New update also includes Hot Wheels premium DLC cars and additional improvements

Thanks to our development friends at Panic Button, Rocket League will soon officially support the PlayStation 4 Pro!

On 21st February, we will release a new update that allows Rocket League to run at both 1080p (on a standard PS4) and 4K (on PS4 Pro) at 60 frames per second in all arenas for single and two-player split-screen modes. Three and four-player split-screen modes will offer 60 frames per second in most arenas at the same resolutions.

In addition to the new visual optimisations we’re making, our next update will also bring…

  • Hot Wheels premium DLC cars, Twin Mill III and Bone Shaker (sold separately).
  • Additional free Hot Wheels-themed post-match item drops, including both Toppers and Antennas.
  • A new fan-voted “Player’s Choice” Crate filled with some of the community’s favorite items.
  • PS4-specific technical improvements.
  • Multiple performance optimisations and bug fixes.

This is just the first of many planned content updates for Rocket League in 2017, so be sure to keep an eye out for even more from Psyonix HQ as the year moves on.

See you soon!

  • Yaaaaaas, thank you :D

  • Does this include supersampling for 1080p users?

    • Great question! There is no supersampling support at this time.

    • Any particular reason why it doesn’t?

    • Does it at least have improved IQ if there is no supersampling?

    • Well, that’s rather disappointing. Is it in the works, then?

    • Glad to hear about the improved performance overal, though!

    • @Devin Connors

Why? This is just another game to add to the list of games that arbitrarily lock 1080p users out of downsampling/supersampling for no reason at all.

      AC: Ezio Collection
      The Last of Us
      The Last Guardian
      Dishonored 2
      Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance
      Rocket League

and likely more. Why? Why are you devs locking 1080p users out of these benefits? Why won’t Sony comment on this either?

One would almost think there’s an agenda against 1080p users to push them to buy 4K TVs.

    • Oh, not you, too! 1080p users getting the shaft again. :(

  • This could of been a side game in a real game like rock and roll racing but with projectile in stead of a ball! Or a remake of destruction derby. This games not for me, would love to see a remake of rock and roll racing with this type of attribute!

    • ‘a side game in a real game’? Don’t insult this excellent highly enjoyable game please. It’s been very successful with millions of gamers cos it IS a real game that is easy to pick up and get into and play with friends. Making it simply a mode in a ‘real’ game (likely costing far more and putting off people who would just want to play this ‘mode’) would have decreased it’s exposure greatly.

    • How can variation of choice in a game decrease exposure, if you no what you like playing! It’s called online multiplayer mode.

    • So you think you’d have millions of people playing a football game with cars if it had been tucked away as a bonus multiplayer mode in some more expensive ‘real’ game where the main mode would likely have more limited appeal in general? Rocket League is a game that is great as it is and much needed in this age. It’s also easily obtainable (most of us got it for free with PS Plus on release) so that means many, many PS4 owners already own it and it’s been very affordable for new PS4 owners too. The post-PS-Plus sales of the game have been fantastic and it still tops the PSN charts often. Point is Rocket League IS a REAL game and one in a much ‘purer’ sense than many in this age of gaming. Easy to learn, hard to master, very social in offline/online multiplayer and crossplay with PC gamers, no bloaty time-wasting story to drag it down. Just get in there, play, have fun, beat your friends, play for minutes or play for hours. These reasons and more are why it has been the huge success it is. Clearly it was done right.

    • This is the most confusing thing I’ve read this month. Are you a game designer, or marketing strategist?

  • Any chance we’ll ever see the option to create a playlist – arenas, modes, mutators – for private online matches? Cycling through manually almost always results in someone getting kicked; rocket lab arenas face serious lag, customising mutators for each match is a bother.

  • That’s some great news! I will revisit the game after the patch, aliasing was annoying.

  • Best freaking thing since sliced bread!!!

  • Can you be more specific? At which resolution is it running on PS4 pro? Why is there no supersampling for 1080p users? What resolution is it running on standart PS4? Did you add any antialiasing at least on pro for 1080p users. Will there by any noticable image quality improvements for pro users in 1080p? Please be more specific.

  • Is it Checkerboard 4K or native 4K ?????????????????????

  • I hope there is plan for photo mode with filters for 4.5 FW upgrade, so we can make a beauuuuuuuutiful wallpapers!

  • and GJ! for 60fps for standart/classic/beloved PS4 (what took you so long? :) )

  • Wow about time. Switching around from PS4 to PC all the time got me triggered, at the triple-churned butter that is PC frame-rate.

  • You fixed it so it doesn’t heat up ps4 consoles to breaking point? Thought not.
