Gran Turismo 7: An update from Polyphony Digital

Details on player experience improvements, upcoming patches.

Dear Gran Turismo Community,

Thank you for your continued support and feedback on Gran Turismo 7, your voices have not gone unheard. I would like to apologize for the frustration and confusion caused last week with our patch updates which resulted in, not only a server outage but also adjustments to the in-game economy which were made without a clear explanation to our community.

We know that this is not the Gran Turismo experience you expect and we will be making a goodwill gesture in the form of a non-paid credit pack of 1 million Cr. available to those players who may have been affected*. You will see this hit your accounts shortly. Make sure you log into the game before April 25 to claim the credits.

The patch update previously deployed was intended to rectify an issue with inconsistent reward payouts within a part of the World Circuit Events.  But, to re-establish the intended equilibrium and provide more accurate rewards based on time investment and completion, it was necessary to recalculate the rewards system as a whole.

To improve the player experience, we will be rolling out a considerable patch in the beginning of April.  The number of events will be increased, and we will reestablish the reward system with greater balance throughout the game to benefit all players.

Updates which will come into effect beginning of April:

  • Increase rewards in the events in the latter half of the World Circuits by approximately 100% on average.
  • Addition of high rewards for clearing the Circuit Experience in all Gold/All Bronze results.
  • Increase of rewards in Online Races.
  • Include a total of eight new one-hour Endurance Race events to Missions. These will also have higher reward settings.
  • Increase the upper limit of non-paid credits in player wallets from 20M Cr. to 100M Cr.
  • Increase the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time.

Beyond this there will be a few additional patches deployed between now and the end of April which will add new cars and course layouts and make some other fixes.

Finally, we also want to take the opportunity to lay out some of the near-term updates we are working on. We can’t confirm an exact date or specifics yet, but will give advance notice via www.gran-turismo.com.

  • Increase the payout value of limited time rewards as we develop as a live service.
  • Further World Circuit event additions.
  • Addition of Endurance Races to Missions including 24-hour races.
  • Addition of Online Time Trials and awarding of rewards according to the player’s difference with the top ranked time.
  • Make it so cars can be sold.

We want to thank you for your continued patience and valuable feedback as we grow and evolve GT7 to make it as enjoyable and rewarding for as many players as possible.  We always want to keep communication lines open with our community so that we can work together to build the best racing experience possible.

*Limit 1 per person. Must own a digital or physical copy of GT7 for PS4 or PS5 prior to the publication of this post  (Friday, 25 March at 1:00am PST)  and log into Gran Turismo 7 between Friday, March 25 at 5:00pm JST/8:00am GMT/ 1:00am PDT and Monday, April 25 at 5:00pm JST/8:00am GMT/ 1:00am PDT to receive the free credit pack.

  • Great start. Can’t wait to sell some cars. Screw the microtransactions…. want my money? Expansion career mode. I want to start in a little dirt track and work my way up. Or maybe I take the street racing rout and start my journey there.

Anyways thanks for the apology of sorts. You still have some work to get my loyalty back. You are my all time favorite franchise and that hurt.

  • I’ve have spent 100 on this game to enjoy it and with all the updates I still can’t play the game, I’ve done all the steps to fix the game, but it still freezes and crashes my pay. It’s the only game that does it. Why hasn’t this been addressed yet. I’m so disappointed I’ve own every playstation that’s been released but never have I had a game that freezes and crashes everytime I play it. I own the digital copy and I’m probably missing out on certain car buys. Please can anyone give me clarity on when this will be fixed?

  • They are just trying to protect the curb appeal of this drab in game, live services leveraged sweat-fest.

This isn’t about existing customers, it’s about the veneer for prospective buyers especially when it goes on sale and they want to soak the goodwill of those players on the shop mobile game experience.

It’s a pass for me, i’ll be playing it for free from my library (they do ps5 games) and maybe in a few years i’ll pick it up for $10cad like i did gt sport, i just wish i hadn’t traded it back in for the $10 plus tax at gamespot because it is the better game. gt7 is recycled sport from in car to tracks and cars.

