PlayStation 5: Launch Day Ordering Update

Launch-day sales will be online-only this year, so please plan ahead.

Hi all – the launch of the PlayStation 5 console on November 12 (or November 19, depending on your region) is almost upon us! In the interest of keeping our gamers, retailers, and staff safe amidst COVID-19, today we are confirming that all day-of launch sales will be conducted through the online stores of our retail partners.

No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase. Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.

Gamers who have pre-ordered for pick-up at their local retailer should still be able to do so at their designated appointment time, under the retailer’s safety protocols. Please confirm the details with your local retailer.

    Today, I had received the mail from Sony saying the PS5 I got pre-ordered from the Playstation website just got shipped.

    I can’t believe it, now I need my Demon’s Souls and I will be ready to die!!!

    Thats the most B.S way of saying there’s just no more ps5s left. Just say it Sony, there aren’t any ps5 coming to store shelves because the pre orders already sold all your ps5s out. Order online? Really? Knowing full well all the retailers are already sold out and each one you call say they won’t have any more. At least have the decency to not lie. Just say it, we are sorry we didn’t produce enough ps5s for this holiday season.

      For the 1000th god damned time , there are about 2,000,000 – 4,000,000 PlayStation 5’s produced , this is a low estimate but most likely they’re is around 10,000,000 worldwide.

      Here’s what you do go to a store like Walmart that has layaway the time that it comes out on the store in the store you have enough to put it into layaway see if they’ll let you put it in layaway the other way that item is yours nobody else can get it whenever you can actually pay for it do so

      Break open a thing called a dictionary and look up “rain check” or “layaway”. Most retailers allow you to put a mere 10% down to hold a product.

    All right I don’t mind this I actually work in retail so this makes plenty of sense for me I remember whenever the PlayStation 4 came out that day was Hell Black Friday was so much easier to work with than the day the PlayStation 4 came out so this makes sense to me

    My ps4 broke a year ago so I was extremely excited for the ps5 but because of COVID I can’t get it sense the bots have taken over all the online stores. This sucks big weinner

    The fact of the matter is that it is lame. I’m tired of companies like SONY doing crazy like this, where they obviously have enough product to distribute but sprinkle consoles here and there and make them unavailable. How dumb is that.. make the mf available and ship the shirt. Quit being stupid. I agree with ALOT of the people here.. no on has time for the bs and stress especially during covid and close to the holidays. Ur making all this turmoil for nothing.. never heard of having to buy a product thru a 3rd party FOR EVERYTHING.

      @Dorellium, hey genius, many of us did plan in advance. You forget how retailers sold the items right after Sony stated the 17th? They sold them after the presentation. Its also Sony faults for not punishing retailers for breaking street date. Funny, as long as I did sale in store like BestBuy/Target in high school. They claim they cant sell anything before street date. Alter pops up, and Sony could pull stock. Sony will NEVER punish retailers over it. Let alone launch of a nest gen system

    I could not be more excited. I was invited by Sony to preorder back on September 19, which I did. On October 31, I received the “warning” email that my order would process soon. A few days go by and I see the transaction pending on my bank account. Ten days go by and the transaction remained in pending. Then all of a sudden, the funds were returned to the account. I freaked and tried many times to reach Playstation Direct, finally getting a chat window. The agent informed me that the transaction had been reauthorized 5 days ago. I said, ok, thanks.

    The next evening, I received a confirmation email, the final invoice, and the notification that my order has shipped and will arrive on Nov. 12 via Federal Express. Huzzah!

    But when are they going to come get their money? Because as it stands right now, unless they push through another transaction, I’m getting my PS5 for FREE.

    They should’ve used ppl’s PsN’s for ordering online. Now these consoles will be bought up by bot programs and sold 3 times the worth on eBay. I get the whole being safe, but this doesn’t excuse the fact it wasn’t thought out very well.

      I feel the same but i dont safety is the reason, people go into stores regardless. And where i am there arent lines of people waiting to get into the stores like there were when covid first hit, as long as you have a mask or visor you can just go in.
      I think they just didn’t produce enough units. Which is just bs.

    Utter garbage, online only sales only make it so scalpers with bots can buy up all the consoles and sell them for a thousand bucks a pop. Way to drop the ball sony, way to drop the ball. I still don’t get why they didn’t make enough available for legit customers to pre order.

