Today, I’m very pleased to announce that PlayStation VR2 is officially launching on February 22, 2023. PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station, designed specifically for the PS VR2 Sense controller, will also launch the same day.

Here is the PS VR2 lineup and recommended retail pricing for each product. Availability in each country is subject to local import regulations.

Standalone software titles, including Horizon Call of the Mountain, will also be available for pre-orders starting this month. More details will be provided at a later date.

During this initial launch phase for our next-gen headset, players in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg will initially be able to pre-order PlayStation VR2 solely through PlayStation’s online store at direct.playstation.com. Pre-orders will begin on November 15, and players may begin to register for pre-orders starting today. Orders from direct.playstation.com for PlayStation VR2 headsets and bundles will ship throughout the week of launch.

In other markets, PlayStation VR2 will be sold at participating retailers, with pre-orders beginning on November 15. Information will be provided through participating local retailers in these regions.

PlayStation VR2 Sense Technology includes key features that enable unique gameplay experiences, such as headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D audio, and the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback from the PS VR2 Sense controllers. Together with compatible games they will captivate players’ senses and offer an incredibly deep feeling of immersion.

Additionally, with enhanced headset-based controller tracking and high fidelity visuals in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye), PS VR2 adds a true next-gen gaming experience for players to enjoy.

We’ve created the PS VR2 headset with comfort in mind, in a slightly slimmer and lighter design compared to our previous headset. We’ve also included an integrated vent for extra air flow, and a lens adjustment dial for a more customized feel. We hope players will enjoy this new design.

Today, we are also pleased to reveal additional titles coming to PlayStation VR2, with fresh new reveals on new titles that are currently in development for PlayStation VR2. Read our announcement here.

It’s exciting to see how game developers are taking advantage of the PS VR2’s headset features to design the next generation of VR games. We’re expecting more than 20 titles at launch, and we can’t wait for February when PS VR2 launches so players can give it a try.  We’ll have more details on our launch game lineup in the future, so stay tuned.

  • $549?!? This game better come with half life alyx or something!

    • Comes with Sony’s blessings. Pay $600 and you can get it with a Horizion demo..

    • Sony released their biggest game spiderman on steam. I fully expect alyx to show up at launch or within the first year.

This does come up with Horizon call of the mountain which is an amazing experience in its own right

  • Just registered for pre order! After seeing both Linus and MKB preview the hardware, I am excited!

  • People are forgetting that PSVR 1 launched at $400 for *just the headset* – no camera, no controllers. The “complete” PSVR package was $500, with the camera and the Move controllers (which by that time was old tech). That makes PSVR 2 – which has in-headset cameras, redesigned controllers and has cutting edge tech in everything – very reasonably priced at only $50 more. Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s new tech, and that’s the price for being an early adopter. Eventually the price will drop for those who wait.

I’ll be picking one up as soon as I can. I never regretted getting my PSVR 1 and I’m expecting PSVR 2 to be even better. I’m so thankful that Sony is continuing to support VR and move the industry forward with new tech and ideas.

    • Exactly. I have two PSVRs and still use them to this day. I have never regretted my purchases. This will be awesome!!!

    • Price doesn’t bother me, not being able to play my existing pSVR game library on it does. I have no plan on keeping two headsets or rebuying my games . Add PSVR compatibility and I am in.

    • Yeah but inflation has gone up since then on everything.

  • I will get the PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain bundle as well as the PlayStation VR2 Sense controller charging station as fast as I can click the pre-order button!!! This falls at right about the cost I expected and actually about a month earlier than I feared. It is going to be hard to wait this long but at least we now have a date.

  • Please port Astro Bot and other high rated PS4 VR games to the PSVR2!

    • I wonder if we won’t. So many great PS4 games had free upgrades to PS5.

I could see similar things happening here.

  • Thanks, but no thank you.

  • Sweet! can’t wait. I’m fine with the price, loved PSVR and so pleased this is going to take the tech to the next level, worth the money.
Really looking forward to Firewall Ultra, hope that’s gonna be there for launch.

  • I’ll be honest, this is a little pricier than I was anticipating, but by no means a deal-breaker. After the reveal of the Meta Quest Pro’s price of an eye-watering $1,499, I am just happy that it doesn’t have a similar price tag. I’ll be pre-ordering this day one!

  • Io vorrei il bundle ps5+vr2, così lo ordino!!!

  • $550 with no backwards compatibility for PSVR1 games? Oof.

