Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • $649 would make much more sense, especially with the new 2TB Series X being $599 with extra terrabite in storage being the only upgrade. For only $50 more for the Pro you a consumer could easily justify the extra $50 dollar price tag with the GPU, ray-tracing, and AI upgrades over the Series X machine.

Dropping a $700 price tag has now taken away from the positive points like 4k 60, superior ray-tracing/lighting, and new AI/PSSR upscaling and now the only thing in the online space is negativity and angst due to pricing.

I am excited for the new machine and will hopefully be able to get mine day 1 to play some of my favorites this gen in 4k 60 but apparently my excitement has taken a backseat to all the pricing negativity.

  • I’ll get one when you release a model with a disc-drive that’s built-in & DRM-free.

  • DAY 1. LETS GOOOOO

  • I’ll judge when you guys get the Quality footage out there, we want to see the quality of PSSR for instance. these videos arent it, let us have an independent review like Hardware Unboxed or Digital Foundry have at it. The price is high technically but equivalent to a PC build, only difference is I love the simplicity of a console but my PC can do it all. PS should have done a better job at hammering home the quality of the upgrades and also with new games, hoping to see reviewers get a chance to show it off properly if Sony did a good job with PSSR and RAY TRACING.

  • That $700 price point is not appealing. Not sure how they came to the conclusion that the Pro should be almost double the price of the existing PS5.

  • Did someone double check the prices before releasing this? $699 and £699 is no where near the same

  • $699- no disc, no vertical stand?!? 😅 ouch!

  • This is indeed Sony’s most powerful and expensive console to date! 4K 60fps + Ray Tracing enabled! Need more PlayStation 5 Original IP’s.😉

  • Yes, this is Sony’s most powerful and expensive console to date! Anyway, we can run specific PS5 games at 4K 60fps + Ray Tracing enabled right? I bet this will cost beyond $1000 here in NZ. 🤣

  • PAYSTATION ONLY FOR THE PAYERS.SHAME ON YOU.

  • For 30 years of playstation, the day when the price of ps5 pro start kiling the console gaming.

  • Will existing console owners get first jump at pre ordering like what happened with PSVR2?

  • Looks like it’s a powerful machine and I’m definietly pre-ordering on 26 September. But presentation could have been much better, despite Mark Cerny’s clear explanation of new features, comparasions were not good and not convincing.

First of all showing the comparasions on small part of the screen is a terrible mistake, even after watching the video at 4K, I barely see a difference (I know, when I bought it and see it on-person, I will %100 see the difference but on presentation, it wasn’t). Also showing Last of Us Part II Remastered is bad mistake. Why are we seeing almost 5 years old game’s remastered’s improvment on latest hardware. If their hands are really tied and they aren’t allowed show direct comperasions like FF7 Rebirths terrible performance mode on PS5 vs PS5 Pro, at least they should have focused fully on Spider-Man 2, which is most recent PS Exclusive (Excluding Astro Bot)

Also it could have been much better with new game announcments or even announced game’s gameplay trailers would be just fine. It could have create much more hype. It shouldn’t be that hard to put a 15 seconds of Wolverine gameplay there, and than advertise it as like: Plays best on PS5 Pro. We know it’s early for GTA VI, I get it but even without GTA VI, this reveal and it’s marketing oppurtinity could have been managed better tbh. I’m really really really curios at what stage they will announce games like GoT 2, and next Naughty Dog game.

  • Bruh haven’t even gotten a normal PS5

  • The most powerful console in the world

  • not interested. not paying for ryans mistakes and this ain’t worth the asking price.

sony need to learn what the exchange rate is. 700 GBP is 850 dollars.

  • 🔥🔥🔥

  • I understand the higher price, but if the console is going to be $699, there is no possible reasoning to have it also £699. Just the conversion rate $699 = £534.26, obviously there going to be other costs as well, however, the ps5 released at $499 and £449. There is no possible reason for the ps5 to be more that £629, and I think £599 is the more reasonable pricing. This is all calculated with reaserch but obviously is still my own opinion, if you think otherwise please reply with your thoughts.

