PlayStation 5: Launch Day Ordering Update

Launch-day sales will be online-only this year, so please plan ahead.

Hi all – the launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us! In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.

    Regarding the Sony Preorders: If I’m not chosen to receive the opportunity for a preorder, please don’t take that as an invitation to send me unsolicited offers for a credit card instead. I don’t know what the evaluation criteria was for the preorder invitations, but seeing a credit card offer when I was hoping for a chance to preorder is insulting. Especially since I’ve seen it more than once.

    I’ve been a PS fan since I was a teenager and got my first console as a high schooler in 1995. I’ve purchased every console at launch. I currently work as a Lead in game development and that’s how PS influenced me as a teenager. Fast forward to 2020, this is the first launch where I couldn’t find a console. I was passed up on the console allocation for fans even though my PS Account was created in 2006 and I spent thousands of dollars on this brand. Every time I tried to get a console it was yanked from my online cart. All the bots and scalpers are getting the consoles and selling them for $1000+. Just look at eBay. How does this help legit people who want to buy this console?

      It’s like Sony PlayStation does not care for it’s true fan base they only care about driving up demand… a tactic that’s such a popular brand does not need, your fan base is here, your units will sale in high volume without such publicity stunts.

    You know what’s sad Playstation is that you guys don’t care if the ps5 got Took-in out of peoples carts and the website crashed because of bots taking over its ridiculous that you guys couldn’t make it where you can pre-order it again that way it was fair for everybody or at least hold onto what you guys had because of the Pandemic but that’s my input hopefully you guys make more . And we are able too get for are kids before Chris Max thanks .

    Great plan, take a gander at EBay right now almost 10k ps5 all being sold for 1000+ have fun not selling any PS5 games this holiday season or maybe figure out a way to stop the poachers.

    Sony cares nothing for their customers whatsoever, the 10,000+ E-bay listings for 1,000-2,000 dollars tells you all you need to know. Plenty of sellers have multiple units as well. I’ve seen up to 10 avail from same seller. I’m disabled and gaming and movies are my main way of enjoyment (most def not by choice) and I still hobbled up to a store for a pre order chance, was 10th in line but they only had 8 avail. missed out…. apparently missed out online losing to bots repeatedly as well. Was logged into the Sony direct site, put in a que, never got any chance just a msg we are sold out. Over and over Covid-19 or not I have been defeated and feel I have been discriminated against somehow by not even being allowed any chance. Its not my fault I’m physically disabled and its also not my fault I’m not rich or able to have a bot purchase for me. You have failed me after being an avid fan/customer since ps1 day one. This drop of the ball is more than likely the last straw making me a PC only gamer from now on.

    Ps5 look nice. But I have to give sony a 👎 how they released it millions of people cannot get the system yet,having to stay online all day waiting on alerts and still not able to get the ps5 millions of people are very disappointed and Sony Playstation not moving there products out better and faster 👎🤷🏾‍♂️

    this is not fair Sony not at all all these bots pigging up these systems wen parents kare trying to get one system for there kids and yet we haveto deal with bot hackers that get a warehouse full and then turn around and sell these for $800 to over a$2000 which should not be allowed Some people cant afford this price gouging and you guys tell the regular people 1 per house hold but we have these people getting warehouse full of these ps5’s something is wrong here don’t you think .

    It’s ridiculous what sony has done in driving up demand and allowing individuals to obtain multiple units and reselling them for thousand of dollars. Most of those people couldn’t be PlayStation fans, most probably work for Sony or are affiliated in some way. Never considered switching before until now.

    I am saddened by the fact that I wasn’t able to procure a PlayStation 5 after it launched, but I am glad that Sony took people’s well-being into account. I respect that.

    Personally, I was most looking forward to the releases of Gran Turismo 7 and a new Spyro the Dragon game (according to rumors). I’ll have to wait until those games are released before I can play them anyway, so I don’t mind waiting a bit longer to get a PlayStation 5. Both games will be worth the wait, I am sure.

    I hope that everyone is staying as safe as possible these days.

    After reading a few other comments from disgruntled Sony fans, I realize that my previous comment might have been a bit insensitive. I apologize. I didn’t mean to seemingly disregard your comments, and I’m sorry that many of you feel cheated.

    For those of you that do wait, I hope that you enjoy your Sony hardware and software immensely when you obtain a PlayStation 5 eventually (I’m sure that you all will be able to get one in the future, but I understand that being patient is rarely fun).

    Yea you should have still did in store because this was a disaster. Because of the bots a lot of people didn’t get any games and the resell is ridiculous. I would have gladly got in line to keep from letting these clowns take advantage of good hard working people. Sony. Weds to step their game up and stop the bots from snatching all the consoles at once.

