5 big new PlayStation Store releases you need to check out this week

Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds, NFS Payback, Sonic Forces and more...

A week of epic adventure and high octane thrills awaits on PlayStation Store, from snow-encrusted mountains to the icy cold of the deep blue sea. Horizon Zero Dawn’s Aloy returns in the massive expansion The Frozen Wilds, while EA is looking for Payback in its latest Need for Speed sequel. Elsewhere Sonic is joined by a cast of your making, and you can oversea a battlefield of laser-firing fish in Ace of Seafood.

What a week, and that’s only our choice picks. As usual, you can get the full list of this week’s releases below.

1. Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds

Aloy’s adventure continues as the machine hunter heads north to an all-new, snow-covered region known as the Cut. Expect even your finely-honed skills to be tested as you encounter new mysteries and cross paths with one of Horizon Zero Dawn’s most dangerous machines, the Scorcher.

2. Need For Speed: Payback

Ghost Games roars back onto the open road with its latest entry into the Need for Speed series. Explore Fortune Valley at breakneck speed as you battle cops and criminals in an event and spectacle heavy single player campaign, and challenge your friends’ best scores on the road – and off it.

3. Sonic Forces

Sonic Team takes the blue hedgehog through a new supersonic journey across 2D and 3D dimensions. But this time, alongside playing as the Modern and Classic versions of Sonic, you can join the fight against Eggman by creating your own character.

  • Why you should play it: For Sonic fans, this is the first time you’ll be able to design a custom character that’ll join Sonic in his fight against evil. Let your imagination run wild!
  • Releases: 7th November

4. League of War: VR Arena

Wage war across a holographic board as chess-like strategy meets the futuristic battlefield. Pick your chosen unit to deploy, then pick it up and place it on the board to add another attacking force to your army as you try to take out your opponent’s base.

5. Ace of Seafood

There are many experiences to savor on this list. But only one will allow you to control laser-firing aquatic life that battle it out amidst plastic warships. You’ll likely not play a game quite like Ace of Seafood this year. Or ever.

  • Where’s Hand of Fate 2?

  • Hilarious. Nioh Complete Edition is $15 cheaper than Nioh itself.

  • I wonder what the reasons are when selecting the next Neo Geo game? I wanna know how the likes of Street Hoop come before Shock Troopers, Sengoku 3, Waku Waku 7 and such… Not saying Street Hoop is a bad game, but it’s surely not gonna be the most wanted above those titles?

    • Probably licencing? Certain games are probably easier to licence than others, and them being, erm, less desirable probably makes it easier.

Or of course it could be they have less porting issues.

  • Can’t believe My Name Is Mayo actually got released in the UK. It’s one of those games that is not actually a game. It just exists to earn easy trophies. Like you can get the platinum trophy in minutes if your quick enough. It simply involves you to tap X like 10,000 times.

    • As a Kinda Funny Fan and trophy whore, I am actually excited/curious for this. All we need now is for Taco Master to finally make it across the Alantic. Shocked, thought after 6 months out in the US it would never come out in EU.

    • No release in Australia though! Damn I want dat easy plat.

  • Hitman being a big pile of crap would seem to exclude it being a “game of the year”. But then we have to remember how easy it is to win those awards and the lack of integrity of those giving them..

    • You know every game is goty nowadays… It is that easy to become a goty

    • Huuuuh, NO. This Hitman is a return to form for the series. You must be thinking of Absolution, it’s the only explanation xD.

But seriously, the new Hitman is great.

    • Even Absolution had better AI and less bugs…and a better sense of humor…and wasn’t episodic.

But, even if you somehow like that trainwreck of a game, for it to be “game of the year” it would have to be the best game that year. The year that Uncharted 4, Doom, Dark Souls 3, Overwatch, Dishonored 2, and a bunch of other titles came out.

    • @miseryprincess Can you give me some information on who is buyable? Is it giant bomb?

    • Basically any of the reviewers are shades of the same as they have the same problem.

