Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • As someone who already owns a PS5, it’s a real no brainer that this is a very hard pass. This small upgrade is nice but not $952.66 CAD nice. Even for someone who doesn’t have a PS5 I’d say that it’s a very hard sell.

  • I am a long time customer and I am used to pay the same amount of € as others pay $, but can somebody please explain to me, why I should pay ~878$ (799€) while others pay ~634€ (699$), am I missing something?

    • There’s likely some law or the value difference between the € & the $. It might also be due to shipping import costs. Those are my best guesses.

  • $700, ouch! added with $80 Start saving up by buying the optical disc and saving up for the big part for it. But I like the design; like, that same goes with it. I want to play Monster Hunter Wilds, GTA VI, FFVII Rebirth, FFXVI, and more games I would play.

  • As a long term Sony fan, since all the way back with the PS1, one who was so loyal that my computer setup is all Sony. I must say my disappointment is immeasurable, the whole point of a console system is the hardware and the physical copies of games, that’s the whole purpose of picking a console over a PC gaming setup the physical easy to use controller and physical games. Without it your a PC tower with a shitty operating system. You talk about state of the art upgrades yet my phone has double the ram and way more processing power. Sony stocks are about to drop on launch for sure.

  • No disk drive! Stop trying to trick us into renting our games instead of buying? I like to buy and have the option to sell, gift, or give to charity what I don’t want. This idea of leasing of games on digital only machines is as much a con on ps as it is leasing films in a streaming service that can take then away at any point, and that you don’t ever actually own

  • People keep saying “buy a mid PC for that price.” I’ve looked at mid tier PC’s & those still cost around $1500 in my area. For everything in the PS5 Pro to only be $700 ($800 if you get the disk drive accessory), it’s not a bad cost even if it’s only as good as a mid PC cause it’s still cheaper than a mid PC.

I got a $1k PC last Christmas as a gift & the thing runs well for anything other than gaming. If I try to run a game it’s dog dodo. So I know the price for a gaming PC isn’t below $1k at the minimum unless you don’t mind crap performance.

While I don’t think I’ll be trading in my current ps5 for the ps5 pro, if anyone still hasn’t bought a ps5 yet then I say wait & buy the ps5 pro cause you’ll definitely be getting your money’s worth whether or not you buy the disk drive accessory (I’d buy it cause I prefer physical disks).

    • True, but you waste money on a subscription to play online, and also games are more cheap on PC. At the end, a PC gaming is better than any console.

  • Is this an out of season April Fool’s
    Joke?

  • no disk drive so 90% my game useless

    good job sony

  • A great idea especially if someone hasn’t taken it for 3-4 years, now is the right time.

  • Sony I really don’t know what to say at this point- and I thought things were bad with Jim Ryan! What is going on with you guys? Seriously, snap out of it.

  • Came here for the comments.

  • Sorry but if there is no gonna be a version that comes with the disc I’m not interested it has always been 599 for digital and 699 for disc this is a ripoff. If you guys going only digital I think is time to depart from PlayStation. If I can have a physical disc I don’t play it

  • Selling us what the base console was supposed to do for almost $300 more with a disc drive?

    You’re out of your minds.

  • At that price, everything needs to be running at 120fps.

However, No Disc = No Buy.

Here’s hoping they can deliver, otherwise I’ll just be happy with my regular ps5.

  • You mean to sell a 800€ console WITHOUT a disc drive?
I should not have to buy an additional peripheral just to get a basic commodity like a disc drive. You are literally selling a lesser product than my current PS5 by removing a feature I am using.
    Hard pass Sony.

  • Definitely picking the Pro up!

  • As usual I just see a bunch of poor people who complaining about the price which is the same thing everybody did and the PS5 was announced everybody complained about the $500 price tag and yet everybody bought it proof is the number one console being sold and here we are again people complaining and you’re still going to buy it might not be exactly when it comes out but you’ll buy it you always buy it’s what y’all do you complain on the internet but you always get it.

