The acclaimed open world crime epic returns with extra bells and whistles
Hello everyone! I just wanted to drop by to let you know that Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition launches on PS4 in Europe tomorrow! If you’re a bit unsure of what either Sleeping Dogs or the Definitive Edition is, here’s a brief rundown of what you’re in for…
Sleeping Dogs is an open world action-adventure game set in Hong Kong with a strong focus on martial arts and stylised melee combat. Guns do also come into play though they aren’t as omnipresent as in certain other open world games, so you’ll likely spend a bit more time punching and kicking thugs before throwing them into newly-added breakable objects and deadly parts of the environment than shooting them up.
While traversing the town on foot you’ll be vaulting and free running your way over and across obstacles though you can of course also expect loads of vehicle mayhem and races, but just remember: people drive on the left-hand side of the road in Hong Kong!
A bit like the classic crime movie Infernal Affairs, the story revolves around Wei Shen, an undercover cop who’s infiltrating the Hong Kong Triads in an attempt to take down the Triad heads, otherwise known as Red Poles. To maintain his cover, however, Wei has to do some preeettty criminal stuff. Of course, as Wei continues to rise through the Triad ranks, it becomes tougher and tougher to separate cop from criminal and duty from loyalty.
The Definitive Edition of Sleeping Dogs contains the original Sleeping Dogs, now running natively at 1080p with greatly improved textures, added ambient effects, tweaked gameplay and a few other improvements that were made possible by the PS4 (such as increased pedestrians and traffic).
Additionally, the Definitive Edition also includes all the extra content created for the game (over 20 DLC packs) including outfits with special bonuses or combat moves, super cars, additional missions and races, as well as over three hours’ worth of story-extending gameplay.
My personal favourite is the Drunken Fist outfit simply for its hilarious combo moves. Do you have any favourites? Let us know. Whether you’re an old hand at Sleeping Dogs, or have just arrived in Hong Kong fresh off the boat, I’d love to hear from you what you think about the game and I’ll of course also be more than happy to answer any questions you might have about the Definitive Edition.
Otherwise, have fun in Hong Kong officer Shen!
