New recommended retail price coming to select markets in the EMEA, APAC, and LATAM regions, plus Canada.

The global economic environment is a challenge that many of you around the world are no doubt experiencing. We’re seeing high global inflation rates, as well as adverse currency trends, impacting consumers and creating pressure on many industries. Based on these challenging economic conditions, SIE has made the difficult decision to increase the recommended retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 in select markets across Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM), as well as Canada. There will be no price increase in the United States. 

The new RRPs below are effective immediately unless otherwise noted.*

While this price increase is a necessity given the current global economic environment and its impact on SIE’s business, our top priority continues to be improving the PS5 supply situation so that as many players as possible can experience everything that PS5 offers and what’s still to come.

    The current PS5 has a smaller heat sink than the launch PS5. So you’re literally paying more for a PS5 with worse cooling and a shorter lifespan than the launch PS5 with a bigger heat sink.

    Another stupid move by Sony. Sigh… this honestly does not surprise me. These last two years have sucked as a PS5 owner. It basically feels like a souped-up PS4 Pro. What even is there to look forward to from Sony World Wide Studios?…

    Current management is ruining the Playstation brand, I’m surprised if Sony survives another generation after PS5.
    I’ve been a loyal customer since the PS1 generation!

    *Like many others have said, console manufacturers make their money on software! Sony has been raking it in.
    *With digital sales, Sony makes a cut from every third-party sale and microtransaction (Fortnite Microtransaction$, anyone?). This is just plain greed.
    *Sony is way too arrogant now to show up at E3 for several years now. Where is the hype? Last year’s “Showcase” sucked. Sony is trying to be like Disney trash.
    *Insomniac relegated to Marvel licensed game trash. No more original IP!
    *Sony shut down Japan Studios (their most unique studio!)
    *Half of all Sony games in development are Live Service Trash Games.
    *Naughty Dog woke trash. Cuckman = Anita Sarkesian in disguise.
    *Now this price hike, wth?

    I’m done with them and am never buying their exclusives ever again. Yes, even GOW:Ragnarok. I use to buy every single one. I’m not changing my stance until they relocate HQ back to Japan and revert their entire approach to what made them great during the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 generations. Fire Jim Ryan.

    Geez everyone will always whine about having to pay for something. What’s another $50 compared to $600 (digital)?
    At least it’s a one off cost to buy one. Everything else that’s increased in price worldwide, like food, is a weekly battle.
    Once you buy a ps5 and play it, all that bitter taste of cost will fade away :)

    I may totally skip this generation. First off , it’s still hard to find a PS5. The past 2 months I’ve had 2 opportunities but held back because; A – they were bundles and with the exception of the extra controller , I didn’t want the other stuff including the game which I wouldn’t be able to sell because it is a digital download. As well , all the extras were full price. Usually you save on bundles. B- There has been unconfirmed reports of a PS5 PRO , and I’d be mad as if that popped up shortly after buying a PS5. C- Unlike past generations , there is not a single game exclusive to the PS5 that I really want to play. Put that all together with $90 controllers and $90 games here in Canada , the PS5 doesn’t seem all too enticing. Total rip off.

    I love PlayStation as I have since the ps1. I already own a ps5 but this isn’t good news… I do hope it’s a temporary situation. You can’t be the only company to raise your prices while the competition refuses to. Figure something out. You didn’t raise prices the entire time during the pandemic, don’t do It now. The PS5 is doing fantastic, don’t let it get to your head.

    Consoles are already ridiculously expensive outside the US so this is just making things worse. Don’t know why you would get a ps5, at that point just get a pc. I guess you could still get one for the exclusives oh wait you’re already putting all your games on their.

    IMO…this is utter crap from Sony …and I’m a Sony fan boy….owned a PS1, 2×2, 3 and now a 4 (still the OG…)…and as much as I believe that it’s all about the games, instead of upgrading to a PS4 PRO or saving for a PS5 I bought a Nintendo Switch….and because I couldn’t get a PS5 and I wanted to experience “next gen” and let’s face it Game Pass super customer proposition value, I am now a proud owner of an #XBoxSeriesS… But it’s still all about the games… All my favorite and most played games are on my PS…they are either console or year one console exclusives… I didn’t choose not to buy a PS5 at launch…I neither could get one or if I did, being that I’m from Jamaica – which is neither considered a part of the Americas or LATAM (unless you add the Caribbean, where in limbo….) the import fees from the US is DOUBLE the MSRP for anything over 200USD…so this is purely a big….F….U…

    So I have a gaming PC and was saving up for a PS5 but now honestly its just not worth it, the lack of exclusives is worrying, games are more expensive for ps5 and now the console (that is never for sale) is going to cost more… I rather wait a year for the game to be released for pc anyways… I agree with comments that you should’ve at least showed a small improvement to compensate for this.
    You have no idea how much more expensive the ps5’s are in Latin American Countries they are already $800-$1000k here imagine how much they are going to increase the price just because they are paying more to acquire it.

    Wow Sony, didnt know you were so greedy. Been there day one for all your consoles, but as soon as this sub on PS Plus expires, not only will it be the first time my sub lapses since PS3, but it also will mark the last time I buy anything Sony.

    Xbox confirmed their prices aren’t going up and game pass is less per year than buying 2 or more of your first party games.

    The part of the price increase is acceptable to me, although it makes me feel very angry.

