Lair Update

491 0

Wow, even I didn’t see this one coming! Due to an extra step in QA testing to enhance the community features in the game, the release of LAIR, originally set for August 14th, has changed to September 4, 2007. Natural challenges that arose while finalizing the offline game to include key online features – such as leaderboards and medal systems – have led to the difficult choice of pushing back the release date. We appreciate everyone’s excitement and patience for the game and look forward to its release on September 4.

    Thank you.
The PSN just keeps getting better.

Thats what I suggested. Its really obvious that they decide to delay Lair right when they announced that the prototype rumble controllers were just handed to several Sony developers. Sony is probably using this whole Q&A testing as an cover up. Plain and simple.. :-) We’ll all be happy at the end.

  • @ thechosenfew88

Stop building my hopes up dammit :D

  • Nice update for the NA store. Thanks Sony!

  • @ awheaten

I appreciate your loyalty, believe me, I’m right up there with you in my love for Sony, don’t misconstrue that. I love Sony, and the Playstation brand so much. I too “defend” the Playstation to my friends and on the net, but I don’t appreciate how they have been treating us as of late.

And I feel you seem to be missing the big picture.

How many titles were Officially listed as Launch Titles ? I think there were about 12 released, I remember seeing at least 21 scheduled. Oblivion, for instance, was touted as a “Secret Launch Title”, it even graced the cover of the OPM before it’s death…but yet…it was delayed….and delayed…and the “fixes” that we got, everyone else got too…nothing special. And where is the Downloadable Content for it ? Who’s hands is it in ? Bethesda ? or Sony ? Then there’s F.E.A.R. another “Launch” game, that looks worse on the PS3 than it does on any other platform…delayed, delayed, delayed. How about games like Fatal Inertia, once a PS3 exclusive, now on the “Other system” and “delayed indefinitely” for the PS3. What about the GTA debacle (no, I’m not going to go all wonky for some mystery title from Rockstar). How about Haze…is it exclusive ? or timed exclusive ? Or how about Calling All Cars, another last minute, “Hey, I know we said we were done…but……” Motorstorm, Resistance Map Packs, I can really go on….and I do really want to go on…..

Now, on the flip side….can you really give me 5 games Sony has “stole” from the competition ?

You praise the 100 dollar price cut, and though I am glad to see PS3’s in the hands of more people, I am genuinely P***ED OFF too. I spent 750 dollars on my PS3….JUST MY PS3…last week, my cousin bought a PS3 (with the emotion engine) and got a free Blu-Ray remote, 5 free Blu-Ray movies, and the game The Darkness for 702 bucks….that’s 50 bucks cheaper, with a crap load of stuff I had to buy…huh !???? Yeah, I’m so angry I’m flabbergasted.

Sony is suppose to be our liaison, the jam and peanut butter that holds the sandwich together. Right now, I feel like I have one sloppy pb&j sammich.

  • @Makasu

What does the error say when downloading GRAW 2…:::Error::: This version may be inferior to the 360 version….. HAHAHA! I had to let that out. lol. Looking good on IGN though. Can’t wait to play it tonight!

  • Speaking about the 5 free blu-ray movies, how long do they take to arrive?

  • It says “an error has occurred during the installation” before it starts installing (and you see the %-s). I’ve even downloaded it twice to check. This is from the euro store.

  • error code: 80029564

  • @TristanMike

It sucks to see that IGN has Haze under 360/PC/PS3. Is it really an exclusive to the PS3 or a timed exclusive is a good question for Sony to answer….??

  • @384

Sony has signed an exclusitivity deal for HAZE until April 2008 according to IGN.

  • Dream come true indeed. Rumble would be awesome with that game since u use the motion sensing for it much, so u can feel the Dregon strugleling and such. Touchsense FTW! lol.

  • @aaquib

Thanks! Can’t wait to play it THIS year. The new developer diary 3 video looks amazing. This game looks to be very promising, especially the 4 player campaign option.

  • You guys need to stop bothering Sony. WOW, they delayed a game by 2 weeks, soo what? Just be a little patient. Personally, I wont buy it because of WARHAWK, but you guys keep flaming Sony for every little thing. The Store update today will be awesome with 2 brand new demos. You wanted demos, you’re getting them. In-game XMB is in the next major update(according to psu.com), so we wanted in-game XMB, we got it. Stop bothering Sony all the time. LAIR IS DELAYED, THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO! Suck it up and play some Madden on the 14th till the 28th, and then pick up GRAW2 and WARHAWK.

