Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • Would have like to get it, but its over what I was willing to pay for it. So this is a sales purchase for me if it drops in a year or two. This is the first Playstation console I have put a wait and see on my part.

  • Everyone is talking about the £700 and €800, but in smaller markets like Africa and South America we are already paying $900 plus for standard PS5. So with all the add on tax and whatever, that $699 will baloon to about $1200 to $1500…. and that is why we are the small markets because of the absurd entry price.

  • No, no, and no. Sony, you need to read the market. This was announced at the wrong time, and with an abhorrent price of £700. How can you think this was the right thing to do? This should NOT exist. This should have never been concieved in the first place. This is the PlayStation 3 at E3 2006 all over again. You learned from that with the PS4 and the fantastic PS4 Pro. But now we’ve come full circle.

To add to the issues here besides the price of this thing, some PS5 exclusives are also on PC. That makes the PS5 Pro less compelling.

The PS4 Pro came with everything needed. A great price, released at a good time when more 4K TVs were readily available, the price of the base PS4 was lowered, and with all the exclusives on the PS4 that were not on PC made it a truly great console.

The upgrades are one thing, but with it barely having enough upgrades that makes it compelling to upgrade from a base PS5, that also counts against the Pro. Many people are happy with the normal PS5s. It makes sense. The PS5 is clearly powerful enough to run the games we play today very well.

The PS5 Pro is a waste of time for most people. Yes, people can argue that it’s for enthusiasts that want the best out of their games. That’s fine. I’d have wanted one if the price was more reasonable. But it’s not.

I cannot recommend the PS5 Pro at all. It’s not worth the upgrade, and personally, I find it to be a waste of silicon and plastic.

P.S.: Shafting the UK and Europe again, and this time, Japan as well? I can’t imagine this going well for you.

Your greed knows no bounds. Shame on you.

  • Overpriced for starters and no disc drive without a separate purchase, I guess I’ll be focusing far more on my gaming PC instead. Sad days ahead for us consumers

  • Need a definite pre order date

  • 699 USD converts to 534 Uk pounds so I expected £549.99 price point but You guys are on crack, Pc seems better value at that price point, Uk paying over top again you never learned from PS3 ?

  • What’s the size and size with disc add-on? Spec sheet please!

  • I’ve had every console since PS1. Seeing as my PS5 recently died and Sony ask £200 for repair, I thought I’d wait and check what the Pro was priced. Think I’ll pass now on both the pro and the repair. UK price is inflated and it’s a joke that it’s around £165 more expensive than US in comparison.

  • Yall taking this sell less for more thing in the complete wrong direction. you haven’t even utilized the ps5 yet years into release most games people play are from the ps4 family. Now you remove the drive do what amounts to a minor over-clock and use basically a ai software that’s for some reason only possible to run on the pro and charge $700 pleasing investors will only get you so much down the road Sony. No one wants what I would call a mid refresh iPhone.

  • $700US for a disc-less console and the plastic stand is still “sold separately”??? You are out of your damn minds, Sony! Completely tone deaf to your customer base as usual. You’ve learned nothing from the PS3 pricing fiasco.

  • r exchanges possible

  • At $700 the disc drive shouldn’t be separate. Shame on developers constant attempts to make customers lease games. I have one of each gen launch PlayStations in my house and games to match. Long after you have decided to remove games from your service so they can never be played, I will still have them. I was looking forward to this machine, but I think I will be waiting until you are forced to lower the price or include the disc drive at no extra cost.

    Respectfully,
    A collector

  • If it were $599 with a stand and a disk drive, yes. If there was a Bloodborne 60FPS patch, yes. As is? No.

  • ps5 for sale time to buy a PC! £700 YOU ARE TAKING THE P##s

  • Why is it 699 usd and 799 eur when euros are already more expensive than us dollars????

