Lair Update

491 0

Wow, even I didn’t see this one coming! Due to an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game, the release of LAIR, originally set for August 14th, has changed to September 4, 2007. Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features – such as leaderboards and medal systems – have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date. We appreciate everyone’s excitement and patience for the game and look forward to its release on September 4.

  • Half_life, EB games says HS ships on the 12th. I asked and it isn’t a same day ship so we will get it on the 13th. Now retailers are often wrong but Eurogamer is reporting that Sony is ‘quietly’ backing away from the 14th as a date. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the title slip.

    Stranglehold delayed, Lair, what’s next?

I reiterate, the worst part is the same as the PS3 debacle. KKEPING MUM AND NOT INTERACTING AND COMMUNICATING WITH FANS = BAD DECISION. THAT IS WHAT A BLOG IS FOR AFTER ALL.

On a related note, I am unsure who Larry Hryb’s counterpart is at PSN but he or she needs to be given their walking papers.

  • Blah….. these delays with hopes suck!

  • @Hal_life000111

Yea, in a way. Unfortunately, one of them had to be pushed back. If not, both would release on same day, and that wouldn’t be such a good idea. At least for me, I mention once again, when Lair comes out, I’ll enjoy it first day, in the meanwhile, I’ll also be playing the Heavenly Sword demo. No biggy for me. :-)

  • lol, funny… you know it’s just you know as well as I that we need a brand new AAA title ASAP.

  • Once again they could have released the game on Aug. 14 and patched the game via PSN.

  • I’m glad you have been honest with us Ryan. Thanks for telling us before the date actually was passed. I’m sure that many PS3 users like myself appreciate when the fokes from dev teams and Sony alike, come out and give us the bad news along with the good news. Honesty buys you customers, lies turn them away.

  • Instead of delaying the game, why didn’t they release the game on time and then make a free add-on in the Playstation Store that people could download to fix the problem? Delaying the game seems like a really bad marketing mistake for you guys. Now people will have to choose between Lair, Heavenly Sword, and Warhawk since they’re all released around the same time.

  • I would rather have a 3 week delay, and a better game.

    Go for it.

  • Lair officaly delayed « JoeGamer’s Blog

    […] Link […]

  • I’ve been anticipating Lair for months, and the delay really doesn’t help at all. August 14th seemed so close, yet somewhat far away, but September just slaps me in the face. At least I have Warhawk for online play, but Lair was going to be my main opportunity for a great campaign.

  • i cant wait, but i will because you said.

  • I thought…….it was done….this is even better release date though, IMO. We will have in game XMB, so we can listen to to DRAGONFORCE while playing……..thanks again guys, you know what’s best for us, so I’m trusting you on this,

    gran_champ

  • well I loved the star wars rouge squadren series, so I have faith in the fine folks over at factor 5 will take full advantage of there extra time. Take all the time you need to make this game great but not like a year

  • @Kedaro

dude…i could care less whether you like me or not…ive said this once and i’ll say it again…everyone is entitled to their own opinion…including you and myself

I specifically said first off as well not to give me lip for stating my opinion cuz i dont care…and i meant it…

    with that said…

    @Hatchetforce

couldnt have said it better myself…kudos!

Im also going to say this now…I may have too much faith or love for Sony but whatever it is….I EXPECT SO MUCH MORE FROM SONY!!!!

and i’ve been WAY MORE THEN PATIENT since November 2006 when i first bought my PS3…

SO MY LAST STATEMENT ON THIS TOPIC IS!!!

    PUT UP…OR SHUT UP!!!

  • Pleeeease Mr. E!!! Put in the option to control the game without the motion sensing feature. Don’t let your amazing creation to be considered mediocre, due to a forced control scheme that many people would prefer not to use.

  • Nice demos today Sony but release Final Fantasy 7 and the Ratchet and Clank demo next week. That would quiet some of the complaints about no content.

  • What FInal Fantasy 7, there is not Final Fantasy 7!

  • They should release the game on Aug. 14 and update the game with a add on on Sept 4 or whenever after we get the game.

  • We have PSN, take advantage of this!

  • THE RELEASE SHOULD BE ON AGUST 14 BUT IF THE GAME UPDATE IS GOING TO BE COOL IS BETTER TO WAIT UNTIL SEPT 4 WHENEVER THAT GAME IS GOING TO BE VERYYYYY COOLLLL !!!!