Thank you Sony. I wanted 3 things from the PLAYSTATION 3: Great games, which you are delivering on. Demos on the PS Store, which we’re getting, and in-game XMB which we are also getting.

P.S. Please don’t delay Warhawk or charge more than $35 for it.

  • @TristanMike

I understand what your saying I get the picture and I know what you are talking about. Sorry about your spending. I’m cheap too.

What I’m saying is that PSN and PS3 are not old. Maybe after Home come out and everything, your argument would be legit because we can say hey you had a year to upgrade network, upgrade downloadable content, upgrade gameplay and graphics.
But, I can’t get upset. Me I am going to school for software development at IU. I know how hard it is to program a integer linked list, let alone an operating system or software. I think the guys at Sony are phenomenal coders and I think at the rate they are going they’re going to win this console war. I’ve said it once I’ll say it again: Sony looked at the release date of Lair and said that the game’s not finished so the moved the date. It is as simple as that. The same as with the launch titles and every other game they’ve put out or not.

I think your expectations are way too high at this time. It takes time in software development. You should appreciate what you have its more than what you’ll get from anywhere else.

  • I think Sony earned it, they should win this console war, they have everything to offer, Blu-ray, Wi-fi, HDD in every PS3, Free on-line, I mean it’s a gamers dream console! And yes the games are coming, LAir got delayed so it could be even better than it is, I say let the developers take their time instead of releasing rushed crap! Thats my opinion with MGS4 as well, Let Hideo take his time and make it the best game he can, especialy since this one is his last, I want it to be as epic as possible! With Touchsense rumble as well :) lol. Also unlike the 360, the PS3 is very reliable hardwear! It’s failer rate is 1% as apose to M$ 33% I know most of u agree with me but just wanted to rant it out eihter way lol. They delivered with PSone and PS2, and I they are with PS3.

  • @ aquib

If your not interested in buying it then stop bothering us who are.

    @new_age_soldier
Almost every game I play on the PS3 i think to myself how much better an experience it would be with rumble.

  • @Violater

Me too, Well it don’t kill the whole gaming experience for me, but DAMN do I want it back :( lol. So far it looks like it’s coming back though, lets hope so!

  • Does anybody knows if Sony is at least trying to resolve the GRAW2 problem? I’m so frustated when it happen…

  • @ aaquib

See, that’s the fatal flaw right there…apathy…this perception that “there is nothing we can do”….and that is so wrong. We can speak with the loudest voice we have….our wallets ! We can tell these companies by not buying their products, we are not happy. Or wait a six months, then buy it. Obviously it works, or Sony wouldn’t have dropped the price 100 smackeroonies in less than a year. People said…this is too much, we’re not paying for it…(well, most people did…seems I’m on the Gullible train heading to Suckersville) and Sony dropped the price…pressure my friends, it works.

If you ordered something from a website a whole bunch of times, and nearly every time you did, it was late for one reason or another, or they sent you the “shipped” email, only to find out a few days later that it actually didn’t get shipped, and the shipping will be delayed for a week or two…and these things kept happening, on a regular basis, would you not seek compensation ? Would you not seek a refund in shipping, a discounted price, a coupon….something ? Even worse…go somewhere else ? I know I would, and sure as heck do.

The major difference is that with them, I feel that in the majority of the companies I’ve dealt with, have been more than happy to listen, understand, and help me. Some go quite above and beyond what I would have expected. Giving me full refunds when all I wanted was free shipping on the product. Here, with Sony and the Playstation, I feel like I’m getting ripped off.

What is Sony doing to compensate all the current owners ? Yeah, it’s awesome if you’re jumping on the boat now, you get all that extra stuff…what about us ? It’s like deadlines are almost non-existent, and who gets penalized for it ? Some one must, there are contracts…or is everything done on a handshake and condition someone grows a beard ?

One can’t keep setting expectations, hardly ever follow through with them, and not expect a reaction.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to mention that Stranglehold has also been delayed, AND is region coded….something Sony said wouldn’t happen with games…lied to again…I’m so gullible, when’s the next stop ?