  • It looks like I’m selling my ps5 to get the pro that’s for sure day one for me

  • Is there a reason why it costs the same in USD as GBP?
There is over a $200 price difference when using a different currency…
    Maybe I’m missing something?

  • It looks like I’m selling my ps5 for the pro that’s for sure day one for me

  • $700? HARD PASS. I’ll keep my launch PS5.

  • This is incredibly disappointing. I preordered my PS4 at launch for $399. Years later I traded it in and day one pre ordered the PS4 Pro for $399.

Moving on I day one pre ordered my PS5 for $499. a small step up in price has to happen eventually, fair enough. My unit came with a vertical stand and a disc drive… now… the PS5 “PRO” has no disc drive or stand and costs $200 more than the base unit… so effectively we are talking about a $310+ difference between my launch day disc console and this unit fully equipped. A 62% increase in price. This is coming from someone who even day one bought a dualsense edge and I LOVE that product. It’s expensive but you feel like a “premium” customer when you buy it. everything you would ever need is in the box and it’s good to go. You feel like you are being treated with respect as the customer instead of being nickeled and dimed when buying a “premium” product.

    PS4 $400 –> PS4 PRO $400 = $0 A 0% increase
    PS4 PRO $400 –> PS5 $500 = $100 A 25% increase
    PS5 $500 –> PS5 PRO $700 = $200 A 40% increase
PS5 $500 (launch day disc drive with vertical stand) –> PS5 PRO (with disc drive and vertical stand) $810+ = $310 A 62% increase

If this was all in including a disk drive and a STAND for $699 that would be more reasonable. Even if there was an option for $749 with a dis drive and STAND it would be somewhat reasonable as its an all in one package.
This will likely be the first sony system I dont preorder, or maybe even order at all due to this… since I fell in love with the brand and community when I saved up for my first PS3 Slim in 2009.

  • This being $280 more expensive than the base console was at launch ($780 is the true price of the PS5 Pro since who’s going to buy it with no disc drive?) when the PS4 Pro launched at the base PS4’s launch price sums up how Playstation has fallen over the past eight years pretty well.

  • With a disc drive and stand you are all in $810. That is a $310 mark up from the PS5 Disc version. Absolutely wild.

  • welp F pc now ps5 pro lets goo time to put your primitive ways behind you an damn that pc initiative

  • ROFL, 700 dollars for a console with no 4k disc drive. Unbelievable. I’m telling you people, you better get with it and realize the future is PC gaming. Oh and I’m also telling you, right now, this thing isn’t going to deliver anything close to a night and day improvement. It’s why they’re not mentioning actual details.

  • Great rig, way overpriced but this console is out of my purchase cadence. Hit you guys up on the we’re sorry price for the PS6!

  • Sony DEAD that PC INITIATIVE ASAP

  • I don’t know whos running the show at Sony PlayStation but they are seriously out of touch with their core audience. Does anybody who works there actually play games?

  • I’m not sure whos running the show at Sony PlayStation but they have shown time and time again that they are increasingly out of touch with there core audience.
Guess its time to buy a PC.

  • Been a fan since PS1 and I believe this is my stop finally. I feel as though I have less reason now more than ever to stick with console gaming. I didn’t see anything about PSVR2 benefits or even further support for PSVR2. This is quickly approaching the $1000 range when I can’t think of a single reason why. The games these days are not groundbreaking and are held back not because of the limitations of a system, but lack of imagination or genuine creativity.

GT7 is the ONLY game that has truly satisfied me this time around because of the VR capability AND the fact it looks amazing out of VR as well. The idea that games could easily go from non-VR to VR was something I was looking forward to, and it really seemed like Sony was on track to provide such an experience across the board.