    This is stupid. Look I had plans to get one in store but no it had to be online only. The true fans are not going to get one cause all of the money freaks just want to buy it as soon as there is a preorder then sell it for about 20x more than its suppose to be. I think it is just straight stupid. So now I have to wait on something that I planned on getting for awhile now and I can only buy it online and have other people monopolize your products so as soon as you give the preorder they turn around and sell it for $1200 for a “digital edition” ps5. That is literally 3x the amount of the digital. Don’t get me started on the console edition of it. I looked online lately and seen one that costed $420000. Like seriously who is going to buy that

    Ok. I only have one question, will we be able to pick up a console in store at launch if we buy it online. I get we can’t go in to buy one, but will there be store pickup at launch for same day purchase, or do I have to wait?

    I have tried to pre order a PlayStation 5 had no luck I wish I did get one but I have missed out i won’t be the only one I have missed out. What I would be doing is wait until all the games stores have stock in store and yes you have to wait until the game stores have PlayStation 5 available in store to buy.

    All you did here was make it impossible for people to purchase the console on Launch day. I literally had an item in my cart to purchase and was enter my security code when an item disappeared from Targets shopping cart. I had already pre-saved information in the site. So if each one of these online sites has some kind of method to make you stop to enter info when the bots are all automatic then no one who normally have purchased the console would be able to get one. Now all the scalpers on on FB Marketplace, OfferUp, and eBay and Gamestop is forcing people to buy bundles if they have no stock of only the console itself. Right now the people with the most advantage are the hackers trying to make tons of money. This is the same thing Nintendo allowed to happen with the SNES Mini consoles. I have bought consoles sitting outside of game stores in the past but this is ridiculous. There is no way to get your console unless you want to fight scammers.

    Sony, waited in playstation direct for 2 hours only to get to the end with out of stock. Sad part…I expected it. Please, for the sake of myself and others sanity. Give us a fair shot at getting a ps5. So tired of wasting time trying to get one, been looking forward to a ps5 for over a year. Had a ps 1 , 2, 3 and 4 on launch day over the years. However I cant continue to pretend I or most anyone will actually get one till mid next year..at wich time will be too late. A very disappointing launch. The worse I have ever seen. Would have been nice, however imo the ps5 is nothing more than vaporware.

    Sat in the que for an hour, got the ps5 in my cart hit check out after typing in my information and got “Sorry the item you are trying to purchase is no longer in stock”, tried at target got it in my cart once, same thing, tried again got it in my car once again sold out, went to Amazon, people were selling them for 1,400 to 2,500 this is getting frustrating, SONY, you would think you would have planned better to ship out and produce double the systems.

      I’m so sorry to hear that my friend. I got one ordered but I still don’t know if it’ll ship in a reasonable amount of time.

      I just hope they weren’t selling tickets to inflate their sales numbers forcing us to wait several weeks. Last i heard people that pre-ordered it direct may not get till Xmas! I hope all of that is rumor though.

      I can appreciste Sony doing a que and doing their best to ensure bitters weren’t scalping them. This last round they really did try and Immtood they are going to try to get even more available.

      Sadly, chances of getting one at an online retailer is a moot day near invalid possibility. Like you i was defeated and or hacked at. NewEgg, gamestop, target, and even ,y trusty sams club.

      So regardless of my complaints if it weren’t for Sony I wouldn’t even have it ordered and I do thank them for it.

      Best buy still hasn’t released their stock yet and you may want to try there. You’ll have to wait around, but most should be asleep besides the bothers and thankfully amazon is purging all scalped prices last i checked, if they can’t sell em maybe they’ll stop.

    Having lost two family members to Covid (nearly a third) and with my own health being poor as of late I can appreciate the decision to have it online only. But make no mistake its going to make it near impossible to get one. I was fortunate to sneak in tonight and order one from your store before you sold out, but if it’s a rain check or a please wait until January or mid December before I get it, I’m just going to cancel and play on my Series X. Microsoft did a very similar online only, but they made sure every single current Xbo user who wanted one got the chance to order without facing bots. Seriously, people are using funkpopr or whatever and similar apps to scalp and bot the heck out of online stores.

    Just for example- Tonight to get my ps5 ordered I was ddosed, my newegg account got deleted, best buy forgot to launch, and Target straight up put them available when people at their stores could scalp them. I know several employees offering me one for 800 whom I’ve personally reported. More happened I don’t care to talk about and I’ve been up for 24 hours..

