  • Letting my sub lapse for the first time ever on my 10 year anniversary of PS Plus unless this price change is completely reverted. No, I’m not going to rush out and buy a year before the price increase.

  • Well, I know that I’m never gonna renew my ps plus subscription until they lower the price. This is not worth my money at all. It’s just paying more for less. Shame on this company man.

  • So you are asking for 80usd for basic online service? If the price are going to increase I am enough with you, Sony. More players will moves to Steam for sure. Lets see hows online games dying on ps platform cause no one want to pay more for online service. Almost all monthly free games are trash too. Anyway, I will stop renew my plus next month.

  • Thank you for including the link in this blog post for how to cancel your subscription. I immediately canceled my yearly subscription after reading this news for the new rate increases. If anything as a die hard Sony fan I hope the way your fans and loyalists respond teaches you as a corporation to treat us better than Xbox or Blizzard.

  • welp that’s that then I’m no longer going to be subscribing to ps plus anymore

  • Thanks Sony, Just changed my sub back to the lowest tier from the highest becuase of this.

Was already a huge $155 a year in Aus but at $200 a year im out.

  • The ps extra and premium catalogues dont have enough good titles to justify such a price increase its mostly just indies I 100% disagree with your proposed price increase I don’t want to pay £60 to just merely go online thats a complete rip off unless this is massively discounted when I goto renew I won’t be renewing at that price

  • Sad day for me here, another 10 year long time subscriber lost. Please rephrase your bs Sony! Not for the players interest in mind, you’re trying to cash grab. Xbox price increased two months ago and ironically so do you now? Such a joke! Xbox increases price so you get day one access to Starfield and other AAA’s on launch and we get Saints Row? DO NOT SUBSCRIBE THIS YEAR!! SCAM ALERT!! Seriously guys it used to be free to play with friends now it’s $80 US. Wake up!

  • Increasing the price is such a cash grab it isn’t even funny. All they see is $$$ signs and the whales will gladly pay the increase in price. Sony will consider that a [DELETED] success. I already foresee people moving to Xbox and getting game-pass ultimate for 15 bucks and never looking back. At least with that you get get your moneys worth and not an increase in price. I refuse to get playstation plus with these price increase, I’ll stick with individual game purchase.

  • Sony is on a roll, one bad idea after another.

  • This is a very low blow from Sony. I do understand that there is rising cost and all that. But we have not Had a proper E3 Type show case from them since PS4 era.
Countries get excluded from getting Spiderman 2 face plates and in south-Africa. So when this increase filter to the rest of the world I will be looking at paying maybe 2/3rds more that now.

  • I don’t know what you guys were thinking on this one. I love me some PlayStation but I’m not going to just sign up for stuff just because either. I really hope you guys have something you haven’t announced yet that could possibly justify such a price increase.

  • 80€ for digital games, pay to play online (with my net) and now we have to pay more for the same service… Im done. Bye $ONY.

  • You must be crazy 160£ 😀😃🤣😂
    What is wrong with you????
First of all you don’t have day one pass for the new games, no new games, no ps3 games, no ps 2 games, and you ask more money. Listen 20£ a year for multiplay is OK no games that’s fine. But to charge us every year 160 with crappie games 🖕

  • Your price hike announcement should of had its own post. Many people will not see this. This is clearly just a cash grab. It was already to expensive just to simply play online. Ridiculous.

  • Sony is trippin. I will def be cancelling my PS Plus account.

  • This is total BS. I am not renewing.

  • [DELETED]. Looks like I might be going back to Xbox.

  • $80US a year for PS+ Essential?!? Unless you introduce a free or VERY CHEAP tier that removes the “free” games, so we can keep playing online and back-up our saves, then you can shove it Sony!
I’m selling my PS5, I’m sick of your greed! I hope you go bankrupt!

  • SONY is back to where it was before the PS3 release, overly arrogant. If you could at least be more flexible and not try to force the customer into a corset.

I only need a subscription for Cloud, Online Gaming & Premium for the Classics. Extra and Essential Games interest me 0.0.

