New update lets you download your favourite PS Now games onto your PS4

PS4 and PS2 titles on the streaming service can now be downloaded and played offline

We are excited to announce that, starting today, PlayStation Now users will be able to download games onto their PS4, in addition to instantly streaming them.

Hundreds of PS4 games including Bloodborne, God of War 3 Remastered, LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham, DiRT Rally and Farming Simulator 17 will be available to download, in addition to the line-up of classic PS2 games remastered for PS4.

PS Now

This feature will be gradually rolled out to users in September, so if you don’t see the feature on your PS Now app today, make sure to check back again soon.

Downloaded games will be available to enjoy in native resolution up to 4k and with 5.1 surround sound, plus they will support all user-purchased DLCs, micro transactions, add-ons, and PS4 Pro enhancements.

And remember, you do not need a PlayStation Plus subscription for online multiplayer on PS Now – which stays the same for both streaming and downloaded games.

Once you’ve downloaded a game it will be available to play offline.

Please note that you will need to connect your PS4 system to the internet once a week to verify your PS Now subscription, even if you’re only playing downloaded games.

For more information on this and further pieces like transferring saves between streamed and downloaded games, please see full FAQs.

PS Now has you covered whichever way you want to play.

Download a PS4 blockbuster and indulge your senses with stunning visuals and 5.1 surround sound.

  • I can’t use the service, cause I don’t have the money to subscribe

Also, I have horrible Internet speed ?

  • Now it would be a great idea to expand the service for more European countries.

  • Never forget you need other consoles to keep developers pushing the bar…. Microsoft introduced their game pass at the beginning of the year, which I think was a great idea, but don’t have an X-Box… and they don’t have many really good exclusive games. Nice to see Sony, adapting and continuing to stay ahead of the market…. This is a service I might now go back to. Would be better if it was included within the PLUS Account. Now all Sony needs to do is impressive me with a new Portable Playstation to work with the PS5.

    • Err, Xbox Game Pass is around since June 2017. And Sony has them beat fairly easy by simply not requiring PS Plus to play online games with your PS Now sub.

This ruins things on Xbox, such as Sea of Thieves requiring Xbox Live Gold on top of Game Pass even if you want to play on your own. They know exactly what they are doing with Game Pass since it launched i.e. trying to get their Gold subs back up to what they were before D Day on May 21st 2013, AKA the worse games console reveal in history. Or should I say, they thought they knew what they were doing just like they think they will get more Gold subs by requiring you to pay to play Free2Play games.

    • The fact you still cannot play PS3 games offline is a joke and needing to prove you’re a subscriber every few days is even a bigger joke

By the way the game you’re bashing have sold over 3 million so keep at it !! you’re one of them free loaders that wants everything for free PSNow is still mediocre service and not even worth a dollar a month

    • Yeah, but if you could download and play PS3 games on PS4, that would be backwards compatibility wouldn’t it. It’s still too expensive for me. A tenner a month, I would pay.

  • Now it’s got interesting

  • I wish we had access to PS Now here in Denmark. :/

But sadly, we often seem to be left out. :(

Yes, I am aware that there are different “workarounds”. But I’ll rather be able to use the service “legitimately”.

  • This is fantastic news! I was thinking the other day, were the graphics I was seeing whilst streaming the best I could possibly have on the ps pro, now with downloading the game, I know they will be the best. Thanks Sony, you are my only hope.

  • That’s much better for people in countries (or low incomes) that can’t stream at a high quality.

  • Oh, and as you ask, I’m playing Red Dead in preparation for the greatest game of all time!

  • That’s good news. I subscribed to Now for a year when it was £59.99 in the Days of Play sale. I think it’s really good for that price, although it doesn’t necessarily suit me because I don’t have a lot of time to game. The download option is great though, but unfortunately doesn’t cover PS3 games which is a bummer.

What I would say is, I really think they need to merge this with Plus and make the whole thing, say, £69.99 per year perhaps? The reason being, most of the PS4 games on NOW are just games that have already been given away on Plus already, so it kind of negates the need to have both.

    • Terrible idea, dont force things on people that dont want them. A discount for plus, sure.

    • Someone’s read that wrong

    • I highly doubt Sony would want to further enrage the fanbase.