  • If I unplug it accidentally, or the power goes out does it still need to do the database repair/safe mode or is that changed with the Pro? I’d love a version with the disc drive included. I had some sticker shock on the price, but I do like what I’m seeing.

  • This is my plan. Preorder from gamestop, trade in current ps5 for 350. End cost of just over 300 for a pro. Cmon who wouldn’t follow my plan..
If you notice Ganestop is offering up to near 400 for a ps5. Highest I have seen and it happens to be on the day the pro is announced…

  • Sorry but years ago we heard the same things for PS4 Pro too, we couldn’t play PS4 Pro enhanced games from high fan noise. Also this design is trash too, i expected completely different design.

  • I literally just spent almost 800 bucks on a ps5. Not spending anymore. My graphics are as good as they need to be. How greedy are you?

  • So they pretty much said nothing.

  • Is it me or were these “new features” held back all along?!?!?! This could have easily been included in the launch PS5

  • And I just ordered an Alienware Aurora R16 with a RTX 4080 Super ;-) $2399 ;-) LOL well …

  • Laughable pricing thats insulting to the entire EU region. £700 for something that’s still bottlenecked by the cpu, comes without a stand, & without a disc drive is a joke.

Nobody cares about or needs WiFi 7, & nobody needs 2TB as a default, especially people that already own the base PS5 & put extra storage in their systems.

You guys have seriously lost touch with your consumer base

  • I’ll consider it when the disc drive is pre-attached to the console. For now, I’ll wait for a proper PS5 Pro announcement, not that crippled one.

  • This is the biggest waste of money. $700 is insane for something without a stand which comes separately, oh and no disc drive with only 1TB of space. I’m completely satisfied with my og ps5 thank you very much.

  • Is Sony going to discontinue the ps5 slim when ps5 pro comes out or are they going to be both out at the same time

  • Is Sony going to discontinue the ps5 slim when the ps5 pro comes out or are they both going to be out at the same time

  • Sorry but years ago we heard the same things for PlayStation 4 Pro too, we couldn’t play PS4 Pro enhanced games from high fan noise. To be honest this design is trash too, i expected completey different design.

  • I’m not happy here, why does it cost over $1000 USD with a disc drive over here?

  • You know, I got my first PlayStation when I was just 4 years old with Spyro and Tekken and I’ve been somewhat of a loyalist ever since but…. I think I’m done. I was already jaded by the current Gen but decided “maybe the pro will knock my socks off”. I’ve yet to upgrade from the PS4 as I wanted the definitive PS5 but now I don’t think I’ll buy in at all. At the very least I was hoping for a disk drive and in a pipe dream I would’ve loved full backwards compatibility so I wouldn’t have to buy my PS4 games again that didn’t get the digital upgrade. Sony has been eager to bend its player base over since they first tried it with the PS3 so I can’t say I’m surprised just disappointed that they’d try again. Of course this is because they think I and other gamers and parents of gamers are idiots with no other options. I mean look at the Japanese pricing ffs. For my US Americans it comes to roughly $850.That’s their bread and butter market and it’s the highest in the WORLD because they can get away with exploiting them! It is only a matter of time before the sickness spreads (oh and btw they JUST raised prices on controllers too for everyone. Like yesterday.) I was already a hybrid player but it really looks like I’m switching to PC officially as my primary gaming medium.

Also, for those saying that this is the best you can get for the price point , I don’t believe that’s completely true. You don’t need a 3k graphics card, you can get them second hand if you were so inclined and they work great. People are ALWAYS upgrading their systems and your be surprised how many people want the latest and greatest and are willing to participate with their current gpus for an affordable price. You can get a pre built system and nowadays even gaming laptops run pretty decently (I have one that runs Elden Ring on High @60fps baseline. Was only a bit more than a PS5 PRO with a PS+ yearly subscription and a couple of games to put it in perspective). Also consider that you’ll save money on games as the sales tend to come about more often and deeper (or if you’re into more unscrupulous means….you can score them HEAVILY discounted*wink nudge*) and you won’t be paying for subscriptions to play online. You also won’t worry about backwards compatibility if you get a new system as it will most likely work. In these trying times, long term planning can save you a ton of money on this already expensive hobby.