  • this price increase sucks especially on such short-term notice Sony is out of their mind and recent monthly games have a really really crap line up extra are some few neat features and fr nobody uses premium especially if you raise the fricking price to 160 DOLLARS! that’s an insane price for just a service that’s just a lil extra stuff xbox game pass is already 10x times better AND it is cheaper. (now) i say at least delay the price till next year. but just cancel the entire idea its stupid and will bring you down tons of my friends already canceled their next pre-pay.

    • It’s down Jim Ryan’s and Yoshida management like Xbox’s Don Mattrick Adam Orth back in 2013 out of touch decision’s.

  • I really can not stand reading this monthly blog post comments anymore. The sense of entitlement and greed is unbelievable. Yes online was free on ps3, now you pay for it. You get a few games on top of your online connection fee. If you don’t play online then don’t pay for PS essential. If you do play online then just accept the extras you get and stop btchg

    • It’s not the price increase that people are complaining about; it’s the AMOUNT of the price increase. There is no reason to put a 20 to 40 dollar increase on any of the tiers without improvements or meaningful changes to those tiers. Sony should have offered more cloud storage and more access to classic games “before” it rolled out the new membership tiers in the first place, in my opinion. Now they are playing catch up and it could cost them a profit loss in memberships.

People have a right to complain and give their feedback; otherwise, companies will never have the chance to reevaluate issues when they arise.

If you are tired of reading the comments of this blog post, then I humbly suggest you stop reading them because they will be more of the same.

  • This price increase is asinine. If not retracted, I will be shifting any online gaming I would be doing, onto PC. Consequently, gamers like me will lower the PS5’s software attachment rate.

  • These game line ups have been awful for months. Constant sports games and wow, the worst saints games made. I’m not gonna be renewing after mines expires.

  • Just cancelled my PS+ subscription. Bye Sony!

  • We can see a trash games every month 😞

  • Another trash month and a price increase?! I’m not renewing my sub it seems.

  • $20 increase?…this ain’t no joke but you guys gotta be joking.Took nearly 10 years to increase $10 and now in less than 5 years you wanna increase $20?…I hope the blind followers of sony will start to see y’all for what you are since the PS4 gen success…a bunch of greedy a-holes.Ugh all y’all been doing for years now is showing no respect for your true fans hell not even for your own games and legacy plus doing poor choice after poor choice and you want $20 more for year?…when does ryan and hulst get to be replaced?…they’re gonna sink PS.I never thought I would live to see Sony going so deep in the shameful sea…it’s a sad time to be a PS fan.

  • I can only hope this comes with a much higher quality of games coming to the service as Saints Row reboot a critically panned dog turd is not worth the current investment, I also unsubbed to PlayStation Access channel because of the way the shills drooled over the PS+ titles this month utter garbage.

    • PS Access is great but unfortunately they’re paid to glorify every crap that comes outta Sony even their worst decision ever which was sending PS games to pc.I certainly wouldn’t be able to work there.

  • Am grateful for the new wannabe Saints Row though, would never buy that crap so am glad to try it on the lineup and Generation Zero is another game I wanted to try but didn’t want to buy.

  • While I’m certainly not as outraged as some of my fellow Sony owners on here, the timing of the price hike coupled with a poor PS Plus lineup when MS is releasing it’s biggest game of the year/ever is incredibly poor timing. It demonstrates either clueless awareness or continued bullish arrogance on Sonys behalf.

I’m not sure if I will be continuing with PS Plus, certainly not at the Premium level . If you’re going to increase the price by that much at least justify it properly with better content/features and start including some PSVR2 games too.

  • Bafflingly poor decision from Sony. I won’t be hanging around after my current sub ends.

  • Show some increase in value soon Sony, or this is not a good look.

