Pre-orders for the PS VR2 headset, games, and PS VR2 Sense Controller charging station are underway starting today.

Over the past several months, we’ve introduced PlayStation VR2 and provided glimpses into the next generation of virtual reality gaming, which will allow you to escape into new worlds  while feeling a groundbreaking sense of immersion. Today, I’m very pleased to announce that PlayStation VR2 is officially launching on February 22, 2023. Standalone software titles, including Horizon Call of the Mountain, will also be available for pre-orders starting this month. More details will be provided at a later date.

During this initial launch phase for our next-gen headset, players in the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg will initially be able to pre-order PlayStation VR2 solely through PlayStation’s online store at direct.playstation.com. Pre-orders will begin on November 15, and players may begin to register for pre-orders starting today. Orders from direct.playstation.com for PlayStation VR2 headsets and bundles will ship throughout the week of launch.

In other markets, PlayStation VR2 will be sold at participating retailers, with pre-orders beginning on November 15. Information will be provided through participating local retailers in these regions.

PlayStation VR2 Sense Technology includes key features that enable unique gameplay experiences, such as headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D audio, and the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback from the PS VR2 Sense controllers. Together with compatible games they will captivate players’ senses and offer an incredibly deep feeling of immersion.

Additionally, with enhanced headset-based controller tracking and high fidelity visuals in 4000 x 2040 HDR video format (2000 x 2040 per eye), PS VR2 adds a true next-gen gaming experience for players to enjoy.

We’ve created the PS VR2 headset with comfort in mind, in a slightly slimmer and lighter design compared to our previous headset. We’ve also included an integrated vent for extra air flow, and a lens adjustment dial for a more customized feel. We hope players will enjoy this new design.

Today, we are also pleased to reveal additional titles coming to PlayStation VR2, with fresh new reveals on new titles that are currently in development for PlayStation VR2. Read our announcement here.

It’s exciting to see how game developers are taking advantage of the PS VR2’s headset features to design the next generation of VR games. We’re expecting more than 20 titles at launch, and we can’t wait for February when PS VR2 launches so players can give it a try.  We’ll have more details on our launch game lineup in the future, so stay tuned.

  • No backward compatibility, cable needed, ps5 needed, insane price…. my vr experience in sony stop with psvr1.

    Thanks sony.

    • How can you dismiss it without having experienced it? Without cable you will get the ugle quest graphics. Backward compatibility would have made it complicated like psvr 1 was an experimental complicated product. Have you seen horizon game, resident evil 8, firewall ultra, and you will likely be getting gran turismo 7 too. There is no rule which states peripherals cant be more expensive. Consoles are usually subsidized and sold at a loss. I bought a steering wheel for GT7 for 500!! The price could have been 500 but 550 is not too bad for such great quality

  • Registered to get one. I’ll end up getting the Horizon bundle and the dock. A little pricier than I thought it would be, but still a day one purchase.

  • DOA at that price point. Such a shame, too – was really looking forward to this!

    • What would you classify as DOA? Considering the supply chain constraints, sony is producing an initial batch of 2 million. These 2 million sell out on day1. Sony is making a business decision. A product launch is not DOA if it sells out

  • The fact that this new version does not even contain any sort of backwards compatibility is such a hard sell at this price point.

    • Dont lose hope just yet. Remember ps plus collection with ps5? There are already several free remasters announced for psvr 2 upgrades such as after the fall and wanderer. Many more will come. This can be a blessing in disguise as with backwards compat, all legacy technical inconveniences of psvr1 would carry over and confuse consumers even more. Remasters of the best PSVR1 games is the simplest approach to implement

  • spending a price higher than that of the console, for a wired headset, without a wireless adapter, and with a too poor lineup would be just crazy, and I say this as an interested in buying, but in 2023 a wired viewer cannot cost so much. And in addition to eye tracking it does not offer anything more than the competition, which at a lower price sells portable wireless headset and which also are stand alone.

  • Augh! Don’t get dressed, we ain’t going.

Christ on a bike! C-ya in 3 years when the price drops.

