Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

Features including GPU upgrade, advanced ray tracing, and PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution take players to new heights.

UPDATE: On September 26, 2024, pre-orders will be available directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com and at participating retailers in territories where direct.playstation.com isn’t available. On October 10, 2024, pre-orders will be available at all other participating retailers.

Over the last four years since the launch of PS5, we’ve worked hard to continuously evolve the console experience and deliver the great games our players expect from us. Today, I’m incredibly proud to announce the next step in that evolution and welcome PlayStation 5 Pro to the PlayStation family – our most advanced and innovative console hardware to date.

Welcome PlayStation 5 Pro, the most visually impressive way to play games on PlayStation

We developed PS5 Pro with deeply engaged players and game creators in mind – as many have asked for a console that runs even higher fidelity graphics with smoother frame rates at 60FPS. We achieved this on PS5 Pro with several key performance features.*

  • Upgraded GPU: With PS5 Pro, we are upgrading to a GPU that has 67% more Compute Units than the current PS5 console and 28% faster memory. Overall, this enables up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay, making the experience much smoother.
  • Advanced Ray Tracing: We’ve added even more powerful ray tracing that provides more dynamic reflection and refraction of light. This allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.
  • AI-Driven Upscaling: We’re also introducing PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an AI-driven upscaling that uses a machine learning-based technology to provide super sharp image clarity by adding an extraordinary amount of detail.

PS5 Pro provides gamers with amazing graphics at high frame rates. You can hear Mark Cerny, lead architect for PS5 Pro, discuss the key innovations from PS5 Pro in the following video presentation. This presentation provides a deep dive into the key performance features that make PS5 Pro truly special.

Other enhancements include PS5 Pro Game Boost, which can apply to more than 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games playable on PS5 Pro. This feature may stabilize or improve the performance of supported PS4 and PS5 games. Enhanced Image Quality for PS4 games is also available to improve the resolution on select PS4 games. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported.

It’s humbling to see how game creators have embraced the latest technology from PS5 Pro, and several games will be patched with free software updates for gamers to take advantage of PS5 Pro’s features. These games can be identified with a PS5 Pro Enhanced label within their title. Some games you can look forward to include blockbuster hits from PlayStation Studios and our third-party partners, such as Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Demon’s Souls, Dragon’s Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Gran Turismo 7, Hogwarts Legacy, Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, The Crew Motorfest, The First Descendant, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, and more.

We kept the look of the PS5 Pro consistent with the overall PS5 family of products. You’ll notice the height is the same size as the original PS5, and the width is the same size as the current PS5 model to accommodate higher performance specs. Players can add an Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive, or swap out console covers when they become available.

PS5 Pro fits perfectly within the PS5 family of products and is compatible with the PS5 accessories currently available, including PlayStation VR2, PlayStation Portal, DualSense Edge, Access controller, Pulse Elite and Pulse Explore. The user interface and network services will also remain the same as PS5.

The PS5 Pro console will be available this holiday at a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $699.99 USD, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY (includes tax). It will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase. PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.

PS5 Pro will launch on November 7, 2024 and will be available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation at direct.playstation.com. Preorders will begin on September 26, 2024.

Our PS5 journey would not be possible without the millions of players that have supported us through the years and have shared with us their love of gaming. Whichever console option players choose, whether it’s PS5 or PS5 Pro, we wish to bring everyone the very best gaming experience that fits their needs.

*Features only available on select PS5 games that have been enhanced for PS5 Pro when compared with the PS5. PS5 Pro enhanced features will vary by game.

  • At least that’ll be cheaper than buying a good gaming PC. But not by too much :/ …

  • $700??? Really??? You should have known better than that nobody can afford it at that price. Many PS fans like us have supported you for years and years to the point that you got too greedy with prices which made us lose faith in you. You better cut that price down to $500 like it was supposed to be and cut the price down on the original PS5 and PS5 Slim to less than $400 to justify the fair market prices. If you don’t do something soon, your quarterly sales and profits won’t be that great. Sorry, I’m just telling you the facts about how greedy you have been lately.

  • 700 USD. What a joke!

  • Oh my lord! Thank you Sony. This will be mine day 1! I love the Pro consoles (PS4P was great too).

  • The Disc drive need to be included for that price!

  • It’s fine if it’s expensive. There will be people who can afford it. But the real question is whether it’s worth it, especially just for timed exclusive.

  • Might hafta cop one fr but there’s gotta be good games coming soon 🤷🏾‍♂️

  • I’ll consider if there are any meaningful improvements for PSVR2.

  • Sony in with the L

  • Lol, this price is insane! €800,- is not affordable for the current gamer, people can barely pay for their rent/gas and you’re charging €800 for an upgraded console. Sony, you should be ashamed of yourself!

  • Sorry Sony, I’ve been holding out on the PS5 generation for a Pro model, but £699 just ain’t it.

At most I was expecting it’d be £579 for the Digital Edition and £649 with the disc drive, and that was (optimistically) including upgraded storage too.

Unless we see some permenant price cuts before this launches I can’t see myself ever upgrading to PS5.

