However, PlayStation Plus members who have already purchased any edition of Black Desert other than the Traveler Edition may redeem the standalone Traveler Item Pack from PlayStation Plus, instead.

  • September is an utter miss for Sony. Dogpiling because it feels necessary as it’s clear Sony does NOT listen to consumers unless things are dire—the extra and premium games this month ought to be new/recent AAA titles if they intend to recover from this embarrassment.

  • Not going to renew the subscription, going to play online games on my pc. I would stay if they give something in return for the increased price. Give a lower tier for just online play.

  • Over 1000 comments of pure fury and disappointment. Holy…

Well done this time, Ryan, very well done.

  • What is Sony offering other than low budget games for PSN essentials? $40.00 for the same old thing? I’ve been a customer over a decade.
    I canceled my subscription.
    Change my mind.

    • I am on the same boat, PS Plus essential should remain the same as they offer the same crap is needed to play online for most games. extra and premium if they went up and not essential i wouldnt complain but ps plus essential going up, upsets me as well

    • The juice is not worth the squeeze for the Essentials price hike, in my opinion.

Sony may as well remove the free games it offers at the Essential level and dip the cost down between 20 to 30 dollars a month for online and cloud backup access only.

  • Wow really? A price increase? Congrats, I’ve officially canceled my plan. That was a real move

  • You trying to get people to cancel their subscriptions? Because it’s working, just cancelled mine

  • Sony need to change Jim Rayan because he
is bad, yesterday i buy xbox with game bass because i don’t want to wait every 6 months to have a good game on PS subscription

  • I cannot defend that price increase even if I was a fanboy. I enjoy my plus plus quite a lot but I cannot get behind that price hike.

Who thought it would be a good idea to price hike while talking about quality, then go and give us a game that flopped so hard the company behind it got shut down?

    Talk about self assassination.

  • You can keep Saint Row woke edition, Sony. Thanks!🤮

  • new price is live

boycott ps plus now and cancel ur ps plus

  • I had already decided that the Play Station Plus Premium was too expensive when I renewed just before the price hike announcement. Now I’m finding out that Essential is barely adequate. I won’t be renewing next year unless they reverse this price hike. I hope there are enough people outraged to actually cancel their subscriptions and show Sony this was a bad idea. The smart business move would have been to lower the prices and get more subscribers or add more to the lower tiers to make the price worth it.

  • If all live service games they said are coming. including the 3 announced, Concord, Fairgame$ and Marathon come to psplus owners at no extra cost. I can see why they hike in price for the services from a business standpoint. Also, being included in PS Plus could reach a wider audience within PS users. Essential should remain the same price since players mostly have it to play online. Im not gonna cry about the increase yet but something needs to change or improve soon.

    • I understand what you are saying; the price hike is for the upcoming services and games. However, Marathon has no release date and is estimated to launch in early 2025. Sony could have waited until September of 2024 to raise the price of the PS plus memberships.

Players could be paying these higher prices for 1 to 2 years or more before they see any “improvements” in games and services. This price hike feels like “taxation without representation”.

Hiding the price hike under the monthly game announcement was a poor decision; it should have been it’s own news article. This is what burns me the most.

  • Signed up for this blog just to say that this a major playstation L. You raise the prices of ps plus and the first game we get after hearing this is a reboot of a game that was so bad it’s company is now being shut down. This is downright disrespectful to us as fans

    • Oh, and whats worse? They don’t even offer a plan that just gives you online multiplayer access with a back up save file online.

You can save everything through a USB drive and offer and even cheaper plan without save file online back up and just multiplayer but nope, they pad everything into their subscriptions.

    • Oh, and when they gave everybody else information, third-party outlets about the price. You only had about five days to renew at the exact same price so they preemptively stop people from renewing an extra year at the reduced price. Talk about anti-consumer.

  • $250nzd now for a year of PlayStation Plus Deluxe. That’s disgusting. Happily cancelled.

    • Yep, I’m out too. Awful move by Sony, just Greedy and ignoring their customers, many of them loyal. Can’t justify renewing. Extra & Premium games released today and they’re TRAAAASH!!

  • In Canada the Premium Package will now cost me $218.47; This is. I will not be renewing my subscription or if I do it it will be for the Essential Package and even that will cost me $109.99. This is just pure CORPORATE GREED.

  • Impressive. I’ve been a Plus subscriber since the PS3 days. Seen all the “wow, this month sucks!” comments on every monthly blog post.
You’ve finally made a month that truly sucks. I’m not paying 50% more on my subscription. Goodbye.

  • We need to send a clear message to Sony that what they are offering is not what we need. Keep it simple, 100% off gamers only want online access. If everyone cancels their subscriptions that will be the only way they’ll listen. Letting my sub expire in 5 days #boycottsonyridiculouspricing

  • This price of PS Plus is hilarious imho, for that what i get. The monthly games are all not my favs.
Fun Fact – i ordered a 12M PS Plus Essential @ Amazon, which is in fact only a 60€ Card.

I don’t want to pay for stuff i don’t want / use. PS Plus Abo is canceled now.