So, have to buy the headset, plus buy a whole new library of games? Which I wouldn’t be surprised if they were sold (and priced) as “premium” VR titles.

    Pretty steep, Sony.

  • I was Day one with PS4,PSVR, PS5 and while the Price doesn’t bother me the lack of backwards compatibility with PSVR does. I have a pretty decent PSVR library , I even have some on Disk I haven’t played yet but I have no intention on rebuying games and starting from scratch with nothing . Sony needs to add some compatibility with PSVR or I’ll pass on this .

    • I believe there are several developers that alredy announced free upgrades for PSVR owners, so check to see if the games in your library have free upgrades. With a “decent” library you’ll most likely have something to play day one without buying a single game.

  • No can do I’m afraid. Had my previous games worked then I would have been tempted.

Or at least the promise that games would get a free upgrade to work over time.

    But nope, nothing.

I can’t be bothered to start again.

  • Any idea if this will be backwards-compatible with PS VR1 games?

  • Gotta say I chuckled a bit reading some angry comments about the price. Not sure what some folks were expecting. I think it’s a fair price.

    • It can be a fair price for what is offered, yet still ridiculous in the current economy. (Inflation, Cost of Living Crisis, Covid, etc)

Console add-ons historically have never really sold particularly well, nor had 3rd party support. (Let’s say 50% of PS5 owners get one, well would you rather try and sell a game to 100% of PS5 customers or 50%?)

There’s the response I’ve seen which is “well people have $1000 cell phones”… yeah I have one. I pay for it monthly though. I can pay for a Xbox Series X monthly too if I want… But I can’t spread the cost of a PS VR2 on launch, and why not?

I guarantee people would not be complaining about the cost if they could get a PS VR2 for $20 a month over so many years. (28 months)

    • You can you just have to wait for it to hit the shops and not from Sony direct

  • Should have known it would have been a blog post but still excited nonetheless. I thought it might’ve been end of March so the end of February is most welcome.

  • Will everyone with a psn ID be allowed to pre order?

  • Will it be possible for the PSVR2 to have official support for prescription lens adapters for those of us who wear corrective glasses? I would be more inclined to purchase if that was made available as I don’t like having to wear my glasses while using VR headsets. I’m also concerned that wearing glasses might have a negative impact on eye tracking functionality.

  • Though I’m not happy with the price, I did predict this when they announced the pro controller price. That was to get people used to premium pricing. Smart move. I’ve been saving xmas money for the last 2 years for this, and I don’t have any issues dropping 599.99 for the bundle. Let those with the financial means get these pre-orders and then at some later date maybe reduce the price for the general public by 50-100 bucks.

  • Above a PS5 in retail is crazy but ima still cop though since I can actually contextualize it with VR in the PC space and see that this is a steal tbh. Had a PS5 since launch so its not like im buying both @ once (definitely aimed @ those who already own the system) and everyone who cared already knew this wasn’t a stand alone device anyway. The only fear is a PS Vita type situation where the initial sales “don’t meet expectation” and then Sony just gives up on the product in like 2 years and THEN it consequently fails cause SONY gave up instead of persevering and showing faith in the product. Granted if Sony put the Playstation brand on anything they have to be of the mindset of “this gotta work”; what else is REALLY going for the Sony ‘Group’? Life insurance lol?

  • Price is waaaaay too high. I understand it’s an oled screen and has eye tracking. However, with the lineup of games, needing a PS5 to also play this costs well over $1000. No backward compatibility mentioned either.

  • Please make it PC compatible PlayStation. Just PLEASE!!!!!

  • This thing isn’t backwards compatible with existing PSVR games and cannot be used on a PC. So basically, the new horizon game is $600. What on earth are they thinking… What a waste of money it would be to buy this.

  • LOVE IT IM BIYING ONE 🥰🥰🥰🥰

and now i hope Sony brings a next gen PSP capable to run PS5/PS4 games 🔥🔥🔥

  • Yes please

  • Are you out of your minds? Greedy bastards

  • Day 1 purchase for me if I get selected, absolutely loved the original PSVR and still play it on my PS5. Having said that, I really wish Sony would have kept the price 499 or under as having a peripheral experience cost more than the actual console is going to rub a lot of people the wrong way.

  • Notice how they didn’t mention a canadian price? $750. New edge controller? $270 canadian. What are you guys smoking?

