Acclaimed deckbuilding game coming soon from Playdek

Greetings everyone! This is Shyla, Playdek’s Community Manager, and I am here to share with you all some exciting news.

Currently our team is busy working on bringing our award winning digital game Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer out for PS Vita! Soon you will be able to play this deck-building game on your favourite hand held device, and with this release we have some very interesting features that we are working on that you are sure to love.

One of the features that we will be able to offer with this release is cross-platform connectivity. Yup, you read that right. With cross-platform connectivity, you will be able to connect to other players and play against them regardless of what device they are playing on.

So you know that friend who loves playing on their tablet device? You will be able to play with them! You know that friend who seems like they have their phone attached to their hand at all times? You will be able to play with them! Basically any device that runs Ascension, you will be able to connect with. This means that you will have a much larger pool of gamers to connect with and you will hopefully have more available games to join than you will know what to do with.

“Cross-platform connectivity is all fine and dandy,” you say, “but what good is playing with others if we can’t talk with each other?” Good point, and to that I would like to let you know that with our organised gameplay system which will be built into the game, you will also be able to chat not only with your opponent in the game, but you will be able to chat with all of your friends who play our games regardless of their device.

There is so much more I want to tell you about this game such as its incredible AI for solo play and the fact that the game will have at least five expansions ready to go, however I will save that for another time.

I can’t wait to start sharing more with you all about this amazing game as time goes on and to keep you all posted on development, so if you have any questions feel free to post them in the comment section!

Thanks for reading, and we can’t wait to get this game out into your hands!

  • I NEED THIS IN MY VITA! AND A GAMEPLAY VIDEO FROM IT TOO!

  • Great news! We need more CCGs/TCGs/LCGs on the Vita! :)

  • I don’t really like card games but I like the idea of cross-platform play outside of PS systems, really awesome for all the players. Kudos for that.

  • via Wikipedia
“Playdek is an independent video game development company founded in 2011, based in Carlsbad, California. Playdek specializes in developing board games and card games for the iOS platform.”

specialize in developing games for iOS… that’s not the best references in gaming industry

    And sorry for being spiteful
“Cross-platform connectivity is all fine and dandy,” you say, “but why whould I buy it for Vita if I can play it on tablet?” so… really… if we can buy it on tablet and probably cheaper… why would we buy it for Vita. I know that we are kinda desperate… but still…

But ow well… I will check it, maybe I will like it or maybe not. It doesn’t look bad :/ but still I would prefer if you just made a game exclusive for Vita… :/

    • I’d say starting off with cross-play is excellent; it’s perfect for developers to test the waters of a new platform, players can get a taste of their games and they can communicate with an outside community right away. This way, they don’t have to worry about a small player base, so the value of the game is increased right when you buy it Day 1. Vita exclusive games are dying and I don’t blame devs; times are tough and they need all the money they can get. All things considered, Vita gets a lot of third party support. There are a lot of games coming and while I won’t play this game, they do deserve some praise for this cross-platform initiative.

Now, if you compare that to the 3DS, where the first party support is excellent but the third party support not so much…

    • Buried in the great amount of videogames trash living in mobile gaming there`s a few gems and Ascension: Chronicle of the Godslayer is one of them.

    • @zelwelgoedgaan
I understand what you mean, and I agree that it is perfect way for developers. But what’s in for us?

Acension is game from 2011, it is not new game. And I kinda feel that they decided that they won’t find new customers on tablet that’s why they moved to Vita… to milk us.

I mean really what is in for us? Is there any new content that will justify playing Ascension on Vita? You know I can pick it up on tablet… I need a reason, some proof that it will be more fun playing it on Vita. New conent, something proved, maybe even new functions using Vita features.

      @Homessa
Oh I won’t deny this… but like I said, I want them to tell us why it would be better for us to pick it up on Vita instead of tablet. That’s the only thing I want from them.

  • Great more card games for Vita is always good for me :)

  • More Vita announcement:

(Hyperdimension Neptunia Rebirth 2, now printing physical copies for EU and NA)

  • Finally! So sad to see this buried in the mobile space but now you can shine :)

BTW, Unsong Story, haven’t heard much from you there :(

  • I have been hoping for more card games like this on vita for a long time, Im super glad these games are finally making an appearance, cant wait, looks great!

  • Vita library is getting thicker and thicker day by day. Thanks to devs like you. I havent played any card games yet but would definitely gonna give this a try..

  • I have the ios version and it is so good. I will buy this just to support playdek. They do a fab job of making awesome board/card games mobile. I’d recommend this to everyone

  • Finally a good card game on Vita! Uncharted: FFF is so broken in online it’s impossible to play it :( And single player gets boring quite fast.

  • Wow, good to know. It will be a day one for me for sure!
As Diablo III was/is a success on Playstation consoles and Hearthstone is available on iOS maybe SCE should talk about porting it to PSV/PS4/PS3?
Is there any chance for a collaboration with Wizards of the Coast and a Vita Magic the Gathering game?

On a side note. Seeing so many new announcements days after GamesCom I’m just confused. I somewhat understand that SCE wanted to solidify the success of PS4 and concentrated their energy and time on that one – but why, oh why, haven’t you guys created a LONG pre-recorded announcement of 20-30 Vita titles that are being released now or in the coming months and released it on the blog? It would save you guys from mine and others comments full of butthurt.

  • This game is fantastic! Don’t be discouraged by that iOS tag.
I will definitly buy it if the font size is better than the iOS version. I remember having a hard time playing this because of the small text.

  • I already own this on iOS. I can confirm it is an excellent game and well worth buying.

My questions; the only way I’d consider buying a Vita version is if it supports

    * Trophies
    * All the expansions available on iOS now

Will the Vita version have both of these at launch?

    Other questions.

    1) When will it launch?
    2) Can we use the account we use on mobile to log in on Vita?
    3) How will turn based notifications work on vita?
    4) Will there be any sort of discount on expansions for people who own them on mobile?

    Thanks guys!
