Far Cry 5’s season pass detailed: fight across Vietnam, Mars, and play Far Cry 3 Classic Edition

Get updated PS4 version of FC3 plus three expansions for Ubisoft’s new open-world shooter

Far Cry 5 focuses on the battle to free Hope County, Montana, from the grip of The Project at Eden’s Gate cult, but its post-launch content will take PlayStation owners far beyond rural America. The Far Cry 5 Season Pass includes access to three new expansions.

In Dead Living Zombies, you’ll struggle to survive in a zombie-infested wasteland, facing off against hordes of the undead. In Hours of Darkness, you’ll trade gunfire with Vietcong fighters in Vietnam, while Lost on Mars takes you to the titular red planet to test your mettle against Martian arachnids.

The Season Pass also includes a return to a familiar location, specifically the Rook Islands. Far Cry 3 Classic Edition is an update to the classic open-world adventure game that will give players an opportunity to come face-to-face with Vaas, one of gaming’s most notorious villains, for the first time on PS4.

In fact, one of the team’s fondest memories of working on Far Cry 3 happened when Michael Mando, voice actor for Vaas, came to the studio dressed up in full Vaas gear and took pictures with everyone from the dev team for two hours.

During the development of the game, Dan Hay, creative director, had a running bet with everyone on the team that if the game got a certain amount of high review scores, then he’d get a tattoo. The team hit the goal, so he ended up getting his Far Cry 3 ink (we secretly hope it is a honey badger, but cannot confirm).

Far Cry 5 Season Pass holders will get to re-experience the Rook Islands early, before Far Cry 3 Classic Edition goes on sale as a standalone game.

Far Cry 5 launches on PS4 on 27th March. The standard, Deluxe, and Gold Editions are now available for preorder from the PlayStation Store, and the Gold Edition comes bundled with the Season Pass. There’ll be plenty of wild new territory to discover and blow to smithereens, so get ready to grab a co-op buddy (or just some local Montanan Guns for Hire) and go berserk.

  • Love dlcs packs for far cry 5 will be getting game but I got question will far cry 3 be on disc for PS4 sometime in year . Because like get disc vision thanks.

  • Well done ubisoft you have sold me on the season pass

  • Far Cry 3 got announced as a back compatible title on the XBOX one this week.

Hey Sony, I own FC3 on the PS3 digitally, will it also transfer over to the PS4? Or have I backed the wrong horse here?

    • You’d have to ask Ubi, not Sony. It’s their game, it’s their decision whether or not you get access to the PS4 version because you own the PS3 version. I’m guessing the answer is no.

    • But if the Far Cry 3 is a proper remastered version with high resolution and high frame-rate… i guess its a better deal that the backward compatable version, don’t you think?

    • Sure, but the new trailer put out doesn’t show any improvement or changes. If it was a remaster, they would have said so.

    • That’s weird because they’ve allowed Microsoft to do exactly that on a number of back compatible Ubi games for free. This is obviously a Sony issue. Why shouldn’t we ask for parity?

    • PS3 games are not compatible with PS4 due to system architecture reasons, so playing an existing digital PS3 title isn’t how it works.

Which is why they have had to market it as a new game as it had to be ported for a new system.

    • You’ve already got parity. The Xbox One version of FC5 also comes with a remade version of FC3. They’re not getting anything ‘free’ that we aren’t.

The FC3 MS released was the Xbox 360 version; you can play it on XBO, but it’s still the 360 version. They are still releasing an actual ‘new’ Xbox One version with FC5, and they’re not giving it away for free – you still need to buy the FC5 Season Pass or the stand-alone game when it’s released.

Ubi haven’t ‘allowed’ Microsoft to do anything. Microsoft have created a software emulator for XBO which will run 360 games which people have already bought. The PS4 doesn’t have that feature, and due to technical reasons is never likely to, so it is literally not possible for you to play a PS3 game on PS4.

If Ubi were to give away the PS4 FC3 Classic to people who bought the digital PS3 version, they’d have to do the same for those on XBO who bought the 360 version, and that in turn would hit sales of the stand-alone versions and (possibly) the season pass as well. So as I said, it’s Ubi’s decision, not Sony’s (or Microsoft’s)… and while it’s not impossible, it’s highly unlikely.

    • Fan boy fan boy, whatcha gonna do? Whatcha gonna do when they talk utter sh……….

    • Go buy an Xbox and enjoy FarCry 3 and Halo. You’ll have little else to play.

    • For how many more years you think people will need to be told this constantly?

    • And farcry 3 classic had multiplayer removed

  • Now THIS is a season pass I agree to. Well done

  • Just pre-ordered the Gold Edition.

  • Definitely looks like the best one since 3. Primal was pretty disappointing imo. Might pick up the season pass on a sale if I enjoy this one. Don’t even know I’ll get the game on release since it releases in the same week as Ni No Kuni 2 and that gets priority.

I think the series really needs a bit of a makeover. What really bugs me is how it technically hasn’t really evolved since 3. Specifically the fact that you can’t see your underbody and legs is really out of date for a shooter nowadays imo (even some indies like Edith Finch can pull it off). Especially considering it’s an open world game, I want to feel more of a connection to my character, and not have it feel like a floating entity. It could also favor from some better character development as I’ve never felt the protagonist to be fleshed out or even remotely interesting for that matter.

    • Yeah Ni No Kuni 2 gets priority for me also. Bored of zombies in fps’s, I sorta wanted a FC5 Blood Dragon type dlc just for [DELETED]’n’giggles. Guess Vietnam will probably be a prequel to one of 5’s characters, not sure how they’ll work in a Mars dlc though.

  • Everyone Add Me Now On GTA $$$

  • …why would a Far Cry 3 tattoo involve honey badgers in any way? They weren’t in the series until FC4. Maybe an angry cassowary instead?

  • I pre-ordered the physical Gold edition for £49.99

No way in hell i’m paying a pathetic £70 for a digital equivalent.

  • They better not remaster farcry 2 that game was bad

  • But will there be loot boxes?
