So if you were thinking about importing Dragon Quest Heroes because that would be the only way you’d get to play it, you no longer have to!

Dragon Quest Heroes marks the first time the series will be a full scale action-RPG and it’s a ton of fun!

Check out this Japanese trailer to see some of the fast-paced action you can expect in the game.

So here’s a little bit about the game itself. In Dragon Quest Heroes, the protagonists must rise up against insurmountable odds, challenging swarms of enemies and conquering gigantic monsters in an exhilarating action game. Filled with characters and monsters designed by world-renowned artist Akira Toriyama, Dragon Quest Heroes is brought to the PlayStation 4 in beautiful HD graphics.

Both Yuji Horii, the general director and creator of Dragon Quest, and Koichi Sugiyama, the composer closely tied to the series since its first instalment and creator of countless musical masterpieces instilled in the memory of series fans, are closely involved in bringing this title to life.

Furthermore, ω-Force (Omega Force) from Koei Tecmo, the team that has created numerous popular action game series, is taking part in its development.

Dragon Quest Heroes is a game that Dragon Quest fans and gamers with all kinds of interests will enjoy.

We’ll have loads more details in the coming months, so be on the lookout for those updates and be prepared to get very excited! We hope you guys are as happy and hyped about this as we are!

  • Exclusively for PS4? No PS3 version in the West? I know it’s “inferior”, but still…

    • It’s time for developers to start ditching the PS3. Wish they would release more PS1 and PS2 classics and made them playable on PS4.

    • It’s not a valid excuse when the game DOES exist on PS3… it’s not like asking for a PS3 port of a PS4 game.

    • i mean, asking to MAKE a port which doesn’t already exist.

    • It’s really understandable from their perspective. Assuming Sony is helping the localization process, they save time/money working on a PS3 version, while pushing Western users to adopt the PS4.

    • Yet they don’t think twice before making the 35th version of Dynasty Warriors Whatever in three different flavours….

    • Yeah sorry, the PS3 version will not be coming out in the West. There’s basically two reasons for this:

1.) We want to deliver the definitive version of Dragon Quest Heroes to you guys which is the PS4 version due to the boost in graphical details/quality, the increased number of monsters that appear on screen and a smooth 60 fps framerate, all of which really do make a difference to the game.
2.) We want to get Dragon Quest Heroes out to you guys as fast as we can. If we did the PS3 version as well, it’d delay the game’s release due to the extra time and resources needed for localisation, testing, production, etc. So by focusing on the PS4 version of DQH we can get the best version of the game to you much quicker and the team are working as fast as they can so the game comes out as soon as possible.

  • Absolutely excellent news. I watched the opening and the first 15 minutes last night and I wanted the game so bad.

Day One for me and I eagerly await more news on the title.

  • Thank you Square.

The last anime stlyle RPG I played was Ni no Kuni so I’m looking forward to this. Plus hopefully this year you’ll give a release date for Final Fantasy 15.

    • It isn’t turn based btw so you’ll be disappointed if that is what you are looking for in a game. Dragon Quest XI would be a better release

    • Yeah as Fluffie_Bunny has mentioned, Dragon Quest Heroes isn’t like other more traditional JRPGs (or like most other Dragon Quest games) but hopefully you’ll still enjoy it :)

  • if your reading this Square Enix then release Dragon Quest 8 remaster for the PS4 or better yet a Dragon Quest HD collection for PS4. very easy money for you.

  • Nice to see Dragon Quest on Playstation again, in some form atleast :P

Will definitely check this one out. We’re getting the post launch free DLC too right?

    • Sorry but I can’t confirm any of the additional details like the Japanese launch DLC just yet but hopefully I can share some more news soon

  • Oh yeah, finally after Dragon Quest VIII i will able to play Dragon Quest again.

  • PS3 too! Even if only digital, im ok with that!

  • If this is even half as much fun as Hyrule Warriors then we’re in for a treat. Sadly as I’m not a big fan of Dragon Quest all the nods and winks will be over my head – unlike the Zelda ones – but still can’t wait to get my hands on it.

