Oddworld: Soulstorm arrives on PS4 and PS5 April 6

PlayStation Plus members can download the PS5 version at no extra cost on launch day.

Hi, I’m Lorne Lanning, co-founder of Oddworld Inhabitants, and today I’m excited to share big news about Oddworld: Soulstorm and debut new footage in today’s State of Play.

When I start the creative process, I sometimes find myself dreaming of the day when I can share my creation with you. That dream is nearly a reality because Oddworld: Soulstorm will launch on April 6th on PS4 and PS5. All of us at Oddworld are excited to share the second chapter in Abe’s quintology with you.

I’ve said this before, but it is worth repeating, your support helped us more than I can put into words. Not only has your support helped us, but the support we have received from PlayStation, Epic Games, Unity, and Microids has been vital.

To all of you, thank you!

The other big news I want to share with you is that Oddworld: Soulstorm is one of your PlayStation Plus games for April 2021. PlayStation Plus members will be able to download the PS5 version of the game at no extra cost during that time.*

Oddworld: Soulstorm arrives on PS4 and PS5 April 6

In Oddworld: Soulstorm, you reprise the role of Abe the Mudokon, accidental hero turned leader of a growing revolution. We first met Abe in the first game of the quintology, Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty. Abe is a floor-waxer at Mullock the Glukkon’s RuptureFarms meat packing plant.  He accidentally learns about Molluck’s plan to turn Mudokons into tasty treats. He wants to save himself, but he’s compelled him to try to save everyone. His selfless act is the spark that sets the revolution ablaze.

Soulstorm is the second game in quintology. In it, you will explore massive cinematic scale and weird and wonderful 2.9D environments filled with breathtaking visuals. 2.9D lets you venture into the world. It creates greater scale and action. Adds depth and immersion.

The sense of immersion is even greater thanks to game changing haptic feedback. You can feel Abe’s heartbeat during suspense filled action sequences, made possible by PlayStation’s revolutionary DualSense wireless controller.

Try to save the more than 1,000 Mudokons. There is power in many. They will help you solve puzzling puzzles. And, you can harness their collective energy.

As you traverse the 2.9D environments, you will scavenge for necessary resources by pickpocketing enemies, looting lockers, and sifting through trash cans. Exchange them at vending machines to get products that you can use or even, for the first time in Oddworld history, give to your followers. This gives you more agency in how you chose to conquer the game’s many challenges.

And there will be times when you need an armed army of Mudokons behind you. The oppressive Glukkons have other plans and will use every means at their well-funded disposal, from propaganda to brute force.

Abe’s most iconic ability, his mystic power of possession will allow you to take control of your foes and use their strength and weapons against them. Possession can be used to activate locks and switches to gain entrance to restricted or hidden areas in the game.

The Oddworld universe is diverse. Some areas will require hard core action and others will demand stealth and planning. From dark and dangerous caves to heavily fortified industrial sites or ancient lands and ruins, there are plenty of opportunities for you to decide if you need to employ force or take a more passive approach. The choice is yours.

Soulstorm won’t be easy. You and Abe will be hunted by a powerful army, backed by a shady and wealthy corporation. If that wasn’t bad enough, you will face even more dangers in the form of natural obstacles, ancient traps, and industrial hazards to dodge, cross and avoid if possible.

Abe’s journey is one of hope and freedom. The game has a rich and engaging narrative that is very dark with a twisted sense of humor that shines a light on the ironies that exist in the human condition.

Your actions in-game will decide the fate of Abe and all you manage to liberate along with way.

Save them Abe! Save them all!

  • Nice giveaway on PS+ for April, good job Sony.

    • Since I started freelancing I’ve been bringing in (((($)))90 bucks/h… I sit at home and i am doing my work from my laptop. Th℮ best thing is that i get more time to spent with my family and with my kids and in the same time i can earn enough to support them…You can do it too. Start here——bit.ly/3qIEfWu

  • Awesome that it will be free with PlayStation Plus in April! I got New ‘n’ Tasty! from PS Plus too!

