As most of you know, last Wednesday we announced a new exclusive game development deal with NCSoft, the company behind big MMO games like Lineage and City of Heroes. We’ve been getting a lot of questions about it and thought you might be interested in checking out this interview our friends at Global Gaming League and Epileptic Gaming did with NCSoft’s President of North America.

  • SO DAMN UPSET I HOT SUBMIT TOO FAST

Mr. Karraker what are you doing? Are you learning how to use Excel or learning to use an Abacus! I can’t do anything but think of insults because, as a playstation fan I feel like SCEA is extremely insulting to their fans!

    Where are the Demos?
    Where are the Firmware Updates?
Where is the 2-way communication this blog was setup for?

What are you execs doing over there?

Take your feet off your desk and get something done that makes the GAMERS feel like Sony is doing something for the Gamers!!!!!!

  • im exciting to see this for the PS3!!

  • Great job, now if we could just get a Heavenly sword demo tomorrow in the US store, it would be great, and could possibly help the sales when people know what they are getting into.

  • Great interview and great news for the PS3. According to the interview we’re in for a long wait for any games, but at least they’ll be exclusive to the PS3!!

  • 2008 the year of NC/Sony? Good times, Good times had by all.

  • demos please!!!!!!!

  • need demo’s and an update with an PS1/PS2/DVD upscaler… i want to play my PS1/PS2 games in 1080p…

  • @Sony

Will there be a firmware update for the new PSP to upscale my 31 UMD movies on my HDTV or will it be ready to go straight out of the box.

Please give us PSP slim specs, firmware updates for PS3 and that wonderful Heavenly Sword Demo. Sooner than later.

    See yall tomorrow! ONE

  • This isn’t on topic at all but i thought i’d ask anyway..

what’s the deal with the Psp Camera + Gps? It seems like they’ve released everywhere BUT here. I haven’t heard anything at all about potential release dates or even why they’ve been delayed.

What’s with the lack of information?

and slightly related.. when is the PS3 Eye hitting the market? anyone have an approximate date?

  • Good game. I really look forward to seeing what they come up with, I hope they make Guild Wars 2 for PS3 so I won’t need a Windows Vista license.

  • Awesome… Can’t wait to see some great MMO’s on the PS3.

People complain on this blog to much… Never satisfied…

  • I want to see Guild Wars 2 for the PS3!

  • The PS3 sales this week destroyed the 360 despite it’s higher price and lack of game library. Please continue to keep these lower prices and surely PS3 will finish off the 360 as a pathetic system just like the original X-Box!!!

  • Stop complaining about the price drop. It’s done already, i’d like to move onto something more interesting. Perhaps enhancing the PS3’s multiplayer capabilities by allowing multiple users to log in on one machine at the same time. Microsoft actually hit that feature on the head. Also… DEMOS!!!!

  • Cool,but I need Updates,DEMOS,and Home.

  • Make NCSoft bring Exteel to PS3!!!!

  • cant we all just post “DEMOS! DEMOS!” all the time? maybe they hear us?

  • Tabula Rosa looks pretty cool, but I’m not into MMOs (except Agency, because it’s just so different!)

    Anyhow, yes… Sony…

    Demos! Lair and Heavenly Sword!

And once the 60 gig runs out, we need to see a price cut on the 80 gig to 500 or 450 and we need to see better BC on the 80 gig…

Don’t let the price cut be a joke.

  • Nice but I want:

    Demos
    More PSN Games

    AND

    a new Twisted Metal!!!

  • “And I want a toilet made of gold” (Austin Powers)

  • Ok I had a rush of blood last night.

As some of you know Microsoft has the XNA initiative which allows home brew developers to at least deploy their creation on the Xbox 360 via a subscription system ( which I’m not keen on ).

If Sony could port ( or help some indie developers do it ) Mono ( http://www.mono-project.com/ – the free version of .NET ) to the PS3 and PSP and then supply some man power to get Mono.Xna ( http://code.google.com/p/monoxna/ ) working on the these 2 platforms there would be a wealth of home grown games that they could publish on PSN. Make the tools free to develop, but only the hand picked few, that meet very high standards of gameplay and graphics, get their games published on PSN.
The recent DBP competition proves that there are some very talented indie developers out there that could be tapped into. Heck even Nintendo are bringing out Wiiware for indie developers. Going the Mono route would be the most cost effective way of supporting this growing sector.