Yet, I am still waiting for some of the great PSVR1 experiences to appear. Wipeout, where are you?

I hope the general focus will change one day. A blend of creative games, new experiences and hardware that is impressive.

  • Why do players in europe need to pay €799.99 EUR. If you convert it to dollars it is 180 dollars more than the $699.99 USD. Must be a typo right?

  • It’s too expensive to buy a playstation 5

  • 5 years old hardware for $700? NO, THANK YOU. Time to go back to PC, I pay less for games and I don’t need to pay for PS Plus to play online.

  • Cant wait day 1 purchase

  • 5 years old hardware for $700? No, thank you. Time to go back to PC where I pay less for games, I have access to amazing mods, and I don’t need to pay for PS plus.

  • Ok, 700-quid for the discless console, that’s not too bad as I always buy digital now anyways.

But I need some confirmations before I go anywhere near parting with that much money for a console…

What new Sony first-party games are being developed SPECIFICALLY for the PS5 Pro…. not games being held back by the PS4.

And what will (if any) be the benefits for the PSVR2? Improved fidelity? Will GT7 come out of reprojection? Will there be more serious VR games, and less of the shovelware that is accruing?

And will PS-loyal gamers continuing in the PS eco-system be rewarded by getting the games they actually want…. ie, Astrobot VR, WipeOut VR, Ridge Racer.

Sony has been putting out some quality expensive hardware, but, apart from Astrobot, there’s been very few games – especially 1st-party games, that excite me and make me justify the £700 price tag for this.

  • Please upgrade these games for 4k/60 on pro:

    Bloodborne
    Arkham knight
    Rdr2
    Gravity Rush 2
    The order 1886
    Just cause 3/4

  • If the 2 TB model price is that high, you could have at least made a 1 TB model, and maybe make a disk drive model for god’s sakes.

  • Hello Sony bad idea. If you said 120fps or 140 fps ok but a smooth 60 really?? 2 tb ssd ?? A lil better cpu no disk drive. I mean instead upgrade ur digital game libraries. Then to add it on at extra cost disk drive. I’m sorry no one told y’all more graphic don’t mean better game play. SMH it ps2,3,4 had more features in games but less graphics and now game development focused on graphics go back to story. Hire some new blood. Give me rated adult only , not rated M and bet you get a billion dollars. Beat out the pc guys and give console players a world they gotta pay to experience.

  • You can whistle Dixie for 800 quid with no disc drive or stand! Hope you greedy pigs go bust!

  • The price is not the issue for me, but the lack of a disc drive is. I’d be buying it no question if it had a disc drive option, without a disc drive I will likely pass.

  • Since it’s original launch in 4 years there has been around 8 original games, not remakes, I’ll count sequels in that number and you want release a pro model? Maybe focus on improving what we have instead.

  • I’ll be honest it feels like Sony PlayStation is slipping back to PS3 launch days thinking they are too big for people not to buy their system and that we will pay any price. How can you be charging this much and not have a disc drive and stand which you get get with bast ps5 definitely moving backwards and getting too full of themselves again and I love playstation always have, but even first party games are lacking lately I don’t know what’s going on over there.

  • Huge fail on Sony’s part for this release. $700 AND no disc drive… Hard pass on that. I have purchased nearly every Playstation console to date, even the extremely overpriced 60gb FAT PS3. Maybe I could have stomached the price point if it had the disc drive, but you’re looking at $780 pre-tax to get the pro with ability to play discs, that’s absurd. What in the world were they thinking? Unless there’s some sort of crazy sale I’ll be waiting for the PS6 before buying another Playstation console.

  • I was excited but no included disc drive. Us physical collecting gamers are just an afterthought. Sad day for gamers.

Look at subscription prices going up. Once physical is gone and we are forced to only buy from the Ps Store. Get ready, your wallet is gonna be hurting.

  • Day one purchase!!!! I can’t wait!!