Again I’m not a hater. Unfortunately I have very much bought into the PlayStation ecosystem and I’ve been here for decades but I’m not going to just let them wring me dry for diminishing returns year after year.

  • #1 MUST HAVE!!

  • No very dissappointed. OG PS5 nothing but 4k120 talks yet we had to settle with 30 fps games that devs are making way to demanding then needed. 60 fps performance mode that relies on AMD’s horrible upscaling. Yet again no 4k120 and rely on 60 fps games and charging PC prices??? SMH Need to tell devs stop making games for the future and make games for today. If they want to pretty up the game then do it when the tech makes it easier for them to make games look cinematic and the hardware can keep up.

  • Most gamers prefer a wired connection. Great that you have WiFi 7 support, but what we really need is a 10Gb Ethernet port!

  • No, the slim replaced the original PS5. They will be out at the same time. You won’t be able to get an OG PS5 though if that’s what you wanted.

  • Not including a disc drive at this price point is insane, regardless of the 2TB SSD.

MY PS Plus will expire in 1 more year and didn’t renew it when the price went up. Prices just keep trending up and up for either less games or worse quality games. I own a PC that I play different types of games on but I can easily transition to it as my main platform and Playstation is trying really hard to get me to leave.

  • So I gotta say I’m less than impressed. They seem like they did the bare minimum to get it to run at 60fps with higher quality graphics. The fact that this is selling for $700 with no disc drive and faster memory, but not more memory, and the same CPU makes this a pass for me. I’ll wait for the PS6 , which will probably be $1000 at this rate. Either that or they’ll just go straight to a PC and drop out of console manufacturer all together. I really was hoping for more.

  • I hope there will be a version with disk drive even at 900.
I really wanted to buy it but having a disk drive as a accessory it is not for me at all.
I don’t understand how a console that target hardcore gamer doesn’t come with a disk drive in the box. It doesn’t make any sense.

  • Cuál es la diferencia entre la Ps5 pro y la normal ?? Además de los gráficos

  • My comment mysteriously disappeared. No worries Sony I had a feeling lol. Repost:

  • Will it be able to run some games at 144hz?

  • Scares me how much the PS6 will cost now.

  • My comment mysteriously disappeared. LOL no worries I suspected this would happen.

  • I want this. I want to give you money for it. But can you, pretty please with sugar on top, include the vertical stand if it’s going to be $700. That’s a real cheap and desperate looking move there Sony. I love you guys so I got to give it to you straight, not a great look. So after buying the stand and disk drive it’ll be more like $800. You’re a multi billion dollar company, don’t nickel and dime me.

  • The price is very high

  • I will be buying it day one to add to my collection of entertainment options. I love the new features, performance and slimmer design. I wish the price was a bit lower but prices for everything is high now. :( I do love the Playstation 5, PSVR 2, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch OLED, PC monster, Oculus Meta Quest 3 and more. I just love technology and enjoy many options. Fun Fun Fun :)

  • I don’t agree with the price and no drive. I will not buy without a drive. Have to many disks and I won’t rely on digital delivery only. It’s been shown that things can be taken away to easy. Price is a bit high. I see in the comments people arguing it’s a mid tier pc at mid tier prices. That’s a low end priced pc that you don’t have to deal with windows drivers and that nonsense. Will have to think about it hard before buying. Not sure I would be getting enough at that cost. Also not a fan of keeping the physical design, but understand why. It was a bad design to begin with should have gone with a more pleasing look.

  • $700 USD and no built-in optical drive option, only an external for +$80. So so lame, Sony. Hard pass for me.

Make it play all the console generations games and I might consider it. I still have games on disc from every iteration.

  • Can you add an m2 drive to the pro like the base model
