Destruction AllStars coming to PlayStation Plus in February

Hi everyone – we wanted to share a quick update on our plans for Destruction AllStars. We’ve decided to move the game’s release from November 2020 to February 2021, where it will be included for two months in PlayStation Plus at no additional cost.

Destruction AllStars is a multiplayer game that’s at its best when you’re competing with gamers online from all around the world. We want as many people as possible to experience the mayhem on PS5, and what better way to do that than to provide the game to our PlayStation Plus members?

Next week, we’ll return with a brand-new trailer and more details on the game, so you’ll know exactly what to expect when you download it in February.

This may be disappointing news for some of you who were looking to play the game at launch, but we hope you understand the decision. For those of you that have already pre-ordered the game, be it via PlayStation Store,, or at retail, your purchase will be refunded.

Thank you for your continued support, we look forward to seeing you in the arena in February!

  • Sounds like good news, if anything. I don’t think it ever looked like a $70 game.

    • By February 2021 there will likely be an install base of potentially 10 million PS5 owners, most will likely have PlayStation Plus. Including it free means the game has a chance to grow a thriving community.

    • Yeah this is good for us as gamers and good for the game, it’s good for Sony too, it’s all good. I just hope it’s good and does well.

    • Awesome news. Follow Rocket League and polish it up.

I will say, considering that former Wipeout devs created this game I believe a huge opportunity was missed to create a new, next gen Wipeout.

First, Wipeout has a name and there are still fans who want a new iteration. Second, Omega was given on Plus so millions of ppl are probably excited for a new title. Third, considering that Wipeout is very easy game to create technically I’m sure a new PS5 iteration could’ve included a 120fps or even 8K mode (less likely).

What better game for 120fps than Wipeout? With the SSD u could achieve dramatically superior in-game car speeds combined with 120fps would exhilarating. Sony could’ve pulled a Microsoft and boasted about 120fps or even 8k potential if possible. A headline, launch exclusive, at 120fps with thrilling speeds would’ve been big.

Also, since Wipeout isn’t a technical monster it could’ve potentially achieved VR or future VR compatibility as well.

I just don’t understand why Sony would sign the former Wipeout devs to make a new IP in the same realm? Especially since Wipeout is a very straight forward and simple game to make. A new Wipeout at thrilling speeds with wider multiplayer implementation would’ve been a huge headline. It could’ve showcased RT as well. Missed opportunity.

U have all these exciting mp racers/vehicle based games in your back pocket. Warhawk, Motorstorm, Wipeout…use them. Don’t be discouraged by Starhawk, it was a great game even though it didn’t sell. A WARHAWK reboot would sell. I’m not sure if Sony owns the Destruction Derby IP, but if so, why didn’t u use it for Destruction All-Stars. Call it Destruction Derby: All-Stars or just Destruction Derby. The name still holds. Hire me, please. I love ya, Sony.

    • @Iamttlerdurden

The game is being made by Lucid games who were behind Switchblade and the Geometry Wars series. Maybe there are some key people from Wipeout on the team. If there’s a greater connection I’m missing, let me know.

As far as missed opportunities with IPs, Sony own the most beloved Vehicular Combat IP in Twisted Metal. A more family friendly approach in a new IP is probably for the best though; to broaden the audience with a younger generation that grew up on paid cosmetics.

I’d love a new Wipeout but I hope it that, if it does come, it will be a racer and not vehicular combat.

  • When you say “included for two months in PlayStation Plus at no additional cost”, to be sure this is like everything else on PS+, we get the game and keep it as long as we have a subscription, even after those two months?

    • What I understood of the ps5 ps plus is that the games they give you don’t keep. Once its rotated outbits gone. Is this right ?

    • Yes. As long as you keep your PS+ Subscription you get to keep the game just like every other game you have gotten off of PS+. They probably are giving it 2 months to be sure all early adopters of the PS5 have a chance to get it on PS+.

    • @saab01 No, that’s not right. If you’re a member of PS Plus when something is released, AND you “buy” it for free during that window, then you “own” it for as long as you’re a member.

If you cancel Plus you won’t be able to play it, but if you later sign up again you will again be able to download and play anything you “bought” for free while previously a member – but not the things that came and went while you were not a member.

    • I was confused as well but seeing as they say they are refunding to anyone that preordered, Its looks like it will be like any other PS+ game but they are running it for two months instead of one. So its yours as long as you are subscribbed.

    • I think it will be like a part of the PS+ Collection, where games can come and go, rather than you “owning” the game as long as the subscription lasts. Otherwise, they would have just said “It’s coming to PS+ in February 2021.” I really wish they would clear up the wording.

    • You can have the game for two months then you need to buy it. It’s like ps now games on system for set time then gone

    • Ok looking into it more looks like it’s on ps plus account forever

  • Not a problem, I’ll just add to library.

