Grand Theft Auto V on PS4: Introducing all-new First Person Mode

Available in both GTAV and GTA Online, Rockstar Games has made a host of changes to accommodate this new perspective

First Person Mode gives players the chance to explore the world of Los Santos and Blaine County directly through the eyes of their character, revealing all the world’s glorious details in an entirely new way.

Available in both GTAV and GTA Online, Rockstar Games has made a host of changes to accommodate this new perspective, including the creation of an optional first-person cover system, a new targeting system, a more traditional FPS control scheme, and integrating thousands of new animations into the existing game. It’s also available at the touch of a button so you can easily switch back and forth between perspectives.

Alongside the new First Person mode, Grand Theft Auto V for PS4 features hundreds of additions and enhancements including 1080p resolution at 30FPS. Grand Theft Auto V for PS4 is coming November 18th.

And don’t forget, you can transfer your previous Grand Theft Auto Online characters and progression from PS3 or Xbox 360 to PS4

  • Can’t wait!, need to see some more gameplay!

  • Great additional feature, that’s a proper way to get people to buy GTA V again :)

    • Absolutely, is this a first in gaming history? I’ve never seen a game where you can toggle between a third person and first person perspective…still…I do live under a rock :D

    • Skyrim, Fallout, Metal Gear Solid…. and to some extent, Deus Ex HR. It’s uncommon on PS I guess but nothing new to PC gamers.

    • Yea probably the best feature so far. Totally dignifies a repurchase now.

    • It’s a first for the GTA series, that’s why it’s so big. It will actually change the way we play and experience it, believe it or not.

A camera change might not seem big, but it’s everything.

  • Wooooooooo 1st person mode and i can finally go under the ocean using it and ppl dont ask R* why 30fps not 60 fps if it was 60 fps the game will slow down oh and R* i cant wait to use my $$$ bonus in game

    • 60FPS always looks better, but today it’s all about the marketing. Developers can’t show off 60FPS in screenshots, but they can show off extra graphical details. So which one do you think they’re going to focus attention on?

    • When you increase detail in a game, it means more draw calls and processing. Doesn’t mean it can automatically do 60fps just because the hardware is capable of it.
It takes a hell of a lot to optimise a game to run at the framerate, and would probably have to revert the game to the PS3 standard to maintain it.

  • Would you be able to transfer your gta online account backwards to ps3 or other consoles if you want or would I be stuck with my character on the ps4?

    • NO once you move it to ps4 ITS LOCKED IN FOR GOOD PERMANENT and CANT swap it back to ps3 never ever ever ever !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • You can still use your character on PS3 but progress on PS4 won’t be carried across, so you’ll be exactly where you left off on the old system.

  • Future Morpheus support anyone?

    • YES! Morpheus or 3D support, otherwise I might as well buy it on PC.

    • Not going to happen. VR would require:

      – Stereoscopic 3D (meaning that two scenes need to be rendered for every frame instead of one).
      – 60FPS (double the number of frames that the game currently renders)
      – Field-of-vision increase (your eyes see more widely than the camera in the game – this means more geometry needs to be rendered per frame).

All of these factors need to be multiplied. So if you can figure out how to pull off a performance increase of around 500%-1000%, then maybe we can start talking about VR in GTA5. :)

    • Impossible. There is no way that a game like this can be played in VR on PS4. Hell, even the small, linear not-so-pretty looking games that support Oculus Rift on PC need a decent powerhouse. To run GTA V on VR would need a top of the line PC. It’s more likely to get this game run in 4k at 60fps than to have VR support on PS4.

  • Wow this is amazing. I can’t wait!

But as a side question what about releasing San Andreas HD, it can’t be an anniversary without the successor of the platform it originally launched on.

  • Would be awesome to get a Vita game from R*. You made some great games on PSP (GTA Stories, Chinatown Wars, Midnight Club 3 & LA Remix, Manhunt 2) but you haven’t even touched Vita. San Andreas Stories would be such an awesome thing.

    • I blame Sony for this, not Rockstar.. Give them some incentive, Sony ;) This series alone always warranted the purchase of a console (portable in particular).

    • I agree veh much ^^

The Vita is missing a LOT of games from big companies, but the R* sized hole is ridiculous!

  • Sounds amazing, had a blast playing on ps3 so this will get me hooked on the ps4 version for sure :)

  • Still too expensive

    • But this is the only game you’ll ever need now, it has everything.

    • Everything? Like a campaign everyone’s already beaten, and the most bug-ridden multiplayer ever conceived, full of hackers and mouthy children.

    • But I already own it Andre, why would I pay full price for it again when I can get brand new games for less. Ive preordered Far Cry 4 and Dragons Age which both come out in the same week, I honestly don’t see the sense in missing one of these games for GTA V at $110 when I’ve already completed it.

If they had of offered a discount or ungraded option for existing owners then I may have double dipped, but to charge full price is only really fit for parodying in their next title. It’s their right, but it’s not exactly selling it to me.

    • Very cool, but still doesn’t justify another purchase. Rockstar should have offered a 50% discount for returning customers.

  • 60 USD = 55 GBP, really Sony???

    • Where do you get £55 from? Amazon says it’s £44.

    • 55 for download, also 55 in all my local retailers. My remake figure is 30, but I’ll take GTA V at 40 for the first person mode. All it needs to do is reach forty when I have that cash available, there are other games I haven’t played before at better prices so this will likely be waiting a long time.

