Santa Monica Studio talks us through the 10-minute gameplay demo

Last week, you got your first look at Santa Monica Studio‘s bold new take on its long-running God of War series. Given the upcoming game’s new direction, the incredible 10 minute-long gameplay sequence that debuted at the PlayStation E3 2016 Press Conference might have been a lot to take in. Duly, we sat down with Combat Designer Mihir Sheth and Gameplay Engineering Lead Jeet Shroff and had them talk us through the action. Take a look…

  • In a way the complete overhaul seems like a good way to get a new audience invested in the series. Even if there are those who aren’t happy with the changes, like me, who liked the traditional GoW better, they’re still going to get this regardless.. So business-wise I can see it being a viable choice, if somewhat risky.
On the other hand, I hope this doesn’t become a new fad to counteract the ageing (milking?) of a series, that it becomes more popular to just start over with some of the elements in a complete overhaul, than to carefully add meaningful things to a traditional sequel without making it seem like ‘more of the same’..

  • Now we have quit the eu i think this website should be called uk blog

    • EU –> Europe

You havent quitted being a part of Europe :|

    • CoolRichy007 you didn’t vote did you? You clearly don’t know the difference between Europe and the European Union.

    • Luckily, it has nothing to do with the European Union, but with the European territory in the video game industry, so no, this is and will remain the EU PS Blog. :)

    • Well im sorry i didnt know so thx 4 putting me straght mr link1983 :)

  • I’ll be honest – I don’t like the new direction so far. The game doesn’t seem to be a pure hack and slash game, but rather something inspired by the Last of Us. The “intimate perspective” looks to be limiting the field of view, which is very unlike what we expect from God of War. I really hope the closeness of the camera is something that is amended in the final game.