    • What a great idea(A lil bit sarcastic). There are just still tons of countries not having Now. Maybe they should focus on expanding first.

What you suggest would not be a good idea until Now is out everywhere. See there are different perspectives to look at:

A combined service would be good for you who want to use it and have access to it.

It would be bad for people who have access to it but do not want it. Then they pay more money than before for a service they wont use.

It would be bad for people who do not have access. Or you may suggest that those should just stick with what they got? Then the people in above group would be angry as they are forced to the service.

You can suggest a bundled type. But not a merged. Sonys stand right now is not for ready for a merge of Plus and Now. There would be backlash no matter what. They can do discounted bundle deals, but they still need to preserve the current way. Meaning not merged.

  • And now I wait for the news I’ve been hoping for for months (years?), that Playstation Now will be integrated in some way into the Playstation Plus IGC.

As we are soon losing PS3 and Vita games from our monthly goodies, it makes sense to have access to the additional games via PS Now instead, or maybe a credits system that are redeemable against PS Now games.

Come on Playstation, give me what I’ve been asking for!

  • So I don’t own ps now never have never even tried it because I never seemed to use it because like ps3 games I have disc has well has ps plus I play on ps3 like ps2 ECT I have consoles for that.

But here’s what I don’t understand you bump up ps plus another ten pounds instead of 40 it’s 50 but yet we are losing out on games like ps vita and ps3 but why bump up the price if we are still losing games what’s ganna change because there must be a reason.

Also another thing that’s bothering me Sony rewards playstation points when will uk have this option because we should get it has well has other countries

    • Most other countries don’t even have PS Now, don’t expect points anytime soon.

    • As for PS+ the quality of games for PS4 has risen over the last few months. As for loosing Vita and PS3 games next year. We could end up getting more PS4 games added each month. Or maybe they are looking towards the PS5.

    • I understand some countries don’t have the full load out of the real experience of PlayStation but it would be nice to see other things and I understand the ps5 is another change lose a console to gain a console right I understand that but hey I can still wish for ps points Sony rewards

  • The quality of Playstation Plus has risen since the price increase. I haven’t paid £50 in my 8 years of subscribing either. Also ps3 and Vita are out, PS5 and VR could take that place.

    • Are you sure about that?? Wait, are there secret games I’ve been missing out on?!?

    • Are you really saying the quality of PS Plus has risen since the price increase? I do really wonder… oh, yeah. Maybe PS4 quality games slightly has risen in past couple months, but Vita and PS3 which is still supported… are getting literally garbage. However, don’t be angry at us who still play PS3 and Vita. Next year Sony’s support will be dropped and you will probably get better PS4 titles. Maybe. Maybe.

    • Not sure the PS4 games have even risen in quality.

Last month was an old PS3 port that’s constantly on sale, and a demo. Then a bland open world game and a junky, buggy and repetitive online only pile of rubbish the month before.

    • But ps3 has finished its 10 year cycle I feel the next step it will be disconnected from psn ready for ps5

  • When PS NOW will launch in SAUDI ARABIA ??

  • I think i’ll still hold out for being able to download titles i already own on my account than pay a sub for this as well as for ps+’s outrageous prices.

  • Any plans for PS Now in Australia? I have 100/40 Fibre and would love more streaming options

    • Can’t agree more. There is simply no reason to not have countries like ours as an option now. I didnt care when it was streaming since im not a fan of streaming in general and it made sense to not go to countries that couldn’t handle it as consistently but now it just feels discriminatory to not include us.

  • What wonderful news.

Just wish it was slightly more useful for majority of EU countries. Since this blog is called….

Would be great if you soon decided to expand to the rest of the regions. It can’t be because of internet speeds as a lot of countries are on par with countries currently having it.

  • That’s cool and all, but for those of us who aren’t interested in streaming at all Xbox Game Pass still offers a lot more and costs less.

  • Finland release when?

  • A brilliant service just got even better. Glad the rumours were true. Will we possibly get Psvr titles now download exists?

  • *PS Now is available in UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Ireland, Austria and Switzerland.

