Here’s what to expect in the upcoming Predator: Hunting Grounds Trial Weekend, starting this Friday

Details on the character classes, missions, map and more for the 4v1 multiplayer title

I hope you are sharpening your hunting skills for the upcoming Predator: Hunting Grounds Trial Weekend* starting 27th March.
Here at IllFonic, we wanted to give you a preview of what you can expect this weekend where you will get to immerse yourself into the Predator universe as either the Predator or a member of an elite 4-person Fireteam. Each with their own set of weapons, abilities and tactics to survive. Whether you’re playing on your PS4 or PC during the trial this weekend, you will be spending time in one of our multiple maps, called Overgrowth.

The map

Nestled deep in the South American mountains lies Overgrowth. As you enter the map you will feel the claustrophobic environment of the dense jungle. It will make you feel a bit lost as you try to make your way on the jungle ground or up in the trees, depending on which character you are playing as.

This hot, remote jungle location harbours a significant presence of hostile guerrilla forces and operatives from the rogue Project Stargazer, a former government program now attempting to gain financially from discovering alien tech. Both Fireteam and Predator players will have to contend against these dangerous enemies while facing each other.

The occupation of this hidden valley has uncovered a wealth of hidden ancient ruins surrounding a winding river. Something about this location seems to allow temperatures to climb higher than just about anywhere else in these mountains…a perfect place for the Predator to hunt.

Team up against the Predator

If you choose to play as a member of the Fireteam, know this isn’t your average group of soldiers. This group is elite and extremely deadly. While taking on the Predator one on one is very difficult, as a group you can work together to turn the tables on the hunter, or to complete the mission and escape. Each time you enter the jungle, one of a number of missions is randomly selected to present a constantly shifting gameplay experience. Each mission consists of multiple smaller objectives that must be completed in order to get to the chopper.

In one mission, you and your team are asked to cut off fuel to the local guerrillas, who are buying massive fuel shipments from an elusive black market contact. You’re being sent in to find the fuel stores and destroy them, disrupting operations in the area for the foreseeable future. Once the fuel has been dealt with, you will need to find the black market operative and take them off the board. In addition to this mission, and hunting the Predator if you choose, you could be asked to accomplish multiple other random missions like sabotage an expensive solar array in enemy camps, destroy dangerous weapon stores, set fire to narcotics, clean up contaminated water sources, and many more.
There are four Fireteam classes in Predator: Hunting Grounds, and during this trial weekend we will be showcasing three: Assault, Scout and Support. The Assault class is a well-rounded specialist with an affinity for leading the mission. If staying light on your feet is important, choose Scout, a quick, agile soldier that can cover the combat areas at great speed. Lastly, you can choose to play as Support, this is the Fireteam member they call in to really soak up the damage with their extra health and damage resistance. In addition to choosing your Fireteam class, you can choose from a wide range of weapons providing different tactical options. During the trial weekend, you can choose from a selection from each weapon type category, eg. shotgun, assault rifle, sniper, etc.

As you level up weapons in-game you will be able to unlock upgrades like scopes, magazines, and suppressors to improve their efficiency. While you are playing over the trial weekend, keep in mind that as a member of the Fireteam there are perks, medkits, ammo bags, and other tools available to you. These tools will prove useful while in the midst of battles with the enemy AI forces, and the Predator who is somewhere hunting you!

Hunt as the Predator

Now, if you decide you want to jump into the jungle as the Predator, there is a lot happening for you in-game as well. You are the hunter, but do not forget you can be hunted too. Your mission in our game is to hunt for the best trophies. And by trophies, I mean the skulls of your prey. You want to take out the best of the best.

In Predator: Hunting Grounds there are three classes of Predator: Hunter, Berserker, and Scout. Every class of Predator has its strengths and weaknesses. During the trial weekend, you will be able to navigate across treetops as the Hunter class. This Predator class is well-balanced and an adaptive warrior capable of taking on a number of situations with ease. Players will be able to choose between the Female and Male Hunter and even select different armour to customize their own look.

As the deadliest hunter in the universe, you have access to a plethora of off-world tech and weaponry. The classic arsenal will be the foundation of each Predator loadout. The Plasma Caster for ranged combat, the wrist blades for close encounters, infrared vision mode to track down your prey, and advanced cloaking for staying stealthy. Other weapons, perks, and gear will be available for unlock as players level up, such as the Smart Disc, Combistick, and more.

And, not to worry, if the Fireteam bands together and gives you a run for your money, you have one last chance to end their efforts, by using your self-destruct.
Now that you know what to expect this weekend, we hope you make some time to hunt with us! The trial will be available to download this Friday in Japan at 3pm JST, in Europe at 4pm GMT, and in North America at 5pm PST.
We’ll be sharing some tips and tricks here soon so be on the lookout!

  • Remember: “If it bleeds, we can kill it”

Also remember, if all else fails, “Get to the choppa!”

  • So, as I understand it , now instead of exclusives and AAA, Sony will release games like this, right ? OK, PS5 I’m not waiting anymore. I really hope that my opinion will change. But in the meantime, I’ll play Half Life:Alyx, perhaps. We could have moved it to PS4-5(VR) by the way. Otherwise, investing in a good PC, so far clearly looks more promising than buying a PS5..