  • wantttttttttttt itttttttttttttt

  • Biggest issue is games lineup. There is nothing really exciting at all. A lot of people were hoping to see HL Alyx…

  • Finally!!! ❤️❤️❤️

  • So basically over $1000 to even enjoy this crap? Um, a Pandemic happened (and is still going on) Viruses, war, inflation and more stuff is going on and you think everyone is rich to afford this? some people can’t work, some people live on food stamps and other stuff. I swear, this is the last gaming generation for me.

These companies are just money hungry, and they don’t care about any of us, but they do care about our wallets. They don’t care if people are struggling to live/dying… they just think everyone is loaded and should pay for stuff that will just end up getting updated, upgraded and then forgotten about the next generation.

Games look good now, they don’t need to look more better. Screw ps6/xbox w/e and beyond!

    • Gaming is not a basic necessity like oxygen or water. You dont have a divine right to get cheap gaming. Gaming is a luxury and these companies are already selling these consoles at a loss. If someone is struggling for food etc affording gaming would not be on top of their minds

  • Sony you’ve gone lost ya goddamn mind

  • 1st off…. What is the support for this? Is it the same as the 1st VR or the vita? 2nd…. are these gonna be released at retail, because we know how the boxes of the last of us part 1 arrived from ps direct.

  • Canada price and preorder availability?

  • How is vision correction handled for the 75% of adults who need it?

  • All these people complaining about the price. It’s high res, high refresh tv bolted to your head with 2 controllers, couple of camera’s.
600 dollars is cheap, especially for introduction price.

    • @nickdn “600 dollars is cheap” says the person who doesn’t struggle to live.

    • No is not man, this is a lose cause, desist 😑

    • I don’t mean to sound rude but if anyone is struggling to live and yet is able to own a ps5 and buy games and everything that comes with it… They are not struggling to live.

The price is higher than needed in this time we live in with money issues in the top five things most normal people worry about every day but as stated by a few people on here it’s a buyer market the price matches what people will pay for and if they don’t buy it then the price drops and Sony takes a loss to sell them to recoup it later in game sales

  • Loooong time Sony customer. This costs way too much. Got an invite to pre-order but I will not. $550 with no game, no charging station? $600 with a game and still no charging station. No thanks. And I CAN afford it but come on! I will maybe get one when this blows up in their faces and all 100 people that pre-order it pay to beta test it. Then MAYBE once it reaches a reasonable price and amasses an actual game line-up, I will get one. They seriously thought this was a good idea? I got at least 3 people to buy a PSVR. Was hyped for this thing. The hype is now gone for me. So disappointing.

  • Hey Sony, Since you are not bringing PSVR1 Backwards Compatibility to PSVR2. Can you at least Port all the PSVR1 Titles that matter most to PSVR2? And most importantly, can you also offer Free Upgrades from PSVR1 Versions we already own to Free PSVR2 Version Upgrades? Much like what you did with Free PS5 Upgrades of PS4 Games we already own. I think this is the most sensible solution to take!

  • I agree with many others, the pricing is too high.
Part of what made PSVR the initial market leader was a competitive price point despite not necessarily having the best hardware.

I’m sure this will sell out at the start due to early adopters and limited supply but I believe sales will fall off sharply.
Expect price cuts/bundles around September 2023.

This pricing for PSVR2 is a reminder we are back to arrogant Sony from the PS3 launch era.
Anyway, the market will determine if Sony’s strategy is right or wrong.

    • I bought psvr at launch, it was $500 for Tue bundle and a PlayStation 4 was $400. As great as psvr was, tech wise it doesn’t hold a candle to psvr2. 6 years later and the cost for a Ps5 and a psvr2 is $950.00. That is only $50 more for way way way better tech. By your logic psvr2 has a excellent price point as well. Even though your trying to paint a too expensive picture. You’re not getting a index for less and you still need a pc. And quest may be cheaper but, but it’s inferior by large margins. So enjoy your low end vr.

  • Please add support for 3D Blu-Ray playback on PS5 and PSVR2!

  • Looking forward to this!

  • Day one.. been waiting for this day I need though for me and my son.. he wants one for his birthday Feb 24.. also I have psvr for ps4 and I loved it.. BUT! Psvr2 is on another level..

