Non-violent fantasy adventure Oure announced for PS4 – and it’s out today

The latest game from the Shadow of the Beast team debuts at Paris Game Show

Hi there PlayStation fans. We at Heavy Spectrum are so proud to have been able to reveal our deeply personal game Oure to you all in Paris. The game aims to give you a unique dream-like experience of freedom as you fly through the clouds as a dragon in an adventure about hope, discovery and independence.

You play the role of a child pushed alone into a strange world by their reluctant parents. Once in that world the child discovers they can transform into a dragon that draws power from the clouds to soar through the skies.

Uncovering the origin of their powers and their parents’ hopes is part of a journey that explores themes and experiences all of us go through as we grow up, and those of parents as they let their children go into the world without them.

The game is non-violent and intended to be a contemplative experience with moments of drama and mental challenge, hopefully creating something unique for players who want a break away from blockbuster game experiences.

It has many hidden items, artefacts and upgrades to find; and the dialogue, world and even the trophies are designed to be full of metaphors and meanings that should reward players who wish to reflect on the deeper messages we’ve placed into the world.

Speaking as myself, more than anything I have ever done, this is a game that has been built from my heart with no commercial bias. Self-publishing the game has allowed us to ensure the game will come out with the pureness and essence that we desired, and whilst we know the game is not perfect it is something that contains the message of hope that we wanted to pass on to our own children.

We think this rawness has created a unique experience in the feel of the game and we hope that if you elect to play Oure that it touches your heart a little.

If it does then it has all been worthwhile.

The game is available today on PlayStation Store and has written language support for English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Japanese. We have also put together a dynamic theme, soundtrack and avatars on the store so please give them a look if you’d like to support us further.

Thank you for your time,

  • It’s out in the US store, but not in the UK or any other EU store?

You make the announcement in Paris, and yet the EU does not get the game at the same time as the US? @PlaystationEU on twitter said: “We’re expecting it to appear later this evening.” Which pretty much means tomorrow. Or this week. Maybe. I mean, when the trailer said “Today”, there was another insert that said “this week”.

Practically the only good announcement with actual meaning for the foreseeable future, and still Sony cannot manage to get it together.

    Kinda sad…

  • Had a little tear in my eye reading this post *sniff*

I for one can’t wait to play this with my kid :)

  • Too expensive for what is essentially another clone of Journey, Abzu, Cloud, Flower…

It certainly looks much better than your appalling previous effort (Shadow of the Beast was a terrible remake). But I’ll let other players/reviewers bite the bullet first and cough up the dough before giving it a try.

Also, remember people: this is not a PS4 exclusive, it will be released on Steam in two weeks.

    • crazy, I really enjoyed Shadow of the Beast. Far more than the original games therefore it was a great remake (and far more fun than the other games you mention… god I cannot see the frickin’ point of Journey, boring, tedious game)

  • So, from the first ten minutes, I really like it. Controls are a bit iffy at first, and the camera seems to have a problem with fast climbing (or is just too close), but it looks beautiful and plays nice. Lots of atmosphere.

Sadly, I cannot find an option to turn off the pretty big subtitles… :/

Also, as of right now, 23:11 CET, it’s not on the UK web-store, neither through search or the link provided on twitter. The links gives you an undefined page (unable to find…) and search returns nothing. I only found it through the PS4’s store by searching (it’s also not in the Paris Games Week category).

  • DUnno about this but I frickin’ loved your Shadow of the Beast. One of my fave remakes ever.
