Godfall announced for PlayStation 5, bringing looter-slasher action to next gen

Keith Lee, CEO of Counterplay Games introduces us to a new genre with Godfall

We founded Counterplay Games with the singular desire to create games focused on high levels of personal mastery, rewarding players for the time invested with our titles. We get to accomplish both with Godfall and the hugely exciting PlayStation 5 hardware.
Our goal with Godfall is to reforge fantasy ARPG-style loot progression and third-person melee combat into a whole new genre: The Looter-Slasher. Namely, our game is uniquely one-part gear driven and one-part player-skill driven. Godfall retains the desire for offense-oriented, mastery-driven combat, rewarding you with head-turning, powerful loot that then inspires your next set of character builds.

Godfall’s third-person melee combat is fluid, dynamic and interactive, embracing offense over defense. While many games these days create one-off cat-and-mouse challenges for players, we want to broaden combat encounters with enduring replayability. In Godfall you can expect satisfying one-against-many enemy encounters along with challenging head-to-head boss fights.
Godfall on PS4
Godfall’s designed from the ground up with co-op in mind. You can play the entire game in solo, duo or trio. Your enemies will respond dynamically, mutating their behavior and attack patterns based on your group size. Our goal for co-op is stronger together, and fun for all.

You can expect to hear much more about Godfall next spring. We’re honored to bring Godfall to you on PlayStation 5 in late 2020. Learn more at Godfall.com and stay tuned!

  • Please have offline play as a option, it was so annoying to find out it was removed from Diablo. And as we know any game playable solo (by choice) absolutely should not require the internet to play

  • This is a launch title?

  • One thing “ARPGs” always lack is a character maker. Or at least a very good one, so that would be a welcome addition (unless it’s already there).

It’s always crappy in co op games to see the same 3-5 playable characters over and over and over.

  • So much like Kingdom Hearts but in Coop, sounds promising expecially for the fights. If you think about it Kingdom Hearts battles are full of enemies and always end with a Giant Boss Battle plus the combat system of KH requires some skills and knowledge now im in hype

  • It it’s like Borderlands with a big campaign and the ability to play solo offline, then I’m in. If it’s always online “live serice” and not an ordinary video game, then I’m out.

  • Ngl, that didn’t look half bad

  • If its on Unreal Engine 4, which I’m going to assume it is, then it isn’t being built for PS5 hardware. You are tied to the constraints of what the engine is capable of.

And I’m not sure why its being made out to be just coming to PS5 when it’s very likely it will be coming to the just announced Xbox U console too (sorry couldn’t help myself, if only the joke name I said was worse then the name they actually went with lol).

Death Stranding is going to PC way too soon and MLB is going to other platforms too. There is no way this 3rd party game is going to be exclusive to PS5 in 2020, not that you said that it is but still.

    • When they say “built for the PS5” they just mean built to target the hardware used by the console. Remember that UE4 can already be used to make games that target PC hardware much more powerful than a PS5 likely is, and that the PS5 is essentially just a buffed up PS4 with a similar software environment. UE4 isn’t really “limited” in any practical way, as you can edit it at the lowest level to do pretty much whatever you want, and add to it whatever your programming skills allow.

As to releasing on other consoles/PC, who really cares? It’s a business at the end of the day, if Sony saw more profit releasing MLB as a Switch exclusive they’d do it, nor does it affect me what Xbone whatever players can play.

Now one problem they might have is claiming they invented the “looter-slasher” genre. As that’s basically what Nioh is..

  • This game looks sick, can’t wait release.