$90cad for the scam, even with this proposed patch is too much. No rtx in game, why did i even get a ps5? when you compare it to forza horizon 5 it looks remedial. Always online, the lame minimum roulettes. the cafe with jpegs and text and the stale music. the bogus review embargo ps to hoodwink everyone.

I will not support this for more than $20 even if it comes good in a few years. It’s embarrassing from a flagship series for Sony with the pedigree it had. after GT4 basically where it went off the road. Do not buy.

  • This whole blog post/update pretty much amounts to nothing. I’m surprised people are falling for it. How does anything in the update actually fix the issues the community have raised?

    1) They’re giving us 1,000,000 credits as an apology for the game not being playable for over a day. How does this fix the issue? There is no reason a game like GT7 should even require an online connection in the first place for anything other than the multiplayer component. (What they should be doing is making the game playable offline)

    2) Increasing the payouts in the latter half of the world circuit by 100% just fixes the issue where people were grinding the earlier events as they paid out more for the time spent compared to the latter events. It doesn’t seem like they’re planning to undo the changes made in 1.07 around overall payouts. You’re still earning about half the credits you did when the game was first released. (What they should be doing is increasing the payouts of all events back to their pre-1.07 equivalents AND applying additional increases to the latter half of the world circuit to reduce the need to grind earlier events, so overall we should be earning more credits compared to the launch version of the game)

    3) They’re not reducing the amount of credits vehicles cost, nor are they increasing the amount of credits you get for real world money. So DLC cars still cost exactly the same with the more expensive cars working out between $40-$200 of real world money. (What they should be doing is giving you about 10x the credits you currently get for real world money, so the more expensive cars would end up in the $4-$20 range)

    4) They’re ‘increasing the quantity of Used and Legend cars on offer at any given time’ – notice that they’re not increasing the time these cars will be on offer, so the FOMO effect is still exactly the same as it was before the patch. (What they should be doing is removing the time limit entirely, this game should not be using people’s fear of missing out to lure them into spending real world money, if there’s a legendary car someone wants, they should be able to work towards getting it without spending additional real world money or the fear of missing out. It’s an extremely scummy business practice and has no place in a game like GT7)

Eventually we’ll be able to sell cars, but we don’t even know if they’ll make it worth doing. I can’t comment on this until they implement the feature. But based on everything I’ve seen with this game so far, I’m guessing they’ll make sure trading in your vehicles isn’t worth doing.

Overall, I feel this update fixes none of the issues the community have raised. It’s just clever PR spin around changes they were likely planning to make anyway.

    • 1) YES! An online connection requirement for SINGLE PLAYER games are NOT ACCEPTABLE. I wish could get a refund for this game. I do not want to support developer who makes games like this.

  • Yeah looks like i’ll wait another month to buy the game.
I dont want the **** monitization in a 70 dollar (/80euro) game. I had no problem with paying 10 dollars more than previous gen if it ment that the microtransactions would go away. This is pure greed and you know it. I always was a Playstation (pretty hardcore) gamer since i was able to pick up a controller in the late 90’s. But monitization (scams) kills my excitement for modern games.

  • 1 – Always on-line for a single player game, just so you can force us to participate in your loot box roulette and control our rewards and prevent us from playing off our disc without having to update the game is absurd. Both the always on-line as well as the roulette BS need to go.

2 – I paid $80 to OWN a copy of GT7. At no point in time or anywhere in the game’s box was I informed that I would actually pay $80 for the “privilege” of renting the game from you and be completely dependent on you maintaining your servers and not breaking the game as you did to enjoy the SINGLE PLAYER Gran Turismo I PURCHASED and as it was provided to reviewers.

3 – Nothing will change the extreme shadiness of waiting until after the review period to introduce these extremely predatory, free to play level micro transactions.