I have interesting idea Sony’s blog. You might probably love it like most of the people still visiting you and commenting in this thread. Maybe… just maybe… think about it… expand your services to other countries? I know, I know it’s very hard and each country has it’s own set of rules, but you know… it’s laughable to me the amount of countries in your list for how long this service is available. Well… it’s just me, standard user number 20.

P.S. Integrating PS Plus with Now would be great push and promotion of the whole thing…

  • Finally! Great news, I might subscribe at some point..

But… we should be able to download PS3 titles too…

  • Ok so.. I need to pay for my monthly house Internet connection, then I need to pay sonny monthly to let me have Internet access on playstation, and last but not least I’ll pay sonny monthly or weekly or whatever to have this service. Ain’t that bullhead? Am I correct people? And if so, why is there nobody complaining for this kind of treatment ? I have been a playstation gamer for 19 years. And this is disgusting.

    • Well you pay for Internet.

You pay for Plus for online MP, instant game collection, discounts, cloud storage and exclusive content.

You pay for Now for the ability to have instant access to over 500 titles from PS past and present.

It’s all optional and provides you with perks you may or may not want. I don’t understand why it’s disgusting unless you just want free stuff…

  • Why won’t it let me download the games? Anyone else have the same issue? And yes, i’m trying to download ps4 games from ps now.

  • I suppose we just need to wait it out. I am in the UK and haven’t got the option as of yet. Can’t wait for it though!

  • Hello everyone please help me out here! :(

I just signed up for a year of Playstation Now only to find out that I’m having three major issues. (at least the two selling points that got me to sign up)

    1) There is “Download game” option: I’m running system software 6.0 and for some reason, I still don’t see a ‘download’ button in the playstation now app. Why? I see so many YouTube Videos with people having the option to do so.

    2) The “add game to list” feature: When I highlight a game and press Square, an infinite loop appears on the game icon and it never does anything…

3)The “Your Games” tabe: whenever I click on it, it just ‘loads’ forever… i waited almost 30mins once and nothing happened.

Can anyone please help me out here. I signed in and out of my account. I restarted my ps4. I turned off & on my system. I checked to make sure i was using the lated update and yet nothing. There are so many great games and it would be awesome to just have the games i enjoy in one place.

    Thanks so much everyone… a…

  • I got the Ps Now service, but still not able to download anything.. When will be that possible ?

  • Allowing Downloads… still not available in Australia … *sighs*

  • only worth playing from ps4. playing on pc causes major lagging.

  • Still not avaliable in SWEDEN. COME ON PLAYSTATION.

  • Why Playstation Now is not working in Sweden? I have PS Now and then it said what country you live? I live in Sweden when I try to find it and there no Sweden there only Austria Germany Switzland and other europian country but no Sweden WHY!? Come on Sony Playstation company I want PS-NOW!

  • This is a step in the right direction, but Playstation Now is still laughable as a service. To begin with it’s far too expensive. 20 dollars a month is far too much for a “netflix” of games. Especially when the library isn’t exactly all recent, amazing, games. The price was especially uncalled for when you needed god tier internet to even be able to play games. Streaming Video Games was a bad idea to begin with. Most people still experience buffering issues with services like netflix or lagging in online matches for games today, but in a video game that’s being streamed online that means you’re constantly looking a terrible picture or getting kicked out and losing save data. Years later we can finally download games, but only ps4 and remasted ps2 because sony is fatally allergic to backwards compatibility. I’m guessing everyone at Sony realizes there will be no point for such an overpriced service if the ps4 was backwards compatible. It’s also just dumb that there is no permanent annual subscription price and instead only 1 month and 3 months. As is Playsation Plus is a better service at only 60 bucks a month due to the discounts, free games a month, and fact you need it to play online. How PS4 can be so terrible to its customers I don’t know. Really all you guys have right now are great exclusives. To make the service good lower the monthly price (maybe $15 or 10 if you really want to bring players in), add a yearly option, and make it so that ALL games on playstation now can be downloaded, otherwise the service will always just be a bad purchase. To actually compete with Xbox Game pass then make a playstation plus and playstation now Yearly subscription bundle that saves a really good amount of money.

  • Bought it dosn’t work very disappointed. “Content cannot be selected at this moment” on everything i choose