    • Glad to hear you’re excited! Dragon Quest Heroes is different to other games in the genre as a lot of the new features are Dragon Quest references but even if you don’t understand those, the new gameplay elements will still give you something unique and something just as fun

  • Let us know if you have any questions or suggestions in the comments below.

Will it have English Voice Acting?

Once finished do a Final Fantasy version of this game.

    • Unfortunately I can’t confirm any of the finer details of the game just yet but hopefully I shed some light on this kind of thing soon

    • Daniel Seto, please consider adding the original Japanese VO in these type of games too. I think a significant audience of these games have some love/interest in Japanese culture/Anime-Manga/.. and would love to play Japanese games in their original language (with English subs ofcourse.)

    • I’ll definitely let the team know that you guys would like the original Japanese VO so fingers crossed we can make it happen!

  • square enix can’t wait for this to come out ;D btw in the future could you possibly remaster DQ Journey of the cursed king on ps4 as that was a master piece ;) .

    • You don’t ask for much do you? :P
I do love DQ-VIII though. It was my first DQ game so I would be quite happy with this if it was to ever happen.

  • Cool, saw it on stream yesterday and wondered if it would get a EU release. Can always use more good jrpg’s.

  • Senkou Rekka Ken!! Alena and Yangus, I’ll be bashing in heads and cleaving them! Oh and maybe a certain beam as well ;) Isn’t that right Jessica? :D

  • I wish FFXV and KH3 were exclusive, too. :( But I’m so glad this is getting a Western release! Listening to the fans makes me so happy.

    • We’re always listening :)

      “We’re always listening”

Just like when Vita owners made Type 0 happen but it came to PS4 instead? Listening huh?

Just like people wanted FF7 remade on PS4 and you give them the PS1 classic? Listening?

Square Enix doesn’t listen. Atlus listens. Learn from them.

    • IMO, the best thing Square-Enix could do to show they are listening, is to release US PS1 Classics on the European Playstation Store. Games like Brave Fencer Musashi, Chrono Cross, Legend of Mana, Threads of Fate, Valkyrie Profile, Xenogears and other games they failed to release here back in the day.

Heck, even the US versions of FF7, FF8 and FF9 would be most welcome even though the games are already available here, as they would be running at 60Hz instead of 50Hz. FF9 especially, since there is a 12 hour limit on getting Excalibur II in the game which is nearly impossible to accomplish when the game runs 1/6th too slow.

    • We may not be able to do everything that is asked of us but we still certainly listen to our fans and try to do things when we can.

Unfortunately we can’t release US PS1 Classics on the EU PS Store because they were never released here. This means that we’d have to localise, test and produce the games like they’re new games and we sadly don’t have the time or resources to do that :( There’s also licensing issues to make things even more complicated which sucks as I’m personally a huge fan of Brave Fencer Musashi and Xenogears and would love to play those games again.

    • No localising is needed, since the games will be released ‘as is’, and they already been tested for the US Store release.

  • DAY 1!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you, can’t wait for a release date!!!

  • I assume that was for me since no one else has posted their team :D

And yeah! I have it sorted :D Just wondering about who else I’m supposed to take, I love them all but those 3(Alena, Yangus and Jessica) are my favourite ones ^^

oh another quicky Dan, have you started working on those *become an Overlord* plans yet?

    • Hah! Yeah, silly internet is dropping out. Probably too many slimes in the network or something!
Overlord plans are still in the pipeline…. just taking a little longer than expected :P

  • hmmmm please retain the original voice cover

  • Wow, awesome new. Just do english sub, no need so much cost and original dub alwasy much better!!!

  • will it keep it’s original japanese dub? cause i don’t buy games with english dub if they are either anime or either japanese orientated.

    • Nice, seems I’m not the only one here who thinks this is important!

    • @Stonesthrow

there are a lot more off Us than publisher think there are. just because we disorganized doesen’t mean we can’t impact sales as long as we keep true to our word we can make an impact.

    • I’m afraid I can’t confirm any details like this at the moment but if I have any news to share with you guys about this, I will certainly do so :)

  • Yeeeees!
    Please give us more jp-rpg^^
    I really enjoy playing them.