  • Playstation link built into the system and handled through the os?

  • I will buy it for sure. But you need to solve “STICK DRIFT” on controllers. Also, how some rich countries can compare with price in Europe for example. It can’t be same price for Germany and Turkey and Serbia… And by the end, irony is that the most cheapest will be in Germany :) Which have far better standards. I was excited, but presentation was somehow like it was made fast, without time to plan. Like you made it during the war in some basement :)

  • 700 dollars for a graphics upgrade and the disk drive comes separately. This sucks😭🙏

  • Really weird that AstroBot wasn’t prepared with a tiny something extra in store for PS5 Pro. Copium that we still dont have a PS5\PS5 Pro Bloodborne 60FPS patch.

  • The specs are all fine & Dandy, but riddle me this: If you haven’t developed that many “next Gen” games for the “basic” PS5, what games will “run better” on the PS5 PRO? PS still, this far out from the development of the PS5, hasn’t justified the PS5, so what justifies this insanely high price tag? Yes, as stated, the specs, if correct, are great but what will it matter if there aren’t any games made for it?? Is PS going to offer a “trade-in” program? Give me $300 or so on my PS5 and I’ll pay your Seven grand for the pro. Since that won’t happen, your huge price for the Pro, for what? Promises??

  • blowin it

  • Wow! All the features we were supposed to get with the PS5 but at twice the price! I still have the original PS5 box that says 8K and 4k@120. Now we get the honor of paying for the disc drive if we want to keep playing our physical games. Combined with Sony’s lack of refunds for PSN purchases, and the jacked-up PlayStation plus prices, we are getting an early X-mas gift this November.

  • Holy moly, the price..

  • yay, a new ps5 pro so I can play last gen ps4 games. PS5 promised 8K and 4K at 120. Let’s see what lies this one tells to make people buy it.

  • So what time do Pre-Orders go live?

  • Looks good to me! I’ll probably buy next summer when finances are better

  • You just had to fix the cpu (which already wasn’t that great for the base model) and you would have more than justified the 699 price point (which is discless on top) zen 5 is literally right there why would you avoid it

  • Now the debate of what monitors compliments this console the best. Please give a list of good options or info on if the m9 is perfect. Consoles were the cheaper option for good play. $1800 and you got it.

  • $700 & the disc drive & the stand are separate, two very basic items. Can I at least have direct access to the fan that doesn’t void warranty like my 6 year old PS4 Pro? Because if I can’t even access the fan for basic care & maintenance then I might as well get a gaming PC instead.

  • I look forward to PlayStation 5 Pro! Very exciting, despite the steep price.

  • Nishino-san, you completely missed the mark on this one. No one can justify this price tag. Even for the biggest fans. Especially for European markets.

  • Sadly, I’m saying no to this because if I compare this to a budget Gaming PC that can do the same thing, I prefer the Budget Gaming PC to the PS5 Pro.

    Pricing for Australia is
    PS5 Pro 2TB (Digital) – $1,199.95 AUD
PS5 Pro 2TB with Disc Drive purchased separately- $1,360 AUD

So would I want one down the road, no I wouldn’t one because we can already update the SSD in the PS5 which I’m looking at doing with an 8TB SSD M.2 drive next year because of the back-to-school sale. Not to mention I could buy a used car from Facebook Marketplace for either of the prices for the PS5 Pro

  • If I need to be honest,I prefer the design of the slim version. This one looks like the PS5 from the video of the future Sony™ console I watched when I was a kid.

  • sadly overpriced in Europe.

  • After you buy the stand and disc drive, you’ll have spent nearly $900 after taxes. The craziest thing was the presentation. The graphics didn’t look that much different, which is to be expected because you hit wall graphics quality. If I never see any side-by-side comparison and both are running 60fps (base model can in performance mode), it would be an ineligible upgrade. Regular gamers won’t notice or care. Sony should have put effort into a PS5 portable that doesn’t require streaming.

