Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power is out today on PS4

Check out the handsome launch trailer for the puzzle/platformer sequel

Hey everyone! Kai from Frozenbyte here with some great news! We’ve managed to hit the Christmas launch, so Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power is now available digitally for PS4! PlayStation Plus members will get a 10% launch discount lasting until 6th January.

Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power is a 3D platforming game set in a beautiful fantasy world of vivid colors, and is also a mixture of puzzles, adventure and action. You’re playing with three distinct characters, a Wizard specialised in conjuring boxes and levitation, a stout-hearted Knight with powerful fighting abilities, and an elusive Thief, great at fighting from afar with her bow and at overcoming obstacles with her grappling hook. Each character will help you in different ways on your puzzle- and action-packed journey.

The story starts off with the Heroes growing tired of their duties. They try to return their extraordinary gifts to the Artifact called Trine, and so they meddle with powers beyond their understanding: Trine shatters and a heartless ancient sorcerer escapes. With only a broken artifact to guide them, the heroes must try and repair the damage they’ve caused… or the damage that might yet be done.

The game has altogether 28 trophies, including a Platinum one, so you’ll have a good bit of challenge trying to complete them all.

We know there are a number of 3D TV owners out there, so we’ve continued to support stereoscopic 3D with Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power! And if you haven’t tried any of the Trine games in stereo 3D yet, now’s a good time to start :)

Here’s a list of key features:

  • A beautiful 3D fantasy world with seven story-driven Chapters and 11 puzzle-solving, skill-focused Lost Pages
  • Three playable characters, Pontius the Knight, Zoya the Thief and Amadeus the Wizard, each with their own skills and unique abilities
  • Share a couch! Local co-op multiplayer support for up to three players
  • Full HD 1080p with 60 FPS
  • Support for Stereoscopic 3D (720p)
  • Mesmerising soundtrack by award-winning composer Ari Pulkkinen
  • Full language support for English, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Japanese, and Brazilian-Portuguese, and subtitle support for Italian, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Simplified Chinese and Finnish.

One thing that I want to be upfront about (if you did not notice from the features list), is that unlike the previous Trine games on PS4, Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power sadly does not support online co-op due to technical issues. We hope that you’ll still enjoy playing co-op locally though.

  • Again…

Never played the series Trine; maybe a cool idea to bundle this new game together with Tine 1 and 2 :)

    Instant buy for me

  • Awesome! I’m glad you guys made the Christmas deadline. I’m getting it as soon as I get back home.

  • Looks awesome! I loved Trine 2 as well, got it as PS+ freebie and was pleasantly surprised. Will be getting this for sure.

    • Thanks for the support :) Glad you’ve enjoyed the games so far.

    • I asked a while ago, hope it happens! I always listen to the Trine 2 OST when I’m browsing. Hope you combine your amazing artwork with the OST, would be the best Theme available for sure and my instant all time favorite!

  • Yes! So happy it’s out before Christmas :) Any chance you guys will make a Trine dynamic theme for PS4?

    • Hmm. I remember that someone else was also asking about themes. It’s something we can look into, not sure about the requirements so can’t promise one, but it sounds like fun :)

  • Wow I didn’t even know this was a thing ! Very excited about trine 3 as the last two were some of the most beautiful games I have ever played , can we still share play to get around the no online co-op?

    • Actually share play should work, our QA team just tested it :) (As long as both parties have an active PS+ subscription)

  • Kai i bought it 1 second after it was added soooo i bought it 1st :D trine 4 next ;)

  • Yea trine Christmas theme

  • Trine 1 & 2 were amazing and it was refreshing to see such a clever puzzle game with amazing environments and interactive objects, all in 2D style. I really hope this new 3D style does the previous games justice.

Pricing is a bit steep though, even with the PS+ discount. I bought all the other versions so this one will definitely be added to my library when the price drops :)

  • Trine 1 & 2 was the best couch coop game on the PS4 since Pixeljunk Monsters. A definite buy for me. Thanks. :-)

  • Congratulations on the release. What is the reason behind not getting framepacked 3D @ 24hz 1080p and going with 60hz 720p instead? Also is there any chance for it to be added later with an update?

    • Back with Trine 2: Complete Story and Trine Enchanted it used to be a hardware issue, so stereo 3D would only output with 720p, and I think that is still the case.

  • Wow, loved the first two games and I didn’t even realise a third one was in development. A nice bonus that it is 3D too (both in terms of the gameplay and on my 3D TV).

Will definitely be picking this up over Christmas once Santa brings me a bigger HDD for my PS4 ;-)

  • Purchasing shortly… Please make Trine 4 :P

  • Big fan of the the Trine games. Have them on PS4 and Wii U. Will definitely grab this one too!

  • My only question is what’s your next project? You guys would make the jump to VR like warm butter off a knife.

  • i enjoyed both trine 1&2 but i think i will wait for a sale for the 3rd one, the asking price is a bit steep even with the ps+ discount, will you be providing a demo, you have in the past for your previous games so i assume this will get one aswell.

also the ps4 theme is a good idea, please make one! i love the art style in the games :)

  • I love that you support 3d!, 1 & 2 was excellent, and hope more developers follow you there! But when it comes to removing online co-op I am very sad, as that was what made 1 & 2 much more fun to play!, I really hope you concider to patch it in later then?.

    • Thanks – we do like the stereo 3D as well :) We’ll of course consider patching online multiplayer later on, if we can get it working reasonably. So no promises yet, but it is an option.

  • Here’s a list of key features:

o The game is not finished.
    o It’s shorter than Trine 2 DLC.
o It’s more expensive than Trine 2 DLC.
o The “3D” sequences are unplayable.

But there’s a free level — on PC!

    • En plus de ne pas avoir le trophée “Promenade dans le parc” ce qui rajoutait du piment et était un élément clé de la série. Sur ce coup, ils ont raté ce 3 ème volet, pas totalement mais tout de même.

  • I haven’t been so disappointed by a sequel in years (I bought the PC version). It’s quarter of a game (unbelievably short), and nothing like the amazing originals. And that price guys…are you serious? I know EVERYTHING is three times more expensive on Playstation, but £16?
I’ll wait for it to be on PS+ in several months. I’ve been burnt far too many times supporting developers only for it to be on PS+ four months later. It’s got to the point I only buy digital exclusives on XBOX now.