  • Good to see more localisations. Not sure if this is for me though after seeing the trailer, as I’ve never been into the Dynasty Warriors style, but I may give it a try. Final Fantasy Type 0 and FFXV Episode Duscae first though, already on pre-order for next month.

What I’d really like to see from Square Enix though:

    – The early PSP games (Final Fantasy 1-4 & Tactics and also Tactics Ogre) finally patched so they work on PlayStation TV. Seriously, Sony are blaming Square Enix, Square Enix are blaming Sony, and the only ones losing out are your customers. If every other company’s PSP games work on it, why don’t yours?

    – Dragon Quest 8, either updated with a HD remake or simply put on the store as a PS2 classic.

    – Likewise with Final Fantasy XII. So many rumours, so many hopes that we’d finally get the IZJS version in HD, in English, and we have heard nothing. If you’re not going to do it, at least put the original up as a classic.

Just a few thoughts, since your long term fans on PlayStation have been feeling more than a little neglected with the massive focus on Android / iOS platforms recently, and the long winter with no decent Final Fantasy games through the PS3 generation.

    • DQ8 and FF12 as PS2 Classics would be great. Another Square-Enix PS2 game I would like to see available is Musashi: Samurai Legend. Less known, but very enjoyable game IMO.

  • GREAT NEWS! DAY ONE PURCHASE! Now please bring MORE Dragon Quest games to Playstation, PLEEEEEEEEEEASE!!

  • Yes! Fantastic news! Will be picking this up day 1, thanks! :) I hope this does well, cause I’d love to get more DQ titles localized. Aaaaand just letting you know, I would definitely buy a HD Remaster of Dragon Quest VIII for PS3/PS4/PSV… ;)

  • Square Enix please don’t forget to make a remake of Final Fantasy XII International Zodiac Job System for PS4, it’s the one and only that really needs a HD update!

  • Count with my purchase on day one. On the other hand, my deepest sympathy to all PS3 only user

    Please keep the Japanese VA.

  • Thanks for bringing this over! Always happy to see more Japanese games coming out in Western territories.

  • Does the japenese edition feauture english written text as i am in japan next month…

    • I’m not entirely sure but I don’t think so. I believe the Japanese version only has Japanese language and text.

  • Amazing news! I was just looking for any hint of a Western release yesterday and now it’s here! Thanks Squeenix, here’s to hoping more DQ titles make their way to our shiny Western systems.

    • Well looks like we’re getting better with our timing :D
I’m hoping we’ll be able to bring out more DQ titles in the future. I guess we’ll all have to make sure DQH is a big success to make it happen!

  • Great news for me, big RPG fan and absolutely loved DQVIII way back in the PS2 days, thank you for bringing this to the PS4 in the West, I’m greatly looking forward to seeing Yangus and Jessica in action again alongside the new characters.

  • wow!!!! such good news. will buy the game day one. square, please give us DQ11 and DQ8 HD Remake i will buy them day one.

sony ,please help square to bring even more DQ games to the west. im so glad i have a ps4.

  • soooo uhhhhh can we get a close estimate on when it might come to the U.S please because i’m getting ship out to boot camp on july 13 and I was wondering if we would get it before than please :D if no than its understandable I guess ill just wait till i come back but I’m really excited about this game!

    • Glad to see you’re excited :D Sadly, I can’t comment on the release timing though. I’m not sure if it’s been 100% decided as the team are obviously still working really hard on the game but once I can let you know when the game is coming, I’ll be sure to let you know.

  • Thanks for ignore us, PS3 users. I will import PS3 version and I will give my money to Japanese Square Enix division.

  • Do the game feature online or offline multiplayer?

  • Oh yes i can finally get back into my dq games, i remember playing Dragon Quest VIII and doing the dragon boss fights to get the armor for the main hero.

  • I’ve been watching some people streaming this and it looks and SOUNDS great.
I want to play the game with the Japanese voice-acting but with English voice acting. Will you keep the Japanese VA in the Western versions? Please! :)

  • do this game have an english subtitle??