  • No disc drive included ? For sure a no buy for me.

  • Sony please review your prices I’ve bought every single PlayStation console, I really looked forward to the PS4 pro when it came out it was really good value for money the pricing was right but I just cant bring myself to spend 700 pounds on a console when your charging 700 USD for it too, there is no way you can’t afford to sell it for at least 600 GBP id even take 650, in my opinion even for Euros it should be 650 euros, I truly feel this will be your last Pro console because consumers are pushed to the edge of their finances and can’t even justify spending this money, I get Inflation but even that is not enough to justify this Price Strategy, 95% of my games are even Digital so having no disk Drive isn’t even. A big issue for me, I’ve actually been playing my PS3 More than my 5 Recently, I think as a company you need to start having a look at yourselves because this i Feel the next generation it’s going to be an xbox360 vs PS3 Generation again.

Please listen to your community, the last 10 years have been hard earnt, don’t waste it now because your competition isn’t keeping up, I’m a middle class earner and can honestly say untill I see a price adjustment I won’t be buying one sadly.

  • Extremely expensive and lacks a disc drive. I was sure that no matter what, I would buy the pro. How much more expensive could it be, I thought. And then I saw the price tag. Yeah…now I am sure I will not be buying it.

  • So its a PC then. Is this how you justify the PC ports, slowly turn the console into a desktop so you can put all games on pc day and date. I see what you are doing. You binned off the VAIO because it wasn’t profitable. Here it is now though all packaged up as a PS5. How the mighty have fallen.

  • Where is the rest of it? ;-)

  • No mention of PSVR2 in the presentation…and 799€ + 120€ Disc Drive + 30€ stand…makes 949€ for a mid-gen update console, that needs to be activated otherwise it won’t even work…

    …just like Concord a massive L.

  • I’m very excited for the PS5 Pro. I was hoping I could get a high end enthusiast level upgrade and PlayStation absolutely delivered, well worth price. Much bigger leap than the PS4 pro from the base PS4. I hope this trend continues with future hardware. Keeping making high end consoles and the enthusiasts will support you. Thanks

  • Exaggerated price. It should cost 800€ but already with a DVD drive. I don’t predict a sales hit in Poland.

  • GTA6?

  • Horrible price and design, compared to PS4 PRO back in the time. It’s close to the end of life for this generation cycle anyways.

  • I was going to buy one, but no disc drive? It’s $700 (add another $70 or more with tax, so $770). My original PS5 has a disc drive, so I purchased physical games for it. Now I have to pay another $90 (tax included, so we’re at $860!) and add some kind of unsightly, ridiculous external disc drive to play those games on it? This is bad. I wouldn’t have an issue with paying $750 even, it if it had the disc drive built in, vs a $700 disc-free version. Someone with some common sense at Sony please fix this. On top of that, if it doesn’t enhance Destiny 2 I won’t bother.
Also, I’ve sunk $600 into 3 Edge controllers, which are beginning to fall apart. The rubber handles are bubbling, and have began to come off. I contacted customer service, was given a ticket that I filled out, and was supposed to wait for a follow up to send it in. I NEVER got any follow-up, and I tried contacting them again, with zero response!! What’s really going on there?!!!

    • I want to also add, the reason I had to buy 3 edge controllers, is because 5 or 6 dualsense controllers I’ve owned all have stick drift!! It’s unbelievable, I have a box filled with like-new Dualsense controllers I can’t even use!

  • PS5 Pro €800 + Disc Drive €120 + Vertical Stand €30 = €950
I’m going to put it here for perspective, the minimum wage in Portugal is €820 and the medium wage is under €1500 and I honestly think that excluding a few EU countries the majority isn’t that far from us so you’re going to loose your biggest market. Lets face it, dispite you’re always doing everything to favor the USA, Europe has always been your biggest market and you’re on the verge to loose it. Hope that serves you well.