  • This is a huge increase, I’m on the middle plan and it was raised $35 bucks, most of the games you include in the PS Plus monthly are crappy games, like september’s releases, Black Desert is a cheap/f2p game on pc, Saint’s Row is ass, and Generation Zero can be picked up for $4-5 bucks on sale on steam…

I’d rather put the money towards Gamepass which is a better value overall since they you know.. include new releases.. lol

  • Anyone who frequented the EU blog should know me, I was always advocating for an option to pay for online only. Combining that cost with PS+ always troubled me, as you’re forcing me to buy something irrelevant (PS+) in order to get something essential (online) – and to add to injury, the irrelevant part takes up most of the general cost.

The one good thing about this is that more people might finally join my train of thought there… I’ve actually been playing a lot of my PS+ library lately (primarily because my launch PS5 already started overheating and only small indie games seem to keep it going for more than 10 minutes) in anticipation or preparation of weaning off PS+, this price increase just settles it for me. Battlefield 2042 is the only online game I’ve played frequently this generation and I can do without that at this point.

I knew Jim Ryan was trouble from the start, but I couldn’t imagine it being such a tragedy… Blasphemously gets rid of exclusives and increases price on just about everything, that’s all he’s responsible for. Oh and ruining my respect and love for this company and by extension gaming in general, the only hobby I remained interested in throughout my life.

  • I am not gonna renew when my sub expires early next year. There is just no justification for the price increase and this is just plain greedy slathered all over your face. I’ve maybe tried 5, or so free games over my 10+ years with PlayStation plus, (my last purchase receipt email was in 2014) so free games were never really a reason for subscribing, and is actually worthless to me. I only ever paid to play online with others, even though paying to play online is already in itself sus, since it’s free on the PC. The 50-60 price was just the cost of another game so didn’t sting as much since it was gaming on the big TV. But I’d be a fool if I paid even more for no reason whatsoever. For Shame on $ony.

  • The price of everything is going up and you thought “Ooo bandwagon”

  • This is the result of lack of competition. MS basically stopped fighting on the same playing field.

You can look forward to more of this kinda stuff, the more the industry is becoming consolidated and merged together.

  • Funny fact.. I’m PC gamer, and my first console ever is PS5.. and after long 3 months I already regret buying it.

    • You entered the ecosystem at a really bad time I guess.

PS+ was actually a good deal when it was introduced and the game selection around 2012-2014 was absolutely sensational value for money. Free online play also ensured almost all games had people playing them.

Once online play got locked behind PS+ with the PS4, the online part of many AAA games were quickly becoming ghost towns. Even Uncharted 4 multiplayer dropped off after the first month in a way that Uncharted 2 and 3 multiplayer did NOT on the PS3. The reason obviously being the online play paywall.

Once the tiered subscriptions came in, this latest increase was inevitable. Sony is trying to milk PS+ for all its worth and is gambling that the long term gains are worth the short term alienation of users.

I’m not sure I agree… but I’m beyond caring now. Best thing I did was buy a RTX 4070 TI a few months ago. I’m so, so relieved I didn’t buy a PS5. I decided to delay that til later this year, but it sure as hell ain’t happening now.

    • I said 2012-2014, but I think it was more like 2011-2013 actually. It was called the “Instant Game Collection” and it just brilliant.

  • Wow. I’m dissapointed. How are y’all going to charge more without offering any new first-player multiplayer games NOW? The Premium tier was already lackluster and a waste of money, so now you’re charging more for it??? And now $80 just to play online and have cloud saves… I’ll just make the jump to PC at this point. There’s no reason for me to keep wasting my money in an ecosystem that wants to nickel and dime me when I can get the same, if not better, experience elsewhere.

  • Premium-It’s like eating at a Buffet.🍗🍖🥗

Extra-Is like eating at a good Steakhouse a good well done steak.🥩

Essential-Is like eating cold stale soggy leftover McDonald’s fries.🍟

  • Come on you give us zero news on future of PlayStation all year, you delay several games till 2024 and beyond, and give us the worse lineup of essential games of the year this month in a month where you competitor is finally starting to show life and you want piss off everyone by giving a 33% price hike. I been fan PlayStation for awhile but I don’t see the vision. As it stands not I will not renew once my current plan laps.

  • No, way I will renew it.

