High Velocity Bowling
Hi everyone. This is PJ, and I’m a senior producer at SCEA San Diego. There has been a ton of talk about the origins of High Velocity Bowling since the title was shown at Gamer’s Day in May. We didn’t get a whole lot of coverage during the event, due to all of the other amazing games that were shown, and High Velocity Bowling kind of got grouped with the other PlayStation Network games. It’s a pretty common misconception that High Velocity Bowling is Sony’s “answer” to Wii Sports Bowling. We came up with the idea of using the SIXAXIS controller for bowling on August 23rd, 2006 – I know the exact date because it was my birthday…Eddy Cramm (who is a Sr. Designer on MLB ’07) and I had taken the day off to get a couple rounds of golf in, a rare luxury these days. Out on the course, we talked about using the controller as a bowling interface (we both carry 200+ averages in our current bowling league) and both loved the idea. He sent a text message to our studio director that night and my team (small, but dedicated) started work on it the next day. While we weren’t surprised by the inclusion of bowling in Wii Sports a month later, we knew that we were taking it a step further once that game launched. I know I’m looking forward to the launch of High Velocity Bowling and hope you all like the ladder/progression/unlocking mechanic that we’re going with.

  • Yeah so far weve heard from the President of sony, a PR dude and some devs but we want the name and blog from the guy who is responsible for the Thursday PSN Updates.

We want to know how much time is spent every week at Sony getting these PSN updates ready. 5 minutes?? Small websites can update DAILY with more content then Sony can handle WEEKLY!! Thats sad.

Who do we ask where the PS1 games are?

Who do we complain about the lack of PSN content to? We want a name!!

  • Hey good job on providing great content for the playstation store. I love waiting every week to go check it out and see exciting stuff like MLB the Show video # 67 and re watching trailers for games that i seen a month ago. I mean why would i want demos when i can watch 20 sec game trailers over and over all day. I also love waiting for updates to the only worthwhile games on the system (resistance & motorstorm) only to be delayed for a week, then 2 weeks, then a month. good job, thats gotta build hype right? But my favorite thing is when im playing resistance and someone sends me a message so i quit the game cause i have to go the XMB to view their message. Thinking they wanna play with me only to find out they just wanna talk about upcoming games(what else is there to talk about). good times sony

  • Whoever is in charge of updating the PSN needs to be fired stat!,

That may seem pretty harsh, but thats the reality of the situation.

I seriously have no idea how the people involved with the updates are able to sleep at night knowing that they just uploaded another MLB 07 video and called it a day!!

    Ridonkulous!!!

  • i agree 100% and get a new stuff in there

  • Who is the PSN team anyways? Is there even one? Why did OPM get canceled? I thought it was because they were of no use after the PSN came out? I dont see the amount of previews/interviews/demos/videos that OPM had.

PSN needs some people who are excited about it working on it. I’ll work from home! You have my email.

  • Yes why did you cancel OPM?!! At least they could handle a steady stream of good Demos and Content!! OPM > PSN

  • Its bowling time. Let me go get my shoes.

  • OPM only had a few demos per month, some months they only had one. We at least have one demo a week average in the PSN store. I already have downloaded more demos since I got my PS3 than I got in one year with OPM.

Also take note that there where many games coming out a month for the PS2. The PS3 so far only has a few games coming out a month. Let the games start rolling in and I am sure we will see more content on the PS store.

  • Looks like fun. I might finally be able to sway the wife into playing. That is what PS3 really needs. something to entice the casual gamer, something quick and fun…

BUT please!!!!!!!!!! please please please get the controls right. would it be feasable to make a new control with different design to take advantage of such games with the SIXAXIS? (Not like the Wii, i hate that things control!)

    Keep up the good work…

  • Looking forward to this game~! Too be a little honest I am looking forward to any game -_-: but this game looks good.

  • Just downloaded the “Go! Puzzle” demo, and I have one question: WHY DON’T THESE GAMES SUPPORT CUSTOM SOUNDTRACKS?

“Go! Puzzle” is a decent, cheap means of getting a high-def. puzzle fix; however, with the omission of the ability to use your own tunes as background music, I’m no longer interested.

Isn’t the PS3 supposed to be a high-end multimedia device? So why aren’t features like custom soundtracks put to use? *SIGH*

  • Hey SONY! I just thought I would help you guys out with the PSN. I found this review on the net and thought it might help you guys out a little. I know you are VEEERY BUSY at the moment so here it is: http://www.goodgearguide.com.au/index.php/taxid;2136212887;pid;3684
I LOVE YOU SONY and GOOD LUCK!

  • looks fun! Where do I make requests for PS1 games going to PS3/PSP? Anyway. How about Legacy of Kain (the original ) with better load times. Final Fantasy 7,8 and 9. Or how about some Dreamcast Games like Soul Caliber and Marvel vs Capcom. Or Atari Jaguars Alien vs Predator (vs Space Marine for anyone that actually played it)

  • Wii Cabinet - » Sony: HVB is not our answer to Wii Bowling

[…] Click here for Report […]

  • This is great, I am a real life bowler, who has been bowling since I was 4 years of age, and I honestly see that HVB and SIXAXIS, will help the serious bowlers improve swing and approach skills. So I will definitely be happy to own this.

  • Is there a release date for the game, I was hoping that it would come in June, but no such luck.

IGN had this for June (Let be clear, I know that the date is not official, however, I did hope that it was in June)

    Link to that: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/789/789212p1.html

Is there some sort of time frame that can be given ?

  • Hey man you dont have to explain to us. We dont think you stole any ideas from the wii …But its nice to know how you got the idea keep the blog posts coming :D keep up the great work at scea san diego

  • Enough with the motion-sensing gimick.. That would require using the PS3 controller… (shudders). Why not just make a good quality game that doesn’t rely on Wii controls?