“Exclusives” you released on the PC. New announcements, this is not a single AAA, it’s cooperative Predator! PS5 so far looks clearly weaker than the Xbox Series X… Sony, you disappoint us… Wake up!

    (Sorry for my english)

    • heck you on about? All that just based on this one game?

    • Journey, Horizon, Detroit, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, all on PC. But no PC games on Playstation, like Hilf Life. Very, very bad presentation… First multiplatform game, and it not single AAA – what we expect from Sony, it is another coop game!

I’m not a hater, and I really hope that Sony will be able to convince me to want a PS5. But for now, I’m inclined to stay on the PC, maybe one day I’ll take the Xbox Series, i’m very used to having a console. But PS5… I want to want her , but for now, I just don ‘t see the reason, unfortunately..

P.S.I like PS, 2, 3, 4, PSP and even PSVita, I just adore PSVR, and I also like the old Sony, the course they followed, their events. But what is happening to them now… It looks like this is a completely “different Sony”…

    • No PC games on PS4? How about Pillars of Eternity 1/2, Divinity Original Sin 1/2, Neverwinter Nights/Baldur’s Gate/Icewind Dale/Planescape, Black Desert Online etc?

Go away fanboi, spout your PC Master Race BS elsewhere.

    • I’m fanboy??? Seriously? No! But, i’m really don’t like <<new>> Sony.

“How about Pillars of Eternity 1/2, Divinity Original Sin 1/2,” this is a multiplatform!

Where is Half life:Alyx? But here are former exclusives coming out on PC, and yes I have a PC.

When I bought the PS4, I told my wife that I was taking it for games that aren’t available on other platforms.

Now, how can I justify spending money on a PS5 if I can  play all game on a PC?

Again, I really like the PS4, it has a lot of games that are not available anywhere else, but the PS5… There is not a single announcement of an AAA exclusive game! Just an uninteresting presentation.

In General, it looks like after Sony decided to release their games on the PC, they are going to invest not in AAA systemsellers, but in games like Predator..

Something similar we could be seen at Microsoft, when they stopped releasing exclusive games on Xbox. After that, the AAA titles almost stopped coming out, in favor of AA games for Xbox Pass. But the Xbox Series X is more powerful, and the Xbox has a Xbox Pass. And Microsoft has one ecosystem, I can buy one game on my PC and Xbox.

So yes, if instead of AAA exclusives on the PS5 will be released games like Predator, and multiplatform will work better on Xbox, then why would I want a PS5?

I’ll stay on the PC, maybe in 2 years later, I’ll buy an Xbox. Damn, right before the announcement of the PS5, Sony announced that their exclusive is coming to the PC, and then did not even bother to make an interesting presentation of the PS5! I do not understand what is happening with Sony after the change of the top management in SCEI.. Don’t to be a fanboy yourself! I want to want a PS5! But Sony does everything that I would not want a PS5. Tell me, why do I need a PS5?

New game from Sony – coop Predator! Presentation, really terribly! Trust me, i really like the Playstation, but I’m really worried that Sony with they thirst for easy money and a change of top management, just ruin the Playstation..

      (Sorry for my english)

    • No, they were PC exclusives which later got ported to console. Just like Day Z, PUBG and H1Z1. They were originally exclusives but then ported to console, something TOTALLY different to being multiplatform from the off or even a times exclusive which makes them PC GAMES ON CONSOLE.

Strange how you can’t see that through your PCMR rose tinted spectacles though.

    • Three problems with your statement. Firstly, every game you list other than Bore-izon isn’t a game Sony made. Third parties can publish it wherever they want. Secondly, Sony’s weird presentation wasn’t a consumer presentation or even a reveal, but some weird developer presentation they decided to show anyway. The actual reveal will happen at some point and should (hopefully) feature some actual games.

Now the third, and most important. Half Life as a series is one of the most overrated yet utterly boring game series ever created. It’s best rated second game is just a tedious, easy shooter with limited dull game play (walk down corridor, fight same 3 enemies and watch lots of forced drawn out “movie like” segments of tedious boredom). People only pretend to like it because they think they have to, and are scared to admit they think it’s a bland, rather short, funless husk which has dated terribly..

I couldn’t give a crap if anything from that series came to PS5, or PS4. I own a PC, but wouldn’t pay any money at all for a game made by that company. I’d rather play Bore-izon (I wouldn’t want to do that either).

  • Looks fun. And given the rather limited options of other activities we currently have being mostly stuck at home I’m definitely giving this a go.

  • Cool I am going to download it and play this weekend

  • This game will make you a god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus.

  • the screenshots look AMAZING

  • I have one question, why wasn’t there, and why isn’t there beta version?

    • Basically every game has a beta version. However, not every developer wants or needs it to be a public test.

    • wait the beta version is not availble to everyone???

    • PS + exclusive test..

Its not going to be single player so the demos no use to those with out plus as when the full title releases you won’t be able to play it. or you wont need to buy it as you need PS+ any way…

  • Anyone else struggling with pre order content? Can we access that in beta?
