Digital Comics Store Update (15th September 2010)

Well, dear readers, this is one hell of a week: not only do we have a pretty great selection of new series for you, but we’re also bringing you some long-awaited comics today… Read on!
Locke & Key! Need I say more? The eagerly awaited issue #6 of IDW‘s Locke & Keys: Crown of Shadows is now available! This epilogue brings closure on the traumatic events of the previous issues by focusing on Nina Locke and the discovery of two more keys, which could make or break the family…
And that’s not all in terms of Locke & Key goodness: this week also marks the start of Locke & Key: Keys to the Kingdom! In #1 of this brand new story, Bode Locke manages to unlock a world of tooth, fang, claw, feather… and death. It doesn’t bode well (!). You’ll see.
If you’re looking for another excellent horror/fantasy tale we also recommend DC Comic‘s Sandman, written by the acclaimed Neil Gaiman! An occultist accidently traps Morpheus, embodiment of Dreams, for 70 long years… Upon his release Morpheus must rebuild his fallen kingdom, and it won’t be an easy task: as Gaiman notes, “The Lord of Dreams learns that one must change or die, and makes his decision”. What will it be?

Also in our comic store is another brilliant Silent Hill comic: Silent Hill: Paint it Black. In this stand-alone story, a painter and semi-professional slacker finds his muse in gloomy Silent Hill: Cheryl, a sexy / survivalist-trained / gun-toting cheerleader (phew). Together with Cheryl’s teammates they must survive another wave of deadly creatures – will they succeed?
And finally, please allow me to highlight the ever-popular and fantastic series Y: The Last Man. It has many fans and readers already, but in case you’re not one of them yet it tells the tale of Yorick Brown, the last man on Earth. Is he alone? Not quite, as the plague that wiped men seems to have spared… women. Yorick goes on a difficult quest across a ravaged America to find his lost love, finding unexpected friends and enemies along the way and making astonishing discoveries as he goes. Great story full of twists and surprises – and #1 is completely FREE, so give it a try!

  • Not really sure as if what to write, as I still feel down, so I will just ask:
    Release in Scandinavia/rest of EU?
    Comics reader for PS3
    And Crossregion gifting?

  • I will join post one..
    Comics reader PS3!!
Release in the Netherlands rest of EU?

  • Great update Pauline! :)
Did you manage to find out about any more future regular Sonic the Hedgehog Comics?
Also, so the Silent Hill comics are just one purchase for the whole story. No part 1 and part 2 etc?

    • Aw thanks, glad you like it! :-)
No Sonic the hedgehog just yet I’m afraid, but schedules are being discussed so I hope to have more news soon.
For Silent Hill, it depends which ones: Dying Inside is in five parts for instance, and also, well… we have more to come. ;-)

  • Locke & Key back with two issues, and Sandman is on the store? Those two things alone might make this the best update yet! :)
Just read the first two trades of Sandman recently, and I’ll happily read them again on my PSP and you have saved me having to buy a load more trades now to. Digital ftw! :) Will be interesting to see how the art looks on the PSP.
Very interested to check out Midnight Kiss from Markosia as well.
No Wildcats etc. from Wildstorm this week though? Likely a good thing as I haven’t manage to get through all my comics from last week yet.

    • Thanks :D Hope you like Sandman on PSP and Midnight Kiss.
No Wildcats for a little while I’m afraid – but we’ll do our best to keep you busy anyway. ;-)

  • yay, more comics.
more tf, starcraft and y the last man.
it would be great if the world of warcraft comic was available too, any plans for that that you can tell us?
oh yeah, ps3 version please. ^_^

    • Yes WoW comic would be great – sadly, no plans for it yet.
Personally I think the Dungeons & Dragons comic makes up for it, but that’s just my humble opinion. ;-)

  • I have actually started reading this post before the game update post.
Mostly in hope that you guys will give a positive answer for people like Shadowdragoon and the others of us that are not included in the PSN comic family.
But I’m started to feel jaded about the whole thing.. New week, new disappointment

    • Thanks for reading!
About other stores we read you and we understand you, but sadly it’s not up to us personally at this stage. :-(

  • Locke. And. Key.
Although I did leave my PSP at home today. :(
Sandman sounds interesting – Neil Gaiman should be a good indicator of quality, right?
Had no idea what Y was about when I downloaded #1 ages ago.
That summary has spurred me to get stuck in tonight.
Much love to the Comics team (perhaps you could pass on any overspill to Mike and the Game team – they could probably do with it!).

    • Thanks very much for the kind words!! :D
Yup, Locke & Key – new art direction on the new series too, hope you like it (we do).
Y: The Last Man is very cool, make sure you read #1 and see if you like that too.
And Mr Gaiman is definitely a good indicator of quality! The story is really strong.

  • PS3 Mubi service in Belgium : next month
PSP Comic service in Belgium : still unknown
Some services seem to have a better relationship with SCEE for getting released in other EU countries.
Are you still in talks with SCEE? By cans and string or by actually doing meetings?
Keeping us in the dark is really getting on everyone’s nerves.

  • LOCKE & KEYE!!!!! About time, thanks for making my week :D

  • glad the sandman has finally arrived, making a good week for comics a great week. Now to spend all the money I have left buying them all :D

  • Woo, Locke and Key!
Not sure if I’ve asked this recently but any news on The Wlaking Dead on the Store?

  • Nice, got my weekly dose of Y :)
If I where to make some requests European comic Thorgal would be on the top of my wishlist for the comics store. Elfquest would also be much appreciated!

  • we’re gettin plenty in this update =P

  • whats to possibility of getting Manga on PSN?

  • Nice stuff!
Can I make a request or two? Would it be possible to get “What If…? The Other” to compliment Spider-man The Other? And could you get New Ways to Die too?
Also I will mimic the above poster and ask if there is the possibility of adding manga to the store in the future. I know they’re gearing towards digital releases now with companies such as Square Enix.