4 – You need to either refund everyone for their purchase and make this a free to play game to continue it as it is or you need to restore our OWNERSHIP of the single player portion of the game which is what we have PAID for. No amount of free credits or “rebalancing” will make up or fix any of this.

5 – I own a copy of every Gran Turismo since the very first one on PS1 and you were able to do something not even EA, Activision or CD Projekt have been able to do: You have destroyed 25 years of stellar reputation and good will you had built with this community.

You should be ashamed of the extremely dishonorable behavior you have shown and for obliterating all of your employees and co-workers hard work in making Gran Turismo what it had been the course of the last 25 years. There has been absolutely no miscommunication of any kind and your intentions and actions were fully understood by the community.

You have chosen to trade excellence for greed and these two are absolutely mutually exclusive in the gaming industry. I will not be purchasing another Gran Turismo game ever again.

  • Hello I leave in China but I’m using the Japanese Playstation Store (that is where I bought my digital copy of Gran Turismo). When I launch the game it says that I need to update the game (1.09) to continue to play. While I’m seeing on Youtube that in most countries users have being able to download 25th March patches it is almost 1 say that I can’t get mine.
Is it because the patch is going to be distributing on different times according to the region?
Can somebody help me to understand what they are doing is becoming a joke

  • Honestly, **** this game and **** polyphony. Microtransactions plus always online on a $70 game is unacceptable. Maybe is time to put this franchise to rest or change the developer. A good game is more than just nice graphics

  • Confusion? Are they taking people for fools? There was no confusion, just a very aware and targeted attempt at getting gamers to pay more money for an already full price game. Saying you apologise for confusion really demonstrates how tone deaf this “apology” is. It’s quite shameful really and not pro-consumer at all. I hope things continue to change.

  • The cafe menu has been stuck only showing me my archive and not letting me advance, and has set me back to the beginning stages. All my stats are still available since update 1.08. After 1.09 it won’t let me access the online version and I’ve had to make a second PlayStation account specifically to play this game

  • Typical corporate speil. They’re not listening, they don’t care. They think they can buy you like this. Nothing will change. Fix this travesty or this game will die, your greed will kill it. I for one will not listen to your spell and lies

  • Here is how to fix the game. Remove all the micro transactions. Rebalance the races so that earning currency isn’t so grind heavy and lower the costs of all the cars. Lastly, remove the online only DRM. Do all these things, and the game will be fixed. Anything short of that means you’re wasting our time and theirs.

  • Please support the rumble on the Fanatec V3 pedals…missing that on GT game

  • Fix the grind and eliminate the microtransaction…

  • You’re still not fixing the rigged roulette tickets… >:(

  • Please fix the pit stop issue where you’re waiting and waiting to get gas. Why should you have to stop every lap and other cars do not?

  • It’s heart breaking that so many people are affected by not earning the credits they did..and many other important issues that have been fixed…personally I’m still waiting, after 2 weeks, numerous error reports, uploading videos to YouTube etc…to receive a suggestion (anything would be nice) to resolve the minor issue i have that is not being able to even play the game as it freezes and then crashes just before countdown, in any track environment, and subsequently closes the game!?! It has been deleted, downloaded and ps5 reset completely I don’t know how many times (approaching double figures now) and since the launch I have only been able to play the first 3 music rally tracks in full, but even they’re not possible when the full game is downloaded…..I’d like some response of some sort now, starting to lose a little patience!!

  • We need to get the “kick” feature back in online mode!! People drive reckless and respectless when kicking is not an option.

  • Please fix the views!!!
Cockpit view without a steering wheel.
I want to play in a sim rig but I cant if there are 2 wheels.
    Point of view.

  • Literally bought a PS5 for GT7 buy already gone back to GT Sport. Screw GT7 and polyphony for ruining it.

  • just joined nations cup had warm up and then black screen, thought it was all fixed, hopefuuly it will all be sorted by the next update or sooner ,

  • Did the update lower the crazy high prices of the new cars? The McClaren F1 was 18,500,000 Credits!
Are These crazy high prices for cars going to get LOWERED??