  • I’m glad PlayStation has come to it’s senses on this was never worth £40 nevermind £70. Now time to correct the prices on the other games back to £40.

    • I had actually pre-ordered the game. Very happy to know the preorder will be refunded! Game looks like a lot of fun.

    • why never worth 40Pounds? a game is worth what you get out of it period. If you are able to play and enjoy a 50-100hr worth of content would you mind if it is half- or full-priced. Games are not priced upon looks or market but rather content and fun else Nintendo games would never sell at fullprice

  • This is actually the best move for it. It was the least exciting launch title and putting it out for $70 wouldn’t have done it any favors. A multiplayer game like this will thrive by being put on PS+ on day 1.

  • Nice! I always thought it was strange to not be a Plus game considering it is a new ip and multiplayer focused. But now hopefully it will find success such as Rocket League and Fall Guys! P.S. Please please please include some Twisted Metal dlc!

  • This is a smart move Sony. Not many people saw this game to be worth the full $70 and this should really help keep this game from dying as fast as it would have if it was launched without a PS+ option.

  • That stinks that it won’t be at launch, but great news that it will becoming to Playstation Plus! I think this is an excellent move! I am looking forward to playing it now!

  • I preorder the ps5 bundle package
That comes with the game Destruction Allstars…
What happens with my ps5 bundle package now??

    • It should go down in price

    • For those of you that have already pre-ordered the game, be it via PlayStation Store,, or at retail, your purchase will be refunded. I am in the same boat but that last sentence looks promising since I could only get my hands on the bundle preorders on antonline.

    • As far as I’m concerned there are no ps5 bundles. Maybe the shop where you pre-order it made their own bundles. In that case, they’ll just don’t charge you for the game

    • Called GameStop about bundle and they said I would still get the system at launch.

  • I’m also wondering do we get to keep it like all the other PS Plus games or is that it after 2 months.

    • IDK why people think otherwise. Just because they are having it available through ps+ for 2 months? You keep it just like all other PS+ games until you cancel your PS+ subscription.

Its probably available for 2 months to give early PS5 adopters all a chance to get the game through PS+. The longer its on PS+ for free the bigger the player base can get to keep it from dying behind that $70 price tag.

    • It will be gone after two months like ps now games look at it as a two month demo period. I personally can’t see it being a free title on plus

  • This sentence is confusing,
..where it will be included for two months in PlayStation Plus at no additional cost.
Does it mean it will only be on plus for 2 months and then disappear from our account even if we have downloaded it already (making this just a 2-month free trial) or does it mean that it will be on plus for 2 months and once downloaded it will remain in the library for good as long as a user as an active plus subscription?
Please clarify because the above sentence is not very clear.

    • Im sure they would have said trial if it was only a trial…

    • Never heard of a trial on PS+ to be perfectly honest.

You’ll be able to add the game to your library for 2 months and keep it as all PS+ games.

    • I don’t believe they have ever “trial”ed a game via PS Plus, typically once a PS Plus game is in your library it remains in your library until you unsubscribe.

Why would this be any different?

    • As ALL PS Plus games, you keep it as long as you pay the subscription.

    • I think while we will be getting games every month to keep as long as we have a membership will continue. I think the introduction of the PS Plus Collection has shown that Plus is evolving, and there may be more “revolving door” games than what we are used to. Kind of like how Game Pass works on XB. Sony has not stated if there will even be “free games” every month, have they? Nothing is really a given here since the information has been scarce.

  • I agree with others, I think this was the rightmove for this game. A lot of folks expected this to be a PS+ or lower-cost type of title anyway. Good to see this being the case, even if we have to wait a bit. I think it has the potential to do much better as a PS+ game.

  • Good move.

  • This Sounds like good News to me =D

  • I’ve been totally unable to locate a ps5 preorder. Any hints to get one by launch?

  • Great way to start the week! This game will get more polished. Im super excited to play this game.

  • Bad decision
    Killed game sales
Stop giving games “free” on PS Plus, we want AAA games and buy them to be always ours.

    • So wait until it’s no longer on + and buy, most people can’t afford to buy every game

    • Explain how this is a bad decision?

It gives them more time to polish the game up, mind you we have not seen any real footage of gameplay. It will increase install base due to the $0.00 price tag and as long as you remain a PS Plus Subscriber the game will always be yours.

  • Good choice on Sony’s part, I think they heard people talking about how this would not work out as a 70$ game and I think that’s absolutely true, these kind of live service games that are taking a first shot don’t really have the asking power for 70$, now as a PSPlus game this is alot more interesting and I actually would like to invest my time with it.

  • Looks rubbish, will be dead not long after launch.

