UPDATE: Pre-order Horizon Forbidden West now: Collector’s and Digital Deluxe Editions detailed

All pre-order details for this awe-inspiring continuation of Aloy’s journey, coming February 18 2022.

Thursday was to be a celebration of Horizon Forbidden West and the amazing team at Guerrilla working to deliver it on February 18, 2022. However, it’s abundantly clear that the offerings we confirmed in our pre-order kickoff missed the mark.

Last year we made a commitment to deliver free upgrades for our cross-gen launch titles, which included Horizon Forbidden West. While the pandemic’s profound impact pushed Forbidden West out of the launch window we initially envisioned, we will stand by our offer: Players who purchase Horizon Forbidden West on PlayStation 4 will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version for free.

I also want to confirm today that moving forward, PlayStation first-party exclusive cross-gen titles (newly releasing on PS4 & PS5)–both digital and physical*–will offer a $10 USD digital upgrade option from PS4 to PS5. This will apply to the next God of War and Gran Turismo 7, and any other exclusive cross-gen PS4 & PS5 title published by Sony Interactive Entertainment.

— Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment

*To upgrade an eligible PS4 game on disc to the digital PS5 version, you will need a PS5 console with a disc drive. PS4 game discs can’t be used with the PlayStation®5 Digital Edition.

Horizon Forbidden West is coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles on February 18, 2022! We were ecstatic to finally be able to share the release date with you last week during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, and to see everyone’s reactions to our news.

Pre-orders for the game are available now across the globe, so we wanted to share more details about the various editions that you can get your hands on.

  • Thank you Sony for listening to us and reversing your decision.

  • I agree completely with ComandingTiger’s idea to pay $70 and getting disc and digital copies of games.

  • PAYStation ???? For the PAYers? I feel sad to be a PS5 players… i enjoyed much more ps3/ps4 than ps5 actually… ps5 looks like just a machine to steal my money, not a game console.

  • Where is the $10 upgrade for my original PS4 copy of Ghosts Of Tsushima? I have yet to play the game and don’t want to be forced to spend extra on the expansion to get the PS5 version.

  • I’ll just by the standard edition.

  • Sony have backtracked on this now (for this one game at least) which is a good thing but it was just greed expecting PS4 users to buy the same game again when they move to PS5, for what is the same game at its core but with some of the settings turned up. I hope this is not a sign of Sony becoming complacent. They once totally dominated with the PS2 but with the PS3 they ended up in a distant third place for the majority of the 7th console generation, as many PS2 users switched to Xbox 360 and never owned a PS3. That could easily happen again with the PS5 if Sony aren’t careful this time around.

  • Fire Jim Ryan. Fire him. You gave up Jack Tretton that was expertly bringing the PS3 out of the crap-hole it was in to where PlayStation is today, and Jim Ryan doesnt care hes flushing all that down the toilet, Euros cant run a business just as Kalinski tried to tell SEGA of Japan they were gonna lose their fanbase as did Stoller, and what happened? I mean really, look at where PlayStation was yesterday and what Jim Ryan has done today, and what has he done about scalpers, nothing.

    FIRE HIM.

  • £10 to get upgrade patch for ps4 to ps5 version are u insane , pc games in general play on all kinds of hardware but lets say u just upgraded to latest pc tech do u think pc devs charge for new patches so there games work on latest hardware? Answer is most deffinatly no so the ps4 to ps5 is just better motherboard slightly better cpu/gpu/ram and ssd so all ps4 games should run the same but faster and in 4k just like pcs do ,its an upgrade in hardware to run everything faster and if sony do actually start charging for there upgrade patches then it looks like a lot of ppl will be bye bye sony and hello microsoft or hello new pc , i for one will be selling my ps5 disc version if sony or any developer trys to charge for a patch that might add hdr or unlock fps from 30 to 60 say its not actually hard to code this its just lazyness and greed and it looks like loyalty to sony or developers mean nothing

  • I always regretted now having the collector edition for the first game.
But no disc? I thought that was a mistake at first.

  • Where the hell are you Jim? It’s clear you’re still “missing the mark”. Your customers are telling you exactly what our problem is with your horrible policies and you’re refusing to learn. I know you’re just hoping this will blow over but we won’t stop and we won’t forget.

    – All cross gen games must be $60 with a dual entitlement right on both platforms.

    – No more being charged for PS5 specific features when you just charged me for the hardware.

    – All collectors editions must come with both a physical and digital sku.

None of this is hard and none of it is too much to ask. You wanna charge me $70? Well you’ve got to earn that by creating a ps5 unique experience. Until then, I’ll buy no PlayStation games at launch. I’ll withdraw my support from PlayStation as you seem to have withdrawn your support from us.

If you can’t do your job right, you shouldn’t be in the position.

  • I feel really let down and kind of cheated by the CE not having a disk. Like the simple solution would have been to add a digital code that’s linked to the disk. I’m paying 300$ for the Regalla edition. And I honestly don’t understand the point in making a steel book and no disk to come with it….though it for decoration….its a decoration piece that’s meant to carry a disc and nothing else. I hope Sony changes their minds on this. I really hate feeling forced to have to go digital when the PS5 has both options for digital and disk. this sucks

    • It’s because the gaming industry wants to transition from physical media to digital media so they control 100% of the sales and don’t potentially lose money from the third-party market. One way they are forcing that is by making digital exclusive content. It’s honestly one of my least favorite business practices of the gaming industry as of late, because
1). It is clearly just an attempt to get more people to buy digital games over physical.
2). It wants to screw over consumers that want to resell games.
3). That digital exclusive content isn’t adding anything to the game, it’s just arbitrarily locking players from it.
      &
4). It takes up more space on the console’s hard drive, which isn’t big enough to store a whole lot of games to begin with. I have a 4tb external hard drive connected to the PS5, and even with all that space, it fills up fast. It’s now has less than 1tb of storage. If game companies expect consumers to go 100% in the next couple of decades, they need to have bigger storage capacity than what they currently offer.

  • Wow really, no disc(s) in the collector editions!?? Looks like I will be canceling my Regalla pre-order and just wait for the disc version to go on sale.

    • I should also add someone at Sony really missed the mark with this one. “Collectors” are the people who collect discs and occasionally collection editions for games they really enjoy but without a disc there is zero point to buying a collector edition. People who prefer digital generally do so because they want “less stuff” around so this all makes zero sense.

  • I really need to ask a question to Sony and Guerilla Games: Just what the hell is WRONG with you people? almost $300 dollars for a collectors edition and NO DISK? A DIGITAL soundtrack? Do you people just enjoy taking a huge dump on your own fans every chance you get? Do all you people learn nothing every time a game company pulls this kind of thing and the fans make thier extreme displeasure known?
Tell me, what is the point of including a steelbook GAME case with no GAME in it? You do know what the word collect means, right? No one collect bytes, people. Was it just soooo expensive to slap some CDs together and put together a few cardboard sleeves? Would the box have just been too darn heavy with a couple of disks in it?
Or, did you just see all that money you could NOT spend on your end and collect on ours?

  • Where can I even preorder the Regalla edition? It simply doesn’t show up in Playstation store. If you’re so keen on earning money then at least provide us with a way to help you do so