Will use my money only on Steam.

    Great Job Sony

  • Lets hope the price increase results in better monthly content.

  • I will not pay that so I’m leaving PlayStation hard for me but needs must.
If I was to pay that price then what’s next, others will pay as you well know but I won’t, selling my ps4 today, and when subscription is done ps5 sold and no more gaming just real life.

    Stupid Sony stupid boy.

  • Up for renewal in January. I won’t be renewing any subscription.

  • Insulting games followed by a price increase. Who makes these decisions and why do they still have a job there.

  • More and more greedy and trash.

  • Trash heaped on top of trash

  • 20$ more for the year!?!? 80$ total! For what!? Whats new!?! You guys still diddnt update the PS5 to give me access to the wallpapers I paid for off the ps4 to usw on my ps5, also took away my custom profile pics and moto in there!? ps5 is lacking…and Gen Zero has already been a free game of the month around the time of its release why is it again?? Higher quality free games please (BAD WORD CENSOR) ME!

  • You have been bringing trashier games every month and claim the price increase is to bring more quality games? Lol wut?.
This month was a failing mmo, trash swedish game, and a crap reboot so bad the studio literally got shut down permanently. What quality!

  • Approximately 33% increase! Specifically, I would like to know how they justify this. What I’ve seen so far is generalities like “high-quality games” and better benefits. Which games and how are the better? What benefits?

    • They justify it because they’re fully aware people wanna access multiplayer, so they increase the price of everything to force you: if you’re with us, in our system, even if you’re not using the monthly game but only want multiplayer too bad! pay up or get out! That is basically what they’re saying. Lord forbid they offer MP access only. I bet you if they did it would be $60 a month. lol

    • Based on this month’s lineup, I wouldn’t be surprised if “higher quality games” means DmC: Devil may Cry

  • I’m surprised this is a PlayStation blog. You guys don’t bother advertise the price increase but I did get a nice email and heard from third-party sources close to two weeks ago.

Why don’t you actually give us a plan for online multiplayer and backup online save ONLY? Since I started paying for it yearly all the way from the very beginning, I’ve only downloaded two games: one played for 15 minutes and the second one. I ended up buying a copy (Stryder) because I liked it. it seems idiotic that you don’t offer a basic plan without the free game.

I buy every single game I want between 1 to 3 months on release. And if I like the game enough the DLC. I have zero use for the free game monthly and I shouldn’t have to be forced into that plan for a feature I don’t use.

  • I’ve been a PS Plus subscriber since day one, when you made us pay to play online I was mad but i dealt with it. This latest price increase to $80 is unacceptable. I have already canceled my subscription because of this move. You gave no increase in value or service but think you deserve more. I will not tolerate having my money squeezed from my wallet, just for basic online functionality, so your CEO can get another raise. I won’t even buy digital or new games from Sony after this, pre owned only. Whoever thought this up should be fired as you lost me, a lifetime Sony bro, perhaps for good. Undo this decision. NOW.

  • Do like I have, go into your subscription and cancel it. It still runs to the day you have it paid up till, but will show them your not happy

  • Ahhhh, now your filthy PS Plus cash grab makes sense. Sony is facing a $6 Billion dollar lawsuit in the UK for overcharging digital game sales. You’re literally trying to offset your legal expenses and possible loss in court by dumping that expense for your own terrible business practices on to the consumers back.

  • I know Sony doesn’t bother reading these comments because if they did the we wouldn’t get over constantly. I was nice when they removed PS Now and forced me to pay double to receive those benefits and then I took the chance on Premium only to see basically everything is stream only but NOW this price increase? I’m gonna let my subscription expire and switch to PC or maybe X Box since with Game Pass we get to play new games. Sony acts like Game Trials are luxurious when it’s. I’ve been a PS guy since the original but not anymore because it’s nothing but greed with this company, how about making a tier for just PS Extra? I don’t want muliplayer, but I’m forced to pay for it. You have helped me make up my mind and never buying a PS5.

  • Funny how every time I mention the $6 Billion lawsuit Sony is facing in the UK for overcharging digital sales, my comment disappears. Moderators earning their pay today. Also funny how you think I’m going to pay your legal fees with this PS Plus price gouging tactic. Lifetime Sony fan lost. Canceled my subscription. I’ll be buying a PC and game pass next payday. What a small brain move Sony.

  • such a crazy 25% price increase🤯. I am very unhappy about it😞. instead of trying to make customers happy. so they do the complete opposite🤦. betraying customers like this. it will drive a lot of people away to the competition.

  • Such a steep price hike for “higher quality games” the same month that you might as well have DmC: Devil may Cry as one of the free games? Yeah I knew I heard my old GameCube calling my name.

  • This is crazy sony really disappointing just like everything else you all have been doing! Selling my ps5 and buying a xbox asap because they don’t charge a crap ton of money and actually have awesome games on there game pass! Nothing but disappointment from sony lately I’m sure everyone in the community can agree.