Speaking of PS Plus.. what are the free games for March?

  • I am a huge fan of the Oddworld games, so i am all in, roll on April :)

  • Free PS+ game in April for PS5, that’s pretty awesome.

That’s what I thought it might of meant during State of Play, but I wasn’t sure.

  • Soulstorm looks phenomenal and it’s a day one PS5, PS Plus game. Adds to the list of Bugsnax, Control Ultimate, Destruction All-Stars and more that came to PS+ the day they launched on PS5.

Sony is killing it with Plus. Basically, Games With Gold is an advertisement for Gamepass at this point. Microsoft needs to drop GwG and add online play to GP.

    • Online is in Game Pass it’s called Game Pass Ultimate

    • So its not “game pass”, its a completely different tier or sub. In PS Now, the online play part is called….. PS Now. You simply do not need Plus to play online and nobody ever talks about this.

  • I figured this would be on PS+ when it launched just like the last Oddworld was. I fully expect that most of these other indie titles from these State of Plays like Solar Ash, FNAF, Stray, etc will also launch on PS+. Kena being the exception as it launches before the PS+ day.

  • It’s so awesome that oddworld is going to be on ps plus

  • Thanks Sony I got new n’ tasty on the epic games store so I can’t wait.

  • Thank you guys, this month gonna be awesome.
    I don’t have ps5 so far yet!!
But collecting ps5 games is so fun just like i was collecting Yu gi oh cards!!!

  • Best PS+ pick since the Puppeteer for me! Was actually on the fence about this but I’m less inclined to buy indies or push them back indefinitely. Now I don’t have to worry about missing out on this. Can’t wait to experience that atmosphere again and I love the 2.9D aspect, always love a lot of stuff happening in the background.

  • I’ve been waiting to play this game for so long! I can’t wait to see what they do with it! 👍

  • Dear Sony,

“PlayStation Plus members can download the PS5 version”
    Well, F U

    Regards: all ps4 owner

    • “Regards: all ps4 owner”, who will what, get nothing in April as opposed to Soulstorm?

Welcome to the 20s, the new age of self entitlement. A time where people get to learn brand new things………. that they somehow never knew about………. like the age old annoyance of scalping lol.

    • You can still redeem the game even without a PS5 so frankly you have nothing to complain about. No one should be playing the PS4 version anyways. Only a fool would play an inferior version of a game just so they don’t have to wait a little bit. Just like people buying Miles Morales on PS4, makes no sense unless they never plan to get a PS5 and if they don’t, they’re not relevant enough to be entitled to anything. Stop whining.

  • Nice, psplus is good again, just like psplus on ps3 :)

    • Plus on PS3 rarely gave us games at launch though, you mean like psplus on PS4.

    • To be fair, Ps Plus didn’t start til the end of PS3s generation, like 2012 is when we started getting great games monthly so it’s a little unfair to compare. That’s also why PS Plus on PS5 has been so shocking. It is miles better than PS4 PS plus was at launch without a doubt. Though that’s also an unfair comparison because PS5 is backwards compatible with PS4, and PS4 wasn’t with PS3. Eitherway, I’ve never once thought about letting my PS Plus lapse. It’s way too good of a value even when I don’t play anything online. IMO it’s foolish to not have it at this point

  • Been a fan of Oddworld since the 90’s. This is going to be glorious!

  • I still want Hand of Odd…

    😝

  • How much is the game for non-playstation plus members, and will it come to disc?

    • I’m curious too. I would’ve bought this if not on PS Plus. Pretty epic that we get it for free which is why I don’t understand how there’s anyone without PS Plus. I do understand wanting physical games though. I just read somewhere that if the PS4’s clock battery dies, you won’t be able to play digital games anymore. Perfect example of why digital games are glorified rentals. I still buy them regularly but I’m not a fan of the limitations at all.
