Days Gone was the best-selling game on PlayStation Store in April

New releases Mortal Kombat 11, World War Z also make their chart debuts

Bend Studio’s post-apocalyptic adventure Days Gone roared ahead of the competition last month, making it the best-selling game on PlayStation Store in April.

But Days Gone wasn’t the only new entry in April’s charts: both NetherRealm Studio’s bone-crunching battler Mortal Kombat 11 and survival horror shooter World War Z also made strong debuts.

  • Good for them.

The game is much better than the mainstream reviews make it out to be.

    • Most negative reviews came the first days, alot of the people giving it crap give all Playstation games 0 and all Xbox games 10, kinda hilarious :) Even the critics dont seem to have actually finished the game or done any of the side missions. For me, the Nero Intel and the character collectibles, took the game from good to amazing. You gotta take part of the little side stuff to understand the characters better :)

    • I just finished the game today and *then* went to have a look at the reviews. Honestly, I was totally confused by the bad reviews (esp. from IGN and Gamespot) – seemed to me like they hadn’t really played it. Of course there were bugs, and sure Deacon is a bit of a character but I genuinely think this is one of the best open world games I have played. I *loved* HZD, but even that felt repetitive in a way that Days Gone has just managed to avoid. I’ve played a lot of open world games but I personally prefer linear, story based games like Last of Us – and this feels like it is the first game that’s managed to feel story based and linear but with all the benefits of open world. Seems pretty special to me.

“people giving it crap give all Playstation games 0 and all Xbox games 10, kinda hilarious :)”

No they don’t. Nobody does that. Not a single person.

    • @Alex79uk , alot of them sure did, thats why metacritic is such a crappy site. You can go and check for yourself buddy, nice try tho :)

    • Nobody with half a brain pays attention to the user reviews on Metacritic.

  • I’m glad Days Gone is selling well. It’s a great game and I’m sure when all the bugs are ironed out, it will be one of the best games of this generation. I hope there is Days Gone 2 in the works because the ending kinda promises a bigger and better things for Deek.

  • Days Gone is the best game in 2019 so far

  • Its a fairly good game and it shows in User Scores too with a solid 8.0 on Metacritic. Since Bend spent so long making this game on Unreal Engine 4 and, according to Digital Foundry ended up making the best looking and ambitious UE4 AAA game to date, its safe to say they should stick with it going forward. I hope we see a Syphon Filter Reboot in the near future and then a Days Gone sequel next. :)

  • Click on some of the user reviews and see for yourself how many of them have exactly 1 rating and 1 review or have only rated Sony exclusives, and gave each of them a 10. And that’s only the ones you can see because they wrote a review.

I’m not saying metascore is that much better. 80% of the scores that make up the total come from some obscure, unknown, ad-driven rating portals that pretty much only exist through Metacritic and give out 80s and 90s to any new AAA game.

I find the best reviews on metacritic to be in the ‘unscored’ section. Better to read actual criticque than blindly go by score anyway. Then find a hand full of reviewers whose opinion you value based on their previous ratings and recommendations.

Of course the other option is to buy every big release that has a lot of marketing and hype upon its most people did this April on the PS store.

  • Glad it’s selling well. It deserves to. It’s a really good game

  • I figured, it’s on the top selling charts in stores out here too. This once again reinforces how I feel about reviewers. You can take their opinions in mind but should never base yours entirely off of theirs… For all you know, they gave a bad review simply because they didn’t get paid for the opposite.

Despite seeing a lot of elements that have been done before I feel it actually has a healthy dose of quirkyness and incorporates those elements in a style that is personal to the game(series) and developer. I’ve been hooked on spending time in their world. Especially the beautiful weather effects and the level design are worth noting and I haven’t been bored for a second, which is far from always being the case in open world games. Sleeper hit imo, for sure.

    • And it’s a small thing but you use it so frequently it becomes important. I think this is the first game this generation to really use the touchpad well. It’s only for map and menus but you use it so frequently and in this rare case I think it actually feels better than just using your buttons for it because it feels quick and responsive (usually hate the useless touchpad).

  • GTA V still among top five best selling games that game is not slowing down at all,.

  • Congratulations to Bend Studio. The media seem to have really got this game wrong and failed to give it a chance.

I never cancelled my pre-ordered despite the reviews going from good to average to bad because I knew some of the issues would be fixed with patches and also because often the personal view of many reviewers differ from mine. I think if Bend was to release a demo more people who have doubt about this game would buy it.

  • IGN GameSpot Eurogamer and the other woke review sites had zero effect on this game. Gamers will decide what’ sells. I hope Sony pays attention to all of this and ignores those worthless sites in the future.

  • It’s always nice to see a single-player only game at the top of the chart. Hopefully publishers get it now that there are a lot of people who do still want to play single-player games.

  • Deserves every success. The time and effort Sony Bend put into this game shows through.12 hours in & I love Days Gone and hope it sells well to get a sequel ??

  • Great news for Days Gone. It’s a brilliant but flawed game.

BUT I’m still shocked GTA5 is still there. Surely everyone in the world must have a copy already? My granny doesn’t have a PS4 but she still have a copy?