  • What’s this? SIE is branching out to the luxury market? Hilarious

  • If you have a ps5 and want a vr get this. It has 120hz and the controllers have adaptive triggers

  • Hmmmmm very interesting to see modern peoples reaction to new tech from companies.
    • Your not satisfied with the price.. ok if they lowered only 12% more, would you buy it? -while 70% would just want it lowered because giggles.
    • imo.. it’s PlayStations first true VR..it has “eye tracking” which alone sales me.. not to forget the basic ability to move lol and especially now that controllers are modernized.
    • if it’s to much for you don’t buy or don’t buy right away, wait for the second version or the more than likely a new color at a lower price
•most importantly, please stop sounding like your not adults, save up. Or pass on this item for now, it’s going to be okay ❤️

  • What!!!??? So much money!!!??? FOR SOME VR GLASSES!!!??? Why 😭😭!!!??

  • Well considering the specs I’m fine with the price. I’ll be buying one for sure. I bought a Index for $1000 so this being half is fine with me.

The controllers have awesome features and so does this headset.

  • Registered for a pre-order! Do we get an email confirming that we registered to try to get a pre-order? It seems like I only get “Thank you for your purchase” emails from Sony.

Anyway, super-excited for PSVR2! The specs sound great!

  • I’ve really been looking forward to this but lack of PC compatibility is silly and therefore I will have to pass. All of the PSVR users I heard from barely used theirs and not being flexible enough to work on a PC too means it’s just not worth it for most people who only want to buy one VR headset.

  • I know people are looking at the price, and yeah it was a little more than I was hoping, but some perspective is useful here.

A PC VR headset of this spec is in the region of $1200. So yes, $500 is a lot of money, but when you look at the market for devices of this spec, it’s actually pretty cheap.

  • I didn’t think it would be that high. Now I don’t want one

  • $550.00 for gimmick pretending to be a virtual reality headset.

Can’t you make it small like a visor like what Geordie Laforge wears.

    Or shades size😎

  • I’m not sure how the price point comes as a surprise to anyone, people have been approximating this for months based on specs.

  • I think 549$ is a good price I can’t wait to try it

  • Pretty pricey.

    Regard,
    John Earwig

  • I’ve always been a day 1 adopter, but even I may need to sit this one out. At $549 USD, we’ll likely be looking at $749 CAD, which I’m sure is part of the reason Canadian prices aren’t listed on the blog anymore. I’m not sure that I used my PSVR enough to justify purchasing a PSVR2, at that price point.

  • Each Indivial Eye has a Horizontal FOV of about 135 degrees and a vertical FOV of just over 180 degrees.

PVR2 has 110 degrees 😢 however its still 10 degrees better then the previous model.

So ill pass until I’m truly immersed that match the human eyes.

    Remember these magic specs

    135 degrees Horizontal per eye
    180 degrees Vertical per eye

= True Virtual Reality and true immersion. Basically what we see with our eyes in the real world is what will reflect over into True Virtual Reality.

Years away just yet but we’re getting there.

  • PSVR launched at 399 and didn’t include the camera or controllers. With camera and controllers it was 499.

    This is $50 more.

  • Ooooooh I can’t wait!!

  • At this price I’m not taking the risk for Sony to pull a Vita and abandon it in a few years, specially when Vita’s launch library was way better than what’s been announced for VR2

  • Who will get this early? Probably all of the EU. God of War Ragnarok comes out Nov. 9, 2022 but has already been played by thousands. Sony ineptness is becoming very taxing! How does Jim Ryan keep his job? Sony is again trying to kill any info but this happenned!

  • It’s fine but does it have Bonelab

  • They are mad, and anyone who defends this price point has “spec.ticles.” The “cutting edge tech” argument is tired and weak, at best. That white giant azz winged beast in my living room is also “cutting edge” and cost $50 less. I don’t think it’s unreasonable for people to complain or point out that it’s a ridiculously high price.

I also want to point out to all these weekend economists… The price of things has skyrocketed, meaning less disposable income. Less disposable income means folks (most casual gamers) will not purchase this device. Less VR purchases for Sony, means less headsets in the wild, so less VR game sales…. Keep going down this path and we end up where the PSP, PS Vita, and PSVR did, dead!

I think VR is awesome and would LOVE to see this set rock and roll, but I’ll wait and see. The ones of us with patience will have the cheapest laughs. I foresee $400 mark by June (wishful thinking).

  • Can Sony please make it more clear if this is going to work on PC. With all the features and the price point its a huge miss not to include the PC market. It really is the place that will push VR to the main stream over time. Its mostly the thing that is preventing me from getting one again.
