What is Final Fantasy VIII Remastered?

Final Fantasy VIII Remastered tells an epic and emotional story about war and love. The militarized nation of Galbadia has formed an alliance with the Sorceress Edea in a bid for world conquest. Amid the conflict, Squall Leonhart and a group of fellow students from Balamb Garden’s mercenary force, SeeD, head into the conflict.

Together with his friends, Squall joins Rinoa Heartilly, a member of a resistance group, on an adventure that holds the fate of their world in its balance.

This Remastered edition of the game enhances the original adventure with some cool new features:

  • Enhanced visuals: Several characters, enemies, GF, and objects have been refined to look better than ever before.
  • Battle Assist: Activate this booster to max out HP and ATB bars – and trigger Limit Breaks at any time. You will lose all HP when you get hit by a critical attack that gives more damage than your HP, or by lethal damage.
  • No encounters: Want to explore without fear of attack? Activate this option to turn off random encounters. Event battles must still be done in order to advance the story.
  • 3x speed boost: Accelerates time by a factor of three – perfect if you want to speed through easy battles or get somewhere in a hurry. This feature will not apply to certain scenes including movies.

  • Finally! The PS1 Golden Age of this series will finally be complete.

    • Not quite, there’s still FF Tactics! I know it never got a European PS1 release but it did everywhere else.

(Also Vagrant story, which is kind of a FF game, as it’s set in the same world as FF XII)

    • Yes it was, FF Tactics was released on the PSP over a decade ago as FFT: War of the Lions, and is still available on the PSN.

  • hope for discount and dynamic theme in pre order,as usual.

  • Noooooo my poor square button lol, day 1 buy :D

  • “Pre-order Final Fantasy VIII Remastered…”

It would be easier if it was available in the PS Store.

  • Pre ordered but where is my theme?

    • It’s probably gonna be like the FF9 one. So most likely when the auto-download starts on the 1st.

I know its stupid since NA and JP get it right away.

  • Pre-ordered but why can’t the uk store give us the theme now? This weird separation of stores and there offers is weird

  • My favourite FF by far. Just loved the environments and atmosphere of this game.

  • Looking forward to this. I loved VIII almost as much as VII, back in the day. Replayed a big chunk of it recently on Vita and its held up nicely. Can’t wait. I’ll probably grab the Switch version, though.

  • One of my favourite FFs. With the extra options added for remastered version, what I’m missing is unlimited magic. Junction system was ok, to a point where using higher tier magic was making you weaker if you had junctioned it.

  • Great return for the 3rd most seller FF :D

Squall and Rinoa new model (from recent Dissidia) are too different for the FMV anyway :/

    I’ll wait for a future remake like FF7 *_*

    • It’s a miracle the popular 7 got a remake and they’ve been at it since PS3. Can always hope, with everything they learned on this.

I would absolutely love it if they would fully remake 8 and 9 as well, so we got the golden PS1 generation to experience anew :o

  • Seems weird the “battle assist” doesn’t draw 99x magic for you. Would be soo nice to be able to skip that rather grindy and badly thought out mechanic.

VIII’s magic system is tied with II (or XV, though XV isn’t a proper FF game) for the worst magic system in a FF game ever.

    • I actually really liked the junction system, altho I was still young then and was my first real time of learning how effective the stats in the game were to tweaking abilities, on FF7 before it I used to equip like 6 summons per character and always wondered why my HP was extremely low lol, when I went back to FF7 after I learned all about junctioning I realised so many mistakes about FF7 and replayed it much easier the second time, so the fact I learned so much from it probably skews my judgment somewhat but I was a big fan.

    • It’s just kind of urgh as a system. Get into fight, grind draws for 90 hours to get spells that you can’t even really use as it lowered stats.

Every time I cleared the game with basically just GFs, limits and basic attacks, the magic, other than a stat grind, was a bit pointless.

    • Agreed: I think that a better system would’ve made this my all time favorite FF (Triple Triad FTW!)…

    • I honestly cant disagree with this either, like I say FF8 was a massive learning experience for me so it definitely skews my memory of it, when I think about the system itself it’s pretty bland, and I dread the thought of drawing 99 ultima again >.< lol