  • Ug my wallet someone call my gaming financial advisor and tell him I’m not going to make it 🪦

  • Tis’ a tall order

  • I don’t get enough gameplay out of my existing PSVR to justify that price tag on something that’s got no guarantee of support or success. Devs want to support successful hardware. If they don’t sell enough, 3rd party games soon dry up (anybody remember the Wii U? Great hardware, good price, poor marketing, poor sales). £530 with no bundled game? Could be a download code – free to distribute. I know, I know, the cast of thousands involved in video game production need paying but you’re trying to promote a new platform, give the users some kind of sweetener – even the PS5 had Astro. And no backwards compatibility? It’s not even like they’ve been giving PSVR games with PS+. Looks nice but too expensive at launch for my budget, I’ve a family to feed.

  • People complain about the price, yet, tou can go out and buy a $500 console and buy 1 part for a pc for $1500-$2000 like a graphics card with no monitors, no kbm, and you complained about psvr2 look at what specs has oled, 4k hdr, 90-120fps eye tracking, haptic feed back on controllers and headset.. there is a lot of tech this is worth the price, psvr2 will only get better after launch..

    • Exactly, how many people complaint have a $1000 phone in their pocket. Cheap much.

    • @ALIZE187 Why would anyone buy a $500 dollar console and a PC part ?

You are just throwing random expensive things around to justify the lame price for this crappy product.

“PSVR2 will only get better after launch” You can’t see into the future. What happened to the PSVR 1 again? They updated it after a while and then that’s it. Now this? after this one, an updated version and that’s it. The cycle repeats.

@Fastede You tell me. You sound like one of those people. “I bought this and that” who cares what you bought? rubbing your money in people’s faces.

I am sure you have a $1000 dollar phone or more. You are a sheep, follow Sony, your Master owns you.

  • Would be much nicer to get good Astro game with it to showcase us functions, like we got with PS5. For this price it shouldn’t be too hard. 650€ is quite a lot if we want to play something, too. Not sure if I will pay that extra 50€.

  • People without VR and totally ignorant about VR technology commenting about the price LOL….

  • Wait, the Dollar Euro is 1=1 for the charging station, not for the PSVR2?

And how about games? Not the slew of indie games (remakes and updated versions included) we just saw but investements from PlayStation Studios in many, many tripple A PSVR2 titles? The same investment as you do in MP and GAAS games (12 studios building them, buying Bungy for $7B)????????

Asking 600 euros for a product you clearly aren’t investing in heavily is a huge fail, we not even get a show or anything to hype this thing.
I was going to buy it but I wait and see if Sony will abandon this as quick as the Vita and until Europe is treated equaly in price.

  • I bought VR1, gathers dust now. I would’ve paid the equivalent cost of steam deck for a handheld. At that price point it will be an expensive failure

  • Expensive yes. But think of all
The games that weren’t even possible on gen 1. Hell we might even get boneworks and/ or bonelab. There is pricy tech yes. But overall it’s better than the valve index. Valve index is 1000 gbp it’s pricey

    • You are the only person who has said any thing about Bonelab and BONEWORKS the best (in my opinion) vr games on the market or really ever. It needs acknowledgement.

  • Inflation is real. Wowza!

That prices me out of the market.

  • This looks promising, but I’m going to have to pass due to that excessively high price. It’s simply not competitive with the other mainstream VR offering. I fully understand that PS VR2 is a high-end product with cutting edge tech, but the competition offers their comparable product for $150 less and it includes a full SoC (processors, memory, storage, wireless antennae, etc.) and battery, which PS VR2 does not. If Meta can hit $400 with all of those extra components included, then Sony should be able to hit a similar price, even with their added premium tech. The PS VR2 cost of entry is officially $950 (US) considering the PS5 is needed, and this is without any games. The Quest is $400 and no further hardware is needed. If it costs more than double the price of the competing product, it should be more than 2x better.

Unless impressions reveal the PS VR2 experience to be on a whole other level compared to the Quest and other headsets, I simply can’t justify this purchase at this price.

