Everything you need to know to customise your console’s home screen

System software 4.50 introduced the possibility to personalise the wallpaper of your PS4 with the screenshots of your best gaming moments immortalised with the SHARE button on your Dualshock 4. Now with the 5.50 system update we improved the functionality based on your feedback, bringing new ways and options to customise your console and make it even more personal.

Here’s how it works.

8 steps to create custom wallpapers via USB

Creating custom wallpapers is now easier than ever thanks to the new option of system software 5.50 that let’s you import your own images via USB. In order to do that, follow these simple steps:

    1. Via PC or Mac, create a folder called “IMAGES” in the top directory of the USB storage device.
    2. Insert your favourite images in the folder. Remember to not exceed the resolutions of 1920×1080 on PS4 and 3840×2160 on PS4 Pro.
    3. Insert the USB in your console and go to [Settings] > [Themes] > [Select Theme] > [Custom] > [Select Image] > [USB Storage Device].

  • Can u put folders of images inside the “IMAGES” folder or do the wallpapers have to be added without their genre specific folder?

    • Hi Blacksunshine93,

No, you can’t put folders of images inside the “IMAGES” folder. If you do that, the system won’t read the images inside those folders.

  • We need Improvements such as, Create a Slideshow (people want more than just 1 Background from their Favourite Game(s)) !! I have a ton of good Screenshots, but can only use one at a time for my background =(

  • Can I set a moving wallpaper?

  • How about icons, sounds and animated backgrounds?
I don’t see any use for a static image.

  • This doesn’t work. I have a folder called IMAGES on the main section of my usb stick, but it doesn’t show up. The pictures I have in a folder called PICTURES DO show up….but you can’t use those as backgrounds. Any ideas ?

    • Boi, I can’t think of other solutions than this:
1.if you can repair your USB when you insert it in the laptop then that would do.
2.name the folder Photos and transfer them pics into this folder.
3.update the firmware to the latest version.
4.try to format the USB into Fat32, in case you dunno how, insert the USB in your Comp. and right click on the USB device, put Format, and select the Fat32, do not forget to press the box beside quick format.
5.do make sure the photos are really in the folder you’ve selected and not any other folder with the same name.
      good luck, Boi! <3

  • Can you save the custom theme you made?

  • Well, I uploaded a picture that is a perfect 1920×1080 pixels. The PS4 will recognize it in Media Player but when I go to upload it as a wallpaper it says I can’t do so. Can someone help me?
