Here They Lie gets PS4 standard edition, PS4 Pro support on 21st February

You can now enjoy the mind-bending horror game without PS VR, while title also gets 4K and HDR support

Hello, Cory Davis here! I’ve exhumed a treasure chest full of Here They Lie news and updates from the void.

While many of you have been diving into the nightmarish rabbit-hole that is Here They Lie on PlayStation VR, we’ve continued forging ahead on future updates and additions to improve the experience. I’m excited to let you know about the goodies that are about to roll out for the PS VR version and… wait for it… the PS4 and PS4 Pro versions of Here They Lie!

That’s right, Here They Lie will be updated on 21st February to be playable without a PS VR headset — the Standard version. If you already own Here They Lie for PS VR, you’ll automatically receive this update through a downloadable patch. Anyone purchasing Here They Lie after 21st February will get both versions of the game.

Here They Lie is also getting an insanely juicy PS4 Pro patch on the same day! That means 4K (users need a 4K display device to view in 4K) / HDR support for the Standard version of the game, and an all-around higher quality render-mode for PS4 Pro on PS VR. Better shadows, post-processing effects, dynamic flashlight shadows, and ambient occlusion!

Here They Lie

We’ve been listening to your feedback on our website, social media, and in our communal dreams. Many of you had really great requests for Here They Lie, and we’ve implemented as many of them as we could. New additions include a controller configuration screen, the highly requested Chapter Select screen, subtitles (only for the Standard version), and a slew of visual upgrades — like improved anti-aliasing and lighting across the board.

We remember that all of you PS VR Rangers were our first love, and we have not forgotten you! We’ve improved head tracking globally for a smoother, more accurate, and more immersive experience. Additionally, we’ve reworked the overall texture streaming to improve the sharpness of the visuals throughout the world. Some additional tutorial screens have been added to help you smoothly immerse yourself in VR, and you’ll be able to switch between the VR and Standard (non VR) version of Here They Lie seamlessly.

Here They Lie

That’s a lot of upgrades — we’ve been working our asses off! I can’t wait for you to get your hands on all of these updates to Here They Lie on 21st February for PS4, PS4 Pro, and PS VR!

  • YEEEAAAHHH :) .Really looking forward to it. Thank you very much :) .

  • See, this is a problem. I was very much looking forward to this game but I totally missed that it had been release in all the other releases. Well There is a weekend coming and I’m playing it then :)

  • awesome news.
really like the look of this, but was gutted that it was be only.
think i might just have to purchase on 21st.

  • Here They Lie was a bit of a disappointment for me. I liked the surrealistic horror and its ability to scare in VR but I hated the controls. I prefer the full range of options like in Robinson and Windlands. I like to be able to walk straightforward and look right to admire the locations.

Being forced to pie-chart with head-controlled turning or fluent rotation with walking straight always in the faced direction was a major bother for me and caused major nausea – despite the fact that I could play other walking/running VR games for hours without any risks.

And I hope fluent turning won’t limit the screen visibility to a large dot anymore. If in Robinson and RIGS it was possible (fullscreen fluent rotation), it can be done anywhere. I hope the new patch will make HTL a better VR experience in those aspects I mentioned. Definitely going to redownload.

  • Awesome! I’ve played through the first chapter and liked it, but now I’ll wait a little for a patch. And, possibly, for my PS4 Pro )

  • Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, there’s the news I’ve been waiting for!
Many thanks. That’s a purchase from me.

  • “(users need a 4K display device to view in 4K)”

Does this mean 1080p users are locked out of downsampling?

  • Less horror games please :)

  • Is the chance to get motion sickness reduced with the patch?
I have no issue with playing RE7 for 1,5 hour in a row, but I had to be very careful when playing the Here They Lie demo.

  • The first PS VR game that gets a update to play it without PS VR. Is this because the game sold bad? I wonder if more PS VR games are doing this.