  • Dear Sony,

We need games, not new hardware! Really, trust me bro.
Why should I be getting a new console, which seems massively overpriced, buy a disc drive, because you don’t include it, just to play the games that I have already played?!

I’d have loved that R&D money to have gone to an actual studio making actual games. But not your latest live-service experiments, please keep that contained in your studios!

  • The standard PS5 already has amazing graphics in performance mode and it’s a very capable machine. I’m not buying a PS5 Pro to improve lazy developers game performance and graphics like FF16, FF7 Rebirth, Black Myth Wukong, and Hogwarts Legacy. These have terrible performance modes and it’s 100% due to poor development.

There are plenty of beautiful games with excellent performances that proves the standard PS5 capabilities like Demon’s Souls Remake, God of War Ragnarok, Spiderman 2, Horizon Forbidden West, Stellar Blade, Lies of P, Elden Ring, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Dead Space Remake, Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart etc. These all have beautiful performance modes.

Developers should put out better performing products and not let us get more powerful hardware to compensate for their poor products.

  • £700 with no disk drive HARD PASS only a fool will buy one

  • Yeah, this is ridiculous.

    699$ for more promises of 60 – 120fps?

We heard this same speech in 2020 with the original PS5. I WAS EVEN TRICKED into buying a PS5 instead of a PC.

I WONT BE FOOLED AGAIN. At around $800 after taxes? No thank you. This time I’ll use the money I save for a PC actually capable of running games at high frame rates.

  • Sony has the right to price it however they like, but not having a disk drive SKU is just a waste of everybody’s time and resources. The enthusiast market that will buy these largely already has a collection of ps5 discs. Besides the unnecessary packaging, what are the chances that people can’t get a drive at launch, or a flood of base ‘digital’ ps5s end up on the market with mismatched plates?

    It’s a €920 euro console.

  • No disk drive or stand included at this inflated price is ridiculous. Arrogant Sony is back in full force.

  • Sony how can you do something like this? Not only make that ridiculous price tag but make it digital only with a separate charge for a physical drive? All these specs were mentioned for the PS5 years ago and now it’s actually happening for a whopping $700?! For the first time since PS1… I will not buy your console. And I am sure a ton of gamers won’t.

  • So the mid-gen upgrade costs literally double:
Ps5 Digital Edition was 400€, disk Edition 500€.
Ps5 pro digital is 800€, disk edition 920€ (with an external drive).

Add 100€ as the cost of the yearly subscription with the game library, and the fact that that games cost 10-20€ more in the ps store, when compared to steam.

You actually really can get a competent gaming pc for cheaper nowadays.

  • Pro: £700
    Stand: £25
    Disc Drive: £100

£825 for a mid-gen refresh. The PS5 launched at £450 with the stand and the drive. (Not to mention, they’ve already increased the prices of games, controllers, and subscriptions this generation.)

    👏👏👏

  • It’s so pretty + 2TB drive space that’s awesome. I will be buying for sure.

  • Stupid.

£300 more than digital version, for a console that promises to do what the PS5 originally promised to do. Ps5 never reached it’s maximum output, due to everything needing to be made for the last gen too… And now nothing on Pro will maximise output because you have to make it for the standard console too.

Then you’re basically telling physical media collectors to go **** themselves, and you have to BUY an external drive, for another £100. Meanwhile, digital games on your storefront are still always max RRP and sometimes £15 more than physical, with no resale value and never actually owning them (if they get pulled from your store and we want to download them… Tough), it’s just super scummy. You’re killing console gaming. You’re asking £800, for a console, whilst you still have a console that is hindered by supporting the older gen and even when it gets exclusive games, it never feels maximised.

I have owned every Playstation console on day one, including the pro upgrade last gen. This time I’m skipping it.

I fully expect this to be the last gen, as it’s getting prohibitively expensive with these mid gen upgrades, which cost a fortune for what you call 67% improvement but genuinely very few people will even notice a 10fps jump, or slightly higher resolution on their 4k game from the previous 2180p upscaled image.

I’m a console gamer, I don’t want ultra graphics that make it look like I’m walking in a TV show, so don’t expect the equivalent of an RTX 3090 in my console. I want a console that makes me games look good… But more importantly, delivers games I want to play, that are launched without 700bugs because they’re rushed out and not optimised properly. I want first party quality games, I want a console to feel like it’s the best place to play my games because it’s got games I can’t play anywhere else.

But does playstation offer that now? Incredibly expensive console, that will never compete with PC. But here it is, trying it’s best, charging more and delivering less (again, the removal of physical drive is absolutely ridiculous) and is currently outputting a low level of first party software, whilst running up costs of hardware, and still not delivering on it’s fans requests such as PS1/2/3 support for back catalogues, because it’s better to make emulated versions and hide them behind a paywall on ps+ instead of letting people use their physical media

  • Esperando con ilusión la ps5 pro, para pagar 800€en Europa, pondré un poco más y me paso a PC

  • Almost CAD1000 with no disk drive. This will fail spectacularly.

  • Also, since you seem to be incapable of doing this. Dollar and pounds are not interchangeable. $700 is £535, not £700.

