One Last Thing on E3 2007…

180 2

It’s really hard to believe it has been a month since E3. The team here at SCEA is pretty much fully recovered at this point and is shifting gears to Leipzig and the Tokyo Game Show. Before we leave E3 2007 in the dust, however, we thought we would share one last thing.

FLV PLAYER

By now, you all have probably caught some part of our press conference, but you may not be aware of all the work that went into it. You guys seemed to have enjoyed the time lapse video we put together following our Gamer’s Day in May — so here’s another one from our press conference and our adjacent post-show arcade area at E3. Hope you enjoy it. Oh, and if you’re wondering what the glowing balls of light are in the arcade area, think ping pong balls…3,000 ping pong balls.

  • Im in hopes of them coming in down the road with a calender to post dates of which like we can post birthdays and they can post game dates on there as well for all ps3 owners.. and so on and so forth that would be a wonderful tool to use :D

  • Well all these people complaining there ain’t no games i got 12 of them already and i have only beaten 70% of them Seriously grow up when u say the ps3 has no games Ur prob a poor NOOB cant afford it or a xbox fan just crying stop ur whining let them do there JOB.. Because Sony knows how to play these cards

  • I’ve actually seen this alot. At the Los Angeles Convention Center…where you guys SHOULD go back too….there’s been shows that have set up stuff like this and I must say.. its impressive how in 3 days all this will go up..and in just ONE day, it will ALL come down. Were you guys using your own setup crew or those for THAT venue?

  • What has happened to the PS Store, where the heck is all the content. BioShock demo on live, thank god

  • I appreciate the community feedback and the games issue is not a concern for me because there are games, although those that third parties have done, don’t do the PS3 justice period.

I am just trying to post questions that I’ve put on this blog since it started and see if we can get some answers!

The only we’ve gotten so far is

“We know you want demos, consider that box checked”

If it’s checked why was last Thursday such a dissappointment?

Oh and I misstyped on the number of months I meant to put 8.

More than likely the posts I’ve put here will be considered off topic and might get removed or reported or something so they don’t have to respond. I think that’s a real issue, instead the questions I’m asking should be what the blog topics are.

Blog Topic Ideas that we want to see:

    – Firmware update 2.00 Features and release Date information.
    – Playstation one games why SCEA isn’t releasing them as fast at SCEJ?
    – Why demos are currently being held back from the PSN?
    – SCEA refuses to follow SCEE and SCEJ and release all the same colors for the PSP Slim at launch?
    – Why third party PS3 games being held back from release compared to the other consoles? (hopefully they won’t respond with, I can’t see why they can’t do it, because we have!) If you don’t know what issues their having then your third party support has to be lacking right?
    – Why does it take so long to update playstation.com about the firmware details?

As big of a Company as Sony is you would think the would be releasing PSN games faster than the Virtual Console and have Video and music content ready for the PS3/PSP before Live had video downloads.

I’m trying to post information without ranting but I’m sure the amount of information will only come off as a complaint. There is just so much adding up and we just can’t get an answer!

  • @154, Kenji

You pretty much summed up all my questions for the PS3/PSP….

  • @kenji

dude even if its a question…you’ll have sum jack@ss with his nose so far up Sony’s @ss to stop complaining or stop whining or blah blah blah…just ask your questions…OBVIOUSLY you have to ask a question a million times b4 you get an answer…LOL

oh yea and sum1 mentioned having 12 games and only beat 70%…LOL…THAT to me is a NOOB!!…sorry

  • Wow. It seems the world lacks patience nowadays.

    @kenji
You don’t like the way Sony is handling things? Sell your ps3 to someone. I’m sure plenty of people will be happy to take it off your hands.

  • Wow, that video was amazing. I really like the music you played with it also.

  • @ai11237

you totally missed the point of kenji’s post…hehehe

i think post 157 sums up this one LOL

  • @a11237

You should just stop interfering with someone’s questions. Kenji is a respected member of the PSU and a supporter of Sony, so why shouldn’t he be able to state his opinions and ask questions? How do you know Sony knows every single thing he asked and are working on it? Unless people tell Sony what they want, Sony won’t fix it. If you don’t like him asking questions, dont bother replying, because Im sure thousands of others, as well as myself, want answers to all of those questions, and unless Kenji and other keep asking, we won’t get them.

  • @111237

Do you really think the solution for Playstation owners who are not satisfied with Sony right now is to sell the console?

I don’t think that should be solution and if Sony took that stance I would sell it. The problem is that’s not what they are saying, they’re not saying anything at all!

I’m not going to go back and talk about what they showed and what they promised because that’s old news. What I really feel is an issue now is how slow they’re moving and how fast the others are!

The issues I’m bringing up are positives for the Playstation community/owners and for Sony, if they address them.

I have every system and I love my PS3 right now because I know what it can do, I love my PSP because of what it does now and what it could do.

There is no reason that Sony should be avoiding our questions or concerns and there is no reason you should feel it’s ok for them to do so.

  • @kenji

I apologize for misunderstanding your message. I believe that Sony is doing a decent job.

What I am trying to say though is a lot of people are thinking they can post a new feature(including demos) and expect it to be available the next day. Obviously, it doesnt work that way.

  • @Dave Karraker — You guys should consider picking up this game. The team behind it is really good and it sounds like a good 5.99-10 dollar game.

  • I understand your point, it’s just that nothing is matching up.

