Hello PlayStation community! The Dead Space 2 team is excited to bring you something for the first time in the history of the franchise — the ability to strategically dismember your friends in our all new multiplayer feature!
That’s right, Dead Space 2 will offer its own unique take on multiplayer, which is intensely gruesome and completely grounded in the Dead Space universe and fiction. Dead Space 2 will feature four-versus-four gameplay with an objective based multiplayer, across five unique locations throughout the Sprawl.
Not only will players have the chance to play as the Sprawl Security Team, but they will have a chance to see the other side of the coin and play as the evil Necromorph forces. Players will be able to play as four different Necromorph characters, each with its own unique gameplay style: The Pack, The Lurker, The Spitter, and the newly famous Puker.
In DS2 MP, the Sprawl Security Team will have specific, unique objectives across five different maps which will be focused on eradicating the Necromorph forces and restoring safety across the Sprawl. On the other hand, the Necromorphs must stalk, trap, and devour the Sprawl Security Team and prevent them from completing their mission.
Dead Space 2 multiplayer will also feature an entire level progression metagame in which players will unlock new weapons, suit skins, weapon upgrades, as well as gameplay characteristics that will build on the core mechanics of each Necromorph.
The Dead Space 2 team is hard at work right now, and we’re focused on shipping a phenomenal multiplayer experience for all of the fans. We’re really looking forward to getting it in your hands on 28 January.
Thanks for your support!
OMG….Just pure epicness!!! Cant wait for this.
So looking forward to this. What’s going on with the PS3 LM version though? Is that coming to EU? It’s not listed on Amazon :|
Any chance we will see a demo, I would love try this out before I decide…?
I’m looking forward to DS2 like no other game.
But..Does such a story heavy and excellent game need a multiplayer?
Will it suffer in the single player because of it?
I hope it
A: Isn’t something that will mean the one player game has been comprimised.
B:Isn’t a shoddy afterthought tha will put a lot of people off buying the game.
Please don’t ruin the franchise by diluting it for the masses!
@ NOZonline
What’s to decide about? It’s Dead Space! :D
I will buy it mainly because of the thrilling single player, but this is a welcoming addition :)
Please, please, please add Move support for Dead Space 2!
snooze*** sorry… but i hate all this typical “i shoot u when i see you” mp-stuff… an online (or better offline) coop-mode would be nice,… for such a brillant-game
to be honest: the uncharted 2-mp-mode clarified, how a genius game-idea and athmosphere can be destroyed with such mp-“experiences”… sorry for beeing that honest! ;)
Can’t wait!!! check out the webpage below for a trailer of the online. It looks amazing!

@syncroUK The game will be a double pack with a HD Move enabled remake of the Wii game Deadspace Extraction.
Doubt DS2 will also have Move compatibility as well.
I agree with SyncroUK, I’d love to see Move support added into Dead Space 2! :D
I loved Dead Space 1. This is looking cool;)
@ 11
I know Extraction supports Move which is a great bonus but I’m specifically talking about the main Dead Space 2 game. The pacing of Dead Space would suit the control scheme perfectly.
Hey there Mr. Probst!
Thanks for posting about the multiplayer here, I’ve already read a few things about it and seen the gameplay on GTTV.
So I don’t really have any questions concerning this mode because we don’t know a lot of things right now.
Though I’d just want to know about two things:
-Is a multiplayer Beta under consideration (something I think would be extremely helpful for a new type of multiplayer gameplay) ?
-And are there any plans for DLCs (not asking what type of DLCs, could be solo or multiplayer, but I’d like to know if Visceral Games is thinking about it) ?
Also there is still something intriguing me that isn’t related to the game’s multiplayer and I hope you hold the answer:
-Is Dead Space Extraction only coming along with Dead Space 2 (be it Special Edition or PSN) or will it have a PSN release before the game? Because it would be hard to play Extraction while knowing Dead Space 2 is waiting for me.
Thanks a lot for reading that!
Bye!
NOZonline, there will be a demo prior to release, that was confirmed at an EA event this weekend.
I think Move support has been confirmed for Dead Space 2
I need to play a multiplayer demo before I bite on this. I’m very sceptical. Dead Space 1 was such a brilliant game, but I can see the single player campaign being compromised for multiplayer features…
Wow, need to complete the first one still!
I already saw a feature length preview from game trailers showcasing all of the DS2 multiplayer so this isn’t news to me but still cool to see the epicness that is Dead Space to be getting around.
Hehehe… I am looking forward to jump at people as a Necromorph baby :-)
But the Single Player mode has still my highest expectations!
Looks fun, but come on Visceral Games or EA Games, or Sony, I don’t know who I’m supposed to be addressing my comment to: ADD MOVE SUPPORT TO THIS GAME!!!
To make a true COMPLETE package with the Extraction bonus! And GOOD Move Support too, by this I mean, good Controller layout such as: Move TRIGGER for shooting when aiming and close-combat when not aiming, big Move button to aim, having the sprint button as L2, etc. AND ALSO, controlling the CAMERA and the AIMING with the Move, like having 2/3 of the picture to aim, and after this the camera turns in the direction you’re going outside 2-3 box and the nearer you get to the edge of the screen, the faster it moves the camera. ALSO, don’t change the laser sights for a BIG UGLY CROSSHAIR, KEEP the laser sights.
PLEASE VISCERAL GAMES: MAKE THIS HAPPEN AND I BUY THIS GAME FIRST DAY WITH THE MOVE!
Thank you!
Move support for the first one would be siiick too, I would play it all over again and if it would be well marketed, maybe it would be a way to sell a bit more of Dead Space 1.
Cannot. Freaking. Wait.
Simple
@sensiblade Didn’t you watch E3, dead space 2 will have move support and so will the wii game remake, aswell as it coming with the DS psn game, this will all be bundled as a special edition!
Looks great, can’t wait to dismember my friends :D
Scott,
Does it have multiplayer based trophies? If yes what’s the balance between the number of on-line and off-line trophies. (please say the trophies are for single player only ;-))
def buying this, just waiting on the Collector’s Edition to get it’s price to make sure it ain’t out of my reach >_<
better get my A into G and finish #1. BFBC2 stole my attention the past few months… ;) – this is looking epic.
Like Sp4reNL, I’m hoping trophies are SP only!
greaaaaat -_-
another franchise adding MP so it can appeal to all the 12 year olds who otherwise wont buy a game that’s just a campaign
I cannot help feeling I would rather only have SP on this title (as with many other games)
not every game needs multiplayer… they usually get neglected very quickly anyway by both the publishers and the gamers…
A game like this, better make the SP twice as long and twice as good instead of spreading your resources thin…
but I will give the MP its chance when I get DS2 which I definitely will as Part one kicked ass!
I have a feeling that this multiplayer was only put in for EA to rake in more money from Online Passes…
A true singleplayer gone bad let’s hope not. And let’s hope story mode is as good as 1st dead space and ent just about multiplayer.
THANK YOU FOR THE PS MOVE SUPPORT XD
It sounds like a thrilling idea, but just looks like an obvious left 4 dead rip off, probably more scary, but most likely not as refined and fun as left 4 dead 2. That baby just stinks of hunter.
Sounds alright. But most games get ruined by adding multiplayer.
As excited as I am for Dead Space 2, I have got to say that I’m not looking forward to the multiplayer.
I don’t understand why developers are beging to think that all games need online.
This is one game that was awesome without online play and I’m sure the second will even better, but it don’t need MP to sell.
