Beatshapers details how it adapted its sci-fi puzzler for next week’s PS VR release
Hello there! This is Alexey Menshikov, CEO of Beatshapers and, yes, it’s been quite a while since our previous PlayStation release. We are super excited that for our debut PlayStation VR release (and 25th game release) we are bringing back StarDrone.
It was a launch title for the PlayStation Move Motion controller and PlayStation Vita, and now it’s in virtual reality.
For those of you not familiar with StarDrone: it is a furious action-puzzler that has you piloting an always-in-motion spaceship through diverse cosmic environments. Your goal? Blast through 60 levels’ worth of missions. These can range from just getting to the end of the level, destroying all enemies, to collecting puzzle pieces.
We brought StarDrone to VR because we believe it has a benefit: the head camera control allows players to better see what’s coming on the horizon, meaning fewer mistakes. Plus, it helps the player take aim at the game’s scoreboards as well as perfecting their cool, space-rollercoaster-like flight.
Each level starts by aiming and shooting yourself into the outer space from a cannon. Your spaceship is always in motion from this point on, and it’s your job to attach to nearby gravity beacons to navigate your flight path.
While tethered to a beacon, you can look around and attempt to circle the beacon until you release and slingshot yourself further. This core mechanic allowed us to bring together pinball-like motion, collect-athons and exploration in one game is unlike anything else out there.
The game controls are very intuitive. Just press any button on your Dualshock 4 when near desired beacon to capture it, and then release; physics does the rest. Of course we are fully support PS Move controller so you can point to the beacon you want pin to.
Stardrone VR is released on PlayStation Store on 24th January. You can get more information on http://www.beatshapers.com/stardrone and make sure to follow us on Twitter @beatshapers and Facebook Page. We have a number of PS VR games coming this year…