I’m working on some new IP using XNA and would rather it ran on reliable hardware like a PS3, than on Xbox 360.

So who’s with me……… I’ll take that silence as everyone’s in then.

  • CONSUMERS WANT FULL XMB OVERLAY WITH MUSIC + FRIENDS WHEN HOME BUTTON IS PRESSED!

An Emptier, featureless tomorrow on the PSN.

I expect nothing from Sony’s Firmware Updates anymore. I’ve been too disappointed already to be honest at the time frame these features are coming out. Recently, Eric Lempel, the Director of PSN Operations, gave an interview to GameTrailers (GT) where he answered if In-Game XMB (full considering: friends, photos, music, game, users, and settings with the clear exception of video) would be in a game after the home button would be pressed by answering “It’s Definitely Possible. And again, it’s something we’re working on.” The fact that it’s definitely possible doesn’t ALLEVIATE my unintelligible faith in them. Either you know it’s coming or you don’t. Saying it’s definitely possible is akin to saying it’s probable but we don’t know for sure. It seemed like a really iffy answer. Adding to all of this especially was when he said “some of the features are really minor.” Some of these things were demanded along side DVD Upscaling since day one. And yet, to this day, our wishful PSN prayers of that magical but unreal “2.00″ or any happiness in the thought of the features to arrive on the console were furtively chasmed with the faux pas “We’re listening to the consumers, and all of those features are being worked on,” or “They are definitely coming or we will have those.” 9 months to date and the only fruition of these answers have been in the form of Japan receiving one most popularly demanded feature: Wallpapers. Whereas, North America or any other region gets nothing but false hope and rumor after rumor from a dying flower or another man with the mistaken identity of a sad Leah rosebud. Bottom line: strong companies confident in their online strategy and performance don’t do these things. They don’t have to. What kind of a message does this type of behavior send to the online community and, more importantly, your customers? Weakness. All of this and more can be nothing that represents a positive signal for a better, brighter tomorrow.

-An Angry Sony Supporter (Michael L.), more angry at Eric Lempel.

P.S. Mr.Lempel if you read this, I demand you give a more detailed and a less vacuous answer for an already otiose online “Playstation Network” service than ” It’s definitely possible, and it’s something we’re working on. These features are minor in some cases.”

  • DarkKing, STFU and sell your PS3 if you don’t like it. Quit wasting space with paragraphs that nobody will read because you can’t figure out how to use the line break function when typing.

  • Hi, I’d just like some kind soul to update me on if theres anything new in the PS Store because I’m currently at work and I like to refresh the blog every half hour or so XD

  • You know. As much as I complained about Demos. They are not going to release the demo of Heavenly Sword sooner.

PS3 sales are doing fine because of the “price drop” and you dont need anything to rush it even more right now because they are already going out of the shelves.

If they add something more, they are probably not going to have enough PS3 to meet the demand they are currently having.

And a Demo is probably nice to release a couple of weeks before the game comes out. You are thrill by the game and then you go and buy the whole thing.

Release too soon and the crew will forget about the game. Too later and the Demo is worthless.

  • ” big6boy | July 18th, 2007 at 4:33 pm
That is the most retarded argument against the price-drop I have read thus far. I might be stretching it here, but I’m going to guess you are not an Economics major… LOL!
So the Xbox Elite comes out at a higher price than the other 2 models, thereby giving consumers 3 SKUs to look at. Then, in the future, if the original base Xbox360 becomes phased out, leaving only 2 SKUs (leaving only Hardcore and Elite models) – then would we be hearing you scream that “Microsoft INCREASED the price of the Xbox!!!”? Nice try, Peter Moore! *peels off The Hedon’s facemask*”

Poor kid is clueless. I feel sorry for big6boy.

  • MID-EAST-ASSASIN

Yea, we need demos, and also you guys need to cheepen things up a bit at the ps store, i mean, 8 bucks to fly around as green goblin?

  • @ The Hedon:

What’s the matter? Feeling a bit defeated by your own “logic”?

