless ATRAC for storing music from CD’s please.
I would also like surround sound in MP4 so the movie clips and game clips we download (whilst waiting for Demo’s and games to be launched) are played back with surround sound!
Can I also request mapping keyboard keys and mouse buttons to controller functions, at least in XMB and the browser, if not across all games.
Can you please allow the XMB icon colours to be chosen, similar to the set of colours available for the smiley face user icon, and make a template available that shows where the icons and panels will show so we can design decent wallpaper.

I updated the system during this afternoon, and I cannot believe I cannot access my browser (only needed when someone uses my PC), PSN Store or Account Management. Still can play games online though. Both of my brothers’ account works fine.
Please, please fix the problem immediately without having to restore the entire system, Sony… I do not want to lose my NFS-Carbon saved file there, exchange system for a few days, or recreate my account…ya…
I remember coming on here a couple months ago and everybody was so happy and optimistic! Ha! Ha! Now most of everyone on here (including me) sound like a bunch of retired a**holes that have been working in coal mines their whole life!!! It’s actually pretty damn funny! I like Lair. The controls are easy after the 5 min training or if you have played any PSN Sixaxis games. The story is great. Worth every dollar.
@Andrewbond Halo is hype and that’s it. The only reason that is sells like it dose is because it was the only good Xbox launch title 1 out of the 5. Halo 2 was the same thing and Halo 3 will be more of the same crap. The beta looked like the 2nd game.
Also just because Heavenly Sword is 6-8 hours dose not make it less of a great game.
And yes Unreal Tournament III will own Halo and Gears of War. So will COD 4, MGS4 and Killzone 2. After this year the 360 won’t be able to compete.
I think it’s ok to show Sony some tough love, but we shouldn’t fall into mindless bashing.

I haven’t been on here in a while. I’ve been playing my new PS3. As I’ve posted here before, I bought the 80gb from Sonystyle. I have enjoyed it so far and hope some more games will be out before I finish RFOM and Motorstorm. I would probably be a little ill had I spent $600 on the PS3. With a blu-ray and the games coming out, the $450 price point seemed reasonable for the 80gb package.
I have been called a troll on the Sony forum for my constructive criticism of the console. I tend to believe the PS3 will be a thriving console in a year. Unlike you, I’m an ultra conservative. I don’t think either of the major parties can govern though. I guess I’m not the blame America, blame Sony, blame anyone but myself for making a bad purchasing decision before seeing the benefits for myself type of guy.
If the PS3 doesn’t work out for me, I might sell it. There will be too many sunny days ahead for me to bother these people with my troubles. For the rainy days that God blesses us with, because of the beauty of freedom and Capitalism, there’ll be a good game to play on something.:)

360 is such a horrible system so you and yet they pump out titles all of which 1080p not 720p and pumpin the games out and not even using Bluray discs…and not even HD DVD either…and better yet..not even HDMI and the graphics still look better then any game i purchased to date up to and including Lair which i already said had amazing visuals

If you spent those additional $200 for ht emagic of “teh CELL!” you are up for disappointment, at least for the next 6 years, as my man Kaz said. BUT, it doesn’t mean that the PS3 doesn’t have other tricks up its sleeves: UT3 might have more maps on it, PC mods, Sixaxis controls and mouse/keyboard support. Haze, so far is PS3 exclusive.

Yet we know where the 360 is going with the DVD9 medium. First the GTA guys complain about it. Second PGR4 gets gimped because of lack of space. Now UT3 might have more stuff on it in the PS3 version. So let’s see. The 360 has been there for 2 years and a half. That leaves it another 2 years and a half. After that we all know what’s coming: the next generation of Xbox. Or even better, they will just cut $50 out of it and put the HD DVD drive built-in and start requiring it to play certain games. I hope yours will survive all these months by the way…
Man I don’t care about no sixaxis. To be honest I prefer rumble. Sometime the sixaxis is anoying. The only game so far that is utilizing the sixaxis pretty well is Folklore.
How many games are coming out this month for PS3 that are good? 1 maybe? For a whole freaking month 1 game.

