Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • 600€ ok but 800€?!?! And no disc. So for what exactly should I pay that much???Sorry…. no interest

  • I’m not paying $700 for a console that’s barely an upgrade with no disc drive. Most of the games I own are on disc.

  • Hi – Would this mean a PS5 Pro using PSVR2 on GT7 produce a sharper higher resolution image compared to the original PS5🤞Thanks

  • That price is ridiculous. I have every PlayStation since the beginning, now with this pricing I’d much rather buy a PC bye Sony

  • Can’t justify the cost as I have a ps5 however I am waiting for another handheld I will throw £350 at

  • Nope! Buying a Mid level PC for that price. PC gaming is really getting better than consoles at this stage.

  • September 26th, I WILL be there

  • To be honest… Expensive.
The ssd size is raised to 2TB compared to the original 1TB, which a WD-black 1Tb ssd with heatsink is around 100 dollors msrp. That added up to the digital version to 550 dollars.
But is the upgrade in GPU worth 150 dollars though? I feel like this is the toughest part for me to justify. They could’ve just give us the disk version and the stand for this price point which is much more acceptable for this 700 dollars monstrosity.
I felt like sony have to release more samples of game playing to show the difference in GPU performance otherwise this is nowhere close to a normal deal.

    • Agreed!
Is it an upgraded version? For sure. Sony hasn’t showed the ins and outs yet, but surely it will be an improvement over the base PS5, but no drive disc and no vertical stand is a deal-breaker. The graphical upgrade must be INCREDIBLE in order to make it an acceptable deal.

  • I want to know if they are going to do a price cut on the original PS5? Also, when are they going to stop making the original. I was planning to get the original after Christmas.

  • For a $700 price point, I think we deserve an option of a disc drive console, an included stand, and full Backward Compatibility with all PS1, 2, 3, & 4 games. You will not be getting an upgrade from me at this point. If PS6 continues this nonsense of no disc drive included and the disc drives force initial online setup, then I will happily abandon PlayStation in the future.

  • lookin good, ofc it’s as soon as i pick up a ps5 skin tho 😂

  • 700 USD for a console without a disc drive is OUTRAGEOUS.
Sony is THE greediest company. I really thought Nintendo was the greedy one but god damn, Sony, you de-throned Big N. Congrats!

  • It looks amazing, but my PS5 is too amazing

  • PlayStation 5 Pro looks great, but shouldn’t it come with a PlayStation 5 pro controller for the extra Cost.

  • What a joke, It can’t even run GTA 6 at 60 fps yet they charging a quarter of the price of the original console 😂

  • astro bot are awesome game!
i buy this game for 72,44 dolars and I am extremely satisfied with it

  • $700? For a refresh of one of the most stale console generations? That’s a big no from me, dog. (Just go buy a PC people, this is stupid at this point)

  • Their should be a disc version out of the box

  • When do preorders start?

  • NVM, I see it now.

  • Absolutely absurd. I’ve been a big fan of Sony from the PS1 but you guys have completely lost the plot. I will just invest in a gaming PC and play your exclusives a year later there. See ya.

  • I am sad and disappointed …
The price is too high, I have to pass, especially since everything has to be bought separately.
This will be the first Sony – PlayStation console that won’t be part of my collection 🫨

  • Is the ps5 pro compatible with the already available disc drive and vertical stand?

  • If there’s a trade in for the PS5 I’d be happy to upgrade.

  • It would be more acceptable if this is a disk version with stand included in the package. 700 dollars for the digital version itself is just unacceptable. Not to mention the GPU upgrade at this point is like a myth that cannot be justify with its 150 dollars inflation.

  • Sony, long time fan here. How’s it going?
This is the worst decision you had ever made with this generation.

Was going to get the pro but ya lost me with It being discless and charging $700 at best.

If it came with the disc the price would’ve been maybe understandable but then again ya gotta make up for your failure of a game called Concord “LGBABC Shooter”.

Microsoft is dropping a 2TB series X with added features and priced at $599. $100 less than what you charging.

Guess I’ll be getting the upgraded Series X instead and sticking with my base PS5 and PS3 since ya too scared to let us download our purchased ps3 games or use our disc.

    Get better Sony.

  • I am sad and disappointed…
The price is too high, I have to pass, especially since everything has to be bought separately
This will be the first Sony PlayStation console that won’t be part of my collection 🫨

  • How out of touch are they? Holy crap. £825 to have it with the ODD and vertical stand, and it’s probably weaker than my 2020 PC with its 3080.

4 years after the PS5 launched, this thing should probably be costing about £500 with the ODD and cheap plastic stand included.
Also while the beefed up GPU will help, it’s still running the old Zen2 CPU with a tiny boost. They’re delusional.

  • So, with tax I’m looking at over $1,000 in Snow Pesos (aka Canadian Dollars) for a 45% increase in performance and no disc drive or stand included?

Sorry, Sony, you got me with the PS4 Pro, but not this time.