This all just sucks so bad, it makes me sad :(

  • I think this is related to the rumble feature in Sixaxis. It has to be. Why would you change the announcement last minute when everything was going fine? The game is already like a year late. Well I guess if anything, this will make the game even better.

  • @awheaten

Congrats on school, and good luck with it. :)

Again, please, don’t get me wrong, I too believe the coders at Sony, at MS, at Nintendo, on the PC, everywhere, are very talented. It is a very difficult job and I respect the work they do, even if I don’t respect the company on the whole.

My expectations are simple though: honesty and integrity. No false promises. Be fair. I don’t think these are too much to ask….(I am cheap though :P )

If you lie, you’re not honest, and have no integrity.

We’ve already seen False promises, and frequently too I might add.

And, personally, I don’t think this whole situation is fair to the consumers. Sony and the Dev companies still get their money in the end, and we have to wait.

I really believe Sony once had these factors, but they seem to be slipping up these days.

But also, I am still hanging on, otherwise I wouldn’t be here, and so adamant about how I feel about this issue. If I really didn’t care, I’d probably sell my PS3 and move on, but I do care, which is why I’m here. :D

    Good convo. btw.

  • @393

I understand where you’re coming from, but I do think Sony is trying to reach out to 3rd parties and get more 3rd party content. We secured two 3rd party exclusives for this year, something we wanted, and a lot of 3rd party demos are headed to the Store.

However, I do completely agree with you about the price drop. I feel like we’ve been BETA testers for a console that shouldn’t even now be released. They dropped the price, and added 5 free blurays, when we paid $100 more and got 1 bluray! I wish Sony would stop treating early adopters like crap, but Sony is pretty much only after money, and getting great games, demos, and firmware updates will be the only way they’ll get some. I remember waiting in line 17 hours outside best buy paying $750cdn, to get home to see the games look like crap compared to my 360(they looked DISGUSTING at launch). I kept saying to mysef, it’s coming, and the community hyped up PS3 to blow up in March. We are not in August, and we still lack content, and then worst they drop the price :(

  • btw … whats Sony’s stance on licensing Tivo software for the PS3? Come on guys .. we want to hear Sony’s news from Sony not from anyone else. A little bit of transparency can help especially that you obviously have a large fan base so don’t keep pushing our buttons PLEASE. I bought the PS3 on launch and what did I get?
    – The price was reduced by a $100
    – I had to pay for Motor Storm when it came out
    – Now you are talking about a rumble which I also have to pay for, when it comes out
    – And I missed out on the 80GB drive

a year from now the Sony package will include an HDMI cable, you will reduce the price by another $100, Tivo will be pre-installed, add an extra rumble controller, a couple of games and a couple of blu-ray movies , and the hard drive will be 200GB. Now thats a deal that I would like to see!!!

  • Wow, the Blast Factor add on is only $4.99…….Downloading.

  • We need a game to hold us over, we need it now!

  • hmmm alot of people are mentioning the EGM review but other mags have review it as well: Edge gave it a 9, Play gave it a 9, Gamezone gave it a 9, and Gamepro gave it a 3.75 out of 5 (around a 7.5-8 out of 10?). Also I heard that Gameinformer gave it a 9, though I haven’t seen links or scans to prove this. Hmm 5 good reviews versus on bad one? I’ll let you decide who to believe.

  • Oh right, don’t forget the 4 new Rumble SIXAXIS controllers I’ll have to BUY to REPLACE my current 4 SIXAXIS’….*shakes his head*

These tactics seem very shady….almost like another company who’s name seems to escape me at the moment……

  • why has heavenly sword been pushed back to sept. 12 on ebgames release list?

  • Sony, don’t push heavenly sword back too PPLLLLLLEAAAAASSSEEEEEEE! Too much time and patience!

  • @Half_life000111

How ya been .. :)) So you’re telling me with all the systems out right now and your PC you can’t find 1 game that you want to replay or buy besides Lair… granted I really want the game to and it’s tops on my list for August which unfortuneately has been pushed back…

As a gamer there is always a game to play no matter what system you own.. will it be exactly what you wanted to be playing nope.. but it’s not like its aug. 14th right now either so you would have to be playing another game as it is.

I’m sure there is an older game that is your favorite you could go through and beat again for good old fun ;)

  • I own a Mac man………….. not too many games (and my wii bores me) and I don’t want to waste my money on a 360.