I know what you mean man. The PS3 is not what we all dreamt of. But it’s not that bad. The 360 history is similar, if not worse, for its first year. The games are coming. And the Sixaxis was just to show the originality compared to the 360.

Loucifer, I think we will all admit right now that the 360 is better, but the ps3’s future will be where it will shine. It’s early yet in this consoles life. 6 yrs., no it won’t take that long, give it about 6 months, than come back and talk to us. I also have a 60 and enjoy it very much, but early on in it’s release it wasn’t so great either.
1. When the machine is updated, the least they could do is update the BC site. It’s been stuck on 1.8 for how long?
Also, updating games, and bug fixing those already compatible, would also help. Oh, and test the things, before giving them a rating of 3
2. We need a ‘refund’ button or form submit button (for a refund), for when we get ripped by titles like Warhawk. Nice late statement from Sony, informing me of their DRM method of copy protection (rootkit, anyone?) AFTER I paid for it.
Those 2 things would be a nice addition.
Sure, I can’t wait to walk from ‘ok’ to ‘cancel’, but fix the basic fundamentals before building hype with The Sims: Sony

Would it be possible for us to get an update on the warhawk situation from you guys at Sony or from incognito themselves? I understand that problems are bound to occur when an online game first launches, but it’s been like this for about a week now. It’d be nice to know how close they are to fixing the problem, or any progress at all. I post this here, because I heard warhawk was one of the PS3 titles this firmware addressed.

We are all way off topic. So here goes. Lair is awesome. I just got done killing a Spider Wasp that battle alone was worth at least $30. I would tell more but everything right after that = spoilers.
I just updated to FW 1.92 and keep getting disconnected from the PSN.
When I try to sign in again I get a 8002AA08 error, the only way I found around this is to reset the PS3 and then I am able to sign in again.
BUT, if I get signed out for any reason and try to sign in again I get the 8002AA08 error!
I can surf the web and fold so I don’t think it’s a router problem.
Nice update Sony! Glad to see we’re making our way towards 2.0. We all know what that means when we hit 2.0 (or at least we’re hoping).
Would it be possible to let us know further in advance when the next update would be coming? You’ve done it with most of the past updates already. Or was 1.92 just not worth mentioning ahead of time?

I believe that Incognito hasn’t allowed anyone that was working on Warhawk to have vacation time for the past few months to get the game finished. Dylan has said that after the game had launched, a lot of people would be taking a vacation (and it can be well deserved.) Maybe it’s a ploy so that so many people won’t be ranked so much higher when I finally get Warhawk ;) Thanks, Dylan!
Hmm…wow, well, all I have to say is the PS3 could’ve had a better browser that doesn’t crap out considering the processor the PS3 has but I’m sure you have your reasons. AND PS3 needs to have Playstation Cards for USA!!! Why should we only be able to use credit cards in America Sony? Also, the Playstation Network is kinda…..well dry and needs more content…..tons more…..and of course I trust you’ll do this in the future. If anything I’m sure Homes’ll take care of the lack of online activity. As said earlier, knowing what we’re downloading ahead of time would be awesome. As for the others senselessly going on and on between the PS3 and it’s faulty competitor, the Xbox 360 started with almost nothing as well since I used to own one before I got tired of Saints Row and Spiderman 3 not loading and such and such(this list goes on). When Microsoft can get their crap together and ensure us that they won’t sell anymore defective systems so I wouldn’t have to take time outta my day to get a replacement…..THAT’s when I’ll consider another accursed 360(I traded mine in for a PS3 and I’m very happy). Back then the PS2 was the crap system and Xbox was the one that was good and working properly……uh….well except for the whole….burning…..down….your house….thing……..but anyway, the Xbox 360 is now that junk system until they fix it and I strongly believe that a PS3 is a good investment due to it’s technology and no one complaining about having to get another friggin PS3. Games out for the PS3 might not be all that great but alot of the early 360 games sucked anyway. Usually just lousy sports games(if you played one you played them all). Anyhow, enough of that; Lovin’ the little updates and anything you can input would be very well appreciated……assuming we know what they do lol. ^_^ Thank you!
