The closed beta for team-based shooter Paladins kicks off today

A world of knights with flamethrowers and dragons with rocket launchers awaits

We’re happy to announce that Paladins Closed Beta starts today… and that you could earn a FREE trip to Spain!

TL;DR:

  • Paladins Closed Beta is finally here!
  • You get instant access to Paladins (plus all the Champions we ever release, forever) when you buy the Founder’s Pack – 10% off the normal price!
  • Paladins console eSports starts now. And we’re sending the two best PS4 teams to Spain to participate in DreamHack Valencia 2017.

What is Paladins?

Never heard of Paladins? It’s one of the hottest new shooters on PC, with more than seven million players. Hundreds of thousands of people play Paladins every single day, consistently placing it among the top 10 games on Steam.

Paladins is a fantasy team-based shooter. It’s a world of knights with flamethrowers, dragons with rocket launchers, and furry alchemists who turn enemies into chickens. As you can probably tell, we don’t take ourselves quite as seriously as the other guys.

But Paladins is a game that has a lot more depth and customization than other hero shooters. It’s the only game where you can play how you want to play.

Unique to Paladins, you can build your own loadout of cards to amplify and augment each Champion’s core set of abilities, so he or she becomes exactly the Champion that you want to play. And your Champion looks exactly how you want him or her to look, thanks to our multi-part skin system.

How can I play?

Easy: Starting today, you can buy the Paladins Founder’s Pack on the PlayStation Store!

As a welcome gift to new players dying to get into the Realm, you can get the Founder’s Pack at a discount through March 28th… and PlayStation Plus members will get an even better discount!

The Founder’s Pack doesn’t just give you Closed Beta access. It also includes:

  • Every Champion we ever release. Ever. Forever.
  • A Beta-exclusive Skin Collection and Mount.
  • 10 Radiant Chests, each containing Cards, Skins, and more.
  • 72,000 Essence to craft the cards you want.
  • A Paladins-themed skin for Ares in Smite on PS4.

One big note: The Founder’s Pack only gets better as more Champions are released… And we release Champions all the time. We’re on track to release at least 15 new Champions this year!

Don’t have money to spare at the moment? Don’t worry – like all Hi-Rez Studios games, Paladins will be free-to-play for everyone when it is released into Open Beta at a future date. In the meantime, you can sign up for a Beta code here.

Paladins Esports? Free Trip to Spain?

Since we first announced Paladins was coming to PlayStation 4, we’ve heard the same question over and over: “Can I play competitive Paladins on PS4?”

Today, we’re happy to reveal our answer is a resounding YES: You and your friends could win the Paladins Console Wars at DreamHack Valencia, 13th – 16th July in Valencia, Spain!

Two PlayStation 4 teams will qualify for the tournament: The best team in North America, and the best team in Europe. Those two teams will face off for the title of best PS4 Paladins team, and then things get really interesting.

The victorious PS4 team will square off against the best team on that other console. And finally the age old question will be answered: Does blue or green reign supreme?

So to sum it all up:

  • Buy the Founder’s Pack and start playing Paladins today.
  • Get really good.
  • Win a free trip to Spain and a share of the prize money.

That just about wraps it up. We’ve just got one question left: Are you ready to defend the Realm, Champion?

  • So, I have to pay YOU, to be YOUR beta tester, for a F2P game? Give me a minute … NO!

    • Devs these days have a weird understanding of betas. Instead of selecting candidates for an closed beta or inviting people into open betas to polish their games, they want us to pay for early access. This may work for crowdfunded titles, but doing this for these F2P games just exploits users who want to play early. Well, in the end it’s not my money they’ll get…

    • Why not just wait till it comes out and try the F2P? Instead of being a bunch of [DELETED] about their way of funding this project, let the others who find interest in it enjoy it.
And besides it’s 10 bucks for a game that might be tons of fun. To me with all the unlocks, cosmetics and extra that you get I consider it rather considerable.

    • I don’t understand why guys even bother being [DELETED] about it. The negativity doesn’t go anywhere. You pay for early access to get a bunch of characters, cosmetic extras and to try them out on your characters you play with. What’s wrong with that to be honest? And to be fair 10 bucks is not a lot to ask for from all of those things that you get. And I think that they want people to be engaged in actually participating in making a change or having a voice towards change in their development of the game. They want their feedback to have an impact, whereas your doesn’t give more than ignorance towards the developers.

    • They could easily call this paid early access. But this is NOT how betas should work. Beta tests are part of development and QA, normally people get paid for those jobs. This is not against against the devs, it’s about the marketing of this game. Just write clearly that you get early access, some exclusive stuff and some stuff you could buy later. Paid “closed beta” is just crap. I like fair F2P system, I like crowdfunding, I sometimes support devs by helping them with their beta tests – but I’ll not pay for such beta. And I think asking for that alone is just wrong.

    • @bioxz. Hey, you got my vote. I completely agree with you there. How they present it and what they call it is incorrect. However, so many more have done the exact same thing as these, and it seems to be profitable enough. Since it doesn’t stop them or sony from doing this then who will?

When the full game comes out there will probably be the same effect as on any F2P game, loot boxes and so on.

  • Don’t state the obvious

    They’ll just remove your comments

    • I know, but I had to, because it’s so ridiculous nowadays to pay for unfinished games especially for free to play games where testing costs money, but when they actually launch they’ll be free to play.

    • It’s an unfinished game since it’s a beta, which is sort of stating the obvious.
But why not bash everything that comes up as a suggestion or idea and hate it since nothing seems to be satisfying enough anymore. It’s ridiculous how much developers have to take from people nowdays. Just quite down already and let them do their thing.

  • cheap overwatch knock off, keep it im good with overwatch thankyou :)

    • overwatch ismost likely going to be the best shooter people cant make a game any better than overwatch BTW i play overwatch add me if you want to play.

  • i have both (overwatch and paladins) for pc, and i prefer paladins because its faster and feels smoother.

    • then you sir are a noob lol, joking ,each to their own, i prefer overwatch, better heroes more balanced too :) just a better made product :) and they dont ask for people to pay for extra heroes :)

  • i think we shouldn’t pay because the people that want us to play there game want are feedback on the game so if they want are feedback just let us play the game for free.