  • I’ve been dying for Warhawk, Lair, and Heavenly Sword and I need Lair to wait for Heavenly Sword *which has now been delayed to sept 12

  • this is rediculous. i prepaid before march (yanno, release date??) wtf is going on here? if you guys need some dev help give me a ring.

  • Heh well i guess when your in a gaming funk then your in a gaming funk… There are weeks I have that too where when i look at everything I can’t even get a game into a system that I own… luckily the PSP has been brigning me through some of the console gaming dry spell. FF and FF2, innocent life, and soon I will get the Harvest moon:boy or girl port to try that out since I liked innocent life.

  • My god……….. we all know the ps3 WILL DOMINATE THE MARKET. You see and play the games and you love them. They’re addicting and fun, but the patience, this drought of games is killing us all. Just push one game out sony. One game. Like I’ve mentioned before, RELEASE THIS GAME ON AUG. 14 AND PATCH IT OVER THE PSN NETWORK!!!!!!!

  • Kedaro, when a company owned by Sony makes an official statement in EGM that says, “When the PS2 HDD releases in March we will have a ton of Socom download material” then that is a promise. Well the HDD came in March. Sony had said there was a multimedia player that would organize the library and be the center of a media hub. It wasn’t included.

March arrived and no SOCOM maps. E3 that year came and did Sony mention SOCOM maps? No. Did Zipper? No. Did Sony mention the HDD? Yes. What did they say at E3? “We are seeking an alternative to the HDD such as a larger memory card.” That was it.

What was the worst part of this all? FAILURE TO TELL YOUR FANBASE WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON.

When did the first SOCOM map appear? December. Cost? $7.99. We had to buy OPM to get it. 1 map was all that came out. 9 months late we get 1 map. Over the period of 3 months we received a total of 3 maps. Now you can flap your mouth all you want about the HDD being only for FF but that isn’t true.

Sony promoted the media center and the HDD as such and they promoted the HDD for DLC. And their game developers promoted DLC. Games such as Syphon Filter which Sony themselves would be the first game along with SOCOM II to receive DLC. The Syphon Filter DLC never came. Ever.

We have every right to ‘bother’ Sony as some erringly call it. We paid for a console based upon certain claims. Now we have gone out, slugged it out on message boards, been the failtful few, tried to keep Sony out of the dirt and we look back at the end of the battering ram and someone isn’t there holding up their end. Sony will win this but not without their fans and they won’t have the hardcore gamers if they don’t demonstrate they give a rat’s ass about those gamers that already own a PS3.

Many people on this board think some of us have an issue with the game arriving September 4th. We don’t. I wouldn’t care if it had to come in October. Just don’t tell me August and then make it September. Don’t tell me July, then make it August then say it is gold then tell me September. See the problem?

  • @Hatchetforce

All tru bro. All true…… :-(

This is true, the core of the matter is that we were all 100% sure the game was comming Aug. 14. It was said to go GOLD. Then we were backstabbed near the announced date of launch, 2 weeks till the launch date. That hurt us, it hurt us alot. We’ve been dying to get our hands on a new AAA game and this we were pratically guarenteed to get on Aug. 14. We had our hopes up on our callender and those hopes were crumbled, this hurts your fans Sony, it really does. Next time don’t get our hopes up so they can crumble. Insomniac learned this with the Map Pack release dates changing, so be advised to take this into consideration.

  • I just made another blog account with my PSN id instead of some random name. This is thechosenfew88… Just announcing the change.

    Enjoying the blog!

  • Yea, I dont buy it either. They never tell you what the real problem is, especially if it makes them look bad.

Basicly they had a good release date, 2 weeks before Warhawk and HS. I would have bought it. Now it will be a rental because i’ll get my multiplayer fix off Warhawk and my campaign off HS. Lair will be my rental if I even remember. =)

  • PSN account is Link01… contact me for RFOM, Motorstom, or Warhawk when it comes out!

  • PS, DOES ANYBODY RELIZE HEAVENLY SWORD HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK TO SEPT 12, LOOK ON EBGAMES’ RELEASE DATES.

  • Does, anybody care that this not only delayed us from getting another AAA game sooner but also pushed back the AAA game Heavenly Sword back by about 2 weeks to Sept 12?