  • I too also have a comment about grand terrismo 7 is that under missions one of those I can’t remember at this moment I’m not in front of my screen is it gives me 0 seconds to complete a race To get gold which is a 1 on 1 race in manual transmission it’s mission 3 seconds to get gold this mission is impossible

  • Dear Poliphony Digital,
I would like to point out that the tickets have different rewards according to their color but also the number of stars, for my part I had draws with gold bars, if it was re-calibrated during the 1.09 update it is rather a good thing, stay positive, I also received a 1,000,000 Cr ticker proof that it’s not just microtransactions.
Otherwise I would like to know if GT7 will have content with vehicles like the 1997 Toyota Mark II JZX100 and the 1999 Chaser? Will we also see the Nissan R34 GT-R Blitz drift car, on the French side the Peugeot 308 GTI 2015/18? (on occasion of course I guess) I also dream of muscle cars 1968 Dodge Coronet, Charger (’72 or ’74 also for the Charger) maybe also a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS (it’s not just the Corvette) , 1970 Pontiac GTO because at this brand having just 1 Trans-Am ’78 is quite poor (’70 Trans-Am), we are talking about collection (?).
Here, I hope that my or our wishes will be fulfilled knowing that you should not dream too much anyway. Very good game to all, passionately entertained you!!!

    Cher Poliphony Digital,

  • Sony and their Devs need to understand the term “value proposition”, and the art of not abusing the good faith of customers. You will always get the devout blind followers of these brands, and it feels like they are relying solely on brand loyalty to sell their products, and feel they can abuse that loyalty. Time to get your heads out of the sand.

Let’s be real here, GT7 is NOT a cheap game, in Canada taxes in, it is $103 just to play it. Then beyond that they have the **** to immediately ask for more money so you can… avoid playing the game? I know this happens in a lot of games today, but that doesn’t mean it’s ok, it just means all those companies are **** and trying to take advantage of you. I mean they always try to see what they can get away with and then play it down and offer small incremental improvements over a long period of time, while still trying to make money off of you.

Video games are already a product in and of themselves that are layered in other costs for customers. They are expensive to buy as it is, you need the console/PC, you need the TV, you need internet, you need the sub service to play online, you need to buy the game, and then the game force feeds you it’s own store so you can buy the content in the game that you already bought? That’s beyond ridiculous, I just want to play a **** video game. Then even after all of that, you still can’t even expect games to be feature complete because they all launch unfinished or prematurely (BF2042 is a good example…). Sony can shove GT7 and any other game they make like it.

  • All sounds very exciting but I personally have been unable to progress past menu book 4 for over 2 weeks, despite the updates!! Is this bug ever going to be resolved or have I wasted £55 on an unplayable game and throw it in the bin. Have emailed help@playstation twice in last 8 days with no explanation or hint back from them with what is happening.

  • Okay I appreciate the gift to smooth over the hassle but that doesn’t fix the missing content I’m experiencing. I can’t advance because over half of my tracks have disappeared. I still have all my cars but no place to use them except for the arcade races. I tried just buying cars to complete the menu tasks but they don’t give the tracks back that I should already have. I tried to start over from scratch before the last patch but that just made things worse. Now, since 1.09 I can’t even start over.

  • 1 million credits is nice and all (seriously, thank you, it’s better than nothing), but you should not be “developing as a live service”.

There is absolutely no reason for GT7 to be a “live service”. People do not want this; your paying customers do not want this. This game being a “live service” benefits ONLY you and your corporate owner– It doesn’t benefit your customers in any way. In fact, it harms us (as evidenced by your metacritic user score).

It’s wildly unnecessary, and this “every-game-is-a-live-service-with-microtransactions” nonsense *is* going to cause a massive AAA video game industry crash. And when that crash happens, you will have absolutely deserved it, and you’ll have nobody to blame but yourselves.

  • I regret preordering the ultimate edition of this game.

  • Please add the drivers for Thrustmaster T500 RS. I rather spend my money on in game credit than having to purchase another sim wheel that still works great.

