Hi there! Phil Larsen from Halfbrick Studios and Alexey Menshikov of Beatshapers here, and are excited to announce that one of the biggest names in mobile gaming – Jetpack Joyride is coming to PlayStation Network later today, priced at £3.49/€3.99.

With over 35 million downloads around the world so far, millions more can now suit up as Barry Steakfries and join in the high-flying phenomenon.

Down on his luck as a struggling gramophone salesman, Barry comes across the “secret” laboratory of Legitimate Research, a corporation dedicated to developing crazy new technologies. Seizing the chance to become a hero, Barry begins his ride after commandeering a jetpack and making good his escape, where the player jumps in and guides his adventure with accessible one button gameplay.

Along the way, players must avoid lasers, missiles and electro zappers, all the while grabbing coins and trying out even more ridiculous vehicles – Lil’ Stomper, Profit Bird and the robot dragon himself, Mr. Cuddles!

The game features a robust Stash system, where everyone can upgrade their gear, change the suite, buy some gadgets and utilities or track their progress of unlocking 34 in-game achievements.

Grab one of 12 jetpacks including the classic Machine Gun Jetpack or the colorful Rainbow, suit up in a vast wardrobe of unique costumes and make sure Barry’s best friend Flash comes along for the ride!

Gadgets can be purchased from Stash with collected coins: there are 16 various gadgets available for Minis version. Gadgets are organised into a tier system, with a particular number of purchases required to unlock the next level.

You can equip two of them for any run but clever gadget-pairing offers extra reward. Claim precious extra sliding meters (Freeze-o-matic), super maneuverability (Gravity Belt and Air Barry), grab extra loot with Coin Magnet, or equip Free Ride to get a free Vehicle ride for your next escape attempt.

  • does the Playstation really need ports of these casual gamer type games? I say no!

Can’t we stick to original minis and triple A quality titles please?

  • Do you really think anyone will buy a smartphone game that is 15 months old for 4 times the price (if not more, I’m too lazy to check if it’s free on the AppStore and the Google Play Store) that it costs on those devices? This isn’t even a game that benefits from the physical controlls at all.

  • Once again im angered by sony. How can u charge 3.49 for a game that is FREE on all mobiles
Im not surprised it has 35 million downloads. Its a great game. However. Im sure 99% of those downloadswere FREE. Once again sony, ypu find a way to pray on the consumer.

  • Pity it’s a Mini with no trophies, trophies would motivate me to pick this up instead of just paying few pence for it on my phone.

  • Oh wow hahahahahahaahahha, £3.49…You’ve got to be kidding me. Woooooow. IT’s free on Android and like what 69p on iOS. Christ Halfbrick. Way to screw us over. hahaha

  • Sorry about the mistakes. New phone lol

  • I think I’ll stick with the Free ios version I have already but thanks anyway!

  • Already have this game on my phone. Got it for free. Don’t see how £3.49 is worth it when it was only 59p/69p on the Apple app store when it actually cost money.

  • its a really fun game and ive enjoyed playing it on my ipad, but it seems very unfair to charge ps3/vita owners for this game when its free on ios and android. and worse youre charging £3.50!!! if it was 50p i could understand it but this is a real insult. i like halfbrick’s games but i hope this sells poorly on playstation devices to teach you guys and other publishers that want to rip off consumers that it wont succeed

  • with regards to it being free on android is this not due to it being supported by add’s like most free android games? the mini’s format most likely cant do add support.

No one is forcing you to buy it. It’s optional, and those who want to buy it will buy it. If you have no interest, surely you can continue doing whatever it is you do on your PS3/PS Vita/PSP, right?

  • ok so just d/l on my xperia s to see if it was add supported and its not, it seems the things that are unlocked from the start would have cost coins and they add up to around the same amount.

i guess the main difference with the smartphone game is you have the choice to play to earn the extras or pay to earn them but with the mini you straight pay to get them.

first time i have tried the game and its quite cool actually but now i have it on my phone im sorted lol.