  • £700 is far to much for this, £500 would be a nice price point considering the lack of disc drive and the very small upgrades.

  • No disk drive, no Ps3 backwards compatibility, 200 bucks more that the PS5 at release. No thank you. Im sorry but Sony playstation is getting to early ps3 days of smugness. Ive been an OG fan of PS since 1997… this is just a smack to the face to gamers.

  • Between this lackluster “upgrade” and the stunt Sony pulled a few years back (“oh, by the way, those movies you bought and paid for? You don’t own them anymore..”) I’m not ever getting Sony again. Steam Deck has better specs, lower price, and is a dedicated gaming platform. See you all on Steam….

  • *WITNESS *PAY* UNLEASHED

  • Ludicrous pricing. That’s well over $1,000 CDN after tax. For those in the market for a console – not a PC – that’s absurd and way out of line.

  • 700 bucks? No thank you

  • What games are yall putting out that needs this? My regular PS5 runs Astro Bot just fine. Why would I pay 700 dollars for a system to run a bunch of cross gen games that also run on PS4? We’re four years into this console and I’m still playing games that run on PS4. I’d be a fool to pay 700 just to get a stable 60 FPS in my PS5/PS4 games.

  • $700 for 4K (Spectral Super Resolution)/120 FPS is cheap. I spend about $800 after selling my old PC Hardware upgrading every 3 years. GameStop gave me $400 for my PS5 making this upgrade $300. What’s the problem? If you saw how good AI Upscaling worked on PC with DLSS; in many cases making PC Games look better than Native Rendering you would understand how much of an upgrade this really is.

  • Why 700 dollars for the USA and 800 euros for Europe?! Why 100 euros more? If it is 700 dollars in the USA, why not 700 euros in Europe?! Why?!

  • Ola

  • As expensive and powerful this game console is, I still find it very offensive that the disc drive [which is not included with the base system] still requires an online activation just like with the slim model. I am a little late on saying this, but why not just have this verification system built in the system’s firmware instead of a server? I don’t think there’s enough gamers that really care about this problem since the internet is too important nowadays, but from a long term perspective, it poses as a major problem where other past consoles never had this problem. If this is the direction PlayStation really wants to go in as a way to ditch physical media and go completely all digital, these newer models should have never gotten a modular disc drive design at all. I really wanted Duke Nukem 5 to be made for the PS5 and give the legendary icon a proper final sendoff, but I’m not so sure if it’s even worth it anymore. PlayStation had nothing to do with Duke being left under the bus, that’s on Gearbox’s lack of interest in the franchise.

  • I still enjoy my PS4Pro since February 2017.Glad I didn’t upgrade all these 4 years ,cause apart from 3-4 games , I played everything I wanted during this “new” generation , on my 7 year “old” system. I was actually waiting for PS5Pro , but at this price ( 800€ discless !?! for ALL EU citizens is ridiculous ) I will wait further.Unless you add the drive & include a game/controller bundle at the same price , there is NO WAY I am upgrading before GTA VI release…

P.S. Adding 120€ for the official drive we are talking about 920€ in my country…

  • What games are yall putting out that calls for this? Astro Bot runs just fine on my base PS5. We’re four years into this console and we’re still playing games that are cross gen with PS4. I’d never pay 700 dollars for a stable 60 FPS machine.

  • ?????
    $699 in US
    €799 in Europe

You do know the EURO is currently more valuable than the USD right?

  • I love the new design but to me it doesnt seem like a big leap for this generation i will be sticking to my base PS5 but had the PS5pro launched with a new game and that detachable controller for that price yes i wud have thot abt buying but for now no thank you…Sony has to pull up its socks been a fan since i was a kid but now the other side is tempting…

  • for this price, the pro should have a disc drive, vertical stand, 2 dualsenses, the charging dualsense stand and a Pulse 3D. That would make sense for 699, it is an all in PS Ecosystem and it leaves room for people to upgrade to DualSense Edge and Pulse Elite. 699 for a console without disc drive and without a SKU for disc drive is too much :(

  • Wowser? £700 no disc drive ????
May be I’ll buy a pc and play all the games I want for free . What yea free . And we get robbed of £70 when you get people on pc playing them for nothing by copies or downloading them off a site so yea sony when physical copy’s come to an end on playstation that’s when game ends for me . Digital has killed everything from films to music sad really but I still have my collection of vhs and vinyl and playstation cds .

  • The PS5 Pro looks awesome, but I think pricing it between 650-699 euros would make it way more affordable. Plus, the disc drive and stand must be included in the box.

  • Clever wording. So it’s actually STILL not the 4K 60fps (at the same time) gaming experience we were led to believe we were getting with this generation of consoles. It’s a minor “upgrade” for significantly more money, no disc drive, no mention of updated dualsense controllers with better batteries and better quality analogue sticks. Who is going to buy this?! Certainly not me.

  • Yum yum! Give me some! When can I pre-order!