  • I want gran turismo 7 that the reviewers got and give high score, not this new “updated” game economy.

I think it’s scummy for sony/polyphony to give reviewers a game without mtx, and after getting high metacritic score, patched it with a different, more grindy game economy.

The gamers friendly sony in the early ps4 era is gone, I miss that era of sony.

  • Improve the graphics on PS5, I feel that they are not a great leap from GT Sport, make the Chase camera more dynamic with more options for the angle of view and zoom, the best was the GT3 chase cam , put public, birds, something of life on the game feels empy, show love to the rally the circuits looks unfinished, I hope it improves the PS5 version, make a really generational leap !!

Waiting for more classic circuits like El Capitan, Citta de Aria, SS Route 5, SS Route 11, Rome Circuit, Tahiti Maze, NY, Amalfi Coast, Autumn Ring, Eigher Nordwand, Eiger Nordwand K, Paris, Red Rock Valley, Chamonix, Tokyo Route 246, … God and the classic rally cars Mitsubishi, Subaru, Lancia etc, as well as the Nissan R390, BMW E89 Z4 GT3, more Touring cars like the beloved Opel Astra Touring Car (Opel Team Phoenix ), and add a real forest to the deep forest circuit!!!

  • This whole situation with GT7 is extremely disappointing and I hope people will vote with the wallets.
Sony knows what they are doing – the fact that MTX were unlocked only after reviews were out is because they knew it would affect review scores.
I’ve enjoyed PS games since the PS1 but I really don’t understand people who defend these practises – they are not in consumers best interests.
Unfortunately long term success always brings out the worst in companies and I’m afraid we are now back to PS3 era Sony.

  • Why is there not a button to reset the tuning for a car! Should be easy. And really again no qualifying? Shame… But great game love it.

  • Hey Dear, here is a list with some improvements ideas:
    – The AI of the cars in an arcade races should be better, if i do a custom race with my same car, i always win, we need some competitive rivals so we could race with some fun. i saw that the rival just were cruising in the track. if it is a race, is a race!. tha same happens when i modified a car, i need virtual modified opponents, for more competitive.
    – the engines in the cars we shoul be buying an engine (not as gift) for one car to put in another, big customization.
    – we need more turbo and Supercharger Sounds, and a kg preassure controling. so it can be more real sounds.
    – We need more visuals for cars, as carbon fiber hoods, and more.
-the car wash we need virtual person who wash the cars more realistic, so it could be more funny, te oil changes too.
    – if we will sell cars be sure that you put an online auction.

    Thanks!

  • This game will be one of my firsts for PS5. Please be patient people. This game is still young like any other game. No game is perfect the day it releases so keep your expectations low on these games. M’kay?

  • Add motion data support please! I know it’s a select few who probably have seat/wheel rigs even capable of this, but it’s something that would push me over the tipping point for investing in the whole seat/pedals/feedback wheel market. Sure there are PC and some console games (primarily Xbox) out there that do this, but they are not GT. I’m also looking forward to PS’ VR 2 headset and would love to see some marriage of those two worlds within GT7 and beyond

  • Cafe progression gone again after update. Being online for campaign mode totally not required.

  • Next they make you pay for insurance transprt fees licenseing fees you need to pay for your gas that is directly tied to the cost of crude oil you will be randomly disqualified from races by your car not showing up to the event you were going to, also those vehicles may also show up damaged well that is if you are even abel to get the car scence there will only be be the same amound of physical cars as digital cars and if you real life tied car gets wrecked or stolen your car will be unuseable all only on the bid to provide a more realistic driving experience

  • I’d be happy to know track weather conditions PRIOR to starting a race so I can tune my car accordingly. I shouldn’t run a lap at Nurburgring and it starts pouring only to back out, change tires, come back and the next run is bone dry. Majorly disappointment there.