  • hmm…. they said that they making changes in online capability of lair. How about multiplayer? sounds great huh… fighting against who have the best dragon. hehehe

  • i hear warhawk got delayed too. if true F U sony. im done wit the delaystation 3. looks like ill be jumping in

  • Warhawk better not be delayed too sony!
Do you hear that?!Im gonna be so pissed!
Man i should have waited to buy it.

  • I wish it wasn’t so, but if it’s for the better of the game, go for it!

  • sigh, i was really looking forward to this but i guess we all have to wait……… i hope they delayed it for a good reason

  • u no this really grinds my gears

  • @TristanMike

I’m not entirely sure I understand, or agree with your logic. By all industry standard a delay means one of two things, and considering Lair isn’t being cancelled it can only mean they’re improving things, minor or otherwise.

I suppose my main beef is that most delays are often numerous months, and here we’re waiting a mere month for a game we’ve wanted for the last year…seems a fair trade for me if the game is going to benefit from it in the long run.

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Y!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought this summer wouldnt be a shut out. I guess it is a shutout. Once again, a slow summer for gamers, well, at least for me. This sux but I will be buying it the day its finally released. I look forward to dragon flying!

  • same here

  • Lame… If it came down to “community features” it should have been a downloadable upgrade… Not holding the game back again… August was the PS3’s salvation, and now you’re making the drought even worse…

    Seriously, this is getting annoying…

  • I didn’t read thru the other 450 so comments cuz im new but it was shocking news that a lot of games recently have been getting pushed back. GTA,Stranglehold, Blacksite, Lair, among others. I am very dissapointed to a certain extent. I hope the few rumors i heard about Warhawk possibly being pushed were false. My question is, are the achievements related to HOME im assuming they are and if so is it so complicated a process it couldnt have been done with an online update of some sort like built into firmware. Thanks and I hope that early review from EGM doesnt discourage anyone from buyin this almost sure to be great game.

  • I just have one question. ok… If it is a simple QA prob with leaderboards and medals, why can it not be fixed by a simple update via download. Just curious… kinda makes it seem if it’s a problem like that it should be no problem to fix and not a 3 week push back.. very upsetting for a lot of people i know for it to be pushed back. Especially since Heavenly Sword is out soon after. It will definately screw up sales if people didn’t aready have preordered lair.

  • Sony, Sony, Sony. At first I was mad about this, but now I have come back down to Earth and I reconngnize the fact that it will be for the better. But the fact of the matter is is that Lair, Warhawk, and HS are way to close together. But you can’t delay them again or you will alienate your fanbase. Pull forward the release dates slightly to give your fans good news and to keep them happy, or at the very least keep them on track. Give us good content on the Network until these games can get released.

  • Wow whats up with the delays? Blacksite and GTA have also been delayed.

  • Release dates should be taken with a pinch of salt. |The trick is not to arrange your life around a release date! =) Games that release bang on the date are usually rubbish games i.e Movie cash-ins. Games are always being pushed back, its nothing new.

  • When are we gonna see a Lair Demo on PSN?

  • awheathen

    “@DaChinPin

Personally I don’t understand when you guy say Sony lied. When did Sony lie? When it can close for Lair to come out the game wasn’t read. If the game wasn’t ready, the game was ready. PERIOD”

If you think Sony doesn’t lie you’re dumb. First the PS3 ‘price drop’ was a bait and switch. Now the Lair game ‘goes into manufacturing’ just to be cancelled and delayed again. Now tell me if that’s not lieng to every fans’ face?

  • @ sarshelYam

I don’t know which logic you’re having trouble with, I wish you had of elaborated. But if I may, I think you are speculating….or assuming about the cause of delay and giving them more credit than they deserve….we’ve been lied to before, and there’s a possibility we’re being lied to now. For all we know, they aren’t fixing anything, for all we know, last week was a lie just to “tide us over”….see what lies do to your fanbase ? they (the fanbase) start mistrusting you, it’s hard to believe someone when they are pathological liar.

And the point isn’t the amount of the delay, I couldn’t care less, but the fact that almost every thing Sony has “promised” us, has been delayed. Why bother with telling people a release date in the first place ? Why not just say, “We’re working on getting it out to you as quick as possible without sacrificing the quality of the game.” There, nice little truthful statement, it would tide me over.

Also, companies seem so definitive when they announce the date, like it IS set in stone, they even enforce it in interviews, but then they come around and say, “Nah, that wasn’t the REAL release date, here it is” and 7/10 times, that’s not the REAL release date either.

What the hell is the point of a “Release Date” in the first place then ? Developers and Publishers should keep their big mouths shut and let us speculate. They shouldn’t announce a release date, until the thing goes to press……wait……that doesn’t work ether, dang !