    • Meta doesn’t come anywhere close your clearly mistaken. Quest 2 doesn’t have eye tracking or haptics? And the resolutions is not as good the screen tech is inferior. The only thing they got is wireless. Psvr2 is a far superior product. The good news is you can buy a quest 2 and all its limitations for the $150 less. Enjoy your entry level vr. I’m all about high quality vr and at $550 or $950 that’s a good price. At minimum pc level vr with haptics.

    • @Fastede
What am I mistaken about, specifically?

    • Registered but never got an email or invite. Really want one. People on Canada can order from retailers like Walmart, why isn’t it available in the USA retailers?? Strange…

  • Much better than the new META Pro headset that’s $2k and sucks! I can’t wait for this!

  • I know inflation and all but that’s just ridiculous. What is this a ps3? Need a second job to buy this. Please Sony do not punish the consumer. I’m a fan but at this price I’m not going to buy it. Too much.

  • Still wired huh Sony 😂😂😂 nah I’m good

  • Def needs a better price point. $499.99 would have been pushing it, but would have been more palatable.

To those saying it’s not high…its basically a small fancy (5 or 6 inch?) monitor incased in housing. Or am i missing something? Presumably the controllers cost more than the headset to produce.

Also, Sony likely has royalties to pay AMD for the APU, let alone mfgr cost. PSVR 2 does have a battery, storage medium or processor (at least to the degree of PS5( that would appear to warrant the cost, with or without inflation.

  • Honestly a good, fair price. It’s higher-spec than the Valve Index (which is $1k by itself), while being cheaper and more accessible. People are going to complain, but it really is a decent price, especially for what it offers.

    • Valve Index is 3.5 years old, and as outdated as PSVR1 now, so no point in comparing to it. No one has bought it in years. But indeed Quest and this offer very good value compared to PC headsets.

  • Registered my interest, and will be pre-ordering the device come November 15th! We’re spoilt us PlayStation gamers, so much in the pipe and more not even announced from the vast majority of the studios, 2023 already looking very bright!

  • Registered my interest, and will be pre-ordering the device come November 15th! We’re spoilt us PlayStation gamers, so much in the pipe, and more not even announced from the vast majority of the studios, 2023 already looking very bright!

  • Any details on how we can pre-order?

  • Buying day one, price is exactly what I expected.

Psvr 1 is still $500 in Canada, so $200 more for a newer better experience is fine by me.

  • Again we pay more than US and UK. Sony.

    • US is poor, so they always have to pay less. But small tax will be added to that price. UK price is more than EU, check again.

  • I’ll pre-order as soon as pre-orders are available.
My question: Will it have Beat Saber? Would we have to re-buy everything (as I heard it wasn’t backwards compatible)?

  • I’d think about it if it was PC compatible. Seeing how this headset is most likely PS5 only, there is no way. I love how people compare the PSVR2 to PC and Quest when it’s completely locked into its own walled garden, there isn’t really any comparison to make.

You get a really nice car and a few roads to drive on or you get something that is pretty good and lets you go everywhere.

  • I thought it was going to be more tbh. I’m so excited for this! Just hope I’m able to snag one on the 15th. Sony, what time are preorders going Live? Just let me get one!

  • Finally! I’m registered and hyped more than ever because February is my birthday month.

  • 22nd of February? Wow, that’s my birthday! Thank you Sony, I can’t imagine a better gift!

  • I’ll can’t wait! I remember when PSVR 1 was launching, they had demos setup at Best Buy locations where you go in and try it out before release. Will you be doing the same for PSVR 2?

  • To everyone complaining about price, you clearly have no clue. If you want cheap there are options for you. If you want super expensiveive there are options for you. If you want all the best specs for the $299 you lack understanding. This is a good price for under $1k you can be all in on a system that is pc level quality, for half the price. Quest is wireless but lacks power.

I for one want better and I’m willing to pay for it. If I wanted cheap I would buy a quest 2. Or keep rocking my psvr. Also psvr was $500 at launch. Comparing this is a far far far better deal than what that was for essentially the same price.

I’ll be more than happy playing horizon and whatever else launch day on my new shiny psvr2 while the price haters whine because they don’t understand..

  • I hope I can get one. This will be the new and only to play.
