Introducing Backbone One – PlayStation Edition, an officially licensed controller for PlayStation

Inspired by the look of the DualSense wireless controller, play your PlayStation games on iPhone through PS Remote Play with ease.

I am thrilled to introduce Backbone One – PlayStation Edition, an officially licensed mobile controller for iPhone users.

The look and feel of the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition was brought to life by our design team in collaboration with the brilliant minds at PlayStation. The elegant colors, materials, and finishes are all inspired by the design of the PS5 console’s DualSense wireless controller, all the way down to the transparent face buttons and its visually distinctive, floating appearance. It feels right at home with the other products in the PS5 lineup, like the Pulse 3D headset, which you can connect directly to the Backbone One – PlayStation Edition.

Introducing Backbone One – PlayStation Edition, an officially licensed controller for PlayStation

Backbone One is the gaming essential for PlayStation on iPhone. If you have access to broadband internet and a PS5 or PS4 console, plug an iPhone into the Backbone One and instantly start playing your PS5 and PS4 games with the power of the PS Remote Play app—whether that’s out and about or even elsewhere in the home*.  See the PlayStation Remote Play website for more information: https://www.playstation.com/remote-play/

Backbone One also works wonderfully with App Store games and other game streaming services that support controllers, including Genshin Impact, Fantasian, Call of Duty: Mobile, and more. Players can download the Backbone App for a customized PlayStation experience. Inside the app, you’ll see various PlayStation integrations, such as custom glyphs representing the iconic PlayStation shapes and the ability to browse hundreds of game titles.

Players will also find a dedicated row inside the Backbone App with new releases and updates from PlayStation.

Backbone One is powered by your iPhone device, so charging is not required. For more information about Backbone One – PlayStation Edition, please check out: https://playbackbone.com/playstation.

We are thrilled to release Backbone One – PlayStation Edition and can’t wait for PlayStation fans worldwide to get their hands on it. The Backbone One – PlayStation Edition will be available in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom at launch, with more countries to follow. We hope you’ll enjoy it.

You can also visit PlayStation Support to find out how to set up Backbone One – PlayStation Edition for use with Remote Play on iPhone and other compatible applications.

*A PS4 or PS5 console, the Remote Play App and an account for PlayStation Network are required to stream your games to other devices. Remote Play can be used with a mobile data connection or Wi-Fi. Broadband internet with at least 5Mbps is required. For a better Remote Play experience, a high-speed connection of at least 15Mbps is recommended using either Wi-Fi or mobile data connection. Titles that require PlayStation VR or other peripherals such as PlayStation Camera are not compatible with PS Remote Play.  Availability of DualSense features such as audio output and haptic effects vary when using remote play on Android®, PC, Mac®, iPhone®, or iPad®; some features may not be available.

  • All fun and games, bt why it has a fixed iphone pin, instead interchangable Iphone/usb C? I can use this, i’d buuy it, but i don’t have iphone. So that’s a miss.

  • Guys don’t panic it’s also available for Android! I’ve been checking it out for myself as I’m not always at home with the console, and I’m seriously considering making the purchase in the next few weeks! I will hopefully have more information about it, and will be happy to report

  • Missing out a big part of the market with it only being for iPhone.

    • for real they don’t seem to understand androids now have USB type C ports just as their ps5 controllers I mean as a android owner I find that helpful since I can charge from the console too same with controller if I ever lose my wire

  • Why do they always start with iPhone, whilst they completely ignore the other (mostly Android) community…
It’s something I can’t understand and it is actually pretty insulting not to release this feature for both, if not all platforms… Reason enough for me to consider to skip this purchase. 😑

  • I think I understand why Apple, seeing as how Apple really dies have a lead in the mobile market. Though, not to make an Android version really feels like Playstation is marketing for Apple more than Android. A huge market of PS5 users are Android and feels like a mistep on Sony’s part.

  • Thank you for a great Idea guys, however, I personally dislike iPhone very much and I hope that there is something coming for Android smartphones, especially Samsung Note series

  • It’s a great idea in general!

    A few points…

Why does the D-Pad and Analog sticks positions differ from the PS5 controller?

Also a PS Android version would be great because with an educated guess I would say a higher majority of people into gaming would prefer an Android over an Apple device…

  • Yeah I was excited for like 2 secs then I saw the dpad was in the wrong place and it was for iPhone… -_- well I guess it all doesn’t matter anyway.

    • SAME LOL I’m all for playstation and their products relating to their consoles but having this be for iPhone only pisses me of

  • Would love he option to trade in my existing one for this one

  • Please make them for android phone’s 🙏 😔

  • I think this is a great idea I recently started using the remote play app and I do have some problems not because of the app but it’s because of me not usually using my phone to play games. But this backbone can actually help me with remote play so I’m already putting my money on the table can’t wait.