  • I’ve been looking forward to a price increase for sometime now. Always felt I was getting more than I was paying for. Thanks for finally letting me feel like I’m not taking advantage of sony.

  • Boycott ps plus!!! Cancel your subscription!!!

  • These are realy very bad games plus you go ahead with the price increase.Greed is a deadly disease..Sony you have outdone yourselves I wish you all the best.

  • Here is my suggestions regarding the PS+ pricing:

The online aspect adds lots of entertainment to Bloodborne and I’m devastated by the ridiculous price increase on PS Plus Essential.

It’s a shame less people will play Bloodborne online in the future when many soulsgames-players PS+ subs has lapsed. I never play online except occasionally in soulsgames.

I want Sony PlayStation to consider this new PS+ tier I made up:
    Name: PS Plus Basic
Monthly Price: 3-5 USD/EUR/29-49 SEK Features: Online Play support. No free monthly games. Online backups would be good but not necessary for me.

Another option could be 24h PS+ Basic online tickets for 1 USD.

I don’t like the fact that Free To Play games have free online while paid games requires PS+. Suggestion: All current Free To Play games will stop running without a PS+ subscription, thus Sony has the chance of getting much more revenue from players currently only playing F2P games without paying for PS+.

  • PS Plus new Canadian top tier price is now $189.99?! I’ve been a loyal PlayStation supporter since 1994 but now I’m canceling all active subscriptions & switching to PC or XBox since Sony DOES NOT care about it’s user base. The prices before the increase was barely worth it as is with a library consisting of titles from 2 generations ago. I’m done with the BS treatment.

  • @Ryndarin
    Citation:
“The juice is not worth the squeeze for the Essentials price hike, in my opinion.

Sony may as well remove the free games it offers at the Essential level and dip the cost down between 20 to 30 dollars a month for online and cloud backup access only.”

    ☝️Exactly! I agree with this!☝️

  • @Ryndarin

I agree that Sony should remove the free games it offers at the Essential level and lower the fee to between 3 to 5 dollars a month for online and cloud backup access only.

Remove free online for F2P games and work towards having the players who play online the most actually pay for it.

The Premium tier just needs more interesting legacy content from PS1-3 to be interesting.

As for me, a PS+ Indies where you get 1-3 good indie games every month including new indie games would be great to compete with other companies options. Try to work towards making sure the competition doesn’t get long exclusivity deals on Indie games. Sony should work more towards supporting indie games and makimg it easier for them to release their games on PlayStation platforms.

I’m planning to switch to Steam Deck in the future but I would stay in the PS ecosystem if indie games had better support with more game settings in each game (FOV, resolution, framerate, motion blur, AA, move/view sensitivity etc.).
PS4 indie games which have bugs and lack of settings (Lonely Mountains: Downhill) on PS5 but perform better on low end PC makes me consider moving towards Steam.

    • Hmm..

The issue with removing F2P games is that Sony makes money from them because the game companies pay a fee to have those games there. F2P players pay for in-game purchases; they also pay for the add ons and DLC’s that are in the PSN store, which I am sure Sony makes money off of and would not want to lose that revenue.

Free to Play games generate a profit for all platforms while expanding their player communities. This model makes gaming more accessible to families and casual players. It would be difficult, if not careless, for Sony to get rid of the F2P model at this point, especially when other platforms offer it and are making money from it.

As far as having access to older games, both of the higher tiers should have access to them, and the highest tier should have a permanent 10% discount in the PSN store. So, when there is a sale, the highest tier can enjoy that extra percent discount on top of the regular discounts. Of course, this is just my opinion.

I plan to just stay with offline games for the most part (unless I can play online for free). I have many legacy consoles/games and a PC with games to keep me occupied as well.

As I have stated before, it will be interesting to see what happens at the end of this year and throughout 2024.

  • i want to sell my ps5 and buy a graphic card greedy sony bobs. next year im play on pc again

  • why i can play with my friends on pc without any cost. but sone want 100+ euros in a year rofl.

  • sony scam für cloud safe files. on pc its free. scam bobs

  • sell ps5 in germany, please message me

  • Its time Sony offers a much cheaper sub option that just offers online play.
“free” games isn’t why i need online.
So many of the “free” games are just trash and i prefer buying the games i like anyways.

Give us a cheap option to play online Sony.

  • Where’s that one fanboy?

  • Sony is drastically out-of-touch with its fanbase if they think this price increase is logical.
Get your collective together. Sony has a comparatively small market share for online gaming services.
One sure way to kill off the smaller community is to “up-the-ante”… no RvR here.

Sony needs to either justify this with some serious offerings (full GotY / DLC on free games, occasional season pass free downloads / more full powered PS5 titles)

You will likely never top Microsoft for Game Server performance, so you need to make up that gap with other offerings.
Price hike with no noteworthy benefits is a bad move. I will likely be cancelling when my sub is up.

P.S. – I have HAD it with the lopsided indy and “8-bit” game offerings compared to 1st tier titles.
P.P.S. I enjoy my PS5 and personally love the haptic, performance, and comfort on the controllers (except maybe the battery which I upgraded).