May as well just import it. Since they’re region free anyway, but then no doubt you’ll find a way to charge us for that and suddenly lock them

  • I’ll wait and see how the games will actually perform after the Launch. I am interested,…but gotta wait and watch How it turns out overall!

  • Took me THREE YEARS to buy a ps5, not because of pandemic shortage but because I had little faith in it, and I guess I was right. Almost a year after I bought the ps5 I regret it and I’m willing to sell it because, no exclusives, heck no games general. The exclusives made available on PC, why would I want a console after all, better go on pc which I’ll be better served.

This is the newest low for sony, not even the ps3 got this low.

  • I don’t care about the price, but will this be available is UAE, asia pacific anytime soon, or are third class tier

  • Yes it does cost a little much but as far as the technological aspect, it’s a big deal and I will buy one regardless. I wouldn’t be surprised if the price changes hense why it says manufacture suggested.

  • Firstly: Far too expensive Sony! FULL STOP

Second: Why should I play the old games that all gamers have probably already played? WTF!!! Where is the incentive to buy the PS5 Pro? Just to play quality mode again at 60 FPS? Seriously Sony?

Third: Why without a disc drive? Separately it costs 120 euros… What should those who already have a disc collection do? So pay 1050 EUR for a bit of an upgrade even though I can have the whole thing used for around 350 euros… hahah that’s crazy…

Fourth: I will NOT BUY the PS5 PRO!!!

  • $700 with no Disc drive?

  • I don’t care if I gotta pay 700 plus the stand plus the disc drive IF IT HAD FULL BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY. Can’t even add that everyone knows that’s we want and been waiting for.I apologize for the workers who put time and effort into IT but in all honestly I don’t care about the 1/10 upgrades it has. Give us something we all want and been waiting for FULL BACKWARDS COMPATIBILITY

  • Does the PS 5 Pro have a redesigned cooling system? Or will it burn out like the rest?

  • I wish the regular ps5 had those specs. Always having to choose between mode sucks. In Canada it probably be around 1000 without the disc drive. I’m not going to spend that much for something when in a few years you will probably launch the ps6 which I will not mind that much for a higher price. Lastly, we don’t know anything about the new games coming from sony that will take advantage of the new hardware.

  • #PS5ProIsAJoke

  • I know I’m getting it, I just wish a disc drive came standard. I’d take that over Astrobot installed since I already have the game. I know they’re trying to cut costs by having one SKU, but still – bundle it please.

I would like to see the SPECs though. Is it still 120hz max?

  • The excitement I had for this, and my urge to buy it, was immediately killed with no disc drive option and no vertical stand, in addition to the price point. The stand that comes with the PS5 currently allows it to be used for horizontal and vertical action. How on earth is that not possible for a stand for the PS5 Pro? And of course the console is designed to require a stand, which is ridiculous on its own. The stand was provided to reduce this pain point. Why would we be charged now??

I absolutely do not buy disc-less consoles. I use discs constantly, both games and movies. It’s my main media source. I would not change that at all.

In this economy, there is no way I can swallow that $700 USC price point. I won’t be going to Xbox or PC but there’s no chance I’ll be getting the Pro in its current offering. I’m so very disappointed.

  • Im a bit disappointed, you are paying a lot more for LESS.

At least include the stand, the disk and the new Astro Bot game rather than the old 4 year old Astro Playroom… come on. This is a bad VALUE, or at least include a 1 year PS Plus Premium or something…

  • I know I’m getting it, I just wish a disc drive came standard.

I would like to see the SPECs though. Is it still 120hz max?

  • I hope it sells a bunch, best of luck!
Personally I don’t see a reason to upgrade, not for $950 CAD +tax.
Maybe if it included a Dualsense Edge…and Astrobot rather than Astro’s Playroom.

I’m curious though how much the stand-alone disk drive will be, because as it stands, I don’t know many folks (in this economy) in my Canadian gamer circles who will be willing to fork out more than a grand for the PS5P + more $$$ to play their current disk based games.

I’ll be there day 1 for PS6 though, until then, best of luck. 👍

  • That is insane. $700 PS5 Pro + $80 disc drive + $10 vertical stand is almost $800 plus tax!

No thank you. I have a base PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X that work just fine.

  • 700 dollars is terrifying.

  • Terrible! Seven hundred dollars, no disc drive, no vertical stand, and your talking about playing PS4 games!? From the people who spent millions of dollars on Concord.

  • What a joke. Why on earth would you not include a disc drive at that price?

  • In my country it will cost us 1000EURO, no thanks SONY PS

  • Awesome intro vid by Mark C! Thank you.

  • I was thinking of buying it but now with the price $699.99, nah and i got buy the disc drive as well that might be 199.99 nah dude im good ill buy a pc instead

  • I’m so excited day 1 baby

  • This is bananas. Sony’s strategy and direction just doesn’t appeal to me at all any more. I’ve let my decade-old PS Plus sub expire and I’m moving away from PlayStation, sadly. Clearly, Sony are repositioning console gaming as an high-end exclusive/elitist pursuit.

  • No mention if current M.2 SSD used in PS5 will be compatible with PS5 Pro. I’m assuming “Yes” and hoping that’s the case.