  • Who ever had the idea to flip the dpad and the analog stick doesn’t know playstation gamers

  • Why on earth would anyone buy this when you can just connect your phone via Bluetooth?

  • This is great and I’ve been watching the backbone for a while (I think according to their site you can get the android version) but not the PS android version. Is there any eta for a PS version that is Android enabled?

  • Apple support only that is ridiculous. I one company that refuses to be versatile or flexible with the rest of the world. I’ll pass.

  • Make this for android using type c connections aswell instead of only iPhone’s lightning connections. This would make more sense as all connections for ps5 are already type c and your not excluding loyal players that have android or other phones with type c.

  • Please do android phones!

  • Uhhmmm. Where’s the android version?

  • ok but what about android devices with USB type C ports???? :(

  • @ commanding tiger I was thinking the same thing! I hate a Xbone controller!!!

  • I’ll stick with my vita. These things have already flooded the market. Get a new handheld out. Not this garbage.

  • Make it like a PS controller and I will consider buying it it’s too much like an Xbox controller!

  • I hope you’re still working on a pro controller

  • This does not look like PlayStation. Why did you approve the analog stick in the wrong location? Sorry but definitely not buying because of that. I would like a proper new portable console however.

  • Would have bought 2, but we use android.

  • You lost me @ iPhone

  • Yess I’ve been saying us the Sony čommunity would love this Thnk u guys again for being awesome

  • Yeah this is just basically a PS knock off for the switch, it’s not even the PS button layout. How disappointing, I would of bought this if it was the original PS layout and if it was for Android… Why is it not for Android? People hardly buy Apple anymore. If PS really wanted to work on the controller, they would add more buttons.

  • I JUST WANNA TELL YALL AT PLAYSTATION THAT NOBODY AND I MEAN NOBODY USES REMOTE PLAY APP ON THEIR IPHONES AND ONLY IPAD ALSO THOSE THAT DO USE THEIR PHONES ARE THOSE WHO USE ANROID LIKE ME SO PLEASE MAKE THE RIGHT MONEY MAKIN DECISION DONT GO THE IPHONE USERS ROUTE AS A FIRST INSTEAD GO FOR BOTH >:( >:( >:( >:(

  • So they just assume we’re all members of the iphone cult? 🤔

  • Will you be able to play Grandtheft auto now

  • Sounds cool

  • Android version pls

  • Bought and returned. Will not work if you have any case on an iPhone 13 Max. Could be a paper case and it wouldn’t work.

  • Wish it was traditional PS analog layout but it’s cool. If this is the next vita then I’ll accept it.

  • Why is it just for IPhone? Do they not even know that the vast majority of people worldwide use Android phones over IPhones?

  • Why isn’t this available for Android and im not referring to the balck version that has the xbox buttons.

  • You need to make this for Android phones I will never touch or buy an iPhone

  • So meaningless for Android users

  • Can I stream on twitch on the go using this ? My twitch is Lani_f btw. Follow me :) streaming every day! ****

  • Can’t wait to try it out

  • What about Android SMH

  • Honestly, I lost interest when I seen iPhone. Didn’t bother reading the rest of it.

  • Make them for Android too specifically for Pixel phones please

  • Yay iPhone! When is launch and price?

  • Seems Sony has all but abandoned their Xperia phones (which were decent, albeit had many software issues, esp the X series (I’ve had an Xperia Play, Z3V, X1, X2). The X1 and X2 will often have the microphone stop working.

But they abandoned and sold Vaio, some of the best PC s.

With them doing all that, not making their own peripherals (only thing we got was an Xperia DualShock 4 mount, 2 versions), and son on…it looks like we’ll never get a new PSP / PSV type of thing. Wish that PS Tablet (supposedly there were patents for a PlayStation version of a Switch type device). Which is sad BC Sony is quality… Just when it stops working is the real issue (and lousy support).

  • There needs to be a way to block and report comments because “thehateugive1198” is being incredibly rude to people for voicing their opinions. They claim other people have anger issues when they are quite literally telling someone they are stupid because they don’t like iPhones. Sorry not sorry iphone DO SUCK. Maybe YOU should be the one to get help with your anger problems because it’s not ok to start attacking random people because you don’t agree with their opinion. YOU DON’T HAVE TO AGREE WITH THEM. Just keep your mouth shut if you can’t be a decent human being.

  • Lol really iPhones people that use iPhones don’t know how to use technology. Good luck getting them to learn how to use these controllers.

  • Razor Kishi still looks better. Works great with the psplay app you can get for $6, and it works for android.

  • I don’t really know what to say about this 🤔😕😐