  • @122(darkKing)

I completely agree. Im sick and tired of all these promises, and then getting nothing. Keep in mind this should’ve been a LAUNCH feature. The 360 had this since November 22/05. PS3 launched a year later, and in March 2006, Phil Harrison showed video chat through in-game XMB, but it never happend. At the least Sony could ATLEAST say: “Guys, we’re working on it. Hold tight, we hope to have it by September.” This blog is supposed to be a 2 way communication so Sony can listen to what we have to say. Every blog post all we write about is in-game XMB + firmware 2.0, but they’re not responding. It’s clear they read the comments and they know we want it, so why not acknowledge it?? Sony needs to improve their communication with us, and so far, the blog hasn’t helped too much.

  • @aaquib

    I second that big time!

Although I do not fully agree with the way darkKing expressed himself.

  • @ The Hedon & big6boy

Lets just leave the pricing strategy to Sony and let them call it whatever they want. There really is no need to continue going back and fourth about the “price cut” or “clearance sale” people seem to debate about. Lets just all rejoice playing our games on the PS3!! :-)

  • Well, it looks like “we” xbox 360 owners have another demo to put in our collection. Juiced 2 has just been added and I’m eager to see the improvements they’ve made to the game. Although I prefer Need for Speed any day over that game.

Another thing, is Ace Combat 6 going to be Xbox 360 exclusive only, or is it timed exclusive? Because that game would surely be fun using the Sixaxis controller with the “rumble” feature. LOL! And I’m sure it would look amazing! I have the 360 demo version and boy does it look nice….

  • @ dMcNab92

I could have easily said everything you typed in just three words.

    We Want Demos!

Is it really necessary to write Demos 50 million times to get a point across? I’m sure Sony sees Demos around this blog plenty of times already, so there is no point in write demos so many times in just one comment. Have sense here people.

    @ The Hedon:

What’s the matter? Feeling a bit defeated by your own “logic”?”

If that makes you feel better about yourself ;-)

  • I heard in another forum Darkness is in the Europe Stores Maybe we can have Heavenly Sword this week and darkness next. FLip Flop.

  • Can someone tell me about the PSN content that is available on Thursdays. I just got a PS3, and I really don’t know how things go about. Is it a certain time they put stuff up every Thursday, or is it a wait and see throughout the day?

  • I realllyy hope that one of those MMOs is Aion, and that Sony makes like Spore and evolves to a vertebrae so Rockstar can release Manhunt 2.

  • @thechosenfew88

I don´t know man. I just get so happy when PSN Store is updated I don´t even check the date.

But officially yes. Thursday is the day.

  • 137- Around 5 EST

  • @ blizzard & Philly

    Thanks!

  • hey chosenfew88, i think its random at what time Thursday cuz sometimes I wake up at like 1am and check…nothing, but by the time i get home after work at like 5:30 they got stuff up. So i don’ think there is a set time but I could be wrong.

OH! is anyone else a little pissed that the Japanese PSP’s are gonna have a sweet Final Fantasy PSP model?!? I know I AM!

  • can somebody tell me how 2 hook up ps3 straight
to computer monitor when i do it black screen only

  • @deadxbabiesxinc

I am only pissed about the new TV adaptor for PSP. It works only in the PSP Slim

  • Another thing, whats up with the theme on the PS3? Can you change at least the different colored wave type screen saver like on the PSP? Or is that not even an option yet?

the pics of the Crisis Core package :( I want it! lol

    @ Blizzard182

But aren’t we getting the Slim in September? Or did you mean the Japanese version that I think I mightve heard on G4tv last night on Attack of the Show

  • @thechosenfew88
Did you mean wallpaper or the actual screensaver that comes on after a few minutes of idleness cuz if you mean wallpaper…not an option yet…which i don’t understand cuz the PSP already has it…and i [DELETED] about in every blog when they ask what we want in our firmware update haha

  • @deadxbabiesxinc

Nono, neither. I meant an adapter that goes in the USB of the new PSP Slim and it connects to several TDT.

    http://www.psp-vault.com/Article1052.psp

    Look for the 1Seg Tuner

  • Also, nice PSP Slim video.

    http://www.vidaextra.com/2007/07/12-e3-2007-video-de-la-psp-slim

Is in Spanish. Just click on the video and do not pay attention to anything else xD