    But what makes me most angry is that SONY has no good supporting measures, allowing scalpers to use software to snap up and resell at high prices

    As a result, our foreign players can only continue to wait or be forced to buy from scalpers at higher prices

    Well i was wanting to upgrade from my OG ps4 but ill think ill hold off on principle since I live in the US and save for building a gaming pc that I’ve been wanting 2 do since my last one 15yrs ago. Shame on you Sony for making your already unaffordable machine more so during what seems could be one of the worst economic declines in decades. Dont use your PS brand to pay for other failing areas of Sony. And treat us all the same in this world seperated.

    The joke is that the price of the PS5 is already costs like 20% more than launch price here in Hungary (Sony Hungaria already raised the retail prices months ago) plus you can’t buy just a PS5 by itself they forcing you to buy a game or an accessory with it.

      And another thing pointing on their greed is that now they will launch an “elite” controller I bet it will costs about $200, instead of just releasing another cheap back button attachment for Dualsense. For most of us it’s plus 2 back buttons should be more than enough to spare our L3 R3 buttons…. Back button attachment for PS5 should exist from the start.

    Oh, well.

    I have all Sony consoles from PS1 to PS4 and the portables PSP/PS Vita too (along with many other companies’ consoles too). You might say I am/was a gaming collector (because I bought mostly retail/disk versions).
    I wanted to buy the PS5 day1 as I did with PS4 but then realized that it won’t really offer me something new (all cross-gen games, same all stuff, more expensive games, paid patches, etc). Also it was not that easy to get one, so in the end I didn’t and stayed with my PS4 until today.
    Now, I was planning to maybe get one in September even if I still really don’t need it and only could buy a expensive bundle (as they are not sold separately anymore), yet you made my decision even easier.

    When MS tried to screw me as a gamer back in 2013, I stopped buying their consoles and products and still haven’t bought anything until today (you can check my XBL profile). Nothing, nada…
    So how about a new PS5? I WON’T buy it because the only thing you corporate guys care about, is MONEY and how to get more by offering less (some might say its natural after all you are a company and these days business for you is going well).
    Well you won’t get my money, because you are so GREEDY… plain and simple.
    It seems I don’t need your console anymore.
    After all looking how things are going for/from you, sooner or later I will be able to play all your games at PC.

    Well done Sony.
    In this generation you did/doing well with all those decisions.
    Pissing off/on your loyal fans/gamers.

      Ageed. PS5 does nothing new, some new games on PS5 look even worse on PS5 than on PS4 pro.
      Had both on the same tv and the increase from 1800p to native 4k is minimal. Or at least very hard to spot for people.
      The PS5 has some dumb stuff I cannot ignore.
      I hate the main UI, there is still no integration with social. The controller is overhyped and works best when all rumble is completely turned off. The disc version looks ugly and pregnant and the download speeds are still worthless when downloading a game.
      Not to mention that almost every third party game looks much better on Xbox series X.
      Had this sad fact proven to me too…
      The PS5 is just a very disappointing piece of technology.

    Console making companies can offer for “free” (meaning very cheap) their machines and still make a ton of cash from games/services (subscriptions) sales, loyalties, etc.

    Raising the price of the PS5 is just pure corporate creed.
    They are not going to make that much money from this, instead I think that from actions like this they are loosing buyers from bad advertising and of course pissing gamers like me/us.

    Maybe Jim and his friends are put at Sony from MS as they are mainly from US*?

    Yeah,
    This is the new Sony. The team that’s is happy to increase the price for a console that is nowhere to be found.
    This will make sure Ps5 will never reach the amounts of PS4 sales.
    People should stay put on PS4, there is nothing worth playing on PS5 ATM, at least not at the current cost of a PS5. The PS5 games are more expensive and now the console is at the cost of a great PC (if you build it yourself).
    The PS4 will be my last PS console, I’m going over to PC when they stop releasing ganes on PS4.

    Jim Ryan has been nothing but the bringer of bad news for this PS generation, when they get a new team that is passionate about gaming again, I will return but at this state with this current team, they just are just bunch of money hungry dudes who don’t care about games at all.
    Show me a video of JRs trophy list and prove me wrong.

    Given the cost of living in the UK, I was already on the fence about buying a new PS5. Now I am seriously considering switching to PC gaming. I know the initial outlay can be more but the benefits seem to outweigh the ongoing console problems and that seems to be where gaming is heading. There are more games I can purchase on Steam, a better subscription on Xbox PC, and free games on Prime gaming and Epic game store.

    I have to say that this is a pretty disrespectful and anti-consumer move, Sony. Inflation has affected EVERY country, so why is USA exempt from the price increase other than for greed? Its already near impossible to find a brand new PS5 in local stores, and the scalping issue hasnt been resolved almost 2 years later. Prices of games have been increased (even digital copies) without any rational justification. PS4s and PS5s have been selling will and youre posting record profits every year, yet you decide to hurt your consumer and fanbase by increasing the price of a product, which is unprecedented and unheard of. If you were truly FOR THE PLAYERS, you would put more effort/energy/resources/money into actually ramping up production of the PS5, and reducing costs to make it MORE affordable, to increase your fanbase.

    Truly shocking practice which only pushes people like myself to consider moving to PC or Xbox. What benefit is there in purchasing a PS5 when Xbox Game Pass offers so much more value for money?

    It is crazy on the part of Sony to raise prices to Latin America where the user himself has to pay for the distribution of the console, pay taxes at customs and the dollar against the Latin currency its value is 4 times more

    Last time I had to deal with Sony Support, I realise they didn’t care one bit about their customers, the irony is I used to buy a lot of games but after that incident I buy hardly any, they’ve definitely lost money out of me from very poor customer satisfaction. I raised several complaints, but no body cares! :-(