  • @11
of course we dont have to buy it, but its wrong that sony/publishers are asking significantly more from playstation customers than iOS/android customers for the same game. we shouldnt let them get away with this and we should voice our displeasure so that hopefully we wont get overcharged in future.
something else interesting to note, a vita game orgarhythm was a full price game in the US (not sure if its coming to EU) but its on android for free with in app purchases. I much prefer that model where I can try the game and decide if i like it and then spend more on it, but we are made to pay full price (and sometimes higher prices) for games up front with no demo or trial (e.g. black ops declassified).
it isnt sony’s fault but they should be talking to their publishers and trying to get them to do the right thing for the customers so that we dont just go elsewhere

  • PSA everyone- PS+ on Vita is now LIVE :D

You have to manually search for the free games but they’re there!

  • Re 11. Like being a smart ass on the PS blog….

  • Steakfries is back? Awww yeah!

  • wow sine mora on vita is £12 and on US store it was $10! yet again we get overcharged

  • Is there same resources/textures being used on the Vita/PS3 version?

I recalled some Giraffe game that had higher textures if you run the Minis game on your PS3 instead of your PSP.

    • Having higher resolution for minis is not possible unfortunately, so yes its same look on PS3 and PS Vita.
I must admit its looks quite okay. Funny, that on PS3 you can fly longer distances (same phenomena as we spotted on Canabalt) – we suspect its because of larger TV screen.

  • I wud like to see black ops zombies ported to the vita in the same way…. That wud be an awesome game to play & worth the money!

  • 99p and this would have been a buy from me, I can understand the porting/development costs for this but to echo a lot of the above responses, I have already put hours into the game on my iphone (it is simply addictively fantastic) but it falls into the category of Plants and Zombies for me, I would pay again, but why should I pay 4 times the amount I paid originally?

Needs to be a serious discussion in Sony’s head offices regarding digital distribution prices – it is not only Sony though, but the proces I see for some games especially the VITA is outrageous, if you want to push your portable gaming masterpiece don’t cripple it by being greedy.

  • Guys, of course it’s going to cost more than the smartphone version. Gotta pay for classification fees (PEGI, ACB, etc.) on PSP/PS3/Vita, and it’s not self-published here, unlike the smartphone version.

  • Free on Android. Free on Amazon Appstore (or at least it was a daily deal – got it on my Kindle Fire).

Great game, but can’t recommend at that price, sorry.

  • Well, is better than a £40 Angry Birds…

  • Brilliant game and not a completely terrible price :)

  • Will this have openfeint sync, or will I have to start fresh? Also will it receive updates at the same time as the iOS version?

  • While i understand Halfbrick/Sony have to make back their money, they also have to understand that they need to give something different/added to the informed consumer. You know, a checklist like
-Exclusive levels, powerups, costumes, mode, skins, whatever.
Something not very difficult to implement for the dev, but much easier to justify a purchase.
A good game for 4 Eur is not expensive, but if it is 0 Eur elsewhere, it is expensive.

  • “With over 35 million downloads around the world so far,” – How many of them paid the £3.49 price ? Shame on You And Sony

  • It’s so casual, but it’s really fun game. Shame that I got it free on iphone and windows 8 with achievements.

  • Does this version contain all of the recent updates and upgrades from the iPhone version and will it be updated frequently like that one too?

  • So the PS3/PSVita gamers now have to pay what mobile gamers don’t? Hilarious to say the least XD

  • I’m amazed at how cheap some players are – the same ones who cough up £40 for Black Ops on release (and another £42 for a season pass) can’t find £3.49 (less if you buy PSN vouchers under face value).

Porting to VITA isn’t as simple as could (should?) be. It’s time and money that could be spent on new games so it has to be paid for. With Sony taking a cut, tax and the (admittedly low) cost of digital distribution the devs won’t make anywhere near the £3.49.

For ad-free play on multiple devices, it’s not unfair at all. Yes, if you compare it to iOS/ daily deals then it’s not as cheap, but you’ve got the option to grab it (even now) for free there. If you want it on the VITA, cough up. Want it on your IOS phone? Get it for free (just remember you had a much higher entry cost for getting that phone, and the devs don’t get paid for the game when you dl for free, and they clearly deserve to be paid).