    – Japan has over 30 PS1 games available.
    – The VC has 3 retro games released a week
    – The other console has a demo almost every other day including ones that were marked as ready for PS3/360 a while ago, but only released on the 360.

    – Also we have demos of other games that are being playable at multiple events but not avaialable on the PSN.

    – The UK and Japan have more PSP colors available on the current PSP and will have more on the new PSP.

Think about the blog post that said we’ll be getting some good stuff during E3 and we got videos!!!!!

So this is where most of the lack of communication is, they don’t know what we consider “Good Stuff”.

Also in this day and age, with the internet getting videos is the last thing we need, especially movie trailers of all things.

I mean can you honestly say you look forward to Thursdays or even going to the Playstation Store at all based on past experience?

  • I agree with Kenji.

Although I am very happy with my PS3 and PSP, I am extremely disappointed in what I am able to do online. Almost all of the posts from developers, executives and marketing reps have all posted positive things about how much and how well things are going.

I’d like to see a post from someone “up top” that says they’re trying their best and to just stick with them. I’d rather read that then watch a time laps video of lighting fixtures being constructed or pictures of the Warhawk servers.

  • Exactly. Even coming to the Playstation Blog, what does someone putting up rafters have to do with the questions we really want answered?

I mean didn’t all the consoles do this, and don’t companies do this for events all the time?

There should be a video showing the 2.00 firware running on a PS3 and the cool features that it has, and then at the end of the video, they should say it’ll be live this Thursday!

They should show the PSP store running on a new Slim PSP.

They should show a list of PS1 games coming SOON to the Playstation Store.

They should have a conversation with an EA and Ubisoft dev on why they are having issues developing for the PS3 or why they are creating crappy ports on the PSP.

I’m afraid that when they release Home, it’ll be the same thing all over again. I think it’ll come out without a lot of the functions but not all the functions they showed, and then we’ll get the line ,”It’s coming soon, be patient”

  • @awheaten

I know on paper what the common average person sees… $279 vs $499. But that has to stand for now. The common person does not know the whole picture. I’m not exactly sure, but it costs Sony about $900 to make the PS3 (@Dave not sure if you can confirm this, but its quite close yes?). So the $100 price drop to $499 definitely increased Sony’s gaming div losses, but Sony was willing to take that gamble. So yes, they understood that taking that loss would lead to more console and game sales, but any more of a price drop is losing way too much. There has to be a balance. Making the PS3 won’t cost as much to make in the future and that $499 will eventually lower. That’s what happened with the PS1 & PS2 if you remember. Okay sorry for going off the subject too much…Just a big Sony fan *zipping mouth*

  • @kenji

isnt it a smack in the face too that the japanese store gets updated like 2-3 a week…its like Japan says “oh we have this and that…lets just put it out”

none of this once a week with a few trailers nonsense!!!

did you DL Bladestorm demo???…its pretty tight…too bad i dont understand japanese

  • @naughtyco

    LOL

  • @Loucifer

    Sorry for the double post.

Yeah I know exactly how you feel. I think I’m a little heated to see how MS and Spike TV did what I think Sony should be doing. Showing some gameplay footage of a game not on the PSN or available for release and then at the end saying it’s now available for download on the PSN!

Now I see we have a new blog post and it’s the score from Lair! Where is that demo that was supposed to be out before the game was released?

  • Potential Customer

    @ cornfused

The bigger problem for Sony is that the common average person sees better ports on the $279 machine than are on the $499 machine and soon to include one of the most popular games franchises in America. All the Madden tourneys on college campuses and other venues across the country will be played on 360. That “little problem” and the Halo 3 launch could prove to be too much to overcome for Sony in this generation; I hope I’m wrong.

I completely understand every advantage the PS3 has over the competitor. That’s why I’m still leaning toward Sony. I’m an older gamer with much less time on my hands. I could purchase both systems but hardly have time for one, so I don’t want to make a mistake when it’s time for me to purchase a system.

  • Couldn’t agree with you more. Both Kenji and Pot. Customer have articulated well my feelings about the the current Sony business model: smoke and mirrors.
Where’s the proof? Can anyone explain why we don’t see “The future of gaming”?

  • @spanky

I’ve been saying “smoke and mirrors” for months…but im just the new yawka with a bad attitude

“the future of gaming”…coming in the future…not now!

  • And yet no response.

  • dont expect one either…when you expect things is when you get disappointed…so expect NOTHING!!

  • Off topic.

You guys and gals at Sony should buy the rights to M.U.G.E.N.

If you don’t know what that is, it’s a 2D fighting game engine in which people get to create their own fighters, and download sprites of characters from other games like Dragon Ball Z, Street Figther, ad infinitum. There are no limits to the amounts of characters you can have, and it’s a global phenomenon.

Its perfect for the PS3 because characters can be saved on the HDD and you can make a mint off of downloads.

You should REALLY consider it. I know tons of people who LOVE the game, and it would bring a lot of sales to the PS3. Even if you just put the Engine itself on the PSN for download, you can still make a lot of money because it would be great using a console controller and possibly other features that you can’t get on a PC in that game.

    Think about it.

It’s perfect for your user centric business model.

  • Sony, what the heck! Why won’t you release these demos! First Lair, now Ratchet! Why wait?! And what’s with not giving us 3rd party game demos, Xbox Live get’s them! I thought you were listening!!!!

  • they really need to get the demos in the hands of the players! this will keep us in the loop and…spark a lil interest in the platform’s new releases!

maybe, they really need to redesign the PS Store as well?

  • Nice video. Me loves the music!