    My thing is why let this stores handle the lunch for the ps5 is you guys know this is happening..
    We the real ppl who been with playstation since ever can’t not get nothing but ,but this ppl than never had play a game in theirs life buying ps5s by 10.20.and 40 units to resale.. this reality make me very upset

    Honestly the most disappointing thing I have experienced in years. I waited 20+ hours on your web site too buy a ps5. These systems have been my only escape from life. I have bought and played your systems since they were first released ( still own most of them). I’ve spent thousands of dollars purchasing systems and games not only for myself, but for family. Only to be pushed out of the line on every store including yours, too bots and scalpers buying numerous systems at once Over 7000 for sell on eBay for $900 and up. That’s not even including the ones under a different name ( eBay has a cap on how many items can be listed with the same name) I never saw an email for pre orders. Loyalty doesn’t seem to mean and it be like it use too. Deeply saddened, I don’t see it stopping these ppl well create new psn accounts, have there mom, dad, sister and second cousin buying these up left and right.

    So stupid. The only people actually at risk to dying from covid are people with pre existing health conditions or they are old. Both of which shouldn’t be out in public during a pandemic in the first place. So now because you made this stupid decision scalpers have bought up majority of the consoles and are just selling them for 2-3 times the regular price screwing over your real loyal customers. Thank you

    I have a question as to what I should do if i have a problem with a Sony online store changing the terms of my ps5 purchase days before shipping. Basically, I participated in the limited prepurchase program with Sony Peru. Of the ten available consoles sold on October 19, i was the first to preorder the system. The console was supposed to be shipped to my house this week, but late Friday night i was enforced that my order would be sent December 15th, and if I were not happy with this change i should ask for a refund and cancel my order. What should I do. I’ve contacted the help desk here, but they’ve pushed the idea that i was forewarned about this, of which i was not and have taken photos of all my communications and the order confirmation.

    Highly disappointing. After this announcement, others predicted, with high accuracy, that the on-line retailers will be overwhelmed with scalpers running bots to scoop up the initial stock. The sad truth is Sony doesn’t care about the scalping re-seller marker. It drives up hype and demand and Sony gets paid regardless. The Sony brand has been dwindling in quality and reputation in the last decade and the multiple botched pre-order and launch day fiascoes are reflective of their customer awareness. The early reports of some severe hardware faults and bugs only stacks on Sony’s declining brand reputation.

    As a loyal PlayStation fan for decades, this launch was a huge, mismanaged disappointment. All of your consoles are in the hands of scalpers that utilized bots to buy up all of the stock, with your actual customers being unable to get their hands on one. This could have all been prevented if you had solid plans in place with the retailers regarding online-only sales, and what makes it so much worse is that everyone predicted this would happen right on this very post. How does a company as big as Sony lack the foresight to see that an online-only release of the PS5 would inevitably be swarmed by bots/scalpers? This is not a good look for your brand at all.

    I only wish that they’d let everyone who wants one place their order online, right now, even without stock. It will get delivered eventually. Doh. And since they are impossible to get anyway, why not.
    But that would kill all the scalpers and the bots, because you’d be able to get one at a retail price.
    Also, having all to orders, Sony would be able to plan massive shipments to regions accordingly for a better distribution.
    That would not kill the small player, but force them into doing the same thing.
    Kill the line up. Kill the scalpers. Please.
    Can I just pay and do something else?

    Darn.

    If only there was an established reliable technology that’s cheap and easily implemented, to prevent exploitation of online sales through the use of bots.

    PS4 had preorders. I walked into Walmart and grabbed one off the self on launch. Sure, this is a pandemic, but they should have counted on 10 times the number of people sitting at home with nothing to do and wanting a system. If they can’t produce that quantity of the item, then wait until you have stock before selling them. I would understand if they said, everything is behind, we are going to push the date back to summer 2021 and as a bonus more games will be available by then. But no, we want Black Friday and Christmas money, so we’ll sell 10 at a time as they come off the assembly line. This is exactly the reason the bots are grabbing all the available units. You made the demand, without the supply. I’ll just wait until you have enough to stock actual stores before I upgrade.

    The launch day stocks are a complete joke. In the Netherlands a few big retail stores only got 180 and one other 160 PS5’s what the hell is this. Sony would have known the PS5 was in high demand. Absolute fiasco.

    Launch day in the UK has been a disaster so far – all retailers are being overwhelmed by Bots. PS not providing a method for committed gamers to obtain the console. Very sad, I expected so much more.

    When would Sony be able to deliver stock to the market? It would be nice if Sony will be able to supply the demand especially in store availability. Or the 11/12/2020 launch was only a teaser? I hope Sony can deliver! I would love to get a hold, even on one console. I’ve always been a PS fan from the beginning! Thank you!

    All day spent trying to buy one only for ebay bots to buy up all of the stock again I am very unhappy I don’t even have a ps4 I trade it in amazon curry pc world tesco perorder page 2 per customer. game all sold more than 10 systems to one person one guy bought 20 for amazon he then sold them on ebay. I think you should put it on your site to buy and build to order that way you can ensure all customers get 1 system each over December