They are all heavily reliant on publishers for basically everything, from ads, to early review copies, news, interviews, etc and it’s pretty well documented that it’s common to receive incentives (holidays/stuff/awards) to gain individuals favor. A classic example being how a certain publisher of a certain FPS series flies the reviewers out to stay in expensive hotels with everything paid for to review the game.

  • Guardians of the Galaxy Episode 5 is tomorrow too, right?

  • gotta love how publishers can just declare their game the game of the year . @hitman goty edition

    • It apparently got Giant Bomb’s game of the year. Which is a comedy site, so was probably a joke the makers took seriously.

They should have to at least win a big game show or something.

    • hehe..’giant bomb award’ and they make an edition celebrating it…joke indeed! #CantMakeThatShtUp

  • Any chance of the Sony Rewards program coming to Europe?

  • Where’s ACA NEOGEO MUTATION NATION? It was supposed to come out on Nov 3 and i can’t find any info.

    • & KOF 97 you can always download the US version of both games its region free from the US store while these dick heads at SCEE sort it out just create a US account its easy enough to do

    • its not going to happen again this week my friend with Street-hoops https://www.famitsu.com/news/201711/08145684.html

    • Mmmmm since my lasts comments have been deleted & i stand correct over Street-hoops but why for a second week Mutation Nation & King of the fighters 97 after Sony Europe Advertised its Release & still have failed to provide a reason to the community as to why this has happend the two titles concerned have failed to appear but have decide to release another title in the form of street hoops i am confused

  • Doesn’t game of the year edition just mean that it’s got all the dlc etc? Just another way of saying definitive edition or complete edition?

    • It doesn’t mean that really, there’s been games without any DLCs with Game of the Year versions, and “Game of the Year” versions without all the DLC.

It means is it got basically anyone’s “game of the year” or “best game of” award that year from a bunch of people known to be a bit, erm, buyable. So basically any game can get it.

  • Decided to give The Frozen Wilds a miss because I played the base game for almost 200 hours during October and it burned me out a bit. I also found the 10% off for PS+ EU users compared to 25% off for PS+ NA users irritating. It’s almost like they’re trying to tell us our money is worth less than theirs. Or maybe they just value European PS+ subscribers less. Who knows.

  • What I hate about most AAA games nowadays is that they expect you to pay between £50 – £70 for the game and then charge you £25 for a season pass . I was so disappointed when I bought Friday the 13th game on digital for £32, I’ve only played it a few times and it’s so buggy that I haven’t played it since and now they are saying that I’ve gotoo pay for the single player content. What a joke. I hope the game gets better but I’m still [DELETED] that they’ve gone back on their word.

  • Somehow I just can’t believe that the Blog Team chose Ace of Seafood instead of Wuppo. There is no way I’m going to check out that generic shooter about killing all the fish in the sea.

Still have to play Horizon Zero Dawn. The DLC will have to wait.

  • Why no mayo in Australia?? Surely mayonnaise of all things can’t be offensive enough to be banned?

Tempted by ace of seafood just because that trailer looks absolutely insane lol

    • Damn that sucks did not see that maybe you will have to wait another year to release, i imagine its because a different rating board and costs more or something stupid like that, the amount of time it took to hit eu was silly. Kinda

  • Again, no Rock Band Rivals DLC, no Rocksmith DLC, and what about the Shadow Episode for Sonic Forces… wasn’t that supposed to be downloadable from the Store on release day (according to the leaflet in the game)???

  • Look like another lie from Sony Europe Street hoops is down as a Switch X-box one title with nothing for PS4 in the way of new ACA neo geo titles (unless they decide to release the last 2 from the previous week) I think that i am going to dump Sony for X-BOX ONE there Store is Global plus they have a good range of 360 games that you play either by physical disc of DLC at no extra cost SHAME ON YOU SONY Europe not even an Apology for the big cock up

  • Hand of Fate 2 is now available on the EU PS Store, for anyone wondering.