  • you just killed a franchise! Why the hell did you allow Gran Turismo7 to be always online??|!! and on top of that ! MICROTRANSACTIONS!!!!!! I love the series so much and was hyped to play gt7 on ps5 and yet here I am now NOT BUYING IT to show how I am against those shitty always online and microtransactions!???
Seriously, I would have understand the microtransaction party since you know its always about making money these days . . but you also making it always online for all features to be available on a $70 game???? WTF …!! i hope gt8 will be better than this then

  • OK, but that does not address the online requirements for GT7. I would have not spent $75+ on a new game if I knew it was going to have online DRM requirements to play the single player game. Online matches I understand but needed to be online for a single player game is unacceptable. I wish I could get a refund for this game. I DO NOT WANT TO SUPPORT AND DEVELOPER THAT MAKES TO BE ONLINE IN-ORDER FOR ME TO PLAY THE SINGLE PLAYER GAME

  • Sigh! It’s obvious that you guys are gunho on the heavy grind and microtransactions

I won’t be buying GT7 until it becomes dirt cheap then. Hopefully by then you guys get your anti-consumer heads out of your rears.

  • I’m stuck in limbo with no access to any tracks, or the bulk of the world map. This is turning out to be the worst game I’ve ever spent money on as I’ve already lost all progress once and had to start over. Tried to email polyphony but the site is in Japanese, unfortunately I don’t understand it. I have no idea what to do or why this happened.

  • One of the best sim racing games. But way too expensive if it would be possible to return the game I would. I do not like that they change the in game currency that high after few updates. This will be the last GT game in my library. 25 years for playing it is big disappointment.

  • The only reason I would ever buy a PS4 is GT7, but now I’m need more patience to see whether the cost of long-term ownership of this game is really paid off.

  • How can i get a refund for gt7?

  • I’m tired of calling out Sony Interactive Entertainment and its first-party studios for these planned monetisation strategies.

Take the recent debacle concerning Horizon Forbidden West in addition to Gran Turismo 7.

I don’t for a second believe that careful costing strategies had not taken place throughout the development of these games.

As a result, these companies knew exactly what they were doing and hoping for. i expect better, and because of this SIE has helped me make the final decision to take my custom elsewhere.

What next will we get screwed on, with a ‘correction’ patch, or some other PR spin. No thank you. Not going to wait around to find out.

    Bye!

    Former Customer.

  • So, you sneakily wait until after the reviews to nerf the credits, add in the microtransactions, make a half-hearted gesture to ‘fix’ these problems which you yourself caused and then think it’s job done, so you can pat yourselves on the back? And apparently some people are taking the bait.

First off, remove the cap on player money. It doesn’t need to exist. If a player can earn 200m in-game through in-game play, then good for them. Why limit it? The only reason is greed – to encourage people to buy more with cash. There’s literally no reason for it to exist, and doing so requires you to store two separate values – paid cash and non-paid, so you can’t try pretending it’s a “memory” or “performance” related issue to having too much money.

Secondly, remove the always-online requirement. No, I don’t care that saves are online because that’s just a weak excuse not to offer local saves. There’s no reason why you can’t have a separate online and offline profile – many games have done so before and many more will again.

Thirdly, one-hundred percent increase? On average? And only in the latter-half? That’s pathetic. Everything is just there to push people towards cash purchases, which is an agregious practice in a fully priced game. Something you’re fully aware of, something that’s been condemned before, and something I will continue to abhor as long as I draw breath.

Golden rule – never tie in-game economy into real cash purchases. It makes the game pay to win for the rich, and grind for months to be even remotely competitive for everyone else. It’s disgusting.

  • It’s too late for me to trust Polyphony and Sony. There is no telling when rewards will be diminished again and using an excuse along the lines of “we want to make sure there is fair play with all the players”, yet won’t apply that excuse when buying credits. The fact they’re taking action now means they are not really doing it for the players. If the players were their top priority, they wouldn’t have been shady with reviewers and their last patch in the first place.

I’m sorry but I’m no longer a fan of Gran Turismo, lost all respect for the game. Don’t even want to play the old games anymore.