    • On US store GTA V costs 59.99 USD, on UK store it costs 54.99 GBP. 59.99 USD = 37.73 GBP at the moment, so we pay + ~20GBP (+30%) for the game in Europe. It is very unfair in my opinion….

    • I guess it’s always been like that dude.

    • Why the complaining? If you don’t want to pay £55, you don’t have to… just buy it from Amazon for £44 instead of PSN or your local retailers? I don’t even know why anyone would be surprised that it’s overpriced on PSN; pretty much every game on the service is that way. Same goes for local game retailers.

Sounds like people just want to complain about something, when there is already a solution.

  • Holy amazingness! This settles the deal completely, this is going to provide a whole other experience which totally invites for a replay. Loved it in 4, especially in vehicles to enjoy the city even more immersed, can’t wait to give the fps a try. Full price shouldn’t throw you guys off, it’ll get pricecuts eventually ;) Rockstar, you guys are still the masters of this industry, never stop doing what you’re doing! <3

  • Can first-person mode be toggled for different situations individually? Like if I want to shoot in first person but race in third person (I just can’t drive in dashboard view).

    • As far as i can understand from this post u can use the Dualshock 4 Touch pad to toggle FPS mode/other modes and yes should be able to do this at any time of your choosing. :)

    • Quote from above “It’s also available at the touch of a button so you can easily switch back and forth between perspectives”

    • According to the IGN preview, there are individual FPS/TPS switches for driving, shooting, walking and taking cover, so you’ll be able to set it up however you like

    • Thanks guys

  • Question to those who have played the game: Is the pre-order bonus of GTA$1 million + GTA$150k considered a lot of money in the game? Is that good incentive to pre-order or is that something you can easily farm over a couple of nights?

    • No, on my PS3 save Michael has over 2 billion, Trev 1.7 billion and Franklin 1.2 billion, yes, billion with “b” and I’m only about half way through the game and haven’t played it since last Christmas. I got this money from investing the 5 million or so (split between the three) from the second heist on the in game stock market. I made profit numbers in the tens of thousands of percents turning millions into billions with no effort whatsoever.

    • Thanks for the info :)

    • Just occurred to me you might have been talking about GTA Online cash. The gains from missions and PvP have been drastically reduced via patches to push people towards the micro transactions, you can however still easily earn in excess of 20k per hour via regular gameplay. You can sell cars to the garages once every 48 minutes, the highest value car that can be sold and had a common spawn is the Range Rover Sport, in game name I don’t remember, but it sells for 9k undamaged.

  • WOW!! This is really making me want to trade my Wii U and Vita in for a shiny new PS4!

Then again, GTA5 looks like it could be a fantastic Remote Play experience. I have a severe, chronic illness and can’t always get into the living room, so the PS4/Vita connectivity looks like it could be perfect for me, right guys? That’s why I got a Wii U instead of a PS3 in the first place.

Aside from the usual L2/R2 control issues, is Remote Play really as good as it appears? And if so, should I go ahead and finally get a PS4? I mean, aside from GTA, I’d love the chance to get my hands on some properly cool games, like The Last of Us, Diablo III and Uncharted 4, etc.

    Thanks everyone :-)

    • Depending on your age, I would sell the Wii U and just stick with PS4 and Vita.

    • No! Definitely do not sell your Wii U! Unless you are sure you aren’t going to play a lot of couch multiplayer you will probably want to hold on to it. At least now that couch multiplayer is pretty much dead everywhere else

    • Get the ps4 1st person mode gta5 is gonna be better then call of boring advanced borefare glad i didnt buy call of boring it dnt let you shareplay it

    • Sell the WiiU, keep your Vita and get yourself a PS4. There are enough games there now to hold your attention and there starting to come in thick and fast from now on.

  • @loadstone006s – yeah, I’m a mature gamer…

I’m 41, but shhh, keep that to yourself ;-)

    Thanks for the advice buddy!

  • Ooops, I meant 007, sorry buddy.

Arrrgh, why isn’t there an edit button for our comments?! Now I’m triple-reading everything before hitting ‘add comment’.

  • I definitely wouldn’t sell your PS Vita – love that little machine! I Can’t comment on the Wii U as I’ve never had one. PS4/Vita connectivity is good and you can also use Vita it as a second controller. Uncharted games have always released in Q4, so you might have to wait for another year; but there are a lot of PS4 games to keep you busy until then :D

    • Thanks for the advice Guylian!

I’ve got a ton of games downloaded onto my Wii U’s 2TB hard drive — pretty much every first-party title, all the good eShop indies, and dozens of NES, SNES and GBA games — so if I can get decent money for it on eBay, trading up to a PS4 mightn’t cost very much. Mmm, I’m mightily tempted right now. Like really, really tempted.

  • Isn’t there already a first person view while driving/flying? lol

  • i like this mod :D

  • Главное, что бы картинка соответствовала всем ожиданиям. от первого лица на мой взгляд только добавить фанатов этой игра.
    Ждем 18 ноября.

  • Looks awesome and they did a great job adjusting the game play, it looks like it was meant to be first person, can’t wait to try it out.

  • Ok so change of heart time, after seeing 1st Person mode. If I get this for PS4, I can transfer over my online character from 360? Correct? But only once and my character stays the same on 360. I.e. If I play one game more than the other I’ll progress further.

Just thinking this could suit me well, I like Vita gaming, so remote play to PS4 would be great on my own. But play on 360 with my work buddies.

  • This is going to rock

  • will it have photo mode like the last of us and shadows of mordor

  • What about photo mode?

  • i love this game, best game ever check this blog for more