I see many peoples’ points, but I’ve worked in a few pressure industries, and delays, though they happen, are never good, and someone always pays more and usually the consumer pays less…but in this industry, it’s the opposite, the consumer pays more, and the industry sits back and laughs at the apathy of gamers.

Also, not to labor the point, but if it was simple leaderboards, etc. then, as it has been suggested many times, why couldn’t that have been patched ? I too am tired of my “Delay-Station 3”

Sony, I love you, and do try and stand behind you, but lately I don’t know…..give us back our faith.

  • Tristanmike

I’m behind you 100%. If Warhawk gets pushed back I’ll be buying a 360 to tide me over and give my PS3 to my little brother. I’m sick of delays and false promises. Sony was only being kept fans quiet because of the August-September line-up which supposedly caters to everyone, but now every one of those games are being pushed back. I hope Warhawk doesn’t get pushed back like Lair. If it does screw the delaystation 3. From now on I’ll do everything to keep my friends from doing the same mistake I did by buying this $660 heater. Next-generation you’ll lose billions more at launch because noone will want to be early adopters you dumbasses.

  • sony come on man i pre-order this a week ago and now it delayed. Sony, i been a sony fan since the first ps1 and you guy made the best game, by next year i will like to see those best games that been hiding for months in my Ps3 next year.
    Psfanboy forever!

  • I am so done with this game. Not only am I hearing about bad reviews but now the game is once again delayed. What was once my most anticipated title just lost itself a purchaser. I’ll buy Warhawk and Heavenly Sword instead.

  • Take your time.

This will make the game better, that’s all I care ’bout.

    Can’t wait.

  • @Scarecrow

That’s all you care about? You don’t even care that the only game that’s fun is RFOM? A console which has at best 3 games that are good….? I’m sorry but I’d be pissed if I wasted $660 at something which isn’t being used for anything.

  • Well, so long as it makes the game better, I don’t care how long it’s delayed (within reason). If it increases the quality of the product, then, by all means delay it for as long as they need.

  • “Why not just say, “We’re working on getting it out to you as quick as possible without sacrificing the quality of the game.””

Because you guys keep [DELETED] for them to tell you dates. You can’t have it both ways.

“That’s all you care about? You don’t even care that the only game that’s fun is RFOM?”

Why not? Why wouldn’t his only concern be Lair being a great game if he’s going to buy it? I don’t know why they’d delay it for something like Leaderboards since everyone’s buying this for it’s epic single player action but it’s only 3 weeks. I’m waiting that long for Persona 3 so it’s not a big deal after you get over the initial shock. It’s not like gamers ever get good games in the summer, so it’s not a big surprise.

And RFOM is not the only fun game, what are you trying to pull. I’m enjoying the “good but average” JRPG Enchanted Arms and Motorstorm and Genji (the only thing bad is the camera, the game is still fun) and Ninja Gaiden Sigma ofcourse.

“I’m sorry but I’d be pissed if I wasted $660 at something which isn’t being used for anything.”

Well done fanboy, you’d be pissed if you had spent money huh. You don’t even own a PS3 and you’re mouthing off…way to troll the Playstation Blog, spend your money then you earn the right to mouth off. Go play whatever system you do have, or do you have so much free time because you don’t have any games to play on those?

  • @TristanMike

hmmmm…what the hell is the point of a release date you ask??…without one there wouldnt be much excitement and anticipation…but when you abuse the release date like what Sony and Developers have been doing from day #1, they(Sony, and even fans) have to expect the general public/fanbase to get pissed.

I’ve seen ALOT of good comments and bad comments with ALOT of people making REALLY valid points and some nonsense…bottomline is…

What will Sony do next to make us believe that they hear us and a change the delays?

  • “I reiterate, the worst part is the same as the PS3 debacle. KKEPING MUM AND NOT INTERACTING AND COMMUNICATING WITH FANS = BAD DECISION. THAT IS WHAT A BLOG IS FOR AFTER ALL.”

They came out and said it was delayed a full 2 weeks in advance instead of waiting until a day or two before release despite knowing in advance of the delay now, I’d say that’s communicating pretty well, even when it’s bad news and not good news.

  • @DaChinPin

Valid point…BUT there are more then just 3 good games…i’m a shooters guy so i funny enough only own 3..Resistance, FEAR, RB6…but Ninja Gaiden is a really good game…so i’d say only like 4 good games….do i hear 5??…going once!…..going twice!

  • I’ll add the “fun but by the book” JRPG Enchanted Arms to the list of enjoyable games as a JRPG fan.