  • Always a little disappointing to see a game pushed but this sounds like a good decision honestly :)
Being primarily a multiplayer game, this will give it a huge jump start and if it manages to keep the momentum, it might become a real success :)

  • Awesome!
Can’t wait to see the great games coming to PS5

  • I have to say while this may seem like bad news, its a smart decision on a few levels. I wasn’t sure about this game at first, and I can understand peoples sentiment about the price point, but it takes a lot of courage to release a new type of game let alone property especially at launch. Please, stop bashing developers and start praising them for being different and deciding not to do the same ol same ol shooter, looter, battle royale, yadayadayada. This looks like it WILL be a blast to play even though its NOT an open-world, rogue-like or clone of some other uber-popular been there done that experience. Its games like this that moves the medium forward and is one of the particular reasons I’ve invested in PlayStation since the beginning. Kudos to you Pete Smith and the rest of the development team for making the tough call, but in the end we appreciate it!

  • For all of the people who are confused about PS+ monthly games: You get that month (or two months, in this case) to add the game to your library for free. Then it’s yours to play forever (apparently only if you are still a PS+ member, but who wouldn’t be, and with a game like this that is nearly entirely multiplayer, you will either have PS+ or you won’t play it anyway, so it shouldn’t matter if you lose access during a lapse in membership). Excited that my bundle just got cheaper, unless GameStop fails me and cancels the whole thing over this.

  • We can tank David Jaffe from God of War for this change. He made a video on YouTube, and the devs surely took it very seriously.

  • Brilliant maneuver.

  • Is there offline component (gameplay) to the game?

Will this game ever come available to purchase via Blu-ray disc for those that prefer to not use up so much internet data and to have a offline copy available?

Is there offline split screen co-op?

  • Believe it or not I look forward to this game more than any title currently announced. It gives me Warhawk / Twisted Metal vibes in terms of madness and craziness! I even predict we’ll get Sweet Tooth as DLC. I hope its a huge success and they allow them to work on the next Twisted Metal game!

  • Ok so since I got the PS5 bundle from Gamestop does that mean I’ll get another game instead or am I just gonna pay less for it now?
They haven’t taken money out yet so that I am wondering.

  • That’s a very smart decision.

  • This is great news. This title and it’s launch price was not the greatest options for launch of a new IP. This will give ps plus users better value and promote a new IP to test it’s worth!

  • What if we got it in a bundle?? Will it just not be delivered?

  • So it will be active for 2 months and then get buried under all the other multiplayer titles. The game looks interesting but I’m sorry, I do not see it having lasting power with all the big titles coming out.

  • Its like Christmas came early…eerrr late as it may seem. This was actually one of the games I had on the bubble to get as soon at PS5 comes out. Oh well, more Cyberpunk n Godfall till Feb ’21…

  • This is definitely the best choice. That way Destruction All-Stars will have a more thriving community!

  • Can’t wait for play this game!
also anyone knows something how ps plus will work with ps5?
i mean new games per month or this situation

    • If like ps4 plus games will be added a few months after release with mainly indie games

    • PS4 games were actually available at launch with Plus (Resogun and something else)

    • Yeah but with ps5 able to play ps4 games I think they will wait a few months for before adding indie ps5 only. And yes we had a few indie games at ps4 release on plus but what I meant was bigger names

    • I was thinking of buying this and now I’ll get it in February for no extra cost besides my PS+ sub. Sounds good to me.

  • No mês do meu aniversário! Eita presente bom! Obrigado “titia Sonya” kkkk 😝👍👍

  • When it said allstars i tought they meant the ps3 allstars that was like super smash bros but with god of war and other characters

  • Good move, now the game has a chance to succeed. Hope to see more of it soon.

  • This always felt like a free to play title. Nice excuse to delay as well.

  • At least I should be able to get something out of PS+ now, as I’m more inclined to try something random that someone else chose when it’s on the brand new PS5. The first year of a new generation really is the only time that PS+ is somewhat interesting and relevant to me (PS4 launch title Contrast is one the few I downloaded this gen), for the rest of the generation I’m just wishing and pleading for online to be separated from it (prefer physical and to keep my downloading at a minimal for online gaming).

  • after the 2 month free do we get to keep the game ?

  • This news is Sweet as my Meat!

  • Looking forward to playing this game. Thankfully February is just a few months away.

  • “This may be disappointing news for some of you who were looking to play the game at launch”. I’m sure all 5 of them are bummed by it.

  • Good stuff! I was on the fence with pre-ordering it but I agree with people that I wasn’t convinced it was worth a full $70 purchase. Now I will most definitely play it. Hopefully it has the same sort of success as Rocket League, Fall Guys, etc.

  • Great news, I was planning to pick it up… but with MM, CP2077, DS, etc…. was going to be somewhere around q1-q2.

  • Is this going to be automatically refunded or you have to called in to get refunded

  • Hmm no surprise. With that forced diversity lineup they unveiled the Pre-orders must have been stinking up the place.

  • Really, just weeks before release!
Who the hell is the project manager of this game?
Anyway, good news this thing will be free for Plus in Feb.