    The thing is if you were going to do it this way you should have made sure all current owners got the chance before offering pre-orders or inventory to stores. I love you for letting me get one ordered, but its just doesn’t make me feel that well about it. You really dropped the ball on the hardware and you know it – variable frequencies? Variable rops and Tflops? Ridiculously low CU count? But thankfully you gave us a sound card and I’m big on sound and wasn’t ready to upgrade my monitor just yet. The series x may have me doing just that though… its such an incredible piece of tech.

    I hope and pray everyone who wants one gets one and next time Sony doesn’t do a lottery and/or shady pre-order setup.

    You guys are like a bunch of school girls. It will arrive when its does, and all the moaning and groaning is not gonna help. Yes I have been buying every playstation on release day since the original playstation 1. Yes I would love to have a ps5 on release day as well, but I know the odds of that are slim. I am ok with that , and will not give some scalper the benefit of charging me 3 times the price.

    Not smart of Sony by handing out would-be walk-in store system to online bots. Not only that, you won’t have someone come out and tell you when they’re out of stock. Now you’re regulated to chance/lucky. Online doesn’t say no more in stock too. Just generic ‘not available’. BestBuy has not been helpful too, giving out a date, but no time frame. Meanwhile Walmart and some others have (both date and 4 different time frames on the 12th). BestBuy has zero info on online buying. I am stuck with Best Buy because of a point system they use when buying items. That is my only chance and they have been horrendous, let’s not ignore the day in advance sale that screwed tons of loyal day one buyers over.

    disappointed, I planned everything in advance, feb 2020 bought 2020 75inch LG, with HDMI 2.1, picked up an HDMI 2.1 receiver for audio 2 months ago and grabbed a WIFI 6 mesh system ($800+ tax this month) just for the mesh ability AND planning for the PS5 using WIFI 6. Sony disabled walk in over a virus with 97% survival rate. If you’re older, composed immune system, obviously don’t go. They do 6ft apart outside Home depo for people waiting for them to open. Best buy could do that too, when out, they tell you. End of story. But no. Also thanks Sony for punishing retailers that sold items a day early RIGHT AFTER the presentation.

    Imo, ps5 was never a real console. They simply got nervous becouse microsoft already had launch dates.
    Somy does not have near the amount they should have for launch. Its vapor ware and imo the single worse console or so called console release in history. Yes that my friends is sonys fault . The ps5 will actually be available next year at this time.

    Went to target yesterday for the deets soon found out had to order one for in store pickup I knew there was no chance in hell. Still got before midnight had iPad & computers set up to try and order, no surprise the website wouldn’t reload & when it did that was it was barely past 12:01. I’m not asking stores to open or special treatment just for ps5 Target, Best Buy, Walmart are already open, selling in store would be no different, but Sony is aware of how online purchases work & there no way your average person/mom/dad would have a fighting chance in getting one

    Tried my best, got online at all the right times, and everything was out of stock instantly except at Target. Had it in my cart but it wouldn’t let me purchase it. Called with my cart number, waited an hour on the phone, and they said I was one of 1000s of calls they got where the system just didn’t handle all the sales happening this fast.

    Every other launch I have been able to wait in a physical line and spend my time. I wish there were online queue lines as well, or some human mechanism. Without captcha or some anti-scripting anti-bot guardrails, this ends up being an impossibility.

    The ebay flippers are making a fortune. They probably need the money in these trying times.

    I do wish Sony would reinforce with clear info how many more pre-xmas consoles are coming. We are going to be looking at waves of unpurchased accessories and ps5 games sitting on shelves for a long time in my estimation.

      I’m sorry this happened, I have a similar situation. The scalpers are doing this out if greed, they wanna corner the market. Id try again at 3 est and the other times, if you don’t get it, don’t stress. We probably won’t either. If you can’t get one, id just recommend getting a high end pc at this point, because all the restocks will be like this.

    Ok sony, this is the third time I’m right there to click and don’t get a console. Im livid right now. I was right at the button on both preorders, and today. We know that bots are a problem, and clearly you guys don’t care? Where are the precautions to make sure only real people buy them? Where are they? Oh, thats right, you don’t care if bots get them as long as they sell right? Complete bs, change this, fix it, im not gonna buy a 500 dollar console on eBay for 15,000. If you don’t fix this issue, guess who lost a customer. I tried not to go off on you guys, but 3 times, really? And to those who say I planned poorly, no, I did not, I pressed the button exactly at 12 pm, when the console was stocked. This is bs, I just wanted a ps5, now I’m not so sure if I do because I dont know if its worth the stress. Get your things straight sony. I’m sick of the lies and dissapointment. And I hope you know, if you keep going this route, bots will be the only ones buying your consoles, because the fans will leave.