  • HELL no to *that* saints row game.

i’d sooner purchase a copy to toss into a burn fire than taint my ps4 with a copy of that game.

woke games are a trash fire of pandering.

  • Focus on GaaS, price hiking, cross-gen games, bad build quality on controllers, all of this makes me consider selling my PS5. PlayStation owner since 1997, without interruption.

  • The pricing seems disproportionately high considering the underwhelming content that is offered. I anticipated better service for the steep price and believed classics from the PS1 to the games available now would be playable. However, Sony has fallen far below my expectations; they’ve practically swan-dived. I am being promised “high-quality games and value-added benefits,” yet they are nowhere to be seen. Looking past the deception, I interpret it as “we’re greedy, we want more from you while doing nothing else in return, and we hope you’re obedient in letting our hands rest in your pockets.”

While I hesitated with the initial pricing, it ultimately fell within an acceptable range, leading to my decision to make the purchase. However, the current escalation in pricing evokes a sense of frustration and disgust. It leads me to question why I invested in a PS5. My affinity for the PlayStation brand is rooted in my childhood experiences with the PS2 and PS3. The shift towards charging for online play on the PS4, although initially irksome, was accepted due to the desire to engage with friends online. Acquiring my PS5 was a source of anticipation due to its innovative features and refreshed feeling.

While the PS5 game collection has expanded, the present range of offerings in the catalog feels inadequate to substantiate the recent price hike. I am contemplating my previous decision of choosing the PS5 over a PC, a choice that now seems less astute, given PC’s broader spectrum of content, free online play, and a sense of reduced commercial influence which Sony unfortunately does the opposite for its consumers.

I will be shopping for a PC, distancing myself from Sony as my main source, and improving my well-being by ensuring Sony will no longer have their greedy hands stuffed in my pockets.

  • So £59.99 a year just to acesss cloud saves 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 what a rip off I’m not interested in online play only cloud saves yeah no thanks.I’m angry as a PlayStation5 gamer😡😡😡

Jim Ryan has to go he’s just a out of touch business corp suit and he’s the Sonys Don Mattrick of PlayStation and he’s not a gamer like Phil spencer all he cares about is the £££££££ not the gamers like me 😡😡😡😡.

    I hate corporate greed!!

Bring back Shaun layden Andrew house. Ect back.
I’m going to extend my ps+ essential teir September the 5th day before price hike you money grabbing greedy scumbags them soon my ps+ essential is up September 5th 2024 I’m cancelling ps+ completely until Sony realised they screwed up and back track their greedy out of touching decisions

Screw pay £59.99 for cloud saves and PlayStation portal is DOA and a waste of money.

Jim Ryan needs to be fired asap as he’s running to PlayStation to the ground like Don Mattrick and Adam Orth @dealwith it rubbish back in 2013 10 years ago with the original Xbox one drm policy’s.

  • PlayStation 5 Pro will be a waste of money as it will only 5% or 10% powerful than the base ps5 nah I wait for the PlayStation 6 in 2028 thanks. Hopefully Jim Ryan will be sacked or resigns by then but I doubt it.

  • Sorry Song, this is where we part ways until you all reduce the price at least back down to the current prices. You could have given away some really nicer games to try and smooth this news over.

Oh well, I hope others vote with their wallet at this apprent money grab. Everything is more expensive these days, and the ‘essential’ tier just isn’t that essential for me at this time.

After typing this comment, I’m off to turn off my auto renewal.

  • Boy am I glad I bought a RTX 4070 TI a few months ago instead of a PS5. I wasn’t sure which order to buy them in. Figured I’d finally buy the PS5 later this year, but this price increase has effectively ensured I will never buy one. Trying to lock me into the PlayStation ecosytem when I don’t yet own a PS5 has effectively alienated me from it. I’ve been a PS+ subscriber since 2011 and when it expires, that’s bye bye to Sony PlayStation for good.

Humble Choice may cost more than PS+, but I get eight games and I get to keem them forever, and free online play and backup saves however the hell I want is none of their business.
