Full cross-platform play is now live in Rocket League on PS4

Car-powered soccer makes for one, big happy family

With special thanks to all of our friends and colleagues at PlayStation, we are thrilled to announce that starting RIGHT NOW, Rocket League has entered the PlayStation Cross-Play Beta program! Players on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam PC can now randomly matchmake with or against each other in all Online match types (i.e. Casual, Competitive, and Extra Modes).

To make sure that Cross-Platform play is enabled (it is by default), head to the “Main Menu,” select “Options” and then make sure the “Cross-Platform Play” box is checked in the “Gameplay” tab. And that’s all there is to it. You are now ready to play against gamers on other platforms across the world!

But what about cross-platform parties? In our first update this year (more information coming soon), we will release our cross-platform party system, which allows you to partner up with friends on any platform with the push of a few buttons.

Should you want to play with friends on other platforms before cross-platform parties release, however, you can! Just select “Play” from the “Main Menu,” then “Private Match,” followed by “Create” or “Join Private Match,” and you’re set from there.

Today’s announcement is an important one for us here at Psyonix, because we know how much our community has wanted FULL cross-platform support for quite some time. It’s because of YOU, our fans, and our generous partners on all systems and services that have made this possible in the first place. On behalf of the entire team, THANK YOU for your passion and persistence as we continue to do our best to make Rocket League the best experience we can.

We’ll see you out on the field!

  • Well done. Almost like you’ve been waiting 2 years to turn this on!

  • hopefully this will make your players happy, i don’t even own the game and this seems like a positive thing to me

  • Still one of my fave games of this generation. Got hooked on it again over christmas.

And more players is always good. Wasn’t exactly a ghost town when just PS4/PC players but the more the merrier so hello Switch and Xbox folk. With this kind of co-operation this game won’t die unlike many multiplayer games have over the years. Of course it helps that the game itself is excellent and a great game to jump into for a single 5 minute match or play for ages. Love it. :D

  • A game like Rocket League going fully cross play is such an exciting development for gaming. It’s a game that’s meant to be enjoyed with any one and now it can be, no matter your platform.

    Great job everyone involved!

  • Wow at last. now how about everything else? I play Destiny 2 on PC. my brother plays on PS4. How about letting us play together?

    • You play with 60 or more frames per second, he plays with 30 or less with input lag. Mouse/keyboard > Controller at FPS games, how about that?

    • PSN always supported Cross Play. Where is the Cross Play with the PC version of Call of Duty 4 from 2007 and every game since lol?

    • There will be pc players playing in 30fps. and pc players using a controller. how about that? The game is 99% pve anyway.

  • That’s great. Cross-Platform benefits everyone as online games gets longer lives.

It’s not like this game lacks players, because it’s were one of the most popular games on Switch in 2018 too.

  • Rocket league has had cross platform for ps4 and pc for over a year. Whenever you match with someone with no profile picture saying psn-net they’re on pc, thats why RLCS is pc and ps4 you host private games on psyonix servers which are cross platform. It’s a little annoying to see both people say “oh, playstation finally did this” and “fortnite did it first” when fortnite wasn’t out when it was added.

  • Hi Jeremy,

First off I’m a fan Rocket League and would like to thank Psyonix and Sony for working together to bring cross platform play to this system. Also been a supporter of yours sincerely the Beyond days!

Just a quick question regarding cross platform play for the competitive playlist. Are you worried about any advantages players on PC may have with higher frame rates/reduced input latency in this playlist when paired with high refresh rate monitors(120hz+)?

  • Great news! Now I only need an online queue for non-flat maps (perhaps with Rocket Labs included) and the game is ideal for me again.

  • I know this is the gen that’s given us things like red dead redemption w and the last guardian and various other games but this is still game of the generation. Been playing it since it came out almost everyday. Couple of matches here, couple of matches there.

  • Thanks. Just waiting for the cross platform parties now.

  • Now we just need a discord connection so our friends can see us play Rocket League on our PS4’s
