Get a closer look at the Days of Play 2019 Limited Edition PS4 console

The stunning new Steel Black PS4 is available from today

Hey everyone! The moment I laid eyes on the new limited edition PS4  created to celebrate this year’s Days of Play promotion, I started asking around to see how I could get my hands on one.

The good news is I found one and they let me take photos of it with my trusty Sony a9 + 90mm f/2.8 macro lens. The bad news is I had to give it back.

Either way, I got some lovely photos of the console, which I’d love to share with you here. A few things I noticed while photographing it:

  • The bottom half of the unit is the standard black finish you may already be familiar with, but the top half gets a striking “Steel Black” treatment — not quite a full “matte” finish but not exactly glossy either. It’s smooth to the touch, but doesn’t pick up fingerprints the way a full gloss finish would.
  • The sacred symbols emblazoned on the top / front of the console have a gorgeous brushed metal finish, and when they catch the light juuuuust right… (you probably know the meme I want to embed here).
  • The controller looks similar to the Steel Black Dualshock 4 you may or may not already own, but the four face buttons on this one have been given a striking monochrome treatment. Classy!
  • I really want one.

But that’s enough from me. You’re here for pictures! Feast your eyes below, or (some of which make for mighty fine desktop and mobile wallpapers, if I say so myself):

  • Anyone who wants a PlayStation 4 will purchase a Pro so why is this just for slim consoles? It seems that Sony is relying on eBay touts to lap these up if you ask me.

    • Probably because these are supposed to be “collectables” rather than actually used or something.

Making it a pro would make it more expensive, and more expensive things generally sell much worse. Kind of like how the Pros sales aren’t anywhere near as good as the base unit.

    • Actually, I own both a standard and a Pro and I can say that buying the Pro was a big misstake. Almost all(there are some good) developers just add an upscaled version of their games for the pro that runs worse and makes the console sound like a jet engine. The standard model is the way to go.

    • So you think most PlayStation consoles sold are Pro? Look up some numbers and get back to us please.

  • Carnivius_Prime

Yeah i thought the Slim was the ‘budget’ version and the Pro was what you wanted people buying. I got my Pro almost 2 years ago now and I’ve been enjoying the extra boost in framerates in various games (i recently got a 4k tv but i still tend to prefer frame rate over higher resolution if i’m having to choose.. perhaps when running these same games on PS5 i won’t have to)

  • Great Vita lock screen with the logo close up! Thanks…

  • Headset Companion App

  • If this were a pro I’d have bought one.

  • Sony… I was looking forward to see what you were going to bring to the E3 party… Considering you were not attending. I was expecting you to be all over the place trying to take the wind out of everyone else… But it all just seems flat. Thanks for ruining my favorite time of the year.

    • Hey now you’ll get a 10 minute Days of Play in a month or so…

also there is that totally amazing sale right now with a whole load of 20% off deals…

also, erm, ok thats it but it’s totally better than an E3 show…
