Dreams Early Access nears its end, Media Molecule announces the IMPY Awards

Award nominations open Monday, winners will be recognised in a special event early next year

Mark your calendars – the first annual awards for Dreams are happening on 26th January! We’ve been so impressed by everything our incredible Early Access players have done. We’ve watched people grow into fully-fledged artists, designers, musicians and more. There have been creations we didn’t think possible (and some we’re still convinced are magic).
So we’ll be celebrating the best of Early Access Dreams content during our live Twitch stream extravaganza… with special guests and fancy clothes and all the award show trappings you’d expect.

Early Access

Now you may ask — does this mean Early Access is nearing an end? Yes, yes it does — the last day you can purchase Early Access will be 8th December, 11.59pm GMT / 9th December 00.59am CET.
Anyone who has purchased Early Access by this date will still be able to play Dreams after the 8th and will upgrade to the full version of Dreams when it launches for no extra cost.
At the studio, we’ve been collecting all the feedback, fixing the bugs and working to make the full version of Dreams the best experience for everyone — those who want to play, those who want to create and those who aspire to learn.
Some of that work includes adding a non-motion control scheme for the game, helping new players learn to create, more tutorials and how-to content for players of all skill levels, improving existing features like Community Jams, the Homespace and Imp Quests and adding more content, including our first piece of Mm story-telling in Dreams, Art’s Dream. We hope you’re going to love all of it and our Early Access players deserve a huge mega-thanks for joining us on this journey.
There is still a tiny bit of time to join the fun in Early Access before it closes but if you prefer to wait for launch we’ll be just as excited to welcome you into the Dreamiverse then. Thanks again to everyone who has supported us along the way — we can’t wait to see what you’ll dream up next and hope you’ll join us to watch the first annual IMPY Awards.

  • Will there be a price hike once it fully launches on the 8th of December?

  • Err, so can we get a release date for this game already, sometime this gen perhaps? I hate to say it but it feels like the games industry has forgot about this game. I never see much about it and if it were to launch even in the next month or 2, I’m sure people either wouldn’t notice or say “I thought this was out already”. Please announce it at something big so it gets a lot of attention, the only big show coming up is the Game Awards, then its GDC really.

Maybe if the PS5 is revealed and talked about in Feb 2020, you should do it there as a way to celebrate the fact that it is 7 years since you debuted the game at the PS4 reveal. But you can use Dreams to talk about how the game will be out on PS4 soon, announce the release date and then talk about how it will run on PS5 at launch with further enhancements. Maybe get the go ahead from Square Enix to show off a user’s amazing FFVII remake level in Dreams since that game will be launching very soon at that point.

    • I guess this is a preparation for it. Taking the EA down before the release date is announced. So people dont use it as a chepaer preorder.

Considering the release date is already leaked, I expect official annoucement next week.

  • i like this thing. i don’t use it a lot and haven’t created anything in it myself but i often see other folk create cool things and i like that i can just boot up my ps4, load Dreams and check out their creations for myself. I’m a very casual Dreams person and glad i bought it at early access price. :)

  • I’m not even a creator and I had a great time in Dreams. Seeing all the stuff people managed to make in this toolset all with only a controller has been simply mind blowing to me. Can’t wait for the full release!

  • Thx you MM for creating this marvel of a creation suit. I say creation suit b/c calling it a game just doesn’t begin to give it the recognition it deserves. It’s an art program both for 2d and 3D, an animation program, a music studio, a game coding IDE, a story telling program and a game for the PS4. And to replace it all on PC would surely demand a whole slew of apps. And somehow you’ve manage to pack it all on into one package. That alone is a feat worthy of recognition. It will live on for a long time on PS5 as well, no doubt. I made some good friends through the Dreams communities and even made friends with some of the MM staff so I’m forever grateful for that. I’ve spread the word about Dreams pretty much at any chance Iv’e gotten since day one. I’ll end with a very famous quote “To infinity and beyond” -Buzz Lightyear.

  • The sheer amount of creativity on display from the Dreams community is mind blowing! Glad to be a part of it!

  • Sounds like it will be F2P lol

  • So after sunday, will everyone who bought Early Access still be able to play everything in the Dreamiverse and upload new creations? Or is just going to be offline mode until the official launch?

I really hope nothing changes for Early Access players.

  • Hi, congratulations for the game, I want to buy the early access before the sale deadline through the browser in the playstation store , but my console has not arrived yet. Can I buy it now and download it days later when the early access is ended ?

    • If I’m not totally wrong I would say, if you bought it until the 8th then you’re good to go and download it later on. When it gets officially released, you’ll be able to upgrade your early access version to the full version (without any additional costs, and you saved yourself half the price).

    • That’s awesome , thanks for the answer!

  • To anyone thinking about getting this game I would 100% recommend it. In my 24yrs playing games nothing has captured my imagination more, I have never played/used anything nor thought anything like this would ever be made or made possible (speaking from a creative perspective atm).

before dreams my ps4 was dormant, tired from all the same games wrapped in different titles and box art but all sticking to a specific genre, Dreams is something truly special it doesn’t fit into any genre but fits them all then creates its own, lets just say you can tell Dreams was a project of love and can’t wait for the story

  • Lots of great info about Dreams! (I was kinda in the dark for a while)

And I do look forward to seeing who the “Hidden-Gem Creator” might be!

  • So not a single mention about planned PSVR support? I’ve got a bad feeling about this.
