The FIFA World Cup is coming to FIFA 18 with free update, out 29th May

Recreate history with authentic teams, stadiums, or rewrite it with the Custom FIFA World Cup tournament

Celebrate the World’s Game in EA Sports FIFA 18 with the addition of football’s biggest tournament: the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia. Available to FIFA 18 for PlayStation 4 owners through a free* content update on 29th May, the FIFA World Cup in FIFA 18 lets you experience the greatest tournament on earth through authentic gameplay, teams, stadiums, and more.

In addition to playing through the authentic tournament in a variety of modes, you’ll also get the unique chance to rewrite history by creating your own Custom FIFA World Cup Tournament. Determine the tournament draw the way you want to, using any national team in FIFA 18. Yes, even the United States, Italy, and the Netherlands.

Choose any of the 32 qualified nations and play through the authentic tournament structure, from the group stage to the final in Moscow. Or if you prefer to just play a match or two, jump into an offline match solo or with friends using official teams, players, kits, presentation elements, and authentic stadium atmospheres from the FIFA World Cup.

The most popular mode in FIFA 18, Ultimate Team, is also unveiling a fresh FIFA World Cup experience. New ICONS, a chemistry system, and player items with new ratings are just some of the ways that FIFA World Cup Ultimate Team provides unique FUT action.

You’ll find new ICONS from the tournament’s illustrious history, as well as up-to-date squads from every qualified nation with new ratings, so you’ll have everything you need to build your international dream squad.

FIFA World Cup Ultimate Team has versions of Single Player Draft, Online Draft, and Squad Building Challenges, as well as Single Player and Online Tournament modes, that let you play through realistic brackets with your squad.

Note that for every Standard or Premium pack you purchase in FIFA World Cup Ultimate Team, you will receive equivalent pack value in FUT 18.

Thanks to authentic teams, kits, badges, match balls, and the famous tournament trophy, the FIFA World Cup in FIFA 18 delivers a complete and official tournament experience. All 12 stadiums from Russia are included in the FIFA World Cup update.

Enjoy the tournament’s sights and sounds, thanks to authentic pitch environments, advertisements, dressings, national team banners, and high-resolution crowds.

The FIFA 18 World Cup content update will be available to FIFA 18 owners on the PlayStation 4 through a free* download on 29th May.

  • so they are just slapping the official logos onto a custom tourmament , and calling it a new mode. meh.

  • Well, to some this will be good news.

Looks like they skipped inclusion of World Cup qualifiers, Captain your country, and the option to pick any team from any confederation and take them all the way to the final. In my opinion, the World Cup deserves a full game on its own, not an update. Personally I’m disappointed.

Flashback to World Cup 2014 EA said: “When we made the decision we considered a number of factors but most importantly we wanted to create a great game within our development resources that could reach as many people as possible and the way to do that was make our best game yet on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. We gave our team the mandate of setting a laser focus on building the highest quality game for X360 and PS3 they could, and that’s exactly what they are doing.”

I thought they would be so keen on creating the best full game for the current gen come 2018.

But its all excuses at the end of the day.

  • “… FIFA World Cup Ultimate Team provides unique FUT action.”

EA is always good for a laugh.

  • Great so the World cup is being held in my country and bullcrap EA decides to do dlc instead of a full game for the biggest tournament in world sports great EA just great but no thanks. Usually a world cup game brings great hype new animations , new gameplay mechanics, new modes, 200+ national teams and all the excitement the tournament brings, but this is just a lazy way to continue manipulating gamers with the FUT crap. Greedy EA you never change

  • what’s going on in here with you guys!?!?!

EA for the first time does something good, instead of charging you again for new World Cup game, they included it in FlFA 18 for FREEEE.

Still everyone is complaining…. seriouly guys if publishers stop giving you free stuff and updates, it will be totally your fault

    • Hopefully if they stop adding microtransactions and including gambling in games aimed at little children it will be our fault too.

    • Yeah complaining about bad things (micro-transactions) worked for our favor and publishers are more careful with using it and it was even canceled in some cases such as (shadow of war)

it doesn’t mean we should keep complaining even when they do something good like free World Cup update.

I did expect EA to give us such big free update, and I definitely did not expect to see such “nonsense” reasons to complain about when I went down to the comment section

    • If you read the text, this is basically just a vehicle from which they can sell more microtransactions. The other complaint here is people saying how it doesn’t contain as much as the usual full games, which doesn’t really sound “nonsense”.

Also, most importantly, it’s not a “free” update, as even if you don’t buy any, it’s still being entirely paid for by vulnerable people gambling.

    • The FIFA World Cup has ALWAYS been free in recent FIFA games. From limited qualifying stages all the way to the final.

This is a bells and whistles update which obviously a lot of people will love…and I’m not looking at you while I say this .

The update will be lacking the usual immense depth (nonsense) of previous editions. Nonsense some of us love in a game based on the greatest sporting event in the world.

    • Pretty sure you will find that the previously EA would have issued a standalone game and charged £30-£40 for it. Personally, I’d rather have it as free DLC. Not sure how people are actually complaining about it!

  • I want the qualifiers!
