Two new DualSense wireless controller colors hit shelves starting next month

Get ready for Midnight Black and Cosmic Red.

Since the launch of the PS5 console last November, we’ve been delighted to hear all the amazing feedback and experiences about the DualSense wireless controller from the PlayStation community.

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce two new colors that will be joining the DualSense controller lineup starting next month: Midnight Black and Cosmic Red. Midnight Black features two subtly different shades of black with light grey detailing to reflect how we view space through the night sky, and Cosmic Red offers a striking black and red design inspired by the unique vivid shades of red found throughout the cosmos.

DualSense

The DualSense controller marked a radical departure from our previous controllers by delivering innovative features like haptic feedback and adaptive triggers*. The features weren’t the only noticeable transformation – the bold, two-toned color choice was also a significant pivot from our previous controllers. As this marks the first release of new colors for the DualSense controller, we asked Leo Cardoso and Satoshi Aoyagi from our design team to share some additional insights about the color choice and selection process:

“Our goal is to always find designs that will surprise and entice our fans, and these new colors are the result of an extensive selection process. We wanted the new controller colors to complement each other, as well as the original DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console, so we designed the colors around the theme of ‘galaxy’ as it felt like a natural progression from the original PS5 and accessories designs.”

– Leo Cardoso

“Both Midnight Black and Cosmic Red feature a subtle blue hue, that produces unique shades of red and black. A blue hue is also present in the original DualSense wireless controller colors, so all three colors complement each other nicely. The controller’s button colors and detailing has been tailored to complement the new colors as well.

We hope these new additions will bring further joy and excitement to our fans’ gaming experience.

– Satoshi Aoyagi

  • The red one looks awesome!

  • Why does the red one cost $5 more? No thanks

  • Angry_Accordion

I realize the situation is more complicated than a simple shortage, but I question the push for custom peripherals when your customer base can’t purchase the actual console they go to.

    • It’s a different supply line. All they are changing is the outer shell, so it doesn’t affect availability of anything.

  • The difference in feel and quietness of the PS5 controller compared to the Xbox is night and day. Let alone the vibration and triggers that are sensitive to pressure. Can’t wait to someday get the red!!

  • Cool to see new colors so quickly. Personally I want a dark blue and black combo. Also want some official colored side panels!

  • With the red controller, how am I supposed to know when my hands are bleeding from gaming too hard? :S

  • Please please release a DualSense Back Button Attachment!! Players with accessibility issues with thumbs and hand pain really need them!!! Please Sony!!!

  • Please allow us to use our Dualshock 4 controllers in PS5 games. Blocking them is disrespectful to your players. There is no technical reason why you should be blocking them when 1) they are recognized by the PS5 and work flawlessly otherwise 2) You can play PS5 games on your phone via remote play by using a DS4 or even touch controls instead of a Dualsense 3) Someone can share play PS5 games on your PS5 with their DS4. 4) You can disable the trigger and haptic functions of the Dualsense at the system level. You’re providing every possible way to play PS5 games without using a Dusalsense except directly on your own console. I can’t even jump from a PS4 game with a DS4 into Share Factory to share a clip, because it’s considered a PS5 game. It’s quite silly at best and insulting at worst. Clearly this isn’t about compromising some kind of gameplay vision. We get you want people to buy new Dualsense controllers, which is fine, people will do that anyway when you make new colors like this, but not everyone can/cares to drop $70+ so their friends and family can hop into a session. Keep making good use of the Dualsense in games, and most people will still use them, but have some kind of balance or consideration for your customers who need to use the DS4 for comfort or cost reasons when it works with the system. It’s not going to bankrupt you.Thanks.

    • As much as I myself have no need for this. I 100% agree that it should work. There’s no technical reason for them not to work. This kinda leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

  • Please have full ps5 availability before offering the next color controller 🤔😶🎟

  • These should have been DAY ONE options.

  • Hopefully for the console has the improvement too. Full midnight matte black forever. 🤤

  • Midnight Black is definitely going to be the next dualsense controller I purchase.

  • Just release the white controller with coloured buttons.

  • Just pre-ordered the cosmic red

  • Уважаемые Sony , когда же уже можно будет купить приставку нового поколения ps5 у нас в магазине нет возможности купить (( Выходят новые игры , а на ps4 они не поддерживаются (

  • Please make blue, purple and pink! in the next 6 months too, not 7 years like you did with DualShock 4. lmaoo

  • Thank you for your inovation. A back button attachement will make the dualsense the best controller in the market in my opinion. Please give us a back button attachement.

    Thanks !

  • how long until pre orders end anyone know?

  • Oh dang, now I know that grey + black 2 tone is gonna be amazing

  • headhunter70532

    I love the red controller

  • Beautiful colors… Any plan on releasing matching side panels? I’d love to buy the official ones if available… Or should I just go for dbrand’s darkplates?

  • Looks Good, i’ll Be Waiting For Green & Purple Controllers.

  • When we going see more PlayStation 5 back in stores ??????? This is crazy that no can find a PS 5 anywhere and if you do find one the prices are way up!!! And also which one of your Consuls our best desk our digital???

  • Why now? I already have 2 of the standard ones! I have no money for these! :(

  • midnight black ps5 controller pre ordered can’t wait now we just need ps5 dynamic custom themes plz Sony

  • New colours are cool and all, but the REAL question is whether or bot you’ve corrected the drift issue. Because WTF good are colours if you still have to replace or ship away your controller every month?? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

  • NinjaRemoteplay

    I want the blue controller

  • Fix the drift? Going to provide free S&H for controller issues? If not.. You have no right to release new colors.

  • For your eyes only.

  • I’ve got no stick drift issues as long as it doesn’t happen to mine I’m good

  • These will hit shelves before the console.

My money is still waiting since announcement.

  • How about fixing the joystick drift problems instead of 2 different controllers?!

    Greedy af

  • GREAT!!!! Now.. how’s about some Consoles to go with them (ANY COLOR!!!!!)

  • Assuming it’s too obvious of a next step, release these same colors in the console side plates. Then, come out with a new line of controller colors and do the exact same thing again. Simple, gimmicky, highly profitable.

  • So close, both of these colors look fantastic. For a celebration, I’m giving one of these controllers away.

  • Why is the red one 10$ more?
